Importing photos edited in Photoshop distorts them!
I use iPhoto to organize all of my photos, but I use Photoshop 7 to edit them. I have been working on a project where I export a photo in iPhoto to the desktop, edit it in Photoshop (change to B&W, then colorize certain parts), and then I want to import it back into iPhoto so it can be organized with the rest of my photos.
However, when I import the edited photo back to iPhoto, it appears very distorted. The contrast is really really high, and the colorization does not even come close to what I have done.
The photos look fine when I look at them in Photoshop and in Preview.
Any clues as to why iPhoto doesn't like this? They look ok when all I do is crop in Photoshop, it seems to be the color changes and filter applications that are freaking it out.

The photo is a jpeg, both in photoshop and iPhoto, before and after the edits. I am taking a CMYK photo, changing it to B&W (discarding all color information), and then switching back to CMYK (in the image mode menu) so that I can apply color to certain areas.
I have not created any new layers - all is one layer.

EDIT - when I take a photo from iPhoto that was already B&W (shot that way from my camera) and add color in photoshop and then import it back to iPhoto, the distortion does not happen.

I have a sudden export to plug-in problem as well as a Photo-Edit-in-Photoshop Error
I just changed Macs and migrated all of my old data to the new iMac (running OS X 10.9.2). Applications and files. I keep all my photo files on external Iomega drives, however. I plugged those back in and Lightroom 5.2 recognizes them. I can work with them, edit, etc within Lightroom. No problems.
But I can't seem to export them to some of the plug-ins now or Photo-Edit in-Photoshop. For example, I tried to export out via (File-Plug-in Extras-Perfect Effects 8) and get this message: "AgNegative:renderToFile: <AgErrorID>dng_error_write_file</AgErrorID>"
Another example: Trying to edit the photo via (Photo-Edit in-Adobe Photoshop Elements) gives me this message: "Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at /Volumes/Photos-Videos /Pictures/2000/2000 Dean Scan 6.jpeg for editing. It will not be opened."
I've tried exporting Raw and jpgs and tiffs and get the same errors. It will, oddly enough, allow me to export to Photomatix Pro.
Any ideas? I'm stumped.
Thanks!That would be great as tested further with a few files as not only have external drive backup I also use Backblaze remote service and just requested a few test files to be returned for uploading, which both worked fine.
It's seems to be the hard drive it's not recognising PS and LR CC

Good Monitor for Photo Editing in Photoshop?
I hope this question isn't too OT for this forum, but I would think that it's an important concern for Photoshop users.
I'm looking for a good monitor for photo editing in Photoshop -- photos that will be printed to 16"x20" and above. I have a limited budget, having invested most of my money in an Epson 7900 printer -- so I'm looking for the best monitor available for under $1000 US. I already have a 19" Samsung flat panel that I will use as my palette monitor in a two-monitor setup.
I have heard of a few good models by Dell in this price range. Any other suggestions on size and brand? Thanks.I haven't seen it myself, but I've read good test reports about the Dell Ultrasharp 2209WA. An IPS display which apparently pretty good colour stabiliy over the whole panel. No hardware calibration, though, but you can't expect this for less than 1000 bucks.

A Photos edited in Photoshop are stacked with your original Photoshop Lightroom images. It's possible that they are hidden within the Stack.

TechNoteHave you set pse as an external editor?
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

How can I import photos into Organizer from a Desktop folder in the same order that I have arranged and numbered them?

Can you give an example of two files that are in the desired order on Windows Explorer but a different order in PSE?
Most likely, youre encountering a feature of Vista Windows Explorer. PSE sorts filenames in Folder Location view by the customary dictionary (lexicographic) order used by most applications. For example, the file p15.jpg will come before p2.jpg, because 1 comes before 2 in the dictionary. But Windows Explorer sorts p15.jpg
after ps2.jpg, because it uses a different rule for sorting filenames if filenames end in numbers, then it sorts files that all have the same leading prefix by the numeric value of that number, not by dictionary order.
If this is indeed your issue, there are several alternate approaches:
- Rename the files in Windows Explorer to have names of the form p002.jpg and p015.jpg (that is, the same number of trailing digits).
- Use PSE albums rather than Windows Explorer to create ordered collections of photos. Its very easy to rearrange the order of photos in albums, much easier than renaming in Windows Explorer. In general, if you want to use the PSE Organizer, then things will go easiest if you do all your file management within PSE and not try to use Windows Explorer.
- If you want your photos in order of date taken, use the PSEs Display > Thumbnail View to show them in date order. (Folder Location view shows in filename order, and albums show in the order you set.) Use Edit > Adjust Date And Time to change the date taken of any photos as necessary. -
Incorrect size when photo edited in photoshop
If I am viewing an image at full screen in iPhoto and then open it for editing in Photoshop, The resulting saved image is the wrong size when it uploads to Flickr. Sometimes, it also appears at the wrong size when viewed in iPhoto as well. Generally, rebuilding thumnails corrects the problem. Likewise, images opened from the iPhoto grid view also do not appear incorrectly. Granted, I just named two work-arounds, but neither is very satisfying. Anyone else have a better idea?
Do you have PSE setup this way in iPhoto?
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always. In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note: to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired. -
Can't import photos into iPhoto-- it sees them but won't import
I've been using iPhoto with my Mac Mini for almost a year now without a single issue (that's the main reason I bought a mac). I believe I have iPhoto 08 (I bought the computer 1 year ago). I have a newer Canon point-and-shoot that I've been using. About 1 month ago I did a software update to iPhoto, so it's pretty much up to date.
Everything has been fine for almost a year, then all the sudden, iPhoto hangs when I try to import my latest batch of photos. It will pull them into the import preview window (I can see all of them), but when I try to "Import All" it just hangs. I have to turn off the camera just to get the program to unfreeze (after patiently waiting a few minutes). For some odd reason, just 1 of the 70 photos makes it in (there are a few videos, but they won't import either).
Here's the error message:
Unreadable Files: 69
The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data).

Thanks a bunchIt’s part of the basic install of OS X. So unless you deleted it then it’s there in your apps folder. If you have deleted it, it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. You will be able to extract the installation package using Pacifist.
Alternatively, if you’re using almost any camera +apart from a Canon+ then the camera card is visible on the desktop and you can drag the movie to the desktop using the Finder and import from there.
No matter what camera you use, if you pop the card from it into a USB Card Reader then it will be accessible via the Finder. Card Readers are inexpensive and all round a better idea.
Why use a Card Reader?
Because it’s safer: Less risk of your images being lost if your camera shuts down during transfer.
Because it saves the battery on your camera
Because it saves wear and tear on your camera ports
Because it’s almost always faster.

Photo Edit In Photoshop Elements 10 not working
I've set up Lightroom so that my PS Elements 10 appears as a menu item in the Photo -> Edit In menu.
When I select that option for the selected photo, it begins the process of opening Photoshop Elements 10. PS Elements 10 opens and is functional but there is no open image - it does not load the image selected in Lightroom.
(I'm using LR4.3 and PSE 10.0 on Mac OS X 10.7.5)
What could be wrong?

When I came back to the computer about 10 mins later a dialogue box had appeared saying "Could not complete your request because of a program error."You chose the logical file instead of the correct one, most likely. Adobe sneakily hides the actual editor inside the support files folder. You want this one:

Why do my photos edited in Photoshop cause iPhoto to quit?
I've been using iPhoto for years and in the last few days I can no longer edit or open certain pictures within iPhoto. Everytime I click on photos that have been edited in Photoshop Elements 3, the iPhoto application simply quits. Other photos that have NOT been touched by PE3 open okay. The same happens when I try to view a photo (edited in PE3) full size in the main gallery section (i.e. not in the edit mode). I've edited THOUSANDS of photos in Photoshop Elements 3 and never had this problem until now. It suddenly started about five days ago. I've deleted by iPhoto plist and even reinstalled iPhoto 6.0.4. But nothing seems to work.
I've noticed when exporting photos that the orginal is the same size as state in hte info section of iPhoto - but the one edited in PE3 is much larger (someties twice the size). Is that the added information? Is iPhoto keeping two copies of each picture - the original and the modified version?
Could it be that my Library size is now too large? 16,000 photos and a total library size of 46.7 GB?
I use a Nikon D2x so even the jpegs I shoot are fairly large. I've ordered Aperture 1.5 - will that solve the problem? Or will the same thing happen? My computer by the way is a Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8 (one fo the first) with 4.5 GB of RAM.

Import photos from adobe photoshop elements (win) to Iphoto 08
Hi,
I just got an imac and I want to import my old photos and adobe photoshop element tags from my windows machine. I want to keep the tags the same. Does any one have any suggestions?
-DYes, use File>Write tags and properties to file and Elements should pick up the metadata keywords this creates. However, if you have raw files or tiffs from an epson scanner, the metadata creation can be unreliable.

How do I import photos from Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2???
I have all my family photos for at least the last 6 years on Adobe Album Starter Edition 3.2. I cannot access them because it says a need a code to open them and I don't have that; they are no longer supporting that, so how the heck do I access all my photos?????
Thanks Pat, I've tried that to no success (quite a few different ways) even though I can see the file name in the page before the registration page covers it, and the *.jpg brings up over 32000 files, the problem here is that some images I know are also duplicated in the "my digital photos" file but how do I know if they are all there? there are over 4700 photos in the Album starter catalogue.The frustrating thing is I know they are somewhere perhaps safely in the "My digital photos" but what is making me wonder is my new Photoshop Elements 11 keeps reminding me of missing files??

Regarding Adobe customer service and tech support, Adobe only supports the current version of Photoshop, which is CS6.
These forums are user to user forums. We're all users here.
That being said, as an avid Mac user since 1984, I can categorically assure you that Apple's iPhoto does not play nice with Adobe applications.
Curt's remark about iPhoto hiding your actual images in "libraries" is right on target. If you can see the file icon without opening the application package (please refer to Apple's documentation for instructions of how to Open a Package by Control-clicking [or right-clicking with a two-button mouse] on the application package icon in the Finder) you are not looking at your original or full-resolution file. You're just looking at the low-resolution JPEG preview embedded in the file for display purposes. Attempting to edit or manipulate that image in Photoshop would be futile.
Beside the suggestion to upgrade Photoshop, I can only offer you my personal opinion that, from the point of view of an Adobe Photoshop user and Macintosh fan, iPhoto is an unmitigated piece of cr@p, plain and simple. -
Photos edited with Photoshop and saved to iPhoto don't show up in album?
When I edit photos in PSCS4, rename them, and save them to the original iPhoto album, they do not reappear. When I use the "finder", I can see that they are saved to the modified folder within iPhoto with their new filename. Is there a way to save them so that they will reappear in the original album?

Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in it's rebuild library window, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case. -
Importing images edited in Photoshop into Iphoto

I tend to use Photoshop elements and bridge as my initial repository for RAW format photos. I use Bridge and Elements to select photos for editing, and storing the edited .psd file.
I also create a jpeg copy of the finished file, which I import into iPhoto. However when I do that, iPhoto uses the date that the jpeg was created, rather than the original photo date to organise into events. Any ideas how to get it to use the original photo date, which must be in the EXIF data...
ThanksTry importing the psd file into iPhoto and see if it will retain the EXIF date. That way you can use PSE from within iPHoto to make additional edits as follows:

1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.

How can I import photos edited with Photos on iPad to iPhoto on Mac, including all edits??
During a long vakantion trip, I took many pictures and imported them in Photos on my iPad. And during the trip I edited many photos: croppig, changing colors and brightness, etc.
Now back home, I would like to import all these photos into iPhoto on my Mac, including all the edits of course.
I imported a few hundred and saw at once that the edits were not imported completely and not correctly (probably most is not imported).
Can anyone please advise how this should be done.

FransMaking a trip, I import, select and edit pictures, as I have the time to do so. So, when I come back home, I expect importing to the Mac and reviewing only.
You are caught in the transit. If you still had iOS 7, that would have been no problem. Your edits in iPhoto on the iPad would have transferred to the Mac, and you would even have been able to undo the Camera filters. Unfortunately, iOS 8 is ahead of the photo applications on the Mac. The sidecar files with the edits transfer to the mac, but no software that I know of can read them. It will be better in a few month.
Do you know of any other application which can be used on both, iOS and OS X, to edit photos??
Right now, the only app I know is Pixelmator.
Pixelmator on the iPad can save and open files on iCloud Drive. But you would need to upgrade your Mac to Yosemite to use the new Pixelmator for Mac and to be able to access iCloud Drive from the Mac.
