Importing photos from Camera to computer

Hi all,
With the old version of Iphoto, when importing photos from the camera, the original files were automaticaly organized in the picture folder according the captures dates and times: separate folders for years, months and days.
When importing using the newer version, the photos will only be organized according the roll name and the "created date" of the file is the time of importation and not the time of capture any more. So now I have to make all the organizing of original files manually !
Does any one know if this is normal, and if what I can do to change this ?
Any help is welcome.

Hi.
Yes, this is perfectly normal. With version 6 iPhoto is organized by Film Rolls. There is no way to change it, as this is the fundamental organization of the iPhoto Library.
If you are concerned that you won't be able to find your photos, rest assured that iPhoto makes it easy. You can:
*drag and drop to another application or your desktop
*Right-click (control-click) and select "Show File." A Finder window will open with the file selected
*File> Export> File Export for use outside of iPhoto. Best practice when uploading to a website or creating a list of jpegs to have printed at a photo developer.
And to find your photos by date, try the little calendar icon near the lower left corner of the iPhoto window. You can pull up photos from a given year, month, and/or day with just a few clicks.
If you don't like the organization of your Film Rolls, you can reorganize them. Just be sure to do this from iPhoto, and NEVER from inside the Finder. Once your Rolls are organized to your liking, you will only have to file new imports into your system. The rolls you create will be reflected in the iPhoto Library folder structure you see in Finder. This gives you more control over how your photos are stored compared with previous versions of iPhoto.

  • How can I import photos from camera to computer?

The "Get Photos" selection has disappeared from my Elements 9 screen. How can I import photos from my camera to my computer?

Yes, the entire top bar disappeared. I no longer see the place to click to
initiate the import, and I don't see the place to select the camera from
which to import or the place where I used to select a file or create a new
file in which to save the pictures when they are imported. I clicked
Organize when I entered the program, but everything looks slightly
different. What can I do. I certainly don't want to jeopardize over 3,000
    photos installed.
    Thanks.

  • IPhoto suddenly quit while importing photos from camera unable to import photos from camera

iPhoto suddenly quit while importing photos from camera unable to import photos from camera that were imported before iPhoto quit. Photos are still on the camera however iPhoto only "sees" the photos that were not imported on this computer. I can connect to my other mac and see all the photos. This has happened before and I wanted to learn how to deal with this problem. Thanks Ed

I am using a MacBook Pro OS 10.9.2, iPhoto 9.5.1 connected via usb to a Canon G12. I have had this issue before when importing photos. I can work around by using my other Mac and download the photos. I believe that there maybe a setting on the Mac that prevents duplicating photo downloads that may be preventing me from seeing these photos stored in the camera memory although I can view them on the camera.

  • How do i import photos from camera without iPhoto

how do i import photos from camera without iPhoto

You can import pictures from the device using Image Capture:
Connect the iOS device to the computer.
If Image Capture does not open automatically, you can navigate to your Applications folder and open Image Capture from there.
Choose the location to which you'd like to import pictures.
    Click Options.
Click the Options tab if it isn't already selected.
Enable the option "Delete items from camera after downloading".
Note: Deleting photos after importing helps to reduce Camera Roll size, and it improves backup and restore times. You may choose Keep Photos if you wish to import the photos to additional computers.
    Click OK.
    Click Download All.
If you have Aperture, you can use it to import your photos. See the Aperture User Guide for more information.

    That's the latest version.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

  • Problem Importing photos from camera to iPhoto

Help. For a while I had no problems importing photos from my camera now I get the following error message:- /private/var/folders/CC/CC5eraW2GGCddoAX3DUGjE+TM/-Tmp-/iPhoto/PICT1015.JPG
Does anyone know what this means? What I have done to my computer to cause this? and how to fix it. Thank you.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Launch Image Capture (in your Apps Folder) and use it to move the pics to the desktop. Then try import from there.
If that works, then use your camera to reformat your card, and see if that works in the future.

  • Help with importing photos from camera if some pics were imported earlier

I am trying to import photos from my digital camera into iphoto and there are some old photos on my camera already. When the prompt screen tells me that there is a repeat photo, I clicked on do not import it for all such photos option. After that the screen tells me that the photos are being imported, but nothing happens. I am very furstrated, is there anything I can do? I have iphoto 6 version. Thanks!

I believe with iPhoto 6 if you upload the photos to a folder first and then import that folder into iPhoto 6 you will be given the opportunity to exclude duplicates. The import has to be from the Finder and not directly from the camera. You can test that by importing a single photo that is already in the library from the Desktop. If I'm wrong this post will self destruct 10 seconds after and all here will disavow any knowledge of me.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Import photos from iphone to computer

After upgrading to IOS 7.2 I have been unable to import my photos from my phone to my computer. iCloud is installed on my computer. • Problem importing photos from camera to Lightroom

I have Creative Cloud for Photographers, it´s installed on my iMac and my MacBook Air. I use Lightroom to import photos from the camera. A few days ago I wanted to import some photos to the MacBook, but after a while everything stopped, no photos were imported and after waiting quite some time I gave up. Tried again after a while but then got the message that the files couldn´t be read. It worried me a lot as I was afraid the memory card might have got damaged, but I tried to import the photos to the iMac instead and it was no problem. After that I have tried to import other photos from various cameras to the MacBook, but nothing works. To the iMac - no problem. I then tried to uninstall Lightroom, but it was not possible. In the Creative Cloud-app It is possible to uninstall Photoshop, no problem, but with Lightroom it says "cannot be uninstalled" - on both the iMac and the MacBook.
Since I will be traveling a lot in just a few days, it´s essential to have a Lightroom that works on my MacBook. I usually import photos from the camera several times a day, so without a LR that works, things will be much more difficult…
Any help will be much appreciated!

As I am not a Mac person, I cannot explain how to change permissions, but I'm sure your favorite search engine will find the instructions.
Sometimes, the destination folder where Lightroom writes the photos to has accidentally changed, and now you are pointing to a different fodler that doesn't have the proper permissions.

  • Incorrect subfolder dates when importing photos from camera

I installed the trial version of Photoshop Elements 10 on my iMac a few days ago to try it out. When I import photos from a camera (I have tried with 2 different cameras) in Photoshop Elements Organizer, I am asked to select a naming format for the subfolders. I select "Shot Date (yyyy mm dd)", but no matter what, I always get folders with strange dates eg. 1913 11 05, 1970 06 10. The photos themselves within the subfolders have the right dates, so I am not sure where the problem is.
    Can someone help?
    Thanks

Make sure your prefs are set to date shot - there are a number of choices.
Open the Organizer and click Edit à Preferences à Camera or Card Reader
Choose your setting from the dropdown menu and click OK.

  • Problems importing photos from cameras

I have a iPod with video, a photo connector, a Pentax Optio WP and a Canon 350D. When I try to import photos from any of my 2 cameras it may give me the error message "an error occurred while importing". It is more likely the more photos i have to import. Say If I have to import only 10 jpg photos it does it with no problem. However if I import 500MB worth of photos with or without raw i get the error message. Once the error occurred I can't access any of the imported phots, since the menu item is missing then and i can't run any more imports. I have to connect the camera to my PC and delete all import folders to get it working again. I have set up both cameras with PTP/print and always double-check all connections
Any help would be appericiated, Thanks
    iPod with Video   Windows XP

    Hi Spoottyipod
First off, do a soft reset on your iPod(hold down menu+centre button) this seems to fix most peoples problems. If not.
i've posted this a few times for people on here. The easy way to solve your problem is to buy the Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 15-in-1 Media Card Reader/Writer. model number:F5U249ea.
the reason's you should get this are. 1: it works perfect with the ipod and camera connector and is a little bit faster.
2: your can keep shooting while your saving your shot's.
if still no luck. put the CD that came with your iPod in and use the software updater on there. if you want the latest 1.1.1 go to: http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
hope this helps you. don't hesitate to ask for any help.

  • Can't import photos from camera

I was downloading some photos from my Digital Rebel XSi with no problems. Then I switched cards and all of a sudden, it wouldn't load the photos. I could still view the photos on the camera, so they were definitely there. It was as if Aperture just didn't want to try to load anything. I opened up iPhoto and Image Capture and it was the same story, they just didn't load the photos. I restarted the computer and opened up Image Capture. This time there was at least a progress bar and a waiting for camera. It did load the photos this time, however I hit Download All, it went to the progress bar and thumbnail display as normal, but it zoomed through all the photos in seconds and didn't actually download anything. Luckily I had turned off "delete from camera after downloading" or I may have lost everything. I plugged the camera into my iBook G4 and downloaded the photos no problem with Image Capture. Both computers are running OS X 10.5.7 and Aperture, iPhoto and RAW compatibility are at their latest versions.

Try this workflow as described below in an earlier post of mine:
I feel pretty strongly that card-to-Aperture or camera-to-Aperture handling of original images puts originals at unnecessary risk. I suggest this workflow, first using the Finder (not Aperture) to copy images from CF card to computer hard drive:
    • Remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into a memory card reader. Faster readers and faster cards are preferable.
    • Finder-copy images from memory card to a labeled folder on the intended permanent Masters location hard drive.
    • Eject memory card.
    • Burn backup hard drive or DVD copies of the original images (optional strongly recommended recommended backup step).
    • Eject backup hard drive(s) or DVDs.
    • From within Aperture, import images from the hard drive folder into Aperture selecting "Store files in their current location." This is called "referenced images." During import is the best time to also add keywords, but that is another discussion.
    • Review pix for completeness (e.g. a 500-pic shoot has 500 valid images showing in Aperture).
    • Reformat memory card in camera, and archive originals off site on hard drives and/or on DVDs.
Note that the "eject" steps above are important in order to avoid mistakenly working on removable media/backups.
Also note with a Referenced-Masters Library that use of the "Vault" backup routine backs up the Library only, not the Masters. Masters should be separately backed up, IMO a good thing from a workflow and data security standpoint.

  • Can't Import Photos from Camera or iPhone

This is a recent development. For some reason when I plug in my iPhone or my Canon Power Shot I can't load photos I've taken to iPhoto '09. When I switch users and go to my wife's iPhoto on the same computer, i have no problem loading photos with the same camera (she has no trouble with her Phone). I have had to resort to emailing photos from my wife so that I can then manually load them to iPhoto. I can't even use the pull down menu in email to save photos to iPhoto. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

I am having a similar problem. For the last 3 months iPhoto has worked as expected. It automatically starts accessing the pictures from my camera when I plug the USB from the camera into my MacBook. Then I can select which pictures I want to import. The last time I was able to do this function normally was on Sunday of this week.
Now, however, when I plug the USB into the Mac it does not start to automatically access the pictures. I tried the solutions mentioned in this thread already and they didn't resolve it. When I went to the console, I got the following error message last night:
    10-03-10 10:49:32 PM [0x0-0xe00e].com.apple.iPhoto[117] Face Detecting 3 OKAO_Detection(0x18756370,data=2304-bytes 0x1c64000,48x48) failed with -3
This morning the error message is:
    10-03-11 6:16:47 AM com.apple.WindowServer[56] Thu Mar 11 06:16:47 MY_NAME'S-MacBook.local WindowServer[56] <Error>: kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint() to catch errors as they are logged.
The process works when I plug it into our PC so it must be something I have done to the Mac this week. I had added a program requested by Facebook when I uploaded pictures earlier this week. I thought that might be causing the problem so I deleted it as well as some other programs I had installed for Twitter use. Still having problems.
Thanks if anyone can help me.

  • IPhoto - Error while importing Photos from Camera!

    Hi,
Can any one help me with my issue, I am using a canon EOS40D, and sandisk Extreem2 Compact Flash Disk. Whenever I try to download images from my camera, it shows the images available on the camera in a thumb nail format in mac, but while downloading it says "one or more of the images could not be downloaded" and it lists all the images in the exceptions list. I tried the same operations with another camera too there also i had the same issue. If I copy a set of images from some other source to my Air laptop folder and from there if i try to import those images into this iPhoto it works properly! I tried reinstalling iPhoto many times without any luck. Somewhere I read that if i format my CF disk i should be able to download pics directly from my camera, but even that didnt work. I tried creating different image libraries iPhoto too, even then i had the same issue.
I also noticed that, many of my old pics that i had in this iPhoto, though it shows the thumbnail properly, when i click them to view in the full size it shows a warning exclamation symbol and not the pic! I am really tired of our iPhoto stuff.
The version of iPhoto is 9.1.1.
I have another MacBook Pro,  there i have absolutely no issues and there i am using two year old version of iPhoto.
    Can anyone help me here?
    Thanks
    Venu G

First step is to get the photos off the camera and reformat your memory card using the camera's format command
a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and the reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos
