Importing photos from iPhoto to Lightroom library

I use OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.1 and Lightroom 5. I would like to know how to import the photos from my iPhoto (over 3,000, mix of jpeg and raw) to the library in Lightroom. I found an answer yesterday evening and followed the instructions carefully. They centred around making a duplicate Master and once the copying had been done, dragging that into Lightroom. I got to that bit and a little icon box came up saying to wait while it copied the over 3,000 files into the Master icon but nothing happened. I left my computer on all day hoping that the copying would take place or something would happen but alas, no. I can't figure out why it didn't copy. I followed the instructions to the letter. Any ideas anyone? Thank you v much.

Thanks for replying so quickly. My problem is that when I followed the instructions I originally had i.e. to first of all do a Ctrl click on the iPhoto library file and choose Show Package Content and then Ctrl click on the folder named Masters and then choose Duplicate. A little separate box then appeared telling me to wait until the 3,000 or so files had been copied into the duplicate Masters folder but it didn't copy any of the files. I was ready to drag the copy of the Masters folder to Desktop once the copying of my 3,000 or so files had been done but not one was copied. Sorry if I wasn't clear in explaining my query properly. I can't see why the copying didn't take place, especially as there was a little box saying it was going to happen. If it did happen, I was then ready to continue with my instructions which were as you suggested i.e. drag the folder named Masters copy from the iPhoto library Finder window to the Desktop, open Lightroom and drag the Masers copy folder into the Grid view of the library module, etc. Any ideas about why the photos weren't copied into the Duplicate file? Thanks.

Please help me., Hey Guys, How do I export photos from iPhoto to Lightroom? I deleted them from the SD Card so I cannot import them directly to Lightroom. To simply import the original files is quite a simple process.
Locate the iPhoto Library (default is your Pictures Folder). Right click on it and select "Show Package Contents".
Locate the Masters folder and drag it onto the Lightroom icon or an open Library window. This will invoke the Import command.
Be sure "Include Subfolders" is checked.
Now you can import all the original files.
If your goal is to maintain structure of the Events it gets a little more tedious. Drag the event onto the Lightroom icon or the Library window. Once imported you can group them into a Collection Name that mimics the Event.
    Repeat with other events.
With the impending demise of iPhoto and Aperture, I suspect Apple may be working with Adobe to develop an automated process that will also maintain metadata that was added in those programs. If you can wait a while, it may be worth it.

  • How do you import photos from iPhoto into lightroom?

I have lightroom 5.7 and OX10.9.5 if it matters.  I can't find the iPhoto photos and dragging them in doesn't do anything.

  • How do I import photos from iPhoto to Lightroom on mac book air?

Iv'e read in several forums that to do this you must go into the finder right click on iPhoto.  Click show package contents.   This pulls up a file named contents.   All of the forums say to either look for a masters file or a original file and copy and paste it to the desktop. This is supposed to then allow lightroom to see the packaged file.   I can't seem to find either file.  Im not sure if its because the forum is outdated or if they just completely changed the name of the file with a newer update.   Either way I tried to do this with a couple of the files I thought might work i.e.. library, mac os.   Nothing has worked.   I am very new to using mac.  I just literally bought this computer yesterday so I really don't want to try to much blindly but being able to edit images with professional software is the whole reason why I bought it.    Pleases Help!!!!!!

I just looked on my computer and it appears that they moved the folder location.  In Finder, go to the "pictures" folder and then right click on the iPhoto library and select show package contents.  I was then able to find a Masters Library with a bunch of sub folders that contained the files.
I think the issue is that you were selecting the iPhoto application.
    Hope this helps.

  • Iphoto 9.5 won't import photos from iPhoto 7.5.  Library will not update using the iPhoto library upgraded application.

iphoto 9.5 won't import photos from iPhoto 7.5.  Library will not update using the iPhoto library upgrader application.  Repeatedly says it can't locate photos even when told to cancel.  I think the photos in question are in Nikon RAW format.

iPhoto 9.5 immediately tries to "upgrade" my library using the upgrader.
iPhoto 9.5 asks you to run the upgrader to prepare the library for 9.5. It then will update the library to its format.
You need to do the following:
1 - go to your Applications/Utilities folder and double click on the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application.
2 - select Choose Library, navigate to your iPhoto library, select it and let the upgrader do its thing.
3 - launch iPhoto 9.5 to open and finish the conversion of the library.

  • How can I import photos from iPhoto-library to edit in Photoshop CC? - and save it back to the iPhoto-library?

How can I import photos from iPhoto-library to edit in Photoshop CC? - and save it back to the iPhoto-library?

How to access iPhoto images for use in Photoshop
    1. In the Finder, navigate to Users > [user name} > Pictures > iPhoto Library.
    2. Control-click the iPhoto Library file and choose Show Package Contents.
    3. A Finder window opens that shows the contents. The Masters folder (or called Originals folder) contains all of the photographs that are in iPhoto.
Photoshop cannot access this folder, but if you make a duplicate of the folder, the dupe will be accessible -- so:
    4. Control-click the folder named Masters (or Originals) and choose Duplicate.
5, Drag the duplicate folder which is named "Masters copy" or “Originals copy” from the iPhoto Library Finder window to the Desktop.
    6. Open images in Photoshop from file on desktop.
7  Rename the folder and move it elsewhere (probably to the Pictures folder), if desired.

  • HT204414 how to merge my iPhoto Library into my Photos System Library or how to import photos from iPhoto to Photos?

Can anyone tell me how to merge my iPhoto Library into my Photos System Library or how to import photos from iPhoto to Photos?

How many did you trash at one go? iPhoto will baulk and possibly corrupt if you try trash too many at one go. Expereinced users recommend getting rid of them in batches of about 100 or so.
What's your plan for the remaining images in the iPhoto Library (the 2k photos and 4 videos)?

  • Import photos from iphoto to LR5?

How do you import photos from iphoto to Lr5?

The first step is to find out where are your images stored. Go to Applications/iPhoto and right-click on “show package
You should now be able to see the iPhoto “library.”
The next step is to decide if you want to keep the images where they are or move them to a new location. Using Adobe Lightroom you can accomplish both tasks. You can MOVE the images to a fast and reliable external hard drive or onto your computer hard drive in an “images” folder (or whatever you have called you parent folder for all your images).
In Adobe Lightroom’s Import dialog, navigate to the folder that contains you iPhoto Library, make sure MOVE is selected, and select the new destintion on the drive you want to move them to (the External or your Hard drive)
The pictures will be MOVED from the iPhoto location, and imported  through Lightroom.

  • How can i import photos from iphoto 9.2.3 to 9.6

I am migrating from a 2009 ibook to a Macbook pro 13.3 retina. How can  can I import photos from iPhoto 9.2.3 library to  the 9.6 iPhoto.
I am running 10.6.8 snow leopard on the ibook which has 4Gb of memory.
I tried but it just loaded icons to the 9.6 library.
I am reluctant to go to Yosimite on the ibook and it seems this would not solve it anyway.

You don't import one library to another.  Just copy the library from the iBook to the Pictures folder on shout new MacBook Pro. If you have another library already on the MBP rename it so you don't overwrite it with the old library.
Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select the newly copied library and let iPhoto convert it to the new version.
Do you have photos in the library on the new MacBook Pro that you want to combine with the older library?

  • When trying to import photos from iPhoto organizer 12 crashes

I installed new photoshop elements 12 and when It attempted to import photos from iphoto 9.5.1 it get to the 7th picture and then locks up, I have to force quit app. What can the problem be? I tried importing a few photos and it worked ok, I attempted to import using files and folders and it locked up again.

You're sure you want to stop using iphoto? Then I would try it this way instead:
Export each event in your iphoto library separately, put the photos where you want to keep them and use "from files and folders". If there's an event that the organizer chokes on, then you'll have to go into that one photo by photo to see where the problem lies. (You are aware that using "from iphoto" is duplicating your entire iphoto library, so you don't want to do that AND keep using iphoto, right?)
