Importing picture material from Adobe Lightroom

Dear iBook Author Community,
I am creating quite some photo and textual content materila and intend to start my own series of iBooks just now. In order to enhance user experience for my travle photo collections, I intend to import my photo material to iBooks Author directly fromout Adobe Lightroom. Does anybody out there have an answer on how this might work?

Not all dng-formats are compatible with Aperture. If you cannot import the dng, use the software that came with your camera. Afaik, the Leica Vlux-4 digital camera comes with Lightroom. You could develope the raw with LIghtroom to tiff and import the tiff to Aperture, until Apple - hopefully - will provide raw support for the Leica Vlux-4.

Technical informations:
PC with Windows 7 64-bit, Lightroom 5.7.1 64-bit installed.
What I have done:
I downloaded the newest LR 5.71 and installed it again - mode repair; without success
I checked my PC with Norton 360: full scanning and optimizing registry
I restarted the PC and than I installed the LR 5.7 again - repair
Trouble 1:
Two days ago I could work with my LR 5 and to import pictures from a SD was no problem. Now I can start LR 5 and I can watch/modify pictures, but as soon as I try to import new pictures LR 5 stops and gives the message "your LR 5 64-bit does not work correctly - searching for solution". I have not changed anything in my computer since lasttime LR 5 worked properly, only the registry was optimized by Norton 360.
Trouble 2:
I live in Switzerland and my language ist German. I dit not find a place where I can present my problem in German, e.g. a phone number oder email-address oder german-chat. My English is to week for a discussion for computer problems and do understand it.
Help:
I would very appreciate if anybody can help me, either to trouble 1 or to trouble 2. Thanks.

I've looked for an answer to this but no luck so far. Until Adobe add this feature to Muse you could try this work around:
1. Import a Kuler .ase file into Illustrator (or Photoshop too I guess)
2. Select the desired colour in Illustrator and note the RGB values
3. Create new swatches in Muse and use the noted RGB values rather than the colour picker.

Extracting JPEG files from Adobe Lightroom previews

I need to figure out how to extract previews from Adobe Lightroom as JPEG files. I am trying to develop an external app that will read Lightroom's plugins - I need to do it in either C++, C# or Java. So far all examples I found were in Lua. Any help/code examples would be greatly appreciated.

I think he is looking for C/Java code, not a script/plugin.
In any case, anybody looking to recover previews should be aware that most plugins or external apps DO NOT assign a proper ICC profile to the extracted previews. The extracted previews are *usually*, meaning NOT ALWAYS AdobeRGB, but untagged: will be interpreted as sRGB. Yeah, that's why they will look different than the original.
I don't know about JF's plugin.
(Adobe's recovery script does NOT handle ICC profiles correctly).
PreviewExporter is the only plugin I know of that handles ICC profiles properly - if anybody knows how JF's plugin handles ICC profiles - do tell.
Note: PreviewExporter includes source code - it should be straight-forward to translate to C/Java.

Very slow importing of photos from camera lightroom 4.4

I'm trying to import photos directly from my nikon D7000 as I normally do, but today, it is taking forever. I have tried restarting lightroom, as well s my MAC and also tried optimizing my catalog, and also installed software updates. HELP!!

I would not risk storing all the pictures of a trip to a single 16 GB card... Using your IPAD as backup seems a very good idea.
About the speed of uploading a library of 16 GB, it's not much more than copying 16GB to your computer from a card or a USB stick. You can test it yourself; 'getting' files from the card into the catalog is quick after the 16GB are copied, the only step which will be longer is the creation of the thumbnails, but that does not prevent you from working in the organizer before they are created.

I have a Nikon D50 nef on my desktop. Double-clicking on it opens Photoshop, which launches Adobe Camera Raw. If you get that far and can make adjustments in the ACR panel, you are fine. That's what opens first.
Then you click "Open" in ACR and your nef opens in Photoshop and the document tab on top gives the .nef extension. You make your edits there, but if you close Photoshop, you won't save it as nef, it won't be in the Save file list. You save it as psd for example and close Photoshop.
You now have a nef with develop settings on your desktop and the psd you saved out of Photoshop.
All perfectly normal as J.J. said, Photoshop will edit the nef file, but it will be saved in a format other than nef.

Aperture import ing Photos from adobe album

How can I import all my photos (& related database) from Adobe Album keeping all tags ?
Having Adobe Album 11 (Adobe Photoshop & Premiere Elements 11), & latest version of Aperture & Mac OS X

You can import photos to Aperture but there's no way to import an Adobe database.
To get the photos is a two step process
1. Export form the adobe app while writing all the keywords and metadata to the exported files. For details on that you'll need to see the Help on that app.
2. Import to Aperture. If the metadata is correctly written to the Exif and IPTC Aperture will get it all.

Migrating from Adobe Lightroom to Aperture

What is the best way to do this and maintain keywords, settings, etc.. I have imported folders as projects from my Lightroom library, but I'm not sure that I got exposure corrections this way. I think that I just got the original Raw files.

Aperture can't currently read sidecar files, even though it can generate them.
But that would still only bring across keywords and metadata, not any of the image adjustments.

EDIT - if you mean exporting converted files (TIFFs or JPEGs) then everything should come across, but of course you'd be losing the advantage of lossless changes to RAW files.

Importing pictures/video from S-VHS-C camcorder - no Firewire

I have a JVC S-VHS-C camcorder (Model GR-SXM740U) with audio and video jacks for RCA cable, an S video port, and a serial port for PC (Windows) computers – no Firewire. And I have an eMac with a Keyspan Serial to USB adapter that works fine for importing digital photos from the camera using “Digital Photo Navigator” for OS9.1. I want to import my VHS video files into iMovie. Any suggestions?

Bill W: Thanks for the input. I decided to follow up on your 1st suggestion and started researching adapters. Most that I found were expensive and used with PC software for movies. With a little diligence I found an ADS Pyro FireWire AV Link Analog to Digital Video Converter for $129. Several Mac users gave it a fairly good rating (last year) and said that it worked well with iMovie. I ordered one and will give it a try. Will let you know if it works.

Have tried to start using this programme, but with no success with regard to opening a file which I saved under Adobe Reader XI as a PDF. It is a small book which I want to convert to an EBook. How do I start please? Tony L

Create a new InDesign document. Choose Place from the File menu.
A PDF can be included anywhere on a page, at any size. It is not editable, it is just a picture like a JPEG.

Read-only access when saving metadata to file from Adobe Lightroom on a MAC OS to Windows shared drive

We have a group of 5 people editing and indexing photos to a shared drive on a windows server, everyone has its own catalog and working on different folders to avoid any locking conflicts.
The windows computers don't have any problems but the Mac's don't write the updated metadata to all files because they get the message "Photos have read-only access".
The environment is the following:
2x Macs workstations running:
- Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
- iMAC with MAC OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
3x Windows Workstations:
- Windows 7
- Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
Server:
- Shared drive on a Windows Server 2012 Standard
I have searched the internet, no one has this problem with this exact setup but I have tried all the solutions I found, namely:
1. Connect to the network drive with cifs:// protocol
2. Change the settings of the nsmb.conf for 'smb1_only' protocol
3. Mount the drive manually by command line
Nothing worked, any ideas?

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I have the same issue and wonder if Lightroom 6 will resolve it. I tried AFP, SMB2, SMB3 and they all failed to save metadata randomly. When I use NFS from OS X then it works fine but it's a little slower than SMB and it's not as native as the mount via AFP or SMB, so it's harder to maintain. My server is a FreeNAS 9.2 (FreeBSD) which is running Samba, Netatalk and native NFS.
