Importing pictures from a CD into iphoto

I have a CD full of pictures (I don't have the camera the pictures came from) that I want to import to iphoto. Can this be done, and if so, how?

  • When I import pictures from my camera into iPhoto, does it import the original photo size?

I've been importing pictures from my camera & my phone into iphoto, but I'm not sure if it's automatically importing it as the original file size and not changing it into a smaller photo... Is there a way I can check this?
Thanks in advance for your help

Yes it imports a byte by byte copy of the photo.
What do you mean by 'size'? Do you mean file size? Or the dimensions of the photo (length by breadth)?
You can compare simply by exporting the original out of iPhoto
File -> Export, and set the kind to Original
For help accessing your photos in iPhoto see this user tip:

  • When I try to import pictures from media card to iPhoto, I'm getting the error 'The following file could not be imported. The file is in an unrecognized format.'  The file is a jpeg and I've never had this problem before.

    What version of iPhoto?
What colour profile is the shot?
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Window 8.1 is not allowing Elements Organizer 11 to import pictures from SD card into Organizer

After installing Windows 8.1, I am no longer able to import pictures from SD card into Organizer as Elements simply stops working after Import from Card reader is selected. Obviously I am shutdown from importing pictures.

Windows 8.1 is not allowing Elements Organizer 11 to import pictures from SD Card in card reader into Elements Organizer. The Elements Program goes to a blue circle and the program times out.
    I have:
    Tried different SD cards
    Tried different card readers,
I can import off files or folders. However card reader does not show up on this menu within Elements.
There is obviously some workaround that could be contemplated BUT Elements Organizer cannot import from SD card in card reader and this is a very inconvenient situation.  It worked fine in Windows 8.0.
I would appreciate a reply. Thank you.

with photo stream on and importing pictures from your camera into your Ipad - after 30 days the pictures will be removed from photo stream, but will the pictures still be in your Ipad ? andy

To my knowledge, pictures in photo stream stay there untill there is more than 1000 of them, then after that the oldest ones are removed from photo stream.  If your photos have synced to your devices via photo stream or manual syncing they will be there until you elect to delete them.

  • What is the best way to import pictures from Lightroom 5 into FCP X

What is the  best way to transfer pictures from Lightroom 5 into Final Cut Pro X?

There is no one best way.  If, for instance, you want to be able to zoom into the picture with a Ken Burns effect then you may want to save out a very high res version that will be larger than your video resolution. Just use Lightroom to export a jpg file wherever you want it. You could export it into the Events folder and then choose not to copy it when you import it within FCPx. You could import the picture into iPhoto and then access it directly from within FCPx. Those are two simple, "regular" ways to get it into FCPx but if you are not going to Ken Burns the image by zooming into it and such you will want to crop it in Lightroom to the same size you will be using ie if you are making 720HD video then crop the image to that size and proportion before you export it from Lightroom.

  • Importing pics from the internet into iphoto

Hello, my 8 year old daughter has to do a presentation on Holland.. so I thought
that I would help her with technology!! We are trying to make a slideshow of pictures from holland, I found a bunch of pics on a website that are perfect.. I dragged the pics into iphoto, put them in order.. but when I begin the slideshow, the pictures (which appear very clear when they are small) get very blurred when they fit the size of the screen. How Can I fix this? Is it possible?
I do not mind leaving the pictures smaller so that they are clearer.. please advise

If the pictures you imported were small photos to begin with, they will be blurry when they enlarge because there is not enough information to make them clear at such a size. These are called "thumbnails," they are low-resolution and only look good when condensed to a small size. Find larger photos and try again with them. You might try clicking on the small photos when you find them on a webpage, sometimes that will load a higher-resolution version of the photo, and you can drag this into iPhoto instead of the thumbnail. Good luck to you and your daughter.

  • How to import pictures from Filesystem directly into subcatagory

Until now I import pictures via the File Menue into the "big pot". Then I try to find the files in this "big pot" and draw it by drag/drop into the desired catagory/sub - sub - sub ..... catagory. It is not easy to find such imported files among several 1000 pictures especially if they have different dates. So is it possible to import selected files directly from the filesystem into a subcategory.
    Photoshop Elements 10 / WIndows 7
    Regards Rainer

to import photos either use the iPhoto file menu ==> import command or drag the photos to the iPhoto icon in the dock

  • (TIP) importing video from 3G S into iPhoto....

I synced my old 3G, went to the Apple Store and brought home a new 3G S, then restored the 3g backup to the 3G S.
I then shot some video and tried to import it into my Mac. It did not show up in iPhoto. I quit and restarted iPhoto, I rebooted the iPhone. Video still did not show up in iPhoto.
My tip: I restarted my computer, then opened iPhoto, at which point the video showed up in iPhoto and was then imported into Mac.
I think it was caused by my computer seeing the new iPhone with the same name as the old iPhone and a tad confused that there would be video on the 3G. Purely speculation about what the problem was, but this procedure did allow me to finally see the video and import it.
I had searched for an answer on the forums and found no solutions. Hopefully this will help someone who is having this problem.
    Loving my new phone! Joel.

This was funny, seeing my own tip as the answer to my problem.
I've been having some wonky stuff going on when I try to import photos from the iPhone- I get a dialog box telling me the photos are "unreadable files," while showing the names of the files with .png (for the iPhone screenshots) and .jpg (for the shots taken with the 3GS camera). And several photos not showing up at all, and none of the videos showing up.
This happened the other day, after which I installed the update to iPhoto 8.0.4, after which I restarted the computer- great joy when the photos and videos showed up. I attributed it to the new iPhoto.
But when it happened again tonight, "unreadable files" and no videos in spite of quitting iPhoto, restarting the phone, hard restarting the phone, and finally restarting the Mac after going searching the forums for any hints about this and seeing this tip from this clever guy. ::grin::
Hope this helps anyone with this challenge. I'd love to see it cleared up, but it is nice to know there is a way to get it to import.
Now if I can find a way to import the voice memos from the phone.
    Ciao. Joel.

  • Problem Importing Photos from Aperture 3 into iPhoto '11

I store my photos in Aperture 3, but import them into iPhoto to create calendars, cards, etc. I usually work with RAW or high resolution JPG images in Aperture. However, when I import these into the new iPhoto '11, it automatically converts my RAW images into very low resolution images (e.g., 100-200k instead of at least 1-2MB). I cannot seem to find an option to change this. This was not a problem with the old iPhoto. To import, I start in iPhoto, then click "Show Aperture Library", then drag my photos/folder. I would like to have an option to import images as RAW files, or just high res JPGs.
I know I can export my Aperture images to the desktop, then import them into iPhoto for a temporary fix, but that is such as hassle, especially since iPhoto and Aperture are supposed to work well together. Thanks for any suggestions!

Aperture creates preview images that contain all the adjustments you've made to the master image. These previews are what is shared with other apps such as iLife or if you drag and drop an image out of Aperture to another app or the Finder.
The size of the previews is controlled in Aperture Preferences. Open Aperture Preferences and click on the Previews icon at the top. In the bottom of this dialog there is a popup menu titled "Photo Preview". This is the setting that controls the size of the image Aperture shares with iPhoto. Change this setting to the size you want.
But wait, you're not done yet. Changing this setting does nothing until a new preview is created in Aperture. If you right click an image in Aperture there is a menu item near the bottom named "Update Preview". But what you really need is "Generate Preview". Right click the image and then hold down the option key and you'll see "Update Preview" change to "Generate Preview". Choose "Generate Preview" and a new preview will be created using the new size setting you made in Preferences. You need to do this for each and every image you wish to share at the larger size. You can select multiple images before selecting the "Generate Preview" command to speed things up.
Now when you share an image from Aperture to iPhoto the new larger file will be used. The advantage of smaller previews is your Aperture library will also be smaller but the trade off is what you get in other apps that are using your images.

  • I imported video from a card into IPhoto and it plays in slow motion.  Any suggestions? Would importing into IMovie help at all?

    Hello
I am importing video and pics into Iphoto and the video plays in slow motion.  Would importing in Imovie help or does it have something to do with the type of camera or file the video is in?

It should. So they aren't shown in the Last Import smart album, right? Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.

  • Importing photos from old iPhone into iPhoto

I've just upgraded an iPhone and am trying to get the photos off the old one onto the computer. Using iPhoto because that's what I've used before. The iPhone is connected via USB and iTunes recognizes it but iPhoto doesn't show it at all, so there's no chance to import anything. Any ideas why the device is not showing up to iPhoto, even while it does show up to iPhoto? Be advised, I have not backed up to the Cloud at all so Photo Stream is not enabled.
And a secondary question: why in the heck would iTunes be set up, under the Photos tab, to import photos FROM the computer TO the iPhone? That's all I can get it to do at least. Why in the world would I want to move photos in that direction, if the iPhone is the camera and the comptuer hard drive is the storage device?

"And a secondary question: why in the heck would iTunes be set up, under the Photos tab, to import photos FROM the computer TO the iPhone? That's all I can get it to do at least. So you can view pics from your computer on your iphone.  For most, then iphone is not the only camera they ever use.  In fact, it is likely not the main camera you would use.

  • Importing photos from Nikon D5000 into iphoto

I just got a Nikon D5000 and cannot import my photos directly from the camera to iphoto using the USB cable supplied with the camera. I have no trouble when I use my D80 camera - plug it in to the USB and iphoto starts importing automatically. What am I doing wrong? I even tried using the Nikon Transfer software that came with the camera, but no luck there either. I have already made sure the connections are tight, camera is on and in play mode. I don't know what else to try. Very frustrating...grrrrr.

Lisa, attach the camera to your Mac, and then launch Image Capture. See what is set as the default whe this particular camera is connected.

  • Import photos from SD card into iPhoto

Santa gave my wife a new camera for Christmas and I am trying to load photos from the SD card using the SanDISK MicroMate (plugs into USB port) that came with the card. My daughter also got a camera, a Digital Blue Disney micro that uses a cable to attach to the USB port. Neither will show up in iPhoto, Image Capture, Windows Media Player, or in a finder window. Both do show up (with correct information as far as I can tell) in the Apple System Profiler. The Digital Blue website states that they do not have Mac software, but that Mac users can plug in to the USB and drag and drop as a "mass storage device". With our old camera, I used a compact flash (CF) with a compact flash reader that plugged into the USB port and never had any problems. The CF always showed up in iPhoto and the finder windows. Any ideas out there. I will probably be upgrading to a 2.4 GHz iMac soon, but would like to solve this before that happens. Thanks for your help.
    Scott

    The SanDisk website has a PDF owner's guide that says the following;
Macintosh Disk Icons: When you connect the MicroMate Reader/Writer on a Macintosh operating system, a removable disk icon labeled
“untitled” representing the MicroMate Reader/Writer will show on the desktop when a card is inserted.
It also has directions to drag the removable disk icon labeled “untitled” to the trash to remove the disk. There is also a support link to a ebox page on a secure site that won't let me go farther (I think I need a newer browser), so I can't find drivers.
My problem is that the icon doesn't show up and I can't find it in any applications I try. I know the Disney camera is a toy, its for my 5 year old, but I am having the identical problem with both the Disney camera and SanDisk.
