I have an iPhone 5s. My computer is a Windows, with the Windows 8 OS. I have never had a problem importing pictures from my iPhone to my computer until recently. Now, whenever I try, I get this error message:

I have tried again. I have tried skipping files. Either way, the photos and video will not import from my phone. It is filled up now and I cannot download anything else, or take any more pictures, until I get these files off the phone.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Can't import pictures from iphone 5

I can't import pictures from my iphone 5 even though they are stored on my computer. I get the message "nothing has been imported. The file(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in this catalog." I've been able to do it until this time. Any ideas?

1. make sure phone is not locked (passcode locked) when you connect.
2. odds are you (or somebody) changed a setting in windows to not pull up that window anymore by default.
3. after plugging in, go to My Computer and you should see it listed as a camera/scanner. Just go double click it and get into the pictures and copy off manually. Right click it and I think there you can tell Windows how to act when plugged in.

I installed Snow Leopard and now I can't import pictures from iphone or memory chip.

Try a couple folders up - a parent folder's permissions can cause problems with a child subfolder.
And don't just rely on the read-only box. Go to c/users/username/music, right-click and get permissions, go to the security tab and make sure your username has full control and ownership.

I recently bought an Imac 27". Everything is set up and updated and now I want to import the 2,500 photos I have on my iphone on to my mac. But Im having problems.
The Iphone synchronizes with Itunes fine. But under "pictures" If I check the box "synchronize pictures from Iphoto" (Maybe I shouldnt do this but I though I needed to to get the pictures from my Iphone to Iphoto" it gives me the message "Are you sure you want to synchronize pictures? all the pictures and albums on your Iphone will be replaced with pictures and albums from the current picturegallery"(roughly transelated)
I didnt do this since as I understand it this will cause me to loose all my 2,500 pictures I have on the Iphone.
When I open Iphoto it doesnt detect the Iphone at all.. No Iphone in the left menu at all. Image capture doesnt detect the Iphone either.
*So what can I do to get the pictures from my iphone on to my mac?*
The pictures in the camera roll are
1. Pictures taken with the Iphone
2. Pictures taken with another persons Iphone and that got sent to me
3. Pictures taken with another persons mobile(not an Iphone( and that got sent to me
4.Pictures saved from the net from safari browser
5. Pictures edited in Iphone apps and saved from the apps they where edited in.

English is not my mother tongue but I will try to answer this the best I can from what I have understood..
The Iphone has synchronized with my pc previously and the apps I had on my Iphone then went to the Itunes I used on that computer.
I got the Imac yesterday and did synchronize the Iphone with the Itunes on the Imac wich caused me to loose over half of my applications and the one album I had on the Iphone. I have checked the boxes on everything so that Itunes synchronizes everything with the Iphone now, I guess this has nothing to do with backup but I thought I had to check the boxes for it to backup all of the things I want backup of.
When I open the adressbook program on the mac I can see my contacts there so I guess the backup is there then...
I dont really understand the Itunes content question.. I have no Itunes content no more except for the apps. I only had one album before wich was lost when I synchronized with the Imac.
The thing you talked about not syncing with an empty adressbook. you mean like after I have reset my Iphone so its blank I have to make a dummy contant before I connect it to the Imac and synchronizes the contacts? and choose merge instead of replace?
how do I actually format and reset the whole Iphone back to fabric condition? and after I have done that and connected it to the Itunes should I uncheck everybox in the sync options except contacts and then sync the Iphone?
After that I would assume I should delete the backup I have on Itunes from before I reset the Iphone so that all the pictures wont get put back in my Iphone?

When i plug my iphone in to sync with my pc i used to get a pop up box in the right hand corner that would ask if i wanted to import and tag my pictures from my iphone. This box has disappeared and I can't work out how to sync my photo's from my iphone to my pc. I've tried the usual rebooting stuff but still can't work it out. Any thoughts? Am i missing something in settings that automatically downloads photo's from iphone when it's connected to PC?

If you import them to iphoto they are stored in the iPhoto Library in your Pictures Folder.
If you want to back that up, make a copy if the iPhoto Library on another volume.

Yes, you can move your iPhoto Library to an external disk. Make sure the disk is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Remember a Library on an External Disk is not a back up. For a Back Up you need a copy of the Library on another disk

The sync is one way. As these pics came from your computer in the first place, they should still be there and you should have a backup copy.
You can e-mail them to yourself, but they will never be of the original quality ( they are reduced when synced to iphone).

How does iPhoto import pictures from iPhone photo stream?

Sorry for so basic a question, but I thought I understood how this was working (in iOS 7 and this version of iPhoto 9.6) But now, in Yosemite, and iOS 8, I am not sure what is occurring.
My intent is to take pictures on the phone, and when I cable-sync with my iMac, I want to d/l and keep all of the new photos permanently in iPhoto. I have then gone to Image Capture, brought down a 2nd backup copy, and deleted them off the phone. This would leave me with an empty Camera Roll, but with 1,000 recent photos available on my phone, via the Photo Stream.
I've used iPhoto for years, and have a large number of pictures there. Recently, with the advent of the Photo Stream, I'm automatically getting Events added (and added to) like November Photo Stream in iPhoto, which has worked fine.
However, the last few times in iPhoto, I'm getting random photos showing up as unsynced... ones which should have been brought in previously. And today when I went to clear the photos off the phone in Image Capture it told me I had 2,400 pictures.
If someone could give me (or point me to) a primer on how this is now supposed to behave, I'd appreciate it. I'm afraid that Apple is structuring all of this toward iCloud-photo storage when they release Photos, and that will not work for me. I need to keep my pictures locally, although the Stream has been handy. I need to be sure I'm doing this in a reasonable way... the method I'm using doesn't seem to be working very well. If you go to the Photo App, then select photo stream, you can delete any of them by selecting the edit button and tapping on them. A delete button or trash can should appear. Excuse me for being a little vague...ive been on iOS 7 for a while now...

Photos that were synced from a computer won't show for copying to a computer. If you want to copy them back then you will need a third-party app on your phone such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to a device, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer (e.g. their dimensions might be different and their colours may look a bit different).

It sounds like you are using an application to import. You can do it manually.
Start > Computer (on the right) > scroll to the bottom and you will see your iPhone under Portable Devices > Open it and you will see a Drive, open that and there will be a DCIM folder. That is where your photos will be (There may be other folders each holding photos).

Camera Roll is the folder on your iPhone which kept all the photos taken from your iPhone Camera or Photos received and saved from your email attachments. They will remain in that folder until you delete them. You may, however, import these photos to your Computer if you want to.

Now the other way round, if you want your Photos from your Computer(whether it's taken from other Digital camera or photos already on your computer) to be transferred to iPhone, you have to sync them over like I mentioned in the first reply.
