Importing pictures into iPhoto from iPhone 4s

I have been trying to import pictures from my iPhone 4s into iPhoto but iPhoto just keeps saying loading and is not downloading any of the pictures on my phone. Can someone please please help me?

Maybe this fix posted by Robin will help:

This solved my questionRe: ios update problem - 7.1 11D167 iphoto not picking up new photos
Mar 20, 2014 7:15 AM (in response to JdinPa)
I figured out the fix for the Mac users having this problem. I connected my iPhone to my iMac and started iTunes. A dialogue came up in iTunes, I OK'd that and then OK'd the usual "Do you trust this Mac" that comes up on my iPhone.
Suddenly Image Capture launched itself and there were all my photos, ready to be downloaded.

Hi, I was importing pictures into iPhoto from my sd card and suddenly iPhoto quit.  Now it just won't open.  When I click on the iphoto icon in the dock, nothing happens!  Does anyone have a solution to this problem please?

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
If it does then your current library has been damaged and should be repaired: apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start
with Option #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • HT2488 I imported pictures into iPhoto from my iPhone, when trying to find my pictures by clicking on iPhoto Library it is always empty. I had to create a new folder and copy the same exact pics in the new folder just to be able to access them.. help plea

I imported photos into iPhoto from my iPhone, however i cannot access them. When clicking on iPhoto Library where they should be stored the folder is blank but if i open up iphoto from the dock menu they appear. I had to create a new folder just to access them. help please, because making a new folder takes up unnecessary space.

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • How to import pix into iPhoto from iphone 3gs on 3.1.2

so my photos sync in itunes...from my mac to my iphone...but my pix taken or saved on my iphone do not..so i went to iphoto and see my iphone is showing as a drive in iphoto..when i click on it there are 253 dotted line only thumbnails...meaning there is no pic or icon, just a hollow white dashed line outline...and the pic name..when i try to import i get erros that the files are not supported or something along those lines..i forget....but yeah..i should be able to import pix taken with and saved to my iphone into iphoto shouldn't i? any help? thanks!

Well, you can try the steps above without resetting your sync history, but make sure you reboot your computer. Also, if you have any pics on your phone that were downloaded from the net or emailed to you, delete them on your phone. Sometimes these get corrupted & give iphoto the fits. Make sure that only photos shot with the phone's camera are on your phone.

  • Error message when importing photos into iPhoto from iPhone 4S

Why is this happening? This is the message I get when I now try to import my photos off my iPhone "ERROR DOWNLOADING IMAGE: iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image."  PLEASE HELP ASAP.  Thanks!

    Good afternoon
There seem to be a number of possibilities.
Here is a thread that conatins a number of solutions.  The most common one is to load 50 pics at a time.

  • You cannot import pictures into iPhoto from a CD in latest Mountain Lion OS.

it says it imports and I see the images but it never copies the images to the master location in the iphoto library.  You need to have the CD in the drive in order to view pictures otherwise it will ask you to locate the picture.  The work around I came up with is to copy the pics from the CD to a folder on the desktop and then import from that folder.

Check your iPhoto Preferences >Advanced to see if iPhoto is set to copy items to the iPhoto Library.
If it is checked and still exhibits this behavior, you might want to visit the Library>Preferences folder and trash your com.apple.iphoto Preferences file.

Does this happen if you try to Import to Library within iPhoto, or is it when you connect your camera (and which is set to automatically use iPhoto) that this error message occurs?
If you open Image Capture > Preferences is iPhoto selected as the choice when a camera is connected?

I have moved my iPhoto to an external hard drive. so now I have to have the external hard drive connected to my laptop to view the photos.  Now when I want to import photos into iPhoto from my media card, I don't have room to connect both devices at the same time as the usb ports are side by side.  How do I import my photos from the media card to the external hard drive now?

First transfer the photos to a folder on your MacBook using Image Capture in your Utilities folder. Then move them to iPhoto.
BTW, you might want to invest in a cheap USB hub.

  • Importing photos into iPhoto from Hard Drive

Mike just downloaded our back up onto our newish Mac after our Macbook bravely went to it's grave in coffee.    I'm now trying to import about 100 - 200G of photos into iPhoto from my hard drive.  I really do not want to spend the whole time selecting and dragging these pictures.  All that I read so far says that is the only way to get them off your hard drive.  Some one please rescue me and tell me there is another way!  Unfortunately I have already started a new photo album with pictures from my iPhone, so I can't just start a new album with these pics.  Thanks for any help I can get. ~Kari A.

first off do not import an old library into iPhoto - it does not work
If you have an old library you simply drag it to the new computer and launch iPhoto while depressing the option key to get the select library window and then select it - repeat to select a different library
If you have just the photos (not =an iPhoto library) then simply drag the folder of photos to iPhoto

  • Best way to import photos into iPhoto from apeture

    Hi
I imported all my photos from iPhoto to apeture a while back, and after using it for a year, have decided its not for me.
Now I want to import them all back into iPhoto from apeture, with preserved events (projects in apeture), metadata and quality.
Can anyone provide a step by step guide to do this easily and efficiently?
    Many thanks in advance
    Richard.

he only communication between the two is as follows:
Aperture is able to parse the iPhoto Library to allow it to import the contents while stacking the Originals and Modified versions, preserving metadata and so forth.
Aperture can share its Previews with the iLife apps, including iPhoto.
    That's it.
So, specifically, what interaction there is between the two is designed to facilitate migration from iPhoto to the more powerful app. After that, iPhoto has exactly the same relationship to the Aperture Library as, say, Pages or iMovie.
iPhoto has no knowledge of, and knows nothing of how the Aperture Library works. It cannot read the Aperture library.
    1. Export all your Masters
    2. Export all your Versions
You can write the metadata to the files on export - check out the Export presets. Note that you cannot export Faces. There is no convention for sharing Faces. The best you can do is use Faces as a basis for keywording.
Import them into iPhoto. Note that there is no way to associate the masters with the versions in iPhoto, so you'll have apparent duplicates.

  • Can't import pictures into iPhoto!

    I have a problem:
Pictures taken with my iPhone don't show up in iPhoto when connected. I can "see" the pictures (gray, no pics actually) but i can't import them. iPhoto gives me the error that the images aren't readable!
    Sam
    I have 1.1.3 installed!

These aren't photos that were captured by the iPhone?
If not, these photos were transferred from your old PC to your iPhone which is not done by magic or without user intervention. Photos transferred to the iPhone from one computer cannot be transferred to another from the iPhone. iPhoto and the Image Capture capture application on a Mac can import photos that were captured by a digital camera - direct from the camera when connected or from the camera's card with a connected card reader, and from the iPhone when connected. When an iPhone includes photos that were captured by the iPhone, it is also detected as a digital camera when connected but photos that were transferred from a computer to the iPhone cannot be imported from the iPhone.
Assuming these photos remain on the old PC, you need to transfer the photos from the PC to the Mac but the iPhone cannot be used for this purpose. If the computers are networked in some fashion, the photos can be transferred this way, or burned to a CD if the PC includes a CD-RW drive. Or an external drive can be used for this purpose. If you have a .Mac account, the photos can be transferred from the PC's hard drive to your iDisk storage and then transferred from your iDisk to the Mac. You have several options but not with the iPhone.

  • Importing pictures into iPhoto and Mac

    Hello,
I like to store my pictures on an external hard drive that I share with my Mac and other PCs and media sharing (PS3, Wii) consoles. I use the iPhoto to organize my pictures on the Mac by event/faces/places etc. But I do not want to use the iPhoto's library to store my pictures. The pictures need to go into my external hard drive.
I do want to use my Mac as the computer to move the pictures from my camera onto my external hard drive. When moving the pictures to my external hard drive, I like to setup a separate folder for each event and name my pictures with the event name and a sequence number.
I have accomplished some of this by setting the preference in iPhoto to not copy the pictures into library when importing.
I am looking for some type of seamless solution to accomplish the following
When I insert the SD card into my Mac, I want it to allow me to copy my pictures where I want them with the names I want to give it and then finally move them to iPhoto for me to organize them using events/faces/places.
If any of you are familiar with the Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard, I am looking for something like that. This software automatically starts up when you connect any camera to it. It brings up all the pictures in the camera and then allows you to select or deselect the pictures you want to move. It then prompts you to enter the file prefix and folder where you want to copy the pictures. Also gives you option to delete the pictures after import. Once you click the button, it starts to copy the pictures and it even lets you publish the pictures to web if you choose to do so.

Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) will do some of what you want. There are other apps that will do batch renaming and so on.
Some comments on your proposed set up:
Having the Library on one volume and the photos referenced from another can be very problematic. iPhoto uses a very simple tool for workign with Referenced Libraries: Aliases. Aliases are perfectly good when the Library and the photo are on the same volume - the alias will track when the original moves and so on. However,  if anything changes in the path to a file on another volume the alias will break, and you'll may find yourself repairing it manually for everyone of these photos, one by one.
Another point to bear in mind, the edited versions of photos will not be available to the other devices.
Iphoto may not be the app you want for this job.

  • Importing photos into iphoto from aperture

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard not realizing Aperture 1.5.6 would not open again. I do not use Aperture enough to pay for an upgrade and want to import my photos into iPhoto for future use. How do I do this (where are the files) and keep the quality of the pictures? If I can get the data into iphoto, can i then delete the aperture file? Thanks

The correct way to do this is to Export from Aperture to folders on the Desktop and then import to iPhoto.
As Aperture 1 won't open for you, you could download a trial of Aperture 2, open your Library, do the exports and then trash the app and the library.
This has the added advantage of it being possible to access versions, metadata that you added in Aperture etc
    Otherwise:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the Aperture Library there.
Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Inside you will see a lot of stuff but you are looking for the .approject packages
So, you will see something like
    JohnsBirthday.apprproject
Right click on that and go Show Package Contents
A new window opens with the project exposed.
Look for a folder called XXXX @ YYYY - 1.apimportgroup - where X and Y are the date and time of the import. Insie that you'll find a folder for each shot you imported. Just drag the original out of there to a folder on the desktop.
Repeat. And Repeat. And Repeat for each photo in your Aperture Library.
This will yield you your Original Files as imported to Aperture.
