Importing pictures to mac from iPhone 4

im trying to import pictures to my mac book pro from my iphone 4 and ive read that it should pop up in iphoto when i open iphoto and then just import them but when i plug my phone in and bring up iphoto it does not show my iphone and i cant figure out how to import them?

That's probably because the other pictures were deleted when you're hard disk failed. You should'vr made a backup

I figured out the fix for the Mac users having this problem. I connected my iPhone to my iMac and started iTunes. A dialogue came up in iTunes, I OK'd that and then OK'd the usual "Do you trust this Mac" that comes up on my iPhone.
Suddenly Image Capture launched itself and there were all my photos, ready to be downloaded.

I tried to import picture/video files from iPhone 5S to MacBook Pro Aperature. It appeared to be trying to download every picture I have ever taken even tho I checked do not import duplicates. The phone is not connected to lap top. It has been spinning for 1/2 day. I can't stop it. I can't shut down the computer. How do I stop the import and shut computer down.

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
If it does then your current library has been damaged and should be repaired: apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start
with Option #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I have exactly the same problem as David Ting. I just bought a brand new iPhone 4 and just want to do the same thing that I did when moved from Symbian to Windows Mobile and from Windows Mobile to Android: import my old SMS messages and call history to my new device.
It's a _complete nonsense_ to be incapable of doing a so simple thing in iOS.
I'm really shocked with this impossibility. I'm starting to think that I just did a very wrong move choosing Apple.

Where I can find it back??

You get one download only.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Use your backup to put everything back.
You can try contacting itunes support and asking for an exception, but they are under no obligation to allow it.

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps. If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later: You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File: a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected. 3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

If for photos/videos in the Camera Roll, iTunes has nothing whatsoever to do with importing photos/videos from the Camera Roll.
I don't believe it is an unreasonable in the least to assume that someone with an iPhone has used a digital camera before and has imported photos from a digital camera at least once with their computer.
And a little advice - people that answer questions here do so voluntarily. It is not a good idea to tell someone who volunteers their time that they didn't answer the question. You may not understand the answer and if not, say so along with I've never imported photos from a digital camera before and/or describe the problem you are having so maybe someone can help you. It is a good idea when asking for help not to assume that someone can read your mind and knows what "I too have problems with this" means exactly.

Questions on importing pictures onto 3G from iPhoto: HOW?

I have a number of pictures I would like to import from a folder I have created in iPhoto 9.2 onto my iPhone 3Gs. I have w few questions:
1. These photos are both RAW and JPG and are between 8MP and 12MP in size. Will they be converted automatically to a size and format usable on the iPhone when imported ?
2. How do I set iPhoto to ONLY import (sync) the photos in one specific folder in iPhoto? I have looked but have not yet been able to find how to navigate to just that specific folder when I have the iPhone attached in iTune's sync function.

Photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process are optimized for viewing on your iPhone. The original resolution and size of the photos transferred is reduced.

Create an iPhoto album for these photos. After doing so, under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences choose selected albums, events, and faces.
Under the Albums section, select the iPhoto album or albums that you want transferred to your iPhone followed by a sync.
If you want to add additional photos to your iPhone, you can place the additional photos in an existing iPhoto album in iPhoto that you have selected to be transferred to your iPhone followed by a sync, or create a new iPhoto album for the new photos. To remove photos from your iPhone, delete the photos from the iPhoto album in iPhoto followed by a sync. To remove an entire iPhoto album from your iPhone, deselect the album in Albums section under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync.

Is it possible to import just the new photos from my iPhone to my computer using iPhoto? Every time I connect my iPhone it wants to re-import every photo in my camera roll-- not just the ones that are new since the last import. I don't want to delete the older photos from the iPhone and I'm tired of re-importing the same photos over and over and having to delete the duplicates.

I using iPhoto version 7 included with iLife 08 which allows for this, but I delete all photos from my iPhone after being imported by iPhoto - as I usually do with any other digital camera after the import process is complete.

Trying to download photos from iphone 4S to a MacBook Pro. The process keeps getting interrupted/stopped with a notice (unreadable files:315). When I click (OK), thinking it will download all other photos other than the 315, it stops downloading. I did this thru Image Capture and also Import Photos in iPhotos. Both did not work. Try:
- Try another cable.
- Try another USB port
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
If still problem then it appears the photo files on the iPod are corrupted or you have a hardware problem with the iPod

You do understand though, that if something happened to your phone - if you lost it, if it were stolen, if you dropped it and were unable to access it, if it got wet - all those pictures that you had not transferred to your computer would no longer be so "handy." Just saying, I have not only read that horror story from many users on this forum, but have seen it live from many users in my own life. Do yourself a favor and back them up sooner rather than later by transferring them all now. Trust me on this, you won't regret it.
