Importing Pictures Without Loosing Quality

I have an image that is pretty high resolution and looks fine in Photoshop CS5.  However, whenever I try to paste it into Flash CS5, it looses quality and looks terrible.  If I try to save it as another image format first and then import it into Flash, the color changes.  Can someone help me figure out how to stop this from happening? The original image is a .tif, so there are only a limited number of formats that I can convert it to using Photoshop. Thank you.

To resize an image in PS, resize before you save and do not use "Save for Web" to resize unless you want to lower the quality.
From the main menu choose "Image" then "Image Size". Set your desired pixel dimensions and resolution in the popup dialog box. Choose "Constrain Proportions" and "Resample" using Bicubic.
Typical screen resolution is 72 pixels per inch, while print resolution is 300+ pixels per inch. So if you save a 1000 x 500 px image and display it on a monitor, it will display at approx 13.9 x 6.9 inches but if you print that exact same image it will print out at approx 3.3 x 1.7 in.
So resize the image BEFORE you save, then just save as usual, giving the file a different name than the original (so you always have a HI-Res version).
Best of luck!

Final Cut Express 4.0.1 How do I convert MP4 to a usable format without loosing quality

If you shoot in one of the following modes you should be able to Log & Transfer directly into FCE:
HD:  1920x1080/60i (FX or FH mode)
HD:  1440x1080/60i (HQ or LP mode)
    SD:  720x480/60i
1080/60p (PS mode) seems to be the default mode in your camcorder.  FCE only supports progressive video in 720p50 or 720p60.   That's probably why you have had to import via iMovie.
It would be better to upgrade to Final Cut Pro X, the version currently supported.  FCE was discontinued over 18 months ago and is not supported on Lion or Mountain Lion.

  • Need to import from Maya 3D model in an Air-flash cs4 desktop application without loosing quality

    Hello everybody,
We developed an air flash cs4 desktop application for the medical industry.
Our application is too large because instead of using the 3 D model made via Maya, we use many images to simulate the rotation in order to keep the hight quality of the images.
When we first developed the application we used C++ but we were loosing too much quality because we could not import the texture and the light effect at the same time - we could import only one of them.
Now that we are using flash cs4 do you know if we could import in flash cs4 the 3D model which contains a hight amount of polygone with the texture and the light effect without any problem ? that could solve maybe our issu regarding the size of our application.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Best regards
    Rachel

I would look into using Papervision 3D, a full 3D engine for Flash.  This is built by a 3rd party, but is the current standard for doing these types of things.
You can export the Maya project out to a compatible format for use in Papervision.

  • Pictures are loosing quality when imported into I photo 08

    Hello all,
I have just recently made the switch to mac with no regrets, only a few questions. Here is my situation. I recently took some pictures at a wedding, I have a nikon d80 set with a jpeg setting. Now the pictures when viewed on my camera, on my windows PC and in finder look great. When I imported them into i photo, all the photo's have more red tones in them. Please advise.
One more thing, when I imported the pictures, I saved them all to the hard drive, then imported them into i photo. don't know if it makes a difference.

SD video is just 1/3 megapixel. Importing a multi-megapixel image into iMovie turns it into a 1/3 megapixel image (or if you use Ken Burn: a 1/3 megapixel video).
Fear not. When you burn a DVD it will look just fine.
IMPORTANT: When sending to iDVD from iMovie, iMovie may tell you that some stills are not rendered. Do NOT let iMovie render them. iDVD will do a much better job rendering them.

  • How to export a short  film made with still images without loosing quality?

    Hi,
I have been trying everything to make a short film, which is made with still images, to look decent once exported however it is a real challenge. Here are the steps I have undertaken:
1- I prepare the photographs and give them the aspect ration of 720p and whatever height as I try not to crop them too much at 300dpi. They look great in photoshop or capture one. I then save them as.tiff. All the images are RGB.
2- I start a new project in premiere pro cs4 and make it DV Pal 25fps.
3-I import the images and place them on the timeline. If they are a bit too big I rescale them. The images seem to look ok on the timeline although I seem to have lost the deepness of the colours.
    4-I render the work area
5-I export it as quicktime, dv pal, quality 100.
My dilemna is that although exporting with quicktime, dv pal, quality 100 seems to give me the best quality compared to using quicktime animation, mpeg2, cinemak, avi..., the images are still not as sharp as in Photoshop and the colours look a lot paler and washed out. Also, when looking close to the screens you can see tiny squares on the images although from distance it's not too bad. When I view it from the exported file using Nero it's not too bad although definitely not perfect, as soon as I try to make a DVD and import it in Adobe Encore CS4 or send it by Dynamic Link, the quality looks horrible with images that look soft if not blurred and completely washed out.
I have now tried about t bu15 versions to see what 's the best I still have not reached the optimum quality and since these will be shown on big tvs or projected onto screens I need to nail it.
Would anybody have any advice please please please?
    Many Thanks

My overall advice is to do that kind of work in an application that is designed for that.  Give Photodex Proshow Producer trial a crack at it.  I do a lot of work with stills, and that IMO PSP is the best approach.  If you are intermixing the odd still, Pr may get you by.  If you plan on doing a lot of that, try proshow, where the workflow and extensive features are designed for making high quality videos from stills that can be output to a wide number of formats and destinations, including color management with many of them( including avi).  And, no need to resize.  I know this won't solve your present problem.
Obviously, your attempt in Pr has not worked out as you had hoped. Maybe a bit more info would help. How are you rescaling them in Pr? That might well account for some quality loss. What is the original format and size of the images? What color management are you using in PS? Are you using any color correction or effects in Pr? Is your project interlaced or progressive?
From your description,  you are not even getting the quality you should be getting from Pr IMO, though as Jim says, it is video and it will never look as pristine as it does in PS, but it still seems to me that something you are doing has degraded the work more than normally would be expected.

  • How can I delete imported pictures without itunes

I have some imported photos which i dont want anymore, but itunes wont work on my computer for some reason, so itunes is out of the picture and i need some help.

    Two solutions:
    - Wait for iOS 5.  Howevr, that will require a computer to install it.
    - Completely erase your iPod by going to Settings>General>Reset>Erase Content and Settings.  However, I thin that requires that you connect the iPod to a computer to reactivate it.
Answer, is there really is not way.

  • Converting .MTS for use in Final Cut Express, without loosing quality

I have an external hard drive full of .MTS files from my JVC camcorder that I cannot open with Final Cut Express.
I bought a piece of conversion software, iSkySoft Video Converter, to convert them into a more accessible format such as .mov or .avi, but they lose their HD quality during the conversion. I have also tried software available through Mac, Voltaic, but this also seems to dilute picture quality.
In a previous post, I was recommended Clip Wrap, but having downloaded it, it will not let me open my .MTS files to convert in the first place. I have contacted Clip Wrap Support about this, but am yet to hear back.
I would like suggestions as to how to open these .MTS files in Final Cut, or a piece of conversion software that retains full high definition quality when converting.
I am not very computer savvy, Im afraid, so can any technical jargon be explained as best as possible please! Just for reference, in case it helps, my camcorder is a JVC GZ-HD10.
    Thank you.

MarkTrif, if iskysoft isn't working, use mpeg streamclip to try again, it is free. or get another good third party MTS converter like HD Video Converter for Mac, specially designed to convert HD video formats like AVCHD (mts, m2ts), H.264/AVC, MPEG-2 (ts), DivX, HD WMV, MPEG-4 to SD videos like AVI, MPEG, WMV, MP4, DivX, MOV, my friends recommend it to me, it's safe and works pretty well for me. keep the video image quality. If you are interested in it, here is a step by step guide about how to use it

There is no way to import from an iPhoto Library to a Photos one. You can migrate an entire Library at one time, that's all. Otherwise your choice is to export from iPhoto to the Finder, thereafter import to Photos.

    Photoshop General Discussion

Why has nobody suggested the "Blend If" solution yet?
    - double-click on the layer thumbnail of the dragon line art
    - Hold down <Alt> and drag the left half of the "This Layer" slider to the left, and the right slider as well, but not as much for a nicer blending.
Done. The only trouble is that you cannot add (for example) a color overlay effect to recolour the lines directly because this layer is not considered truly transparent by Photoshop (in Photoline this is not an issue luckily). In Photoshop's case you will have to merge it to a new layer, and only then does Photoshop treat the transparent pixels as "real" transparent ones. Some tips to do that can be found here: Create A Composite Layer | Planet Photoshop
Alternatively, convert the layer to a smart object, and you can apply layer effects and the like without issues. I would choose the latter option, since it is non-destructive.
This method, however, does not take the pre-multiplied edge pixels into account (which are multiplied with white), and thus you lose those pixels. This may be an undesired side effect, especially for more delicate art work. A better approach is to use an "unmultiply" effect.
In Photoline a non-destructive adjustment layer will allow us to do exactly this with any background colour, and with additional controls as well. Unfortunately, such a filter is unavailable in Photoshop. Luckily enough an action for Photoshop is available: http://www.ayatoweb.com/download/down04.html
    - download the action (zip file) and load up the actions in Photoshop (I have no idea if this action still works in CC and above - I own a license of CS6 only).
    - since this will unmultiply BLACK, you must first invert the artwork with <CTRL> <i>.
    - run the action "unmultiply English".
    - The black background is removed, and you now invert the artwork back to its original black.
Done! Notice how all of the original edge pixels remained unaffected. Those are now truly semi-transparent, and blend nicely with the background layer(s). A bit of a shame this is a destructive workflow, but the result is great.

  • HI everybody i want to ask if you come me in help, i want to draw paths but when i use stroke options with pen or brush settings i loose quality when i zoom in , can someone help me with pen settings???

HI everybody i want to ask if you come me in help, i want to draw paths but when i use stroke options with pen or brush settings i loose quality when i zoom in , can someone help me with pen settings???

The work path is a vector object, and infinitely scalable, but when you stroke it, Photoshop lays pixels on a layer that follow the path.  These pixels are raster based and can not be scaled without loosing quality.  You do have options.  If you want to make the raster layer bigger, transform the work path and stroke it again.  Or work at a higher resolution in the first place.
Incidentally, you can't stroke a Path with the Pen, because it is a Vector based tool, and stroking is a raster based function.

  • ? loosing quality when rendering many times ?

Here is my question: after you have rendered a clip, yet you may want to change some parameters so that the whole clip is to be redered again; sometimes, you do this many times untill you've got what you want, like color or exposure and so on. Does FCP render it again from the original unrendered media or from the already rendered clip in the timeline? I mean, if it's from the original media, you may render and render again without loosing quality. If not, you've got to know exactly what you want from the first time, otherwise you'll soon have a very bad result. Anybody knows about this?

    Kevan,
    Why would it do that?
For example: you have a clip running at 90% of normal speed. To play back that clip on the timeline you likely need to render it.
You make an edit where you increase the speed of the clip from 90% to 95%.
What possible value would re-using the existing render file be in this case? It is still going to have to calculate every frame and no time or CPU cycles would be saved (it actually would be more complex to calculate the real speed from the render than the original).
It makes no sense to me to have the system work that way.

One of these days I'm going to get back down to C'ville!

  • How should I best import HD Videos from the new iPad to my mac without loosing video quality?

The new HD video on the new iPad is awesome, but it can eat up a lot of memory in no time. I would like to know what is the most recommended way to export my ipad movies to iLife on my mac without loosing image quality, so i can free up space on my iPad.
If I use iPhoto I notice that the file size of the video from the new iPad is a lot smaller then if I use iMovie to import the same video.
Example: I import a 53 second video from the new iPad to iPhoto and the imported file has a file size of 143 MB in iPhoto. (iphoto save the video as IMG_0048.mov)
I import the same video to iMovie manually and the imported file size is 843 MB in iMovie. BIG DIFFERENCE. (iMovie saves that same video as clip-2012-03-20 16;13;08.mov)
Now to really be confusing: I go to Image Capture program and locate the file manually on my iPad and is has the same name and file size is what is in iPhoto.
So either iMovie is making the File a lot larger when it imports to an event, or the file I'm looking at is actually the iPhoto version that I get because I sync with iPhoto.
The second issue that I have is that now I have 2 videos on my hard drive: one in iPhoto, and one in iMovie for a combined data storage of close to 1 GB.
I would like to be able to import ALL my iPad recording into iPhoto and then delete the video from the device when done.
But if I loose video quality, I'm not happy about that. Secondly, by importing video from my iPad into multiple iLife programs, I'm creating duplicates with sometimes different quality. Any suggestions? is there a setting in iPhoto that can do all this for me?
    Robert

Don't use iphoto to deal with movies. it's not really meant for that. use Quicktime or iMovie to work with your videos
