Importing Premiere Pro 1.5 project into After Effects 5.5?

I tried unsuccessfully to import a Premiere Pro 1.5 project into After Effects 5.5, so am guessing the two programs are not compatible. Which version of AE would I need in order to make this work?

Well, only logical - AE 5.5 is 2 years, before PremierePro 1.0 even existed, so it wouldn't know anything about the file format. At least CS is required, meaning AE 6.5.

  • Import Premiere Pro CS3 Windows projects into Premiere Pro CS5 Mac.

Hi there people. I hope you can help me. I have had premiere pro CS3 on my windows system for some years but now run a Mac with Master Collection CS5, my problem is that my existing prproj files on windows format do not open in CS5 Premiere Pro for Mac, I get a message telling me that I need to see the user guide for importing options, I have tried to do so, but there is no information about how to do this.
Can anyone here please tell me how to get around this, as I need to rework some of these old windows projects however my old windows system is totally dead now so I cannot open the files in the CS3 windows version either.
Please help, oh and spare me the useless windows vs. mac arguments.
I hope someone here can help
    Thanks

Since you are trying to Open a CS3 PC Project, you should not have THAT many issues in CS5 Mac. Have you tried both the Open and Import - similar but different operations? Have both methods failed?
One possible problem would be the Effects & Transitions used in the CS3 PC Project. Here is a LIST of the Transitions and Effects in CS4 for the PC, that are missing in the Mac version. I would assume that CS3 and CS5 would be similar. However, in similar cases, PrPro has thrown a more specific error message. I have only Opened Pr 6.5 Mac Projects into PrPro 2.0 PC, and these have been almost perfect. Where there were missing Transitions, I got a very explicit message, telling me what had been used that was missing from my program, and exactly where the problem existed (specific TimeCode). In my case, two Transitions just did not exist in my PrPro 2.0, and one was a 3rd party Transition, or Effect, and I did not have that. Still, the older Mac Projects Opened fine, and I just made note of where I would need to make changes. I would anticipate that similar would occur, if the Mac version did not have some Transition, or Effect, but do not know specifically. Still, based on the warning messages that I got, with such complete documentation, I'd expect similar.
Now another consideration - Assets. If there are Assets that you cannot work with on your Mac, say DV-AVI, or WMV, those would likely throw an error. Again, I would expect that error message to elaborate a bit more.
Do you know the details of your CS3 Projects and their Assets? Anything that you can think of there?
Just thinking here, and unfortunately, I have never gone the direction that you are going, and with the versions that you are working with, so something simple and glaring (to others) might just be slipping past me.
Good luck, and maybe others will have much better input on your issue. Also - welcome to the forum!

  • Import Premiere Pro CS5.5 Project into FCPX?

It's hard to hunt down ideas online, but if the new FCP update is good there may soon be a lot of people trying.
The only way I could figure out to do it was to export FCP XML from PPCS5.5, import that into FCP7, then use 7toX to get it from FCP7 to FCPX.  I just can't get it to work the way it's supposed to.
My PPCS5.5 project is a monster, which probably doesn't help.  PP lets me export it just fine, but when I try to import what it exports into FCP7, I get a bunch of "'looking for movie in file' X" messages, then FCP7 crashes.  If I click to search for a file it says it wants, that file is always for some reason grayed out and unselectable, arg.
Anyone have any ideas that maybe eliminate the FCP7 middleman?
    Thanks...

you will need a middle man. At least until PPRO is capable of exporting to FCPx XML.
My middleman is called Resolve Light from BlackMagicDesign. It is FREE to download and iin my experience it converts beautifully from PPRO XML to FCPX XML.
There you will import the PPRO XML and export it as FCPX XML.

  • Importing Premiere Pro project into After Effects ???

When I import a Premiere Pro project into After Effects, it splits every shot onto a new track, ending up with a couple of hundred tracks at the end.
Is there a way to avoid this ?
Particularly, since I'd want to keep the option of bringing the project file back in Premiere for further editing.
My colorist suggested that I nest reels of my timeline and split it that way so that when he imports it he has nests on one timeline and the multiple tracks in each of those nests. Still, this feel very clunky.

An editor at work was using our Avid to do a grade on a short promo and I
wanted to see what I could do in After Effects. So when he was out of the
office I exported the timeline as an AAF and copied the OMFI media. When I
brought the project into After Effects I ended up with a massive number of
layers and freaked at first at the idea of doing anything with it.
However I thought about it again and decided to precompose all the layers,
as this gave me just one layer to work with. I then added a couple of
Adjustment Layers above it; one with a Levels effect added and the other
with HSL. I also added Masks to the Adjustment Layers so I could vignette
    any effect.
The key to working like this was to use Hold Keyframes at the beginning of
each new shot for each effect, Mask Shape and Feather. I could then adjust
that shot, scrub to the next shot add new Hold Keyframes adjust that shot
and so on. When I wanted to repeat any effect settings on a shot, I just cut
and pasted the relevant keyframes. Mixes across shots can be tricky but you
can always go back to work with the original shots on their separate layers
    if you need to.
I ended up with a quick grade that stood up nicely against the one done on
the Avid and I only had work with 3 layers on my timeline!

  • Arbitrary data param not importing from Premiere Pro project into After Effects.

    Hi,
I have an AE SDK plugin effect that works in Premiere Pro and After Effects... the effect has a bunch of standard parameters and one Arbitrary Data parameter.
I believe that the Arbitrary data parameter is implemented correctly, and I have implemented all of the cases for PF_Cmd_ARBITRARY_CALLBACK...
    PF_Arbitrary_NEW_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_DISPOSE_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_COPY_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_FLAT_SIZE_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_FLAT_SIZE_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_FLATTEN_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_UNFLATTEN_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_INTERP_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_COMPARE_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_PRINT_SIZE_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_PRINT_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_SCAN_FUNC
The only issue I have found, is that when importing a Premiere Pro project into After Effects with the "Import -> Adobe Premiere Pro Project" option, the value in the Arbitrary Data
parameter is always the default. There is no problem saving or re-opening projects within AE or PP... and there are no problems with cutting and pasting instances of the effect.
Importing a Premiere Pro project into After Effects using the Dynamic Link works correctly... the Arbitrary data is imported.
    Thanks.

Some kind of answer would be awesome... there are Adobe staff members on here right?

Since my colorsit doesn't have CS4, I nested sequences in another timeline so that when I imported project in AE my colorist could see the one clip nest and click it to see other timeline to see all clips detail.
    Thank you.

  • Problem importing adobe premiere project into After effects CS6

I've been working in Adobe's premiere and after effects for quite a few years now and this problem is new to me.
I'm working on a project in After Effects CS6 and want to import a premiere pro project into After Effects. I go -> File -> import -> adobe premiere project
    Select project
    Select sequence
Now After Effects CS6 imports all files from the premiere pro project like before in CS5, but now also imports the videofiles as sequences at the root in my project panel and messes everything up. Before it usually imported nice and tidy with the same folder structure as the premiere pro project would have.
But that isn't the main problem. When i open the sequence i wanted to import and work on, some clips have been shortened down to 1 FRAME LONG  at the end. These clips have a 500% speed  in premiere pro, but this has never been a problem before, after effects has always before been able to translate the speed variations in clips from premiere -> after effects.
The adobe premiere project that was imported is a 60 sec promo with various clips in various formats (Gopro h264, dv pal quicktime etc). Footage not exceeding the fair amount that after effects should handle. 15-20 videfiles at 30 sec each.
I've never had this problem before with premiere <-> after effects.
    Anyone?

    I just found the solution!
In my adobe premiere project that i was trying to import, some of the clips were "right clicked" and applied "Scale to frame size"
Every videoclip that had "scale to frame size" in my adobe premiere pro sequence would import as its own composition in After Effects rather than just a videofile, and some of the clips would be trimmed down to be invisible.
So if you have any problem with a clip not importing correctly into a sequence in after effects, check to make sure "scale to frame size" is not applied to the clip in premiere pro.
I removed the scale to frame size in the premiere project and now everything imports fine into after effects.
    Sorry for the post.

  • Problem with importing premiere project into after effects

Hi. When I import premiere project into after effects CS4 the files I speed up 2x (for example) look likes on the snapshot below, and they are not in the correct places.
    what can I do?

Then don't speed them up... This is "as designed". AE and Premiere are not compatible in their tiem-remapping/ time-stretching, so tehre is no way to move between them without losing that info.

  • Problems Importing Premiere Pro Project into After Effects

I've got my first Pemiere Pro CS6 project completed. Now i want to import it into After Effects CS6 to add titles.
The PR file includes two segments, two still photos and two AE compositions. I am trying to import the PR project into AE two different ways:
    1. File>Import> Adobe Dynamic Link>Adobe Premier Project. When I do this, the project looks great in the Footage tab of the RAM preview window on the right. But when I make a new sequence to get it on the Timeline so that I can begin to add titles, I get only  blackness in the Comp tab of the ram preview window whether I am playing a RAM preview or a spacebar preview.
    2. File>Import> Adobe Premier Project. When I do this, the two AE segments are missing.
I am on an iMac with OSX.7.4.
Can anyone give me some advice on the best way to do this?
    Thanks!

You will need to render out those two AE compositions to video before you can bring them back into AE through dynamic link.  If you are concerned with making changes, you can always replace footage in Premiere with a new render.
Dynamic Link is just not designed with your workflow -- AE doesn't open multiple projects at one time, and your workflow ends up with AE trying to open 3.
You can bring those two compositions into AE as imports.  They won't be linked together (so any changes in original project will not reflect in imported version) but you would have all 4 elements in one AE project.

  • Bringing Premiere Pro project into After Effects

I tried importing Premiere Pro projects to After Effects, but I only got the various files, not the timeline. I just watched a tutorial about Dynamic Link, but when I clicked Adobe Dynamic Link/New After Effects composition in Premiere, I got a layer that was all black, with no sound. I have CS3 Production Premium and Windows XP Media Center SP2.
Right now, I just want to keep what I edited in Premiere, but I get better quality video if I export it to H.264 MOV in After Effects than anything I've found in Premiere. I can't understand why that's so, but until I find something just as good in Premiere, I want to save everything in After Effects.

Create a project and a comp. Copy the timeline from Premiere Pro and paste it into the timeline of After Effects.

  • Importing Motion project into After Effects

I am attempting to import a Motion 4 project in After Effects CS4. I am using the suggested instructions:
1 In After Effects, choose File > Import > File.
2 In the Import File dialog, choose All Files from the Enable pop-up menu.
3 Click to select the Motion project you want to import.
4 Choose QuickTime Movie from the Format pop-up menu.
    5 Click Open.
Motion does not show up in After Effects. What went wrong?

  • Question - Importing Flash Project into After Effects, Possible?

    Hi,
Is there a way to open a Flash file (FLA) in After Effect?, cause I saw you can open an AEP that was converted to XFL in Flash... I want to be able to open my Flash project in After Effects, same way I can import a PSD as a composition, is there a way to do that?

No, not possible. The principles are too different and it would require too many resources just to develop a conversion method. If you look closely, you will notice that even XFL is somewhat limited because of that. You can, however, still import SWF files once you are done with your work in Flash or render an image sequence from there.

  • Cannot import .mov files (from JVC HM100) into After Effects CS6

    Hi,
I am trying to import .mov files into After Effects CS6.  Unfortunately, when I try to import the .mov files, AE tells me "After Effects error: 210_0001_01.mov cannot be imported -- this '.mov' file is damaged or unsupported."  The file works in Premiere CS6.   I have the latest Quicktime, and even with Quicktime 7 Pro installed, I got that same result.  I would appreciate any advice on this problem.
    Thank you.

I'm going to set up a new sequence with just the clip I'm using after effects on.  I'm going to import that sequence into AE.
Your footage is currently a long-gop codec, which may be giving Mocha fits.  So instead of Dynamic Link, you may want to simply export the clip in question from Premiere using a lossless codec.  Remember to leave handles on the footage.
To get back to Premiere you would then render in a lossless codec.  It's not very handy, but it will get the job done.
Give it a try and see what happens.

  • Sequence from Premiere Pro has no Sound in After Effects

I created a video Premiere CS5.5 and would now like to take the final cut into After Effects CS5.5. I exported the file as an AVI
(NTSC DV, uncompressed audio) and it plays well in every player I've tried it in. However, now that I'd like to just drop the file into AE the
audio will not play. There is a waveform being displayed for the layer but the audio mixer display doesn't even react when I play it in AE.
    Any thoughts?

    Audio enabled in Preview Panel?
Does audio play when you press the . on the numeric keypad or pick Composition>Preview>Audio?
Are you using the 0 key on the numeric keypad or the Preview button on the Preview Panel to generate a ram preview?
Will a standard wav file play?
    Are you an AE Newbie?
Did you read this FAQ on audio playback?
Did you read the AE Help file on Audio Preview and Playback?

  • Import of Premiere Pro 2.0 projects into Premiere CS5.5 - poor results

    Hello Folks,
I am planing  to upgrade my Premiere Pro 2.0 to CS5.5. I am trying the test version which I like very much.
But I have problems when I try to work with my old projects.
Indeed I can import them (copies of course) into the CS5.5 whithout any trouble. But any sequences which formerly consisted of many clips and titles are now only one monolytical stripe in the timeline. It is the whole film, but no clips or any other components can be seen any more.
I need to see the whole thing as it was during development, not just something like the final version.
I read several threads in this forum about open / inport problems. But they all sounded as they concerned about more basic steps.
I can do imports, but the resulsts are poor.
Does anyone know the trick I have to apply - or is this realy what Adobe calls "import" ?
Best regards to all of you
    Trombach

    Harm,
I must admit - this is just too crazy.
I pulled it to the timeline instead.
I pulled different sequences,  I believe I spent over an hour pulling .... !
THANK YOU so much for enlighting me.
From now on I will always double click before asking green horn questions in forums ..
