Importing pro-Tools Commands into Logic

I just started working in Logic today... I mostly work in pro-tools though... anyone know of a place online to find the commands for pro-tools to import into logic? it would help me a lot! Maybe someone already manually did this and can export it to me... Thanks! God bless!

There's one here:

  • Importing Pro Tools Sessions to Logic Pro

I'm just getting my feet wet in Logic but was wondering if there is any good step by steps out there to help import and open Pro tools sessions into Logic.
    Thanks, Chris

This one always seemed to be an issue. As it's said in previous post, I bounce each track seperately, plus if i was mixing externally and want to keep some of the signl proccessing then you can record an effect, or just record a mix of that soloed track, then bounce it. Import audio into Logic, then quite useful is a function of 'strip the silence' which seemed to be working quite well dealing with precise cutting out all the silences to get rid of all the background noise. Obviously not an ideal way of file interchange, but there are ways to get you way aroud things.

  • I have Logic Express 7. Can I import Pro Tools sessions into that?

I'm trying to export my PT sessions into Logic Express 7. Can I do this?

The easiest, guarantedd-to-work way, is to export all your track from PT sessions as AUDIO.
Have them ALL consolidated at the same exact start point, and then import them inot Logic. Line them up to th same start point, and PRESTO! You're there.
Logic LE does NOT support any of the OMF and other formats of mutli-track import-export stuff, only Logic PRO.
    Cheers
PS I always do it the way I described for you, with no issues, no "my OMF file is corrupted"

  • Pro Tools files into Logic - How?  Possible?

    Hi,
My friend has Pro Tools (Mac), I'm on Logic. What does he have to do so I can easily push a button in Logic and all files will come up - just like on his ProTools.
How does he have to save the files?
He sent me a DVD of audio (Waves)... I hit IMPORT on Logic - doesn't want to import for some reason.
Thoughts, suggestions appreciated - I want to get Space Designer on these tracks ASAP!
    Thanks.

normally, he should export them as an OMF file. if he has saved the PT session, you can make an OMF out of that without evening having PTs using OMF tool. it runs in classic. if you can't find it or your mate won't or can't do you an OMF i would be happy to email the tools to you. they do work - but you might need to get your mate to downsave the PT project to version 4 or something.

  • Opening a pro tools project in logic

    hello all,
i've got a .ptf file and i would like to keep order (not just import the wave files). is there any way that I could import/open the pro tools file to logic?

This is very easy. In Protools select an area in the arrangement which contains ALL of your regions, and has a definite start and end point (for simplicity). Then hit OptionCommand3 and protools will start duplicating the information, while at the same time making new contiguous files for each track.
You can then just drag and drop into Logic.

  • Importing A-Dat tapes into Logic

I have lots of 8 –track Adat tapes of recording sessions that I’ve done for the last 10 years or so. The recording session were for various Jazz projects. I have rough mixes from those sessions that I’ve been able to listen to. But, I don’t have a A-Dat player. So the original A-Dat tapes have gone un-used for some time.
The thought occurred to me that maybe I can import the a-Dat tapes into Logic and mix and master them on my own. The thing is that I’m not totally sure of the “best” way to go about it.
At the moment, I am using a small Firebox interface. I suppose that I would need to get a larger 8track interface like maybe a Firepod? I would also need to buy a A-Dat machine. I’ve seen these on E-Bay for a couple of hundred. I would imagine that I would take each of the 8 A-Dat track to a separate input on the Firepod, create 8 new audio tracks in Logic, press record in Logic and press play on the A-Dat?
Is that it? Or is there a proper way to do this that I don’t know about?
    Thanks,
    Morris

    Hi,
Yes you can definitely import your ADAT tapes into Logic.
Here's how to solve the issue:
1.You should buy an ADAT tape machine, make SURE you get the right one,as the newer one recorded at 20bit,and the older(blackface)only did 16bit.This part is crucial.I would probably recommend you get as newer an ADAT machine as possible, and look for low head hours too.
2.Buy an audio interface that supports the ADAT lightpipe format.Usually this can be from a cheap box to an expensive one.Just make SURE it does support the ADAT standard.
3.Buy 2 ADAT optical lightpipe cables long enought to connect the ADAT machine to your audio interface. You WILL need both cables to ensure correct digital audio synchronization.
4.You will need another interface, such as a Unitor8mkii or a Motu MTP/av USB model,in order to slave Logic to you ADAT machine via MMC protocol. Please refer to chapter 19 Synchronization page 605/619 of the Logic Pro reference manual to learn how to sync Logic to the ADAT.
5.Yes,you would be able to record ALL 8 ADAT channels at once,in one "pass".
Just make SURE you read the manual in step 4 thoroughly and test your setup BEFORE recording,to ensure you are doing it correctly.
    Cheers

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Apple offered a refund for users who purchased Logic Pro 9 30 days or less before the Logic Pro X launch, but they don't do it anymore, so if you want to upgrade to Logic Pro X, you have to purchase it in the Mac App Store
    Part of this is incorrect...
Some App Store employee's "accidentally" (but in good faith) issued refunds to a few users who had purchased Logic 9 within 30 days prior to the mid-July release of Logic-X. Word quickly came down from Apple HQ that this was against App Store policy and the practice was immediately stopped.
To the original poster.. you never stood a chance, even if they were issuing refunds you didn't fall within the 30 day period.  There were many who purchased Logic 9 a few days before the LX release who did not get a refund.

  • Updating playhead in Pro Tools (slave) from Logic (master) using MTC.

    Hey there,
I have setup MIDI over LAN using the Audio MIDI Setup between two Macs and it works so far as when I hit play in Logic the Film in my Pro Tools picture machine seems to be in sync with the music coming from Logic. Questions:
    1) When nudging the playhead in Logic left and right the corresponding timecode changes are not updated on the Pro Tools machine until you hit play again in Logic. Is there any way Pro Tools can update it's play head, timecode values and picture as I nudge the Logic playhead without pressing play again? It would be great to nudge the Logic session by one frame and see the update in Pro Tools accordingly.
    2) When I hit play to stop the music in Logic the time code readings are not the same in each DAW how can this be remedied so that they are? Is something going wrong here? e.g. stopped @ 01:00:03:04 in Logic and Pro Tools reads 01:00:03:09.
Using Pro Tools 9.05, Logic Studio 9.1.8 (64-bit).
    Thank you!
    Ben

Ok after more testing I have managed to get this working using a direct midi connection between the 003 and the laptop (using a Edirol UM1 and the 003). Here is what I did.
ProTools8LE as master running on MacPro:
    1. Setup->Session
1a. Set the session start time to 00:00:00:00
    1b. Time code rate =25
    2. Setup->Peripherals
2a. Synchronization - MTC reader Port: Digi 003, Port 1
MTC Generator Port: Digi 003, Port 1
    3. Set session tempo (eg: 120bpm)
    4. Transport- hit the arrow on the right hand side of the transport window and select "Synchronization" then hit the GEN MTC button
    LOGIC slave running on Laptop.
    1. Connect MIDI i/o interface to ports on 003
    2. Set session tempo to match that in PT (120bpm)
    3. Settings->Synchronization
    Sync mode = MTC
Auto Enable External Sync = yes
Frame Rate = 25 (same as protools)
Auto detect format of MTC = yes
Bar position 1111 plays at SMPTE 00:00:00:00 (this matches the setting in PT)
Thats it. This setup appears to be working on my rig. I still haven't got this to work over Network midi, and I still haven't got PT8LE and Logic 8 to work together on the same machine. Let me know how you go.

  • Anyone got Pro Tools 8 and Logic 8 to sync together?

Hi all - I have read the forums over at DUC (digidesign) regarding syncing Logic and PT via IAC on the same machine and via Network Midi or via midi ports on a 003. I have been unable to slave Logic to Protools 8 both on the same machine (using IAC) or running Logic 8 from a laptop connected via Network Midi, or via the midi ports on a 003.
The threads on this (working) seem to reflect the use of Pro tools 7.4.2 and earlier, not Pro Tools 8. I am looking for any user who has managed to get Pro Tools 8 and Logic 8 to sync together (either on separate machines, or the same machine). If so, I would appreciate a step by step on what you have done to achieve sync between the two programs, since I have now exhausted all of the solutions posted over at DUC.
I am running PT8 LE with a 003 on a MacPro Quad, and Logic 8 on a Macbook Pro. Thanks in advance.

There are "free download" EXS presets - look at the bottom of the [home page|http://www.vengeance-sound.com/eng/indexes/indexFreeSounds.html] "Vengeance EXS Presets" and download.

  • Imported 1h 20m file into Logic Pro 7.1.1.it Became Unstable

Imported an hour and twenty minute file into logic, and it became really unstable. i tried to cut the region up, and save the clips as differnt files, but it wouldn't let me stopped playing the file after a certain bar (bar 57).
    is this normal behavior?

Try trashing Logic prefs. (Or move to desktop to re-import keycommands)

My buddy told me it's probably the sample rate and I have to match it to what the pro tools session was, I'm sure thats all that it is, but wanted to double check with you guys as I'm not at the studio right now and dont have internet there.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
It's set at the wrong sample rate. Check the audio files, and match logic's sample rate to match.

  • Pro Tools convert to Logic Newbie some simple question for logic users

Hey guys, I am a recent convert from Pro Tools! and There were just some simple questions I thought some of you may be able to help me out with. I am using Logic 9.1.1
    1) After I set up a multi timbral software instrument (in this case MOTU Symphonic Library) how do I set up midi channels to trigger the individual sounds in the instrument. (in pro tools I used to create a midi track then send an output of that track to that particular soft synth)
    2) How do I set up a and forgive my Pro Tools vocab but basically I want to set up a reverb channel on an aux track have it receive on a bus so I can send other tracks to that particular bus.
Thanks for the insight and really looking forward to finally make use of all this ram! lol

    1) I have a nord stage and would like record via midi. In pro tools i would usually need to create a midi track with the output set the the nord and an audo aux track to hear it What would I do in order to record midi from my nord stage?
To record, just select a non-audio track, hit record and play the keyboard. The notes will get recorded into a region.
If you want to play it back to the Nord Stage as well, then it makes sense to set the Nord up as a MIDI device in your templates, so you can just add the Nord to a track and not worry about what MIDI ports it's on etc. Open the environment, create a New -> Instrument, called it "Nord Stage", set the MIDI port and MIDI channels it's on, and sav your template.
Now, when you start a song, to sequence the Nord, you just assign the Nord instrument to a track (by for instance, right clicking on a track and choosing your Nord instrument from the list of environment obects that appears).
    2) The multi instrument trick is quick and easy its great but How would I do that manually?
Lots of ways, look into your key commands, ther are all kinds of "Create track with same instrument", "Create track with next MIDI channel" and so on. There are too many ways to do this to quickly talk about here. In short, all tracks have an environment object assigned to them, whether it's an audio object, or a MIDI instrument object, and this determines where the data on the track goes.
    3) How do you set up midi so that it doen'ts overwrite notes when recording over them?
Not sure I understand you here...

  • Import/Export tool Command line syntax for R2

Would anyone please advise the syntax of command line import/export tool for XIR2?
Read this post below for importing from a biar file but not sure how to export from BO into a biar file.
How to log BIAR export/import from command line
We're in fact trying to migrate from R2 into R3. The import wizard provided by BO doesn't work well with favorites and inboxes migration due to the large volume of data we need to migrate, hence looking for alternatives.
Any advice around this line would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Denis,
Thanks for your reply. This at least saved my effort to explore further.
Would you offer any advice for migrating large volume of personal folders from R2 into R3?
We're integrating with AD, so everytime listing users for selection taking ages and often times out.
Even if we managed to export the biar file for a group of users, exporting them into R3 fails quite often as well.
The whole process is simply very unpredictable and unreliable.
    Thanks.

  • Is it possible to open a pro tools project in logic?

Or vise versa?, What can or cannot be done to communticate between these two apps? In olden days, Apple bent over backwards to be compatible with windows apps. Have they done this with logic or are we on our own as far as working with the pro tools bunch? Are there third party applications which can at least partially address opening projects from one platform to the other? I am hoping to find out if anyone has found ways to make this work.

Sadly the only way to share project data other than simply importing consolidated audio is to share the project via OMF.
Apple have had serious issues with OMF, and the last word I heard from apple was that Logic's OMF import was 'mostly fixed'.
Unfortunately, in order to -export- OMF in Pro Tools is to purchase a ($1000) software add on.
