Importing problems using imovie6 & sony fx7

I am using imovie HD 6 & cannot import video from my Sony HDV (HDR-FX7). I can control the camera using imovie, I can watch the footage on my camera's screen, but when I hit "IMPORT" the camera just plays the footage & nothing appears on my computer screen. I have all the latest software updates. The camera is able to be found in firewire port in system profiler. I have plugged & unplugged & restarted everything multiple times. The camera is set on the VCR mode. But still imovie won't capture my footage!

thanks for the ideas. I have similar problem, but so far nothing has happened besides switching on the I.Link conv feature off my camera. That allowed the picutre to be played in the iMovie display. But not in the clip box, or in the iMovie panel. Clips download, but the image is blank. The clip boxes show the time of each clip, but it goes to 0.00.00 after the third clip is downloaded, or after we attempt to activate the clip for playing.
My next attempt will involve reinstalling iLife '06, since I had removed Garage Band. Other discussions suggested to open Garage band and play a few notes on it, and this would make iDVD work.

  • Video import problems from a Sony DSC-HX9V

    Hey There
I have a Sony DSC-HX9V which I've owned for several months now, a Intel based MBP and iMovie 11.
Something strange is cooking and I wonder if anyone could let me have some suggestions of how to solve the issue?
In the past both iPhoto and iMovie has had no problems at all recognizing the camera and downloading photos and video files. I've created projects, burnt DVDs all the normal stuff.
This afternoon though a problem has arisen. Although iPhoto is letting me download photos from the camera, iMovie I guess is not "seeing" the camera. I've done exactly what I think I usually do, but this time its not working. When you click on "Import from camera" the window opens up but only the iSight camera is being used. I've clicked the "camera" drop down but again only the iSight camera is an option.
I've made sure all of my software is updated, no problems there, turned the camera off, turned the MBP off and on numerous times, but still it won't see the camera.
I've spent the last few hours trolling through various posts, even tried shooting video in all of the different quality grades available on the camera, just to make sure, but still nothing.
This Sony camera is definitely compatible with iMovie 11, again I've check and as I mentioned before, I've used it several times in the past.
Any suggestions would be warmly received.
    David

I found this link helpful, I'm going to change the camera settings to 60i from 60p as on post mentions and will report the results http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1009&message=39416949&chang emode=1

  • Importation problem using Canopus-55 DV converter

I bought my mac with Panther and upgraded it recently to Tiger. Initially, I had no problem importing HI8 video from a 8 year old sony camera (following Tiger upgrade). I have created 9 DVD of family video without any problems with the little Canopus converter. I have just ugraded to iLife '06 and now importation (both sound and video) is very jerky. The status light from the converter flickers all the time back to red which was never happening before. I have 30 Gb left on my hard disk so I don't think it is the issue.
    Help/suggestion most welcome thank you.

I also forgot to say that this chronic audio/video hiccuping also happens just watching the video on the iMac without actually importing it...hence, most likely no a problem of slow HD...

  • Using the Sony CX550VE to import 1080p-Files the right channel it louder then the left channel. Using iMovie everything is fine. Do you know this problem?

FinalCutProx 10.03 (test version): Using the Sony CX550VE to import 1080p-Files the right channel is louder then the left channel. Using iMovie everything is fine, both channels are leveled correctly. Do you know this problem?

Thanks Tom, that did the trick. Appreciate your help and love your DVD and style. Cheers.

  • I purchased Lightroom 5, loaded it on my Mac, and updated to version 5.6. I then tried importing photos from my Sony DSC-RX100iii. Unfortunately it only imports JPEG files but no RAW files. What is the problem and how do I fix it?

I purchased Lightroom 5, loaded it on my Mac, and updated to version 5.6. I then tried importing photos from my Sony DSC-RX100iii. Unfortunately it only imports JPEG files but no RAW files. What is the problem and how do I fix it?

Than LR should have brought in the RAW files as well. ACR is the RAW
processing engine used by LR under the covers so anything not supported by
ACR would not be supported by Lightroom.
Are you shooting RAW plus JPEG? By default, Lightroom will stack then
unless you tell it not to. Check to see if there is a small badge on the
preview that looks like two sheets of paper with a number. That is how
Lightroom indicates a stack. You can unstack them by clicking on the badge.
There is also a menu item to stack/unstack photos. Otherwise, I would have
to research but not sure why Lightroom would ignore the RAW photos but
    still import the JPEGS.

  • I have 2012 iMac with 4 GB RAM. Every time I'm importing vedeo using MiniDV HDV Sony camera, FCP X is importing normally, with 2.5 GB of RAM free. Then, after 10 or 15 min of importing, FCP is frozen, and free RAM is close to zero. What happens?

I have 2012 iMac with 4 GB RAM. When I turn FCP X, I usually have 2.5 RAM free and the program works normally when I edit. The issue is importing video. I use a Sony HDV camera to import from miniDV tapes, and Apple says Sony HDVs are supported. Yet every time I'm importing, it works normally for 10-15 min, then the amount of free RAM quickly (yet gradually) is reduced to almost zero (I used Memory Clean to dicover it) and then FCP X got frozen and I need to force quit it and start all over again, to work for another 15 min. Horrible! What is it?

Are using 10.0.7 (the latest version)?
Memory problems seem to have been alleviated with 10.0.6 and 10.0.7.
Please post the screenshots of Activity Monitor, as Tom asked. This will at least let us see if it is FCP X itself gobbling a lot of RAM or if you are suffering from the problem of OS X not releasing "Inactive Memory" in a timely manner - an issue that has been there for a long time :-(
You didn't mention whether you have the 27" or 21.5" iMac. Unfortunately, in the 21.5" adding RAM is a big hassle. But if you have the 27", then seriously consider upping the RAM. It is quite inexpensive, from the likes of Crucial or other reputable third parties.

  • Hello - I used a Sony DVD to burn 350 songs. When I put the DVD into another computer to rip those 350 songs, the 'import songs' button never appeared in the lower right hand corner of iTunes. What's preventing songs from being ripped?

Hello - I used a Sony DVD to burn 350 songs from my iTunes library to share with a friend. When I put the DVD into my friend's computer to rip those 350 songs, the 'import songs' button never appeared in the lower right hand corner of iTunes. Anybody know what's preventing me from ripping what's on the DVD?

When I put the DVD into my friend's computer to rip those 350 songs, the 'import songs' button never appeared in the lower right hand corner of iTunes.
The import command only works with audio CDs. So if you burned the files in mp3 format, try instead using the "File > Add file to library" or "File > Add folder to library" commands.

  • I am having problems using mov files imported into a project. I get the message "Not rendered" in the Canvas and clip won't play. Can anyone help?

I am having problems using mov files imported into a project. I get the message "Not rendered" in the Canvas and clip won't play. Can anyone help?

When clips won't play without rendering in the Timeline, it usually means that the clip's specs don't match the Sequence settings.
A .mov file could be made from any number of codecs; the QuickTime Movie designation is merely a container for video files of all kinds.  Since FCE only works with the QuickTime DV codec and the Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) natively, if your mov files aren't one of those two, you need to convert them PRIOR to importing into your FCE project.

  • Import problems from SONY ACVHD

How do I import movieclips from the SONY TG3E (HD) camera into iMovie HD? I cannot drag and drop MTS-files to iMovie. Do I need to convert these files?

From other discussions here, I was under the impression that iMovie HD (v.5.0) was not compatible with Leopard (OS 10.5).
Besides that, all versions of iMovie up to, but not including 08, REQUIRE a miniDV cam for capture. HDD, DVD or memory sticks will NOT capture to iMovie HD. You need .dv format to work with iMovie.
Lennart's suggestion of using Voltaic to convert is your best hope, providing your iMovie version is compatible with your OS.

  • Problems importing HD recording from Sony HD-HCR3

Apologies but I am new to this!
I just bought the Sony HCR3 - when I try to import (via Firewire) HD movies, the picture is very jumpy, single clips are getting broken up and the audio is distorted (voice sounds an octave lower) even though the playback on the camcorder is fine. I don't have any problems when I record and import in DV format.
I have upgraded to iMovie 6, but have yet to upgrade from 10.3.9 (which means that some features of iMovie HD don't work). Is this the reason for my problem?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Well, I have a similiar problem with the Sony HDR-HC1E.
The imported movie ist too slow, so it sounds an octave lower. This problem occures on my powerbook g4 and on my powermac g5. There are no problems with imovie 5.
Nobody could tell me why this problem occures....
You should go bac to imovie 5. iDVD 6 has also some problems.
    Sincerely....

Problems using Sony ECM DS70P Microphone with Vado HD 3rd genXHello.
I have just purchased a Vado HD 3rd gen & was looking forward to using my Sony ECM DS70p Microphone, but after a couple of tests, the recording is extremely low & barley laudable.
The Microphone works fine on My Kodak Zi8.
Is there an internal setting I have to adjust, or is there a fault with the Vado
The Sony ECM DS70pMicrophone can be clearly seen in use here on a official Creative video.

If anybody can offer some help or advice please, I would be very grateful.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a low profile stereo mic, to use with the Vado 3rd Gen
    Thank you.
    Thank you.

This is happening to me too, I don't know if this is an Adobe Flash Player 11.5's bug or it's just my computer. All my browsers, chrome, IE9, Fox, doesn't even load anime videos. I tried reinstalling 11.5 many times, it have no effect but I use IE9 64-bit to run the videos that couldn't run. I waited 25 min for a JW player to load an episode of anime and I'm sick of it.

  • Problem using imported effects

Hi I have a small problem using imported effects on after effects cs4
Usually,  I can just import effects in quicktime format (such as from riot gear, or action essentials), and they have worked fine.
But recently, after I had to copy these effects to a new computer, the 'frame' of the effect stays there.
So for example, riot gear has an effect that in quick time appears as a white ink blot appearing on a black background.
But when I import it into aftereffects and place it on, say, a red background, the black square background stays there (with the white ink still flowing properly)
I've been working with after effects for several months, and think it might just be that its some copyright measure built in to prevent people from sharing the effects, but I'm probably overlooking something really stupid.
Any suggestions at all? Thank you in advance.

You use the word 'effects' throughout your post, but I'm pretty sure that what you're referring to aren't effects. See this page for information about what effects are.
Because you're referring to items in "QuickTime format", you must be referring to footage items, by which I mean movie files imported into After Effects.
If you're seeing white on a black background, but you expect to just see white without a black background, then either a) the movie has an alpha channel and you have After Effects set to ignore it or b) the movie is intended to be used as a track matte (specifically, a luma matte).
I strongly recommend that you work through the materials here so that you can learn the basics and the standard terminology:

  • Problem with importing movies from my Sony HDR-SR5

Having trouble importing movies from my Sony HDR-SR5. The computer is reading HD camcorder but Iphoto is coming up and not Imovie. I don't have any still pics and SD movies. When I go into imovie camcorder does not show up. Any suggestions?

Did your "Camcorder" ever worked with iMovie? If so, what version were your running?
What version of iMovie are you currently running: iMovie 8.0.5 or iMovie 8.0.6?
What version of the OS are you currently running: 10.6.2 or 10.6.3?

  • New Macbook video import problem.

    Hi all,
I have just gone and bought myself a new Macbook Pro and I am very pleased with it. From a video standpoint I plan to use it to import and edit HD video from my Canon HV20. The new Macbook only has a Firewire 800 port and so the cable that I would normally use to connect computer and camcorder will not work as it is 'mini' Firewire to Firewire 400. I am assuming that there is/will be a 'mini' to FW800 cable available, but in the interim I am using a Firewire hub that is connected to the Macbook by a 400-800 cable. And herein lies my problem ! Although iMovie8 detects my HV20, it will not display or play or import any footage from the tape ! It just remains on the blue import screen and although the camcorder is merrily 'playing', no footage is actually making it across to the computer. I think the issue is the Firewire hub part of the connection but I thought it best to garner an opinion from users of this forum. Help !!
    Many thanks in advance, kroguk
    PS
I will also post this on the Macbook forum, so apologies if you see this post twice

Well, I can't find my Belkin FW800-to-4-pin (9-pin-to-4-pin) cable right now ..I'm doing some "tidying up" ..which is always hopeless for finding things afterwards!.. but I DID buy the other day - in the German Mac specialists, erm, can't remember the name - a Sonnet Fast-something (..which I've just put down, and now can't find..) teeny 9-pin-to-6-pin adapter (..so small that I can't find it!..) and I've just tested that with a Sony HC1 HDV camcorder.
    Using the Sonnet adaptor..
..which is mentioned on their website at top-left here: http://www.sonnettech.com/product/adapters/index.html ..on a normal 6-pin-to-4-pin FireWire cable.. I just connected my camcorder and successfully imported HDV from the Sony.
I tested it twice with iMovie HD 6, in the most adverse conditions: 1; connecting to the 9-pin FW800 socket on a G4 17" laptop (..which is generally too slow to import HDV in real-time..) and 2; looped ("daisy-chained") through the 9-pin FW800 sockets (..one socket from the drive to my Mac, the other socket from the drive to the camcorder..) of an external iOmega FireWire drive connected to my Quad G5 Mac, also with iMovie HD 6. Both imports worked perfectly.
I'm also trying it as I write this - I just found the adapter again! - to import into iMovie '08 on the G5, daisy-chained through the external disc (..the G4 is too old or underpowered to run iMovie '08..) and that works as well ..though I did have to "kick" the program into starting a new Event; at first the camera transport ran, but no video imported, so I just Stopped and re-imported.
I bought this adaptor "on spec", as no previous device or adapter had worked properly for me (..converting between 4-pin on a camcorder and 9-pin on a Mac..) and this is the first to have worked, for me. But I have great faith in Sonnet, as they make the extra S-ATA driver card and other bits and bobs which I put in my floorstander G5, and that all "just works".
Ah; the shop where I bought it is ..hold on a moment.. the "m store" in Munich. (Karsten may know them: when Gravis moved from Lindwurmstrasse to Im Tal, the m store opened up right next door to where Gravis had been before) and they're at Lindwurmstrasse 5a, their phone number - they speak English, too - is 0049 89 24 22 35 24 and their website is ..aaaarggh; they don't seem to have one.
Anyway; the Sonnet SimplyFast FireWire 400-to-800 Adapter works perfectly - for me - on the end of a normal 4-pin-to-6-pin FireWire 400 cable, and importing works flawlessly every way I've tried it ..even daisy-chained through an external drive.
    I can heartily recommend it.
But - as always - "your mileage may vary" ..meaning that it might not work so smoothly for you.
