Importing PSD files create a black line to the right of some images

I am importing PSD files into Framemaker 11 and they keep giving me a vertical line on the right side of some images. I already know that other image file formats don't cause this, but I prefer the practicality of PSD files and not having to deal with duplicate files of the same image. I figured that native Adobe files that are supposed to be cross platform compatible should work without any issues. I get lines when converting to PDF documents and when I print them out also. I’m getting ready to publish our catalog and would like to prevent the printer from cleaning them up again.  Does anyone know how to fix it or if Adobe is currently addressing this issue ? Who can I contact to let them know about the issue, since it has been around from the time Frame started accepting PSD files?
Thanks,
Tomas

Hi ais007,
This is gonna sound really crazy, but this happened to me a couple of years ago. Below is the answer....hope it helps for you!
Found the answer to this in the framers digest mailout (framers Digest, Vol 71, Issue 9). Hopefully it wll help you too.
I am not sure about the Illustrator files, but for Photoshop, resize your images so that the last number is an even number. (example: change 3.25 to 3.24)
This worked for me! I couldn't believe it!
If you don't receive these emails, below is the link to subscribe...they are really helpful. I hope that is the correct link, it has been a while since I signed up.

  • Import error when importing .psd file created in Photoshop CS3

I have a file that was created in Photoshop CS3. I am trying to import this file into Catalyst CS5, but I keep getting an input error. I created a file in Photoshop CS5 and I was able to import this .psd file successfully into catalyst. So I guess my question is this; Does Catalyst support .psd files created in Photoshop CS5 only? If this is the case, how can I convert the CS3 .psd to a CS5 .psd

I am now building my files using photoshop CS5. A few challenges I have experienced while trying to import into Catalyst:
    - If I do a straight import into Catalyst, I loose all my colors in Catalyst. That is, catalyst imports all my vectors without any of the colors I had in Photoshop. My understanding is that Catalyst has libraries to support Photoshop files, so your import from Photoshop should not look any different in Catalyst.
Work Around: I have had to rasterize / merged all my image layers for the different components I have built in Photoshop CS5. Then when I start the import process I click the Advanced button on the catalyst import dialog. From the advanced dialog, I have to flatten (to bitmap) all the images I intend to import.
This process takes about two hours because I have a lot of components on the page.
Is there something  I'm not doing right here? I'm not seeing the value add to Catalyst, if it's taking me this long to just import .psd files

  • Laserjet 1018 Black lines on the right

Each time I print a page with an image a black line appears on the right of the page.
If I take out the image from the page it prints correctly.
This happens with any program (word, pdf, power point, etc)

If I set the preferences to 1200 resolution and rotate the page the problem desapears
On the web there are a lot of references about the same problem
I am using XP professional edition and my printer is Laserjet 1018
I have changed the toner cartridge and the problem remains
I have another 2 printers of the same model with the same problem
Can anyone help with a solution?

Has anyone found a solution to this?

  • 1099 2010  Forms Print with heavy black line down the right hand side

    Greetings,
When we print the 1099 2010 Mscellaneous Income form we have this heavy black line that goes down the right hand side of the margin.  We already applied all notes for 2010, including the latest one that had the margin correction published on 1/21/2011.
    Anyw

Ours print that way, too.  The black line is in the 1099MISC_2010.bmp image that SAP provided in the note.  The image is used as the background for the forms.

  • How do I eliminate text with black lines through the words

I am using Firefox 14.0.1 on Linux Ubuntu 11.04.
I am getting black lines through the text on some web sites. Mostly Google. How do I eliminate the lines.

A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this:
Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.
Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Update all your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.): [http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/ http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/].
Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. [http://www.malwarebytes.org/ http://www.malwarebytes.org/]. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections.

  • Imported .psd file has a different black

I have a indesign file with a 100 % black background, where I have Placed a .psd file. But when I print the document, the transparent areas of my .psd are printed as dark grey.
Does anyone know where I went wrong? It's quite frustrating, even without a deadline.

    OK.
First, let me say that your file prints fine here, just as it is, on my Fiery-driven Xerox Phaser 790, both directly from InDesign and from a PDF/X-1a export in Acrobat, so I think the problem is in your workflow someplace.
There are probably a combination of things happening, but the first thing I would do is change the background color to an RGB Black rather than the default 100% K black swatch. Keeping the background and the image in the same color space will help when it's time to do any conversion, and I think you may be donig multiple conversions before the toner hits the paper. Change the flattener space to RGB, too.
This is very similar to your use of [Registration], but will generate a CMYK rich black that is actually printable, in theory, on any equipment. You may still have some trouble with fusing the toner and flakeoff if the mix is too dense, so if that happens, reduce the density of the RGB black a bit, it should still be much darker than 100%K.
If that by itself doesn't fix the problem, the next step I would try would be to export a PDF. Try both the [High Quality Print] and [PDF/X-1a] presets to start. I picked those because the first one does no color conversion or flattening (and should yeild a file with an sRGB background) and the second will convert to your CMYK profile and flatten the transparency.
Let us know what results you get at that point, and we can take more steps if necessary, but I don't want to complicate things too much before we have to.
Oh, and before I forget, you need to add a bleed and extend that black background for trimming unless your print is capable of printing all the way to the edge on that size sheet (and I'd add it anyway, even if the printer is supposed to print borderless).

  • Error when importing psd files into Premiere Pro

I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and Photoshop CS4.  Whenever I attempt to import a psd file I get this error message:  "File format not supported".  I have tested it with different file sizes and properties.  My files are RGB and 8 bits/channel.  Is there any way to resolve this problem?  I am also using Adobe After Effects and importing psd files works great with it.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.
The RGB and 8-bit take care of two possible causes, so thanks for getting those out of the way early on.
Does the PSD file contain Layers? Are any of them mostly Transparent, with just a few pixels, such as a small logo? Those have created issues.
What is the exact version of CS4, that you are running? Seems that there WAS an issue with PSD's in an earlier version, and that a later update fixed that.
There is another element with PSD's, that has caused issues, but my feeble mind is suddenly blank on what that was about. Seems that Colin Brougham commented on it not that long ago. I'll see if I can drege up one of those threads, but you might aslo want to do a Search on "PrPro" and "PSD," though the forum Search might still be broken. Maybe Google, and also look for replies from Colin. I'll do the same too. IIRC, one had to Open the offending PSD in PS, and just do a Save_As with a short file name, and a short Path (not buried deeply inside a sub-folder structure), and all was good, but do not recall any other details at the moment. I would also eliminate any spaces in the new file name, just to eliminate any issue there - use the _ like in the old DOS days, though do not think that one had to adhere to the old 8.3 structure.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Aperture Displays PSD Files as All Black

    Hi,
I've followed the instructions to set up the preferences in Photoshop to maximize compatibility (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302624), but when I import the PSD files into Aperture, they aren't displayed properly - they are just shown as black. I took some screenshots here:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/41768092@N00/2763865123/in/set-72157606737164795/
    1. PSD files just shown as black
    2. But the Quick Preview displays the big picture correctly (but not the thumbnails)
    3. The Loupe also shows it almost correctly.
Does anyone know what might be causing these PSD files to not display properly?

The only PSD bug that I am aware of is one that I have been wrestling with Apple over since leopard was released. It may be effecting you here but maybe not. If you have a saved alpha channel (selection) of any kind it will screw up the display everywhere in leopard including Aperture. Check to see if this what maybe doing this to you. If it is hit the thread back and I will describe my workaround. If not ?

  • I received a psd file created in CS6 for MAC, I am unable to find the layers when I open it in photoshop in Windows. What can i do to edit the files?

I received a psd file created in CS6 for MAC, I am unable to find the layers when I open it in photoshop in Windows. What can i do to edit the files? What can be done so that I can either open and see the layers or how can the sender save it in a way that it doesn't "merge" the layers in some way to just one?

Could try saving as tiff provided layers and transparency are chosen at the time of saving. But it's hard to give a definitive answer as it depends on the final usage. For example PSD's tend to work better in applications like In Design in comparison with tiff.

  • Address Book -- Importing CSV File created by Numbers

I'm trying to import a csv file generated from MS outlook into address book. When I attempt to import the csv file that Outlook created, Address Book is able to recognize the file. However, I need to modify the file before importing. To do that, I opened in Numbers, deleted some columns and renamed some columns. Then, I exported from Numbers as a .CSV file. However, when I try to import the .CSV file created by numbers, I get the error that I have modified with Numbers, I get the error "Text file import failure".
Does anybody know why address book can't import a CSV file created by Numbers?

Many people have run into this problem, including myself. I had worked many hours on a spreadsheet in Numbers, exported to CSV, and received the error message when trying to import into Address Book. The answers to this dilemma are out there, but tidbits of the whole answer are spread around discussion boards. So I hope to consolidate those answers here.
The main problem for me -- and it's reasonable to assume that others receive the "Text File import error" for the same reason -- is that 1) I had commas in my spreadsheet, and 2) I had hidden RETURNs in the spreadsheet. Once I got rid of those two things, I had no problem importing into Address Book.
    Deleting Commas>
The problem with commas in your spreadsheet is that the CSV format uses commas to distinguish when a new cell is formed. So having other commas will inevitably confuse Address Book during the attempted import. I didn't have too many commas in my spreadsheet, so I was able to quickly remove them. Yet, if you have dozens or hundreds of cells with commas in them, you'll need an easier solution. I imagine opening Number's Inspector>Cell Inspector>Format will have the solution of removing commas from, say, currency amounts or something else. Yet, how many commas arise in contact information? Perhaps the easiest way is to use the same method of removing those hidden RETURNs. Read on...
    Deleting Hidden RETURNs>
You can't see them, and I couldn't find a "show invisibles" option in Numbers. So you need to search and find them. Yet, how do you search for something hidden? Do the Command-F thing to bring up the search field. The search bar should automatically be ready to search what you type. Hitting the Return key will do nothing for you, but hitting Shift-Option-Return will (you'll likely need to hit Return again to actually perform the search). Numbers will point out how many times these hidden returns are in your spreadsheet, which cells contain them, and give you the option to automatically replace them with something else (a space is a safe option). You can do the same search and replace with commas too.
Save your spreadsheet, export it as CSV, and -- as long as the only errors stemmed from commas and hidden RETURNs -- you shouldn't have a problem having Address Book import it. Good luck!
PS- After importing my spreadsheet, I noticed that some of my Smart Groups in Address Book were not showing some people who should have automatically been in there. The problem was that the Smart Group search had straight apostrophes in it, but the imported contact had curved apostrophes. The computer saw these as two unrelated characters. After some copying and pasting, the problem was solved.

  • Can I open psd files created in Photoshop CC with lower version? Actually CS5.

Can I open psd files created in Photoshop CC with lower version? Actually CS5.
My home and office have different version each.

Yes, PROVIDED that the file has not been saved with any layers containing any of the specific new features introduced starting with Photoshop CC and higher.
If the file has been flattened or if it was flat to begin with there will be no problems.

  • Imported PSD Files Are Being Erroneously Resized in Captivate 4

I am trying to import PSD files to use in my Captivate 4 project. I verified that the PSD image size is 800 x 600, and my Captivate project dimensions are the same 800 x 600. But when the import process completes, the layers are erroneously resized to smaller dimensions. I have tried the same thing on two separate installations of Captivate 4 on two separate PC's with the same results.
Here is a screenshot of the PSD file in Photoshop (image size = 800 x 600):
Now here is a screenshot of what the imported PSD file looks like in the Captivate project (screen size set to 800 x 600):
When I do the import, I'm selecting: File --> Import --> Photoshop File..., then I select the "As Layers" option, and do not check the box next to "Scale according to stage size" (I have tried using this option as well with the same results, although I don't believe I should have to rescale when the PSD image size and Captivate project size are the same.)
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for such a prompt reply...the single .psd file with many layers is imported using:
    Import Kind: Composition
Layer Options: Editable Layer Styles; Life Photoshop 3D (although there are no 3D layers in the .psd...so I'm unsure if this default is needed?)
Oh!!  Never mind...I just tried Import Kind: Composition -- Cropped Layers and the layers were not cropped...kind of counter-intuitive since I would have thought "Cropped Layers" would crop the layers rather than the other way around.
Thanks for your help...if you just reply to this post I'll mark your reply as the answer, thanks for suggesting the direction to look for a solution, cheers!

  • Layers of imported .psd files are cropped?

Hi, when importing .psd files the images on layers are cropped...?
In Photoshop an image on a layer is moved across the visible portion of the document as if it is animated, through the use of comp layers (each new comp layer the image is move a little bit).  However after importing the .psd into After Effects only a portion of the image is visible...it is impossible to recreate the animation roughed out with Photoshop comps because some of the image on the layer being moved is cropped.
I hope that makes sense...how can .psd files be imported into After Effects without cropping?  Thanks

  • Importing movie files created with SONY HDR-TG5

Having trouble importing movie files created with this camera. Have had success importing direct from the camera using streamclip, but struggling with old files imported from our PC. These files have these two extensions; .modd and .m2ts

    Eric:
Thank you. MPEG Slipstream worked great.
Do you know if there is software available that would let me see what is in/copy the files in the Sony folder so that I might be able to copy the disk directly instead of having to copy the files off of it with Handbrake? Would having the QT add-on for the MPEG-2 playback component be helpful?
    Thanks again

  • Importing psd files into AN

I have been using Edge Preview since the beginning. last time I used the app was 4 months ago. Now I see the newer version 1.0 is out. I got quite used to the older previews but it's been 4 months so I need a refresher course. While I do that and re familiarize myself please correct me if I'm wrong but I could have sworn that the older Edge previews allowed you to import .psd files.
    Am I right?
    R

So is it possible to import .psd files now or not? I have not found the way.
You can export to Edge Fireworks files with an add-on - see here: http://johndunning.com/fireworks/about/EdgeAnimate
It would be great to have the same capability with psd files.
