Importing Quicktime with Flash codec

I wanted to put a Flash cartoon I made into my iMovie, so I published into Quicktime. It worked fine when I opened it in Quicktime but when I try to import it into iMovie the import progress bar flashes briefly then dissapears then after that nothing changes in my movie or in my clips bar. It seems to think changes have been made as it asks me to save before I quit.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Sorry - I should have explained more of the details. I have video tapes from several sources - my own, friends, relatives etc. in both VHS and 8mm analog. It was a BIG job to capture all the different sources and chronologically align all the various clips I wanted from all the various sources. This is my first FCE use, and I'm sure I probably did a dumb thing here. I have a single sequence that is about 3.5 hours long. It's probably too long, but I certainly know I don't need the all the duplicate footage that I haven't used so I'd like to get rid of it and use the over 100GB disk space for further captures. So I intended to export my 3.5 hour sequence with markers and after a successful re-import then delete all the original footage. When I select export from the menu, it specifically says I can save ALL markers with the QT movie. Then when I later do the import I get NO markers at all. Now I don't know what to do! So here are a couple questions (if you don't mind).
1. What is the approx max movie time I can get on a single layer dvd using iDVD - I'd like to know how best to split up my 3.5 hour sequence.
2. If I select some of my 3.5 hour video and paste it into a new FCE project then none of the markers are pasted and it looks like I have to make them all over again. How can I copy the markers along with the movie?
3. On a related issue, if I select a portion of the movie in the timeline and delete a slice via in/out points, the movie gap automatically closes BUT the markers do not. The markers do not seem to be coupled to the movie at all and that simply makes no sense to me.
Sorry for being so inexperienced here, but I would truly appreciate any assistance.
Mick.

    Svanur,
I agree with Harm. The specs. do not match up correctly. Where did those AVI files come from?
I assume that you are working in PAL-land (and not NTSC-land). Is that correct?
What platform are you working on, Mac, or PC?

  • [CS4] importing video with xdv8 codec...

Okay, I am on a windows version of premiere pro CS4. I am not very experienced with the software, so this could be amazingly obvious/simple, or it may truly be as hard as I am finding it to be. I need to import a video file, currently a .mov. I believe but am not certain that it was made on an Apple with Final Cut Pro. Premiere gives me a missing codec error.
When I try to play the file in most of my video players, including QuickTime, I get a missing or unsupported codec error (the sound generally plays fine, though - just the video is missing). One of my players actually named the codec, I believe... saying there was an error with xdv8 codec. So I did some googling, and found that mplayer has that codec.
So I download and install the latest mplayer for windows (SMPlayer to be precise), and it plays the video fine. However I still cannot import this video into Premiere. And the SMPlayer doesn't offer an export, save as, etc. function.
I found all of the codec .dll files that the SMPlayer uses, but have no idea how (if it is possible) to get Premiere to recognize them... and I am not sure which it is, as none of them have xdv8 in the title.
Is there a way to import a codec into premiere if it is not part of a codec installer package?
Does anyone know where I can get a codec installer package for Premiere that includes the xdv8 codec?
Is there any other way to work around this issue?
    Thanks!!!

One of my players (VLC Player, from Video Lan) gave an error stating that the xdv8 codec was missing or not supported. A ton of googling later found that the MPlayer does support the codec - and when I installed said MPlayer (the SMPLayer GUI for windows), I can play the video.
My issue is that the video comes from an indirect source; my client (I am a web designer, this client has a lot of streaming video on the site) has the videos created by a "professional" local studio... who is (in my opinion) anything but pro. I have no direct contact with them, and when I ask for anything to be done, such as getting the video in a different format, it can take weeks or longer before I get a response. So since I have Premiere, I started doing my own editing of the videos to get them web ready. The videos are being shot for TV (they get broadcast on the Fox Business Network)... so I have no idea if this codec is best (or even good) for that medium, but I need to convert it into 3 various sized flv files for web streaming.
UPDATE: I now see that the codec is ffmpeg2, and the 'format' is xdv8. I have no idea what that means!

  • Quicktime with Flash

I really want to use Quicktime's new H.264 codec, but I also want to stream the video using a flash player. Is this possible? Thanks for any and all input.
    Brad

Using export Quicktime Video export in Flash will use a Quicktime codec.
If you use Eport to Quicktime. You must change your publish settings to Flash 5. Then you can use export to Quicktime with no errors. This on will place a flash in side a Quicktime container. This movie file will be (alot) smaller than the above file format.
I email mailed both to myself with no problems.
I think it is your client is the one having the problem in opening your Quicktime Movie.
Try this. Zip the Quicktime movie. If you have a server. Place the zipped file on the server. Give you client the URL to the zipped file. This will force a down load of the zipped/movie file to you clients desktop. Or were ever he/she want to places it. It could something in your email program/isp or his/her's causing your problem.

  • Import QuickTime with Alpha channel into Flash CS3

Is it possible to import a QuickTime movie with alpha channel into an FLA and have the FLA recognize the Alpha channel? When I've done this, it just shows opaque black instead of an alpha channel. I need that black to be transparent so I can see the layers below the video layer.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't know the answer to your question.
Do you have a video player where you can verify that the alpha channel in the video is displaying as you expect?.... that is, the background is transparent?
I have used flv files with alpha and a NetStream vid player to overlay Flash video on a Web page.... but not directly in the timeline.:
    http://www.mrfilmbiz.com/
the walkon... could have had other action (like Flash artwork) going on in the background... but that may not really be what you are looking for.
But lacking any other solutions, you could have your alpha channel vid file playing in one Flash file over the top of a second Flash file doing the artwork stuff.

  • Old quicktime with flash layer + adobe media encoder

    Hi,
I have some quicktime .mov files.
These play fine in the older quicktime 6
They do not play in the newer quicktime 7
I posted about this issue at a Quicktime forum and discovered it is an issue with the flash layer in the newer quicktime.
These files do not display in Adobe Media Encoder.
My question is how is Adobe Media encoder affected by the Quicktime codecs?
Would removing Quicktime 7 from my machine and installing an older version effect AME?
Would it then be able to se the files and encode them to f4v?
If not are there any other solutions?
Rather desperate, I am doing a site for an animator and all the content I have been provided with is like this.
I could send a sample file if needed
    Thanks

    Anders,
I have to make sure we are talking about the same thing. In the Effects Control Panel, you twirled open the Opacity intrinsic effect and clicked on the stopwatch to create a keyframe, correct?
I ask this because you can also adjust the Opacity by using the clip's opacity "rubber band" in the timeline, but no keyframes get added there unless you use the Pen tool or a modifier key in combination with the selection tool.
For the workaround to fix the issue, a keyframe has to be created.

  • Import Quicktime with Quality

I have a Quicktime movie with the following setting that can be adjusted to solve my problem:
    Format: MPEG4-Video, 800x600, Millions
    FPS: 8.19
    Data Size: 28.71
    Data Rate: 3087.36
I've imported this movie into the Clips area of a MPEG4 iMovie, and also a DV iMovie from the option at the begining of creating a new project. Both seem to import the quicktime movie in such a way as to loose the quality, the DV option not as bad as the MPEG4, but still not as good as the original.
How do I get the quality to stay? Is it the dimentions of the original? Or something else I can change to keep the quality?
    Thank you in advance.
    iMac (20" Intel)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

These are two different applications and the same format and codec will not be suitable for both.
For VCD the most common format is MPEG-1. MPEG-2 is not suitable for VCD playback. MPEG-4 might work.
Web delivery is dependent on who you expect to view the material. I would use H.264, but it requires the user have QT7. MPEG-2 is not suitable for web delivery. It's designed for full fame size and frame rate. You need to compress the data to a smaller format for that. 320x240 at 115 or 12fps is probably still the most common fromat. H.264 allows browser scaling and scales very well so you can have a small file size which displays at a larger format very well. It also compresses very well a full frame rate and sizes like 480, but it does require a fast computer and a wide pipe for download.

  • Importing QuickTime with all markers preserved

I'm an FCE newbie (never used iMovie) who is starting to work on converting 16 years of 8mm analog and digital tapes to dvd - starting with the early analog stuff. I have mega hours, or rather hundreds of giga-bytes, of unwanted video (baby's first drool etc.). I have gone through about the first 10 hours of video and knocked it down to 2 hours. I noticed I can export my big sequence as a QuickTime and have it save all my markers while I'm at it. The problem is that when I start up a fresh FCE and import that QuickTime movie it just comes in as one lump and none of the markers I originally had are present. It's my intention to delete the original footage and just use the exported QuickTime - but the loss of markers is killing that idea. And I still have plenty of editable meat in that QuickTime too. I went to the File->Import to read in the QT file but still no markers! Can anybody help me out with what I'm doing wrong?

  • Problems rendering HD clips with MP2, and Quicktime with DVC50 compression.

I am using After Effects CS3 on Mac 10.5.8
Ok, so we got this fancy new Grass Vally clip player that takes a very small number of formats. I am trying to render HD clips that are between 10 and 14 seconds long with audio embedded.
One of the formats suggested is MP2.  When I try rendering an MP2 file the file extension comes out as .m2v
Also, the audio file is rendered as a separate .wav file.  The video looks fine and is of a very small file size, but I can't play it back with Quicktime Pro. I'm not sure if the clip player will play an m2v file but I know that the audio has to be embedded in the same clip. I've looked through all of the audio settings and I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.
One of the other formats it will take is Quicktime with DVCPRO50 codec.  I was able to render out some HD (1920 x 1080) files but the resolution looks like it is only about half what it should be. I've been through all of the settings that I can think of and can't see what is causing it.
I am pretty much at the end of my rope. I even called Grass Valley support and told them my problems. I just assumed that most of their customers would be creating animations with After Effects. The tech support guy wasn't even familiar with After Effects so I come to you guys for support.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Thanks, I will try the MPEG Streamclip.
I don't mean to imply that the tech support guy hadn't heard of After Effects but he had no real experience with it. I'm certain that this isn't the first time an After Effects user has called Grass Valley with this issue. I think their standard issue answer is "It's not our problem, call Adobe."  I've worked at four different television stations and at each one we have used AE to render movies to our clip player. I have no doubt that it's the industry standard for this kind of work so it kind of baffles me that Grass Valley has no idea how to make it work with their product.
When the Grass Valley installer came the first question I asked him was "What kind of file formats does it take?" He said he didn't know and to just start trying different things to see if they work. I pretty much told him that I didn't have time for trial and error and that it should be on page one of the manual. We eventually found the spec sheet buried somewhere in the appendix. When I called GV tech support he just rerferred me back to that sheet. Basically he's getting paid to read the manual to me but doesn't have any idea about how it actually applies to their product.

  • How do I import quicktime MOV. into CS4 Flash

Basically I edited a video in Premiere CS4 and exported it as a MOV file. Since you can't export it as a SWF file in Premiere I decided to take it into Flash however I am unable to import it into Flash.
The goal is to export it to a swf file so I can embed the movie into a PDF presentation I am putting together.
    Can anyone help with this!

I just converted a wmv file into swf by first opening it in Quicktime (first I had to buy Quicktime Pro to export it to mov and Flip4mac to get it open in the first place, so you're ahead of the game). Then I went into the Adobe Media Encoder that comes with CS4 and converted it into a flv file from there. Then I went into flash and used 'import video', and saved it as a swf file, posted both into my website folder, and saved the skin that it generated into the main website folder where the html file is, it wouldn't show the buttons until I moved it.
    Hope that helps.

  • Importing issues with Final Cut Pro X. Green flash and twitches while play back

Hello, I'm having some importing issues with Final Cut Pro X and I can't find any solution whatsoever. Perhaps my importing settings are wrong?
Anyways, I've done a lot of recordings on eye TV and HD PVR with some videos that are about 3 hours long. I exported them into H.264 files, which turns them into mpeg-4 files with AAC audio. Then I import them into final cut pro X and I notice it takes a long time for them to render the videos and I notice that there are some green screens and twitches while I play through the video.
Here is a screenshot of the green screen that I'm talking about:

Could it be my 2 video graphics card that is causing this kind of issues? Or is there any solution to fix this?
In the past, I've used iMovie 09 and it worked out perfectly. However, the new iMovie 11 is terrible because it automatically optimzie my 3 hour long videos into making the importing process to (144 hours long to import). Is there any way to get iMovie 09 back or am I stuck on dealing with this Final Cut Pro X issues?

  • Problem with imported .AI into Flash (performance issue/frame lag)

Hi Flash people i have a problem:
    Background:
i am creating a flash file (old school frame animation with a little AS2) to be used on big screens (in a child libray)
    i am importing diffeent files (some PNG some SWF images and Some .AI out of Illustrator) hee is the problem;
The file is BIG 1920+1200px (non scallable) all works fine until the movie hits the imported .Ai file(s) which are
browser views remade in full vecto in illustrator in 1200x800px - i have a simple image transition fom a PNG image
to the browser view (this view is pretty similar to a facebook frontpage in terms of content and text/image distribution.
the transition is 20-25 frames (in 31fps) and works fine with PNG but whrn the .AI frame is loaded the movie solws down
by factor 10 and it takes several seconds (5-8sec.) to play through the 1sec transition.
I have tried to export the same AI page as SWF out of illustrator and the esult is basically the same = exteme frame lag.x
how do i get about this?
i know the 1920x1200px is HUGE for a fullscreen transition/fade, but then again... it should work right?
any ideas? - any other vector formats does a better job (and yes it HAS to be vector as i am also doing some looking class effects)

  • Quicktime conflict with Flash

Looks like something happened with the MIME sittings or something, because Quicktime is trying to play videos that Flash should be playing. I'm greeted with the Quicktime logo with a question mark superimposed, which gives me the impression Quicktime is trying to play Flash videos. This is apparent just about everywhere from ads to well...Flash videos! I tried disassociating Quicktime from Flash videos and just about any other video format but Quicktime continues to try and read Flash videos (and fails all the time I might add). I have uninstalled Quicktime and tried to see the videos but now there would be blank spots where the videos should play! I tried to reinstall Flash Player but it won't do anything different, Quicktime continues to butt in (if Quicktime is uninstalled and Flash still installed, blank spots still show and it won't play anything).
How can I fix the settings so that Flash plays Flash videos again? It might not be the right place to ask, however, Quicktime seems to be the problem here, so I think it'd be good to start asking questions here.

  • Sync and frame rate problems importing video to Flash CS3

Just like the subject states, I am indeed having frame rate problems importing video to Flash CS3.
When I export a video from Premiere with the settings:
    1280x720
    frame rate of 23.976
using H264 or Animation (basically every codec produces the same results),
"embed video on SWF and play in timeline"
When I do this the file exports fine. Playing it in Quicktime works fine and the audio syncs up no problem. But when I import it into Flash using the same settings, for some reason the movie clip is now too fast in that the video does not match the audio and seems to be at more like 12 fps now (just a guestimate). The action of the video is over long before the audio even comes in.I have verified that the frame rate is correct in Flash so it's not that.
I've done this literally hundreds of times in the past and suddenly it does not work and I can not figure out why. I'm not even really using video, but actually artwork that I am putting together as an animatic for an animated piece so the video could not have been imported incorrectly or digitized wrong either. Can someone out there please tell me how to make this work? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
    -Mike

Thanks for you quick response however it really doesn't apply to what I am doing in any way. I will not be uploading the video to a server. I am using the imbed function so I can use it as a layer and then animate over it. It is just reference and will ultimately be deleted. The Fla file does indeed carry the same specs as I stated in my first post. I have done it this way dozens of times and I am trying to figure out why it suddenly will not work.
