Importing RAW  (CR2) images to iPhoto (7.1.1)

I'm having problems importing RAW (CR2) images to iPhoto (7.1.1) from my Canon Powershot G9. It imports the JPEGs with no problem, but says the following for RAW (CR2): "The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data".

Yellowfish
That would be because the G9 RAWs are not supported at this time.

  • Weird Problem when importing Raw .CR2 Image sequences.

I am trying to import some CR2's image sequences into my AE CS5.5.
    System specs:
    OSX 10.7.4
    Mid 2010 Mac Pro
    2 x 2.66ghz 6-Core Intel Xeon
    ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB
    6gb Ram.
The images are 5616x3744. I also brought in a couple image sequences at 2784x1856, these were brought in fine. But the bigger (let's call them 5k files, even though they aren't technically 5k) images are almost being auto scaled down. See screenshot below.
This is what they look like when previewing from source clip, its as if they have been scaled down by 1/4. The info on the clip still reports that they are the full 5k resolution. Why could this be happening?

Could be an embedded preview JPEG/ TIFF instead of the actual RAW data. Verify the files in Photoshop or another program and suppress the preview image on import.

  • How do I import RAW (CR2) images from Canon S100 into Photoshop Elements 8?

From Adobe support I downloaded Camera_Raw_6_1.zip.  Extracted files, cut original Camera Raw.8bi file and pasted in a new folder.  Then copied the new version of Camera Raw.8bi into the empty file format location.  Still get "Cannot open ...CR2 because it is the wrong type of file."
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi,
The Canon S100 wasn't supported until version 6.6 of camera raw and that isn't supported by pse 8.
You options are to either upgrade to pse version 10 or use the DNG converter
    for windows http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5310
    or
    for mac http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5309

  • How do I import raw CR2 files from camera into LR5? I get an error message

I'm trying to import raw CR2 files from my camera into LR5. I get a message "Files appear to be unsupported or damaged." I know they are not damaged. Does LR5 support raw files? I can do this in Bridge and it converts them to dng files. This would be ideal for me if both could be done in LR5.

Not sure what the problem is if you say the files re recognized in Bridge? You could test the CR2 files by downloading the free Adobe DNG converter - latest version 8.6 (keep your CR2 originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)and then import the DNG’s. It’s an extra step but I use it all the time to batch process into final folders.
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.6
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.6
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

The way I see it (correct me if I'm wrong) but Raw is supposed to be where you have total editing control of the shot (as opposed to the camera). I believe the next step is to do the editing (i.e. color balance, exposure, etc) then make a regular image from that to use in whatever output you desire (print, web, etc.) Think of raw as the negative. Just being in raw doesn't in it self make it better.
Edit. This is from premiere help files....
Supported still‑image and sequence file formats
Adobe Premiere Pro supports 8-bit per-channel (4 bytes per pixel) and 16-bit per-channel (8 bytes per pixel) still-image files. It converts images with lower bit-depths to 8-bits per channel and images with higher bit-depths to 16-bits per channel on import. High bit-depth files are supported at one single-precision float per channel (16-bytes per pixel).

  • Raw CR2 Images Deleted when loading into Bridge.

I was loading raw cr2 images from a compact card reader into Bridge.  About half way through, the program stopped, I received an error message and then when I attempted to exit all the files were deleted from the card.  Only the photos that had been loaded prior to the error message survived.  The camera also has a SD slot and when I then attempted to load the jpeg photos saved to the SD card, the program  froze while accessing and displaying the thumbnail images and would not load any content from the SD card.  Any answers as to why Bridge failed and the photos were deleted.  This is not the first time this has occured.

Thanks very much for that lead, NormanPCN. I do have Auto Tone checked, though the rendered files in the example above do not have XMP sidecars. I will try unchecking Auto Tone even so, and post back when I see what happens.
    Thanks again,
    Kieren
EDIT: Bingo! I took Auto Tone off in ACR Preferences (in Bridge) and the non-RAW files immediately regenerated thumbs and previews. They now are indistinguishable from the PSD. There is still the very slight difference which I mentioned between the PSD and the CR2. While that seems odd, it is small enough to be relatively trivial.
    Many thanks!

  • New to Lightroom, problem importing raw CR2 files.

I am new to Lightroom and am having trouble importing my CR2 raw photo files. In the "import" section I select my SD card that contains the raw image files. All .jpeg files on the card show up as thumbnails but the CR2 files show "preview not available for this file." I select one of the CR2 thumbnails anyway, select a destination folder on my external hard drive and click "import." A window pops up that says, "this file is not recognized by the raw support format in Lightroom." I'm using Lightroom 4.4 and am working with a Windows Vista operating system (on an old, junky laptop). My camera is a Canon 70D and am shooting in RAW+JPEG. I also downloaded the Adobe .DNG converter 6.3 to try to convert the files before importing them into Lightroom and it is also not recognizing and importing my CR2 files. Not sure what to do at this point. Any suggestions?

I would recommend downloading DNG Converter 8.2 which is compatible with Vista.
The latest version 8.6 requires W7 or W8

  • Canon 5D Mark II cannot import RAW .CR2 Files

For some reason I can no longer import my .CR2 files from my Canon 5D MarkII.  This is a new problem as I have had Aperture for some time now.  Is there a way to go back to an earlier RAW processor?  This latest one from May may be causing the issue...  Any guidance?

    DavidMarlow wrote:
Sorry, in Aperture it just comes up with a list of files that it could not import.
No error message or any information at all?
When I try to get them into iPhoto it says that they are an unsupported file.
I thought they were in iPhoto already.
I am trying to get the files from my laptop on iphoto to my imac on Aperture.  I am doing this via the network.  On once side I tried a direct iphoto import (did not work) and then tried to do it pointing at the actual CR2 files and that did not work.
You should just copy the iPhoto library over to the iMac and then run Aperture and import the iPhoto library. Doing this over the network is just making your life harder. Or else install Aperture on the laptop do the import there and copy the Aperture library over.

  • Importing RAW/orf files to iPhoto 6.0.4

I have a new Olympus SP500 UZ 6.0 megapixel digital camera - it is not on the list of "supported digital cameras".
However, I can download the pictures in RAW format using the software that came with the camera.
I can't figure out how to import them into iPhoto 6.0.4 once they are on my computer.
Is it possible or do I have to wait until this camera is "supported"?
I can't seem to import them into Photoshop or PowerPoint as well.
Am I screwed with trying to use this camera and my Powerbook?

If your camera is not supported, move the files to your desktop using Finder (if the memory card can be mounted). Then simply drag the RAW photos to the iPhoto photo pane, and release. It should import them. If you go into your preferences in iPhoto, and select the "Advanced" tab, you can specify that the RAW photos are saved as TIFFs within iPhoto, and also specify an external editor for RAW photos, such as Photoshop.

  • IPhoto 6.06 Will Not Import RAW CR2 files Taken Through an Uncoupled Lens

If I use adapters to couple my Canon 20D to a telescope (which is an electronically uncoupled lens and has no lens-related exif data), iPhoto freezes and will not import a RAW Canon CR2 file taken through any telescope. It imports such jpegs just fine, and Preview can open either. iPhoto, however, must be forced to quit under the Apple menu.
It doesn't matter where the RAW file is...in the camera, on the desktop, in a card reader, or on a CD.
This is an obvious bug in iPhoto.

Do you have access to an Apple store, or a friend
with Aperture? It would be interesting to see if
    Aperture has the same problem.
Not that it really matters, but a bug in both
iPhoto and Aperture is more likely to be fixed!
I don't know anybody who uses Aperture, and my nearest Apple Store is 120 miles away in Cincinnati.
I'm able to work around the problem since Canon's Digital Photo Professional, working with Canon's EOS Utilty, imports and processes these images just fine, as does Photoshop CS.
However, I miss the premise that iPhoto should be the central organizer and storage vessel for all of one's digital photos, making naming, finding, and backing them up a snap, even though a different program may be used for processsing them.
As an aside, Canon's download site warns that EOS Utility 1.1.1 will not work on Intel Macs; it does...with full functionality.
    Thanks for your response.

  • Importing RAW format files into iPhoto 08

    Hi Guys,
I searched the back catologue and couldn't find any refs so hopefully this is a valid new post.
I use iPhoto 08 on an iMac and have always worked with importing jpegs from my cheap but faithful old camera. I now have a nice sexy (& expensive) new camera & can take pictures in RAW format for increased quality. IPhotos tutorials say that it supports RAW but everytime I try to import some files I get a "could not import file" message against the RAW files. My camera automatically takes a duplicate jpeg each time I make a RAW exposure and they import without any problems. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Many thanks. Steve

    Steve
    What camera is it?
The Raw from every camera model is different - note that's camera Model, not brand - and has to be supported separately. So, the Raw from a Nikon D3 is not the same as the Raw from a Nikon D3s and so on - even though they both produce files with a NEF extension. Same with Canon and it's CR2 files and so on.
Raw support can also depend the OS and version of iPhoto that you have.

  • Can't import raw photo files to iPhoto from my new Canon S90

Just bought a new Canon point & shoot, the S90. It allows you to shoot raw, which I did. When I went to upload the image files to iPhoto, I got an error message -- files could not be imported; they may be an unrecognized file type.
I've uploaded raw files from my Canon 40D SLR to iPhoto successfully.
Why the error message with raw files from a new point/shoot?
    Greg

RAW support is specific to each camera and until Canon gives Apple the specs and Apple sees enough demand to move that new RAW above the others
See this Aperture thread for a long discussion including several hopeful long term solutions to teh entire issue of each RW being different - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2267766&tstart=0
    LN
PS - it took about 10 seconds to fond a google thread indicating that Apple does not yet support the S90

  • Importing Raw CR2

I can not import CR2 raw files into iphoto 09 taken with my Canon D50. Have I missed a setting?

Yes. I am dragging the folder into the window. It has never worked.
I have even tried to use the 'import to Library' located under File menu.
This is an example of one of my file names IMG_3059.CR2 The error message is "The following file(s) could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format.)"
I have to open them all in something like Photoshop them save them as a JPeg if I want to be able to use iPhoto.

  • Lightroom 1.2 not importing RAW (CR2) files from 40D

Just upgraded to LR 1.2 and thought it would solve my problems but find that it doesnt appear to import CR2 files, either directly from a card reader or from a file already saved to the computer. It says files use an unsupported color mode. These were shot in RAW (not sRAW) + JPG and others were just RAW.
Do I need to change any setting in Lightroom to make it work with the new RAW settings?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ooops... Me bad. It works fine. For some reason 1.2 didnt install the first time I ran the installer. After finding that it was still 1.1, I ran the installer again and it took. Now its importing 40D files just fine.
    Sorry for the false alarm.

  • I can't open RAW (cr2) images from my Canon EOS 650D

    Hey,
I use Photoshop CS5 Extended (Version 12.1 x64). I can open the raw-Images (cr2) from my Canon EOS 1000d/Rebel XT but I can not open the RAW-Images (cr2) from my Canon EOS 650D (Rebel T4i). I have installed the latest update for CS5 through the updaate command.
    How can I open them?
    Thank you!

    Hi there,
Support for RAW from Rebel T4i was launched in ACR 7.2 (Adobe Camera Raw). However, ACR 7.x is compatible only from CS6, not on CS5.
Sorry, but you can work with the installation disc you've got from Canon to convert the files into TIFF/ JPG or get the 7.2 DNG converter from here:
    Win - http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5486
    Mac - http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5485
Why don't you consider upgrading to CS6? There are some great upgrade prices in store right now.
