Importing raw into elements 8

I have owned elements 8 for about 12 months and only recently purchased by first dslr - a Nikon D3100.    During a recent holiday I shot in jpeg+raw.  Now I can't import my raw files into elements 8 only the jpeg.  My elements has the 5.5.0.97 raw plug in, apparently my camera needs 6.3 but elements 8 only supports up to 6.2.  Do I need to upgrade to 9 or is there another option?

You can buy Elements 9, now, or it seems that Elements is usually released in Aug-Sept timeframe so you might wait a few weeks and buy Elements 10.
If you want to wait for PSE 10, then in the mean time you can convert your NEF files to DNGs and then the older version of ACR with Elements 8 will open them.  It is probably a good idea to update PSE 8 to the latest ACR that it supports, also using the Updates page and then finding the Elements-specific instructions for ACR 6.2.
To convert to DNGs you should use the latest version of the DNG Converter, which you can download via the dropdown list at the top of the Adobe Updates page:

When importing Raw into A3, in what format is the picture displayed on the screen? Jpeg or Tiff ?

None of the comments you have gotten are particularly useful.  The display is independent of format of the file.  It's rendering is of the full pixels in the image file that you have imported, modified by any adjustments you have made, or not if you ask to see the Master.
Even if your Master was imported as a JPEG, as seen on the screen it would have been decompressed, and you would see all the pixels (that the screen is capable of).  However, a JPEG may have lost some detail in the compression, but when decompressed has the same number of pixels as the equivalent uncompressed photo format -- but some of them may result from interpolation, and not be the original.

  • Import iphoto into elements 11 organizer

i,m about to import photos from iphoto into elements 11 organizer. there is an option to have organizer convert events from iphoto into albums, is there an advantage to doing this, if i don't choose that option will it make adifference.

Albums in Elements are ways to give a name to a group of pictures and saving the order in which the pictures are stored. It's easy to find a given group by its name (like a keyword) while keeping their sort order. I don't know anything about iphoto, but I think it would be a pity to lose such useful information.
The main differences between albums and keywords is that keywords (tags) can be saved in the file themselves whereas the albums are only saved in the database (catalog). The second difference is that albums enable sorting the pictures.

  • Importing raw into photos for mac

trying to get to grips with photos now aperture scrapped

<<There doesn't seem to be any facility for this>>
This is basically correct.  You can import RAW files to photos, but the standard RAW filter will be applied and you can only edit the image with the included, simple-minded Photos editor.  You can chose in the editor whether to use the JPG or RAW file as the master, but it's unclear which file is exported or shared when you try to send it somewhere else.  Sometimes it works but other times the exported image looks like the original unedited JPG.  I've sort of abandoned shooting in RAW for the moment unless I'm in a situation where I know I will need to do RAW editing in Photoshop.  At minimum there seems to point in importing the RAW file into Photos as it just makes the library bigger without any appreciable benefit, so if I do shoot in JPG/RAW, I just import the JPG files to Photos and edit the RAW files with Photoshop from the Finder folders.
You can make suggestions to Apple for product enhancements at the Photos for Mac suspport site.  We'll see if Apple listens to the users or continues to try to support only the lowest common denominator casual photographers.

  • Importing RAW into iPhoto

I'm having the strangest experience with iPhoto - 2 part problem.
    1. I have a Canon 300D camera that I have set to take RAW photos. When I import into iPhoto, some are showing a Jpeg extension and some a raw extension (crw...). Is it possible that iPhoto is converting some of the raw into jpegs? I have not changed the camera specs so this is very odd to me.
    2. Is there any way to change a raw format to jpeg in iPhoto or even Aperture (will post on that thread too)?
Thanks in advance for any insight or tips.

    Hi Terence,
I'm not sure what Raw + Jpeg means. As of 6 months ago, I shoot exclusively in Raw format - the extension of which I thought was represented by crw instead of jpeg. If you know differently please correct me. When I download the pictures some will show up with a jpeg extension and others with a crw extension - which if what you are saying is correct, then iPhoto is missing converting some of these photos. I assumed that the crw meant it was still in RAW format because I have been unable to upload those particular file extensions to 3rd party online albums. I will definitely take a look at the Help Topic you suggested.
    Thanks!

  • Importing photos into Elements

My saved photos on my pc are not visible when I attempt to import into Elements.  Why?

So right after posting the question, I decided to try to first import into the file system and then import from the file system, and that worked. But its a pain because it changes my workflow.
A possible workaround: You could use Windows Live Photo Gallery to download into your folders; the WLPG downloader is pretty good (WLPG is the version you download from Microsoft, not the one built in to Vista).  Then you could use the Organizer's File > Watch Folder feature to automatically import new photos that get added to your folders by the downloader.
Do you use lightroom? Do you recommend it?
I don't use Lightroom, but it has a very good reputation.  I know some other posters here use it.

  • Help with importing files into elements catalog?

I recently downloaded HD home video's to my computer and when I open Pre elements 9.0 it gives me the message saying new files have been downloaded since last launch of elements organizer. Elements will now import these files into a catalog. it starts and listed the mov file but is stuck and will not respond.
    Any idea's?

What is the format of these HD home video's that you are trying to import into Elements Organizer 9?
Try importing one of them into a Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 new project and determining if a copy of the video gets automatically placed in Elements Organizer 9.
    More later.

  • Importing Folders Into Elements 9

I am trying to import a folder of photos from my hard drive into an album In elements 9.  I am able to import the photos, however the file names and keywords are not showing.  Help - this is not good with hundreds of photos. Thanks in advance
. I originally downloaded these from my camera to Lightroom 3, gave them filenames and keywords, then exported to a folder on my hard drive  Thanks

Thanks for your quick response.  I agree this is an awkward workflow.  I've only used Lightroom for a short time and just started using elements. I'm under the impression that Lightroom stores originals without taking up hard drive space. If I imported directly to elements, and then made adjustments, I'd have 2 versions of the photo. Also, I'd have to do save as, rather than just save if I wanted an original.  Please let me know if my thinking is all wrong!  I found the show details so now I am able to see the file names.   I did select the keywords to import.  I think my problem is I don't know where I would see the keywords when in elements.  Thanks for your help

  • Trouble importing photos into Elements 8 under Windows 7

Elements 8 is rejecting jpeg photos I am trying to import from SD card or DVD. The photos were taken with different cameras, and ones I've imported from successfully before. It labels the files as "corrupted", or "organizer doesn't recognize this file format" or other strange messages. I've successfully  imported these files into Picassa, and Windows explorer - they are plain jpegs.

So right after posting the question, I decided to try to first import into the file system and then import from the file system, and that worked. But its a pain because it changes my workflow.

  • Cannot import RAW into Lightroom 4 (Sony@500)

I am unable to import my RAW files into Lightroom 4.  My camera is a Sony Alpha 500 DSLR.
All reasearch I've done online hasn't resulted in any help.  Has anyone else had this issue?

    Welcome to the forum.
Give a little more info. Are you trying to import direct from the camera, from a card reader, or are the files on your hard drive.
If you are getting a message that the files "could not be read" it is possible that you may be trying to copy the files to a location where you may not have full permission to read and write.
Your camera is listed as supported.
Are you updated to the latest version of LR 4.4?

  • I cannot import media into Elements 12 Editor

I would like to import a video or frames from a video resp. into Photoshop Elements 12 Editor to create GIFs. But the import function is not even active.
Do I need to activate something here? Or do I need to deactivate something in the Elements Organizer?
I am working with OS X Yosemite.
    Thanks!

Adobe stop shipping photoshop elements with the Import>Frame from Video because it's outdated and the plugin is a 32 bit plugin and doesn't work in pse 12 or 13, which are 64 bit applications on mac os x.

  • Importing folders into Elements

I've had Elements 11 for some time and can't use it as I can't seem to find a way to import an existing folder structure of images. It imports it flat, with every subfolder and parent folder listed on the same level, so my organisation is shot to hell.
I'm sure it's me being dumb, (but in fact it's Elements being incredibly un-intuitive) but can someone point me to how to import an existing folder structure with many images, retaining the structure after import?
Actually thinking about it, I can barely remember how to import at all, I found it quite difficult to achieve and I think I might have drag and dropped some files?

There are two views of folder in PSE11. One is the flat fodler view which you able to see on the UI by default. You may switch to tree view of folders by clicking Cmd+T or Ctrl+T or by clicking the small icon just infront of "My Folders" label in the left panel.
To import media from a folder hierarchy, you may choose too right click on corresponding folder in tree view of folders and choose "Import Meida". Or you may import using File >> get Photos and Videos >> From files and folders.
    Thanks

  • Help! My files disappear almost as soon as I import them into Elements 10.

If I navigate away from the folder with my photos, then go back again the photos have disappeared.  If I try to import them again it tells me the files are either missing or they are already in the Catalogue.  What do I do to fix this?  I don't need to reconnect because I have not even had a chance to move anything.

    Thank you so much!!!
I had changed the view in Premier Elements to only view video files. I didn't realise it would carry over to Elements 10!
    Thanks again.

  • Problem importing files into Elements 9

Apparently Photoshop Elements 9 dropped the ability to import files from the computer in the order they are on the computer.  The only option is "date oldest" and "date newest".  This is a problem if you are combining pictures from multiple cameras with some cameras having improperly set dates.  We order tthe pictures by file name, only to have them scrambled by Elements 9 prior to uploading to Kodak.  My old version  (Elements 4) had this third option "file order" that apparently was dropped along the way. Does anyone know of "a work around."    BTW - going to Kodak and "pulling the files using their system doesn't work because it fails to bring the label along with the upload.

    Hello,
A lot has changed between Photoshop Elements 4 and 9. While "File Order" was dropped from the sort list of the Organizer Thumbnail View, it is the order method used by both the Import Batch and Folder Location Views. You can change Views by going to the Display button in the top right:

  • Importing actions into elements

I have created an action in Photoshop CS4.  I want to add it to Elements 11 or 12.
I can't find the action file.  Where is it?
    Mary Lou

In that case you can put all the actions in a set and them save the set from cs4 to somewhere like your desktop
and copy them over to your other mac that has photoshop elements the same way you copy other files over.
Then in photoshop elements 11 or 12 in the Expert mode from Window>Actions select Load Actions and navigate to the action set
You could also copy the action(s) to
    /Users/user name/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 or 12/Presets/Actions
so the action sets show up on the actions panel fly-out menu and can be loaded just clicking on the name of the action set
