Importing sd video from hxr-nx5 problems

this camera record avchd and regular sd format i ready record in sd 720x480 60i fromat but when want to edit on premier cs5 the only preset tha matches this format is dv-ntsd format but this format does no work well the image is blurry
and i dont see any preset sequense to mpeg-2 sd 720x480 60i
the question is what present can i use to edit and transfer to a regular dvd no to BRD.
please help me from sony camera nx5 to sd 720x480 60i to edit on premier cs5 to past to encore cs5 to make a dvd that is my goal thank you!

Don't worry so much about a specific MPEG2 SD editing preset--what's more important is the actual parameters.
The simple way to make sure you're matching your footage to a sequence is to drag a clip to the New Item button at the bottom of the Project Panel--that's the one that looks like a dog-earred sheet of paper. This will create a sequence that matches your footage. Next, make sure that your Paused and Playback Resolution are set to Full; right-click in the Program Monitor to set these. Since you're working with an interlaced format, you may want to experiment with the field order display options in the Program Monitor, as well.
Try those, and report back--bottom line is that what you're seeing is in Premiere Pro's display only, and shouldn't be carried through on export (assuming your sequence is properly set up).

• CS4 Importing SD video from Sony NX5

I can import it but it looks blurry and soft and needs to be rendered. The video comes from Sony NX5 tapeless camera. It records SD in mpeg2 instead of DV. The softness seems to happen during this conversion, the original video looks sharp when viewing it in Windows Media Player.
How can I import it without making it look soft?

1.Download the Flash setup file from here:
Save it to your Desktop.
• As soon as I import a video from Aftereffects to Premiere, video starts shaking. After exporting too.

> I created a video (small animation) on aftereffects including a lot of text.
> exported it in avi and .mov
> try to import it in Premiere.
I noticed it only when I exported it but some parts are shaking.
I looked at the original parts of the video in VLC, no shaking at all.
I try to import it directly from AE, same problem happening, making the text impossible to read.
I used various format and it doesn't seems to work either
So it is not a problem from the video parts but from the import in my premiere project
Do I have to change codec or somethings, or have some import settings changed? Sorry I am a total beginner :s

• Importing Digital8 Video from Camcorder

I am having problems importing digital8 video from a Sony camcorder. The import process starts out fine with each clip tagged with the correct date the video was shot. At some point, the import process results in a clip for each second or so of video, meaning that there is a thumbnail for each second or so. I notice that the affected clips have a errant year code - 65590. Any thoughts on what is causing the problem, and what I can do to fix the problem?

hey there Beverly,
i had a similar issue when i got my 1st MiniDV cam & i couldn't import because i hadn't installed the battery to set the clock & calendar. coming from analog cam, i didn't care about superimposing the time & date on my footage. so, then i actually read the user manual, found that little bit of info about the button battery.

• Can't import live video from Sony PD 170.

Just got Final Cut Pro X. In a New Event I am able to import live video from the new MacBook Pro computer's built-in camera and pre-recorded video from my Sony PD-170 camera. However, when trying to import live video from the PD-170, the program only APPEARS to do so--the clips never show up once I close the import window. Any suggestions?

I think iMovie is corrupted. I would like to try to uninstall iLife 11 but when I put in the disc there is no uninstall option. I tried trashing iMovie from applications and reinstalled all of iLife (I believe wasted space on my HD) but the issue remains. (Maybe because I didn't delete the receipts?) iMovie can not see any devices or use iSight for capture...

• Importing my video from my event library into my project library, it shows the full width of the clip, but on the viewing section, it's zoomed in and cut the sides of the video off. How do I stop this from happening?

When importing my video from the event library to the project library, it's zooming in and
narrowing the width of my footage. How do I stop this from happening?

In the project, double-click on the clip to open the Clip Inspector. In the Clip tab you will see an item about two thirds down labelled "Stabilization". If checked, uncheck the box "Smooth clip motion".
Stabilizing clips causes a zoomed in effect, with the extent of the zoom dependent upon how shaky the footage is. There is a slider beneath the check-box labelled "Maximum Zoom" - this can be draggged back and forth to adjust the zoom effect if desired, once the clip has been stabilized.
You may have chosen to analyze clips for stabilization when importing to iMovie (that's a choice provided by iMovie upon import). If so, it's best to turn off an option in iMovie's preferences. Go to this from the iMovie menu item iMovie>Preferences. Click on the Browser tab and deselect (uncheck) the box labelled "Automatically stabilize clips that have been analyzed".
I prefer to import clips without analyzing, as this speeds up the import process. Afterwards, in the Event you can check for any overly shaky clips, then analyze them in the Inspector. If necessary, once dropped into a Project, you can stabilize them as desired. You can also stabilize clips directly in the Project without having to first analyze them in the Event.

LOG AND TRANSFER. I have the full workflow here:

Make sure you are running FCP 7.0.3. That version deals with files from the NX5 the best. If you are on a previous version, like FCP 6....you will need to use CLIPWRAP2 from Divergentmedia.com. As the specific AVCHD format the NX5 uses is something that FCP 6 cannot really deal with.
Gotta love new camera formats.

• Can you import the video from an AVCHD Disc into FCP7 for editing?

Can the video from an AVCHD Disc be imported into FCP 7 for re-editing if you have a normal Superdrive burner?
The reason I ask is because last night our film-making club gave a show of short videos to some guests.
At the end it was decided to put them all on one DVD to send to the visitors as a memento.
However, some of the films were on AVCHD discs and I queried whether they could be copied, even in standard definition.
The "copier" said it was no problem as he had a PC and had done it before . . . . . cheeky devil!
So can it be done . . . . . on a PC or a Mac . . . . with a standard burner?
I have just tried but nothing in the BDMV folder can be imported.

GOT IT!
Copy the BDMV folder from the AVCHD disc to the desktop.
Use HandBrake to convert the .m2ts files to H.264
Then convert the H.264 files to an editable format.
Rather convoluted process but it works.
Anyone know a better method?

• Having trouble importing mpeg videos from an external hard drive to iMovie or iPhoto. Keeps saying unrecognizable format. How do I get it to work?????

I have always had a dell computer. But after the 3rd crash, we decided to throw it out and get a mac. We bought this computer a week ago. I was able to save all our family pics and videos from the dell to an external hard drive. So when I got the new Mac set up, I plugged the hard drive in and had no problem importing all our pictures. But when I tried to import our videos, I ran into some problems. We have had 3 different cameras with each having a different video format. All our videos are either avi, mpeg, or mov. All the avi videos imported successfully but the others will not. I tried importing them into imovie and iphoto and neither one will recognize the format. iphoto says unrecognizable format and imovie just completely freezes and I have to force quit. Here is what is funny. I took the hard drive to my local store and when they hooked it up to their computer, they imported beautifully. Why won't it do the same for my brand new computer? Thanks!

• What are the correct setup and system settings for importing HDV video from tape?

I keep trying different "easy setups" and system settings/preferences in order to import both the audio and video from HDV recordings on miniDV tape to no avail in either FCE4 or FCP5. I import via firewire from the camera. My computer "sees" the camera and controls playback (I can hear the audio) but no video displays for capture (just color bars).
My camera is a Canon Vixia HV40 and my computer is a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
I've tried the HDV easy setup...no video...
I've tried HDV 1080i/60 as I saw recommended somewhere else...no video...
Captures standard video just fine but I'd like to try editing some higher def footage.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks.

The combination of all these helpful ideas solved the problem.
I set AV settings to HD and Apple Intermediate Codec HDV 1080i/60 AND set the cameras output to "locked" HDV. Funny, it had been on "A" (Auto) before and should have simply sensed the need for HD output. I then tried to capture using "A" again and this time it detected the difference between SD footage and HDV footage (I had clips of both kinds on the same tape).
I ran similar capture tests on FCP 5.1, FCE 4, and FCPX and all three programs captured HDV video and audio.
Thanks again everyone. Be sure the camera is set to output HDV or "A".

• IMovie can't import any video (from Sony cam or iPhone or iSight)

iMovie worked yesterday with my camera (Sony HDR-XR200) just fine. Today imovie will see the camera and pull up the clip selection menu but no clips ever load. I tried to connect my iphone as well to see if it was the camera or the software and imovie also can not recognize my iphone (for importing video) or isight. Any ideas?
I have tried
-different cables
-complete shut down on macbook and battery pull from camera, reconnect everything, same problem.
-software update, restart.
-deleting the preference file (something recommended in this forum)
If I try to import video from isight, imovie stops responding and I have to force quit.
Thanks for any help, I'm stuck.

• Automatic importing of videos from iphoto killing me!

hello there folks,
I recently purchased an imac and am having problems in imovie. When I open the application, it automatically looks for videos to import from my iphoto library and it is killing me! I have hundreds of iphoto videos and it just sits there looking for hours with the spinning icon in the events window and I cannot do anything else. I have gone to the preferences but cannot find a way for it not to import videos from iphoto automatically when I launch the app. I do not need my iphoto videos in my events library and would prefer to do it manually. Is there anyway to stop this? Is this common or does my machine have a problemo?
thanks so much. I even left it overnight and it is just sitting there looking for video like a drooling zombie.

iMovie will automatically scan and generate thumbnails for any movies you have added to iPhoto upon launch. If you don't want it to go through that cycle (which should only happen when you add new movies, not every time you launch), remove the movies from iPhoto.
You can easily remove all the movies from iPhoto by doing the following:
1.) Launch iPhoto
2.) Go to File > New Smart Album
3.) Set the Smart Album to use the following parameters: "Photo" "is" "Movie"
__This will gather all the movies into one place
4.) Make a new folder on the desktop
5.) Drag all the movies from the Smart Album you created to the folder on the desktop. This will copy them out of iPhoto.
6.) Highlight all the movies in the smart album and press command + option + delete.
__This will delete all the movies.
__Now you can open iMovie and it will not have any iPhoto videos to index.
__In the future when you import movies to iPhoto, immediately drag them out and delete them to avoid this behavior in the future.
Hope that helps.
