Importing .sfk Sony Vegas files

Hello,
My friends recently recorded at a studio at which they were using Sony Vegas 9. I have the .sfk files and I have all the .wav files from all the takes. Rather than try to puzzle together the takes from 14 songs, I was hoping there is a way to import the .sfk files... but I can't seem to find anything about it. Has anyone done this before?

Thanks. I haven't had an opportunity to fully play around and see what is there, but a quick look is worrying. There are about 1,000 wav files and although they are named for what mic they represent (ie: bass, right tom etc), the rest of the file is just a default numbering scheme that doesn't seem to relate to anything other than in which order that file was recorded. I was hoping I could import his sfk files and have the times for where the edits are.
That sounds like an impossible task as the sfk files don't contain that kind of info, it's just data for a graphic rendition of the wav file.
Question... are the wav files at least separated by song.. a folder that holds all the files to song1, song2 etc...?
If so import all of the files to one song, select all files (Apple key + A) then under the regions menu select "move regions to original record position".

  • Seamless import of Sony MRC1K files into FCP X?

I am planning on purchasing the Sony MRC1K "Direct To Edit" unit for my Canon XHA1.  Will FCP X recognize the files to import that the Sony MRC1K creates?

Well, I've got time if thats what it takes.
My goal is to convert the 32gb of "AVI files" into something compatible in FCP X without reducing the video quality. I don't know a specific file type, I just imported them from MINI DV into Sony Vegas (and then just dragged the files from Vegas onto an external and now just want them to get into FCP X)
I just downloaded Stream Clip, added 100 clips (4gb) of avi clips to batch list, but am having trouble converting. I tried converting to DV or Quicktime and the response is "Error: Can't create the MOV file"

  • Importing a project from Sony Vegas

I'm trying to import a project that was initially edited in Sony Vegas to do audio and color correction in Final Cut. Apart from rendering the project out to an HDV tape, and re-importing it into Final Cut through Log and Capture, what is the best methodology so as to retain the most data for timelines, etc.
We can even go so far as to have the original hard drives, but I just can't fathom how to migrate into final cut.
    Suggestions?

The back to tape method sounds good. Otherwise using flip4mac to import an intermediate AVI's is also good.
    Does Vegas export EDL's ?

  • Sony Vegas Metadata and File tagging?

Howdy! I used to use Sony Vegas on the PC and have made the switch to FCP. Im liking all that I see but there was one feature that was great in vegas that i can’t find in FCP. It was the ability to tag your clips eg “falls” “Dave” “Bride” “Somersault” and use the tags to recall the relevant clips.
This was great when making wedding videos for example and you just wanted to quickly find all the clips that had the Bride in it.
Is there something like this via a plug in program or otherwise that can be done in FCP7 or is this done by the naming of files? If so does anyone have a good simple workflow for naming of the files?
    Ta!

You can name the clips in the browser. You can add comments to any number of multiple columns in the browser. The browser is a searchable database. Once the information is input just press Cmd-F to bring up the find function, enter what you want and press Find All. Is this the kind of thing you mean?

  • How to recover sony ARW files deleted by Aperture after importing?

I imported some Sony RAW photos (in .ARW format, shot by Sony Nex 6) from a SDXC card into Aperture library with my MacBook Pro, and as usual I let Aperture deleted the files on the SDXC card (i.e. I did not deleted the files using Finder).  Unfortunately I accidentally deleted the imported ARW files (as masters in the Aperture library) by Carbon Capy Cloner (I made a copy in the wrong direction after editing the photos).  Now I am trying to recover those ARW files.  I used several Photo recovery software but they do not recognize any deleted ARW files on the SD card (nor on my hard drive). The best result was from Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery software, which recognizes those deleted ARW files as NEF files but the size of each photo is only 32KB (it shows the photo in its preview).  I recovered them, but no software can open those 32KB NEF files.  It appears to me that Aperture somehow deleted the ARW files on the SD card in a way (very different from Finder deletion) that photo recovery software can't recognize them.  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

Yes I understand that trying to recover from my HD is more difficult, so my attention is on the card now.  In fact, I tried to use Stellar to recover from the HD as well and I got tons of other photos and non of them is ARW.
I have kept both the HD and the card not being used anymore (I stopped using it right after I made the copy in the wrong direction, and the card is not being used after Aperture deleted the photos), so the data should be there.  I tested with Stellar on a new card.  I shot some ARW photos and format the card on my NEX 6 camera, then try to recover them with Stellar.  Same result: no ARW files, only NEF files of size 32KB or less (the photos in the preview are correct).  Strange.  I tried Remo software, no ARW either, not even NEF files.  I guess I am using the wrong recovery software (although they advertise that they recover ARW files).  Is there any recovery software that DOES recover ARW photos shot by Sony NEX 6?

Thanks.  I do not have the experience on burning discs from iMovie for the movie after editing (ie for video discs players).  It seems that i cannot find the relevant command in the tool bar for this purpsoe.  Would you please show me the way?
The command is gone because iDVD has been discontinued by Apple. After Apple discontinued iDVD they removed the iDVD burning link from iMovie. I still use iDVD sometimes, only because I have an old copy.

You have mentioned about Handbrake as a converter.  What is the RF no. (under Constant Quality) meant?  It seems that the smaller the no. is, the better quality will be.  What is the optimal no.? or should we use the Average Bitrate? Again, what is the best rate?  Furthermore, which format is more suitable or the best: H264 or mpeg 2/4?
I don't know what RF means. When I have used HandBrake, I've used presets that apply to what I want to do, so I don't know the meaning of each individual setting. However, it appears that many of them are listed in the HandBrake User's Guide that is linked from the Help menu in the program:

For iMac, except iMovie, what other software is the best for the amateur?  I have read Photoshop.  Can this support m2ts files and user friendly?
Photoshop is not amateur-level software, and although it can edit a video, it cannot burn a DVD. Unfortunately, because I still use iMovie, I haven't tried anything else. You might want to read the reviews of various DVD-burning applications in the Mac App Store.

  • Will opening a file with Sony Vegas make the SD card unreadable in FCP?

We record events on campus with a Panasonic AG-HMC40P. Our office uses Final Cut Pro to edit the files, however one of our staff used his copy of Sony Vegas to edit an event he recorded. Now the card is not readable through FCP. Did using another editing suite cause the problem?

Only if Sony Vegas "writes" to the card, which is a huge problem and shouldn't happen.

  • I am trying to import for Sony RAW .mxf files in AE. I get an error message, cannot be imported - this.mxf file is damages or unsupported.

I am on a PC. AE version 12.1.0.168. It is updated.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem. We are working on a feature film shot on Sony F55 in 4K RAW.

Thanks. Now it works in PP and AE.

First, your AE needs to be updated. The current version is 12.2.1.5
If that does not fix the problem let us know.
Second question, are you using the Sony import utility? If not, give that a try. Last question, can you open the files in Premiere Pro? I hope you are not trying to cut a feature film in After Effects.

  • File compatibilty woth Sony Vegas

Need to get HDV files captured and edited in FCP 6 to a client using Sony Vegas. What are my best options to ensure maximum compatibility?
    Any ideas.

Look at the SHEER codecs. Cross platform, lossless quality...but cost a little:
    http://www.bitjazz.com/en/products/sheervideo/
Other options would be to export out as ANIMATION codec, or Photo-Jpeg at 75%....but that makes HUGE files.
BAsic rule of NLE editing...capture on the system you will be editing with.
Barring that, SHEER is a great option.

  • Sony F2 files import

I am trying to import files shot on a Sony F3 camera into FCP X. After import I only get a green box in the clip bin. What am i doing wrong?

hey tom. i meant to say Sony F3 files. sorry. I have since downloaded Sony's transcoding software and trying it that way.
BUT I originally important files that were transcoded for FCP 7. They play great in Quicktime but when i brought them into FCP X they have a color shift and strobing.
Am i doing the right thing using Sony software to import? seems like FCP X would be able to play the FCP 7 version or just import them directly.
    thanks

  • Imported Sony MXF files are only 3 frames long.

I recently got a new system with Win7, CS4, and Matrox Axio LE.  I have the latest Axio utilities installed and I installed the 4.2 version of Premiere Pro.  I also installed the Sony XDCAM drivers for the PDW-U1 disc reader and the proxy videos play fine.
I have imported the same MXF files on an older, slower, less RAM, XP PRO system using CS3 without any problems.
The video was shot with a Sony PDW-F355 XDCAM HD at 35Mbit.
I'm curious if I'm missing a codec, driver, or something similar.  I did get a "DirectShow" error at one point.
If anyone has any ideas, even ridiculous ones, I'm willing try anything.
    Thanks.
    Jason

    Squared 5 info:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
The above is free and can do a lot of video transcoding.
"Progressive footage do you mean 1080p? "
    Yes that's correct.
Interlaced means 2 fields of video working together to display one frame.
The TV/Monitor scans lines 1,3,5,7,9 and so on for the first field then 2,4,6,8 for the next to create the frame.
Progressive displays one frame without this interlacing.
At 1080 you must use Interlaced eg. 1920 x 1080i.
Quicktime itself is like a container that holds stuff, think of a tin can and you decide what to put in there.
Quicktime holds lots of differing types of CoDecs (Compression/Decompression).
Codecs conform to exact standards and FCE understands some of them.
That's why whatever you use or transcode a file to, must conform to an FCE Easy Setup so it works seamlessly.

  • QT 7.6.9 incompatible with Sony Vegas, 7.6 is (???)

When I install 7.6.9 on my Windows 7 machine, Sony Vegas 8.0b imports MP4 / mov files with the video black and the audio present. When I downgrade to 7.6, everything works fine.
Does anyone have any idea why? Is Apple aware of this? Is there any way to report the problem to them? Obviously some change they made broke the compatibility...

This would be Sony's problem to fix, not Apple's, and given that Vegas 8.x is now two major releases and a couple of years old (and probably not even certified for Windows 7), I very much doubt that Sony will do anything about it other than to tell you to upgrade to the new version of Vegas. You can try updating to 8.0c and see if that would help, but otherwise, you'll probably need to either purchase the new version of Vegas or stay with an older version of QuickTime.
    Regards.

  • MTS- Sony Vegas- FCP

I have a client who has HD footage that was shot as MTS. He's done his editing in Sony Vegas and he's ready to export his video. I will then integrate that video into a 720p60 timeline in Final Cut Pro. What would be his best export setting for me to then use in FCP? I realize I might have go to Compressor to convert it but I'm unfamiliar with Vegas and I don't know what to tell him. Also, I don't want his render to be uncompressed. It'll be way to big. What would be an Apple ProRes-like export codec for him to use out of Vegas?

Sony Vegas reads ProRes files. QT for PC must be installed first, if it is not already there.
[Edit] Sorry, read the OP incorrectly. Render to MXF 422 35 mbps in Vegas. This format imports well into FCP. A free importer from Sony is required in FCP however. Google will find it for you if you do not already have it.
