Importing + sharing + working

Hi Experts,
please advise for the following situation I need to deal with:
- 2 digital cameras
- 3 Macs:
-- iMac as the powerful machine - used to import the pictures
-- MB Air - I take with me for selected photos / projects / albums to view&edit
-- MB pro - for the second user who wants to view and use (mostly staying in WLAN range of the iMac)
- plenty of HD capacity in the iMac or connected to it.
- size of pictures: 40Gb and growing with 1GB per month
I want to name the files of the two cameras like this:
2009.05.0209_58_33EOS 40D_5732.JPG
2009.05.0217_58_01_Ixus870_IMG0210.JPG
and store it somewhere. This helps getting all originals in one folder structure sorted by date-taken and indicates camera models.
Then a import to iphoto for metadata should take place.
Taking a set (album or a project in words of Aperture) with me to work on it or add further metadata.
How should I set up the 3 iphoto programs to have smooth workflow?
Should I add iPhoto Library Manager or buy Aperture?
Change behaviour and maintain only at iMac is impossible as I am travelling a lot and love my MB Air.
Thanks a lot for help!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Straightforward enough.
The number of digital cameras doesn't matter.
There is no need to name the files in the way you suggest as all that information - date, camera model etc - is already in the Exif and you can easily search on it.
However, if you want to do it, then move the files from your Camera to a folder on the desktop using Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) and then use a batch renamer like Name Mangler to rename the files. Afterwards import them to iPhoto.
Use the iMac as your main Library.
If your concerned about disk space remember that you can run iPhoto from an external disk (formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)):
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
To move Albums, Events or photos between Libraries - including all versions and metadata - use iPhoto Library Manager.
So, import to the iMac. Move an Album of Photos to the MBA using iPhoto Library Manager . Process or edit them. Move them back, again using iPhoto Library Manager.
As for sharing with the MBP: Use iPhoto Sharing in the Preferences:
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter the main library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and move to the other machine. There, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
As to purchasing Aperture... If you're shooting Raw or very high volumes, then comsider it - and ignore everything I just wrote...

  • Import shared library, edit vi's, arrange menu

I'm creating a labview interface to a large dll, so I use the Tools->Import->Shared library, and it works GREAT! I have a user library I can call from the palette. So I keep adding to the dll, and now have over 100 function calls. I would like to keep the dll's in a single library, but I am constantly updating them as our drivers change (still under development). So each time I create the library, i need to edit all the connectors, and the palette is getting unwieldy. I've googled and looked through NI-DZ and Lava with no help, so I expect I just need to do a lot of manual cleanup after the import function. But, if i missed something:
Is there a way to control the Import Shared Library wizard? (command file-like?)
     - define what are inputs and what are outputs? define the terminal patterns and connections?
How can I modify the palette menu created by the process (sub-menu's, rename items, sort items?)
     - the "Tools->Advanced->Edit Palette Set" seems really akward.
Any pointers to tutorials or white papers on creating libraries from a large dll?
    Thank You!

    Hi brimcd,
Concerning editing the connections of the VI generated, when importing the updated DLL and header file, I would imagine that the unchanged bits of the header file would create connections in the same way you had created them for previous versions. As for editing the palettes, you can also access the editor by pinning the specific palette to the block diagram, and then selecting Customize.
It seems like you've got a great handle on the process, but in case you want a reference, here's a very complete tutorial on creating wrapper VIs for DLLs using the Wizard. I hope this helps!

  • Importing Shared Contacts into the Global Address List (Outlook 2013)

A colleague of mine has made a contact list which is going to be shared with other colleagues to increase productivity.
His question is, if it's possible to import the contact list into the Global Address List after it has been shared?
The contact list does not appear in my Global Address List, instead it appears in the People section (next to Calender).
If you need technical info about the office version etc., feel free to ask!
    Thanks in advance.

    SP-Brown,
You can import contacts into Active Directory, so that it can be included in GAL. There are some gotchas with that however. Maybe, a simple Outlook folder sharing is more convenient for you. You can share Outlook Contacts folders among collagues just the
same as Outlook Calendar sharing works. Start here:
    https://support.office.com/en-au/article/Share-an-Outlook-calendar-with-other-people-cafb9303-1b1e-40d3-839d-b6abac03a5e8
    https://support.office.com/en-in/article/Share-a-contacts-folder-with-others-58ca1290-e170-4f89-a213-03aa6750bcf3
With Exchange Public Folders you can achieve somewhat the same.
If you really want to mess with AD and the GAL, this is your article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/activedirectoryua/archive/2011/01/14/import-mail-contact-into-active-directory-using-csvde.aspx
    Jan
The ideal situation would be if the shared Contacts Folder shows up in the Offline GAL, but I'll try to fiddle around with it for a bit.
Is there also a possibilty that users can import a contact list so that appears in their Offline GAL?, I do think that it might be a hassle to keep the contacts updated....

  • Error when importing Shared Dimension through LCM

We are using Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.3 with an EPMA application. We have one environment where all of the dimensions are in the Shared Library, and the application dimensions are shared from there (DEV environment). In another environment, we have the same application, but its using only local dimensions (UAT environment)
We are looking to migrate some changes to members from DEV to UAT, but don't want to share the dimensions in UAT (yet anyways). Here is how I was going about migrating the dimensions:
    1. In Shared Services in DEV, exporting the dimensions from EPM Architect from Foundation Services (from under Dimensions (Shared))
    2. In Shared Services in UAT, importing the dimensions from the file system into EPMA from Foundation Services (into Dimensions (Shared)), then using the "Synchronize > From Shared Library" to push those changes to the application's local dimensions.
When I import the file system from DEV into UAT, the import fails and gives me the following error message for the Account dimension (only trying the one dimension for now):
    REPORTED WITHOUT ERROR DETAILS
Here is a link to the screenshot of the error: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12604803/HSS-LCM-Error.jpg
It appears that the LCM import does work as it creates the dimension in the Shared Library, but I am not sure why I am getting this error message.
I also tried to import the exported Shared Dimension for Account directly into the application (rather than the Shared Library) by just moving the "Account" file from:
    <export file name>\resource\Dimensions (Shared)
    to
    <export file name>\resource\Application Metadata\Planning Applications\<appname>\Common Dimensions
And this imports without any errors! I'd rather not go this way as it's more of a manual process, and I'd like to keep it as straightforward as possible.
I have searched the error message on OTN, the Oracle Knowledge Base and Google, but haven't really been able to come across any real information.
Any insight you may have would be greatly appreciated!

More of an update. We have a sandbox environment as well, and I was able to import the Shared Dimensions through LCM without any issue on that server.
I also tried rebooting the server with the issues, but still get that cryptic error message.
I looked through the logs and saw this in the EPMA.log
    2011-03-31 15:51:13,194 [[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '1' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'] ERROR com.hyperion.awb.web.lcm.ArtifactManager - Error code is AWB_WEB_ERR_LCM_IMPORT_ARTIFACTS_PATHNAME
2011-03-31 15:51:13,194 [[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '1' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'] ERROR com.hyperion.awb.web.lcm.ArtifactManager - doImportArtifacts: Error importing 'Account' at path '/Dimensions (Shared)'
Seems to be connected to the issue I am having, but couldn't find anything on OTN, Oracle KB or Google. Other imports to this environment work, so not sure why the pathname would throw issues.
I also verified that EPMA and HSS on all environments are using the same version.

  • Trying to connect my iMac to on 10.8.2 with PowerBook Intel on 10.5.8; sharing works from PowerBook to iMac but not the other way around. Why?

Trying to connect my iMac to on 10.8.2 with PowerBook Intel on 10.5.8; sharing works from PowerBook to iMac but not the other way around. Why?

Thanks for the interest. Preferences are similar on both machines: screen sharing, file sharing, printer sharing & scanner sharing all ticked and radio button for Screen Sharing is ON.
My confusion is that I can get a network connection to the iMac by selecting "go to server" on the PowerMac running 10.5.8 but am unable to make the iMac connect to the PowerMac using similar selections. When ethernet cable is plugged in the PowerMac shows up on the finder bar on the iMac, but it does not allow either screen sharing or connection to occur - a dialog box tells me to check System Prefs and Network connection.
I'm hoping to export a large file of photos from iPhoto on my iMac to my wife's PowerMac and hoped to achieve this with an ethernet network connection.

  • Question about import the work repository

I am trying to import a work repository from server B to server A, originally the work repository in server B was imported from server A, I did some modification in Server B, and export it, now I am trying to import it back to server A.
I get the error as below:
com.sunopsis.core.n: This import action has been cancelled because it could damage your repository (problem with the identifier sequences)
in topology manager/repository, I have same ID in both work repository, what should I do to import this work repository back to server A?
    Thanks

    Bad news...
Unfortunately after start to create/delete objects the sequence of each repository get its own values and is not possible to syncronize it again after that.
Until today I saw export and import only working into empty repository.
There is a way to do the work manually, controlling each repository ID but is complex and take time.
Maybe Oracle support have some script ready for that.

  • Where are imported shared libraries defined

in system-application.xml, the imported-shared-libraries are defined as :
    <imported-shared-libraries>
    <import-shared-library name="oracle.dms"/>
    <import-shared-library name="oracle.jdbc"/>
and these are used in server.xml like:
    <import-shared-library name="oracle.jdbc"/>
my questions is where does the imported libraries name and actual jar files defined. for ex. for the name oracle.jdbc, where are the jar libraries location defined?
I got a problem looks like application server not able to find these jars unless I copy them to the applib folder.
    Thanks

Additional shared libraries may be configured to override the default shared libaries, including the oracle.jdbc library.

DAY;Resource Name;Summary Task Name; Task Name; hours
(Priority 2) Import actual work for each resource inmy Project in the following format:
DAY;Resource Name;Summary Task Name(if needed); Task Name; hours
I'm searching into forum but I'm not clear what is the correct object to use.
Thanks a lot for your help.

In primis thanks a lot for your answer.
I want create a macro VBA and add a "botton" on task bar in order to execute this macro - output format is CSV file but I think is excellent if I write it in Excel format.
I have partially closed first priority (you can see below code) - I need create a little message box in order to receive period and path output.
I appreciate your collaboration in order to help me. :)

What update are you referring to?  If you do a search for "Kodak" in the iPhoto community you'll find numerous posts regarding problems with Kodak cameras.
So far there's no known fix.  The best workaround is to use a card reader with the memory card of the camera.

    Hi jmeckoll1,
It sounds as if you are trying to set up family sharing starting with an Apple ID which someone has already used to start a family group. Presumably this person is within the family group you want to share with. One solution to this issue would be to ask to join this family group. See this article -
OS X Yosemite: Join a family
If this is not the desired result, you will need to set up your own family group using an unused Apple ID that is in use for iCloud. See this article -
OS X Yosemite: Set up Family Sharing
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I use the screen sharing quite a lot to communicate with my co-workers, so it's a deal breaker if the app crashes when using the screen sharing option. Thank you!

Does home sharing work for apps? My young son received iPad mini for Christmas, and I don't want him to have to repurchase the games and other raps I'd already bought for him that are resident on my iPad.

does Home Sharing allow you to copy any item begtween libraries, including CDs you have ripped yourself
It certainly allows you to copy ripped CDs. Just did that myself last week.
