Importing Some CDs not Possible?

I have trouble importing some CDs. While usually Itunes picks up my CD and asks to import when I put it in the drive (on my toshiba laptop), sometimes, it simply does not react, or a player pops up and starts playing the CD, but itunes, doen't act on it. I've tried going to file, and importing, but i cant seem to get that to work either. Thoughts, help, etc

This is usually because of some copy protection added to the disk by the manufacturer. Have you tried ripping the CD using another program then importing the files to iTunes?

First-off, this seems to be a general problem with 10.4 (across all the operating systems of which I am aware).  Unfortunately, I cannot provide a permanent solution but, if you need a quick fix, this will (hopefully) work for you.
For some inexplicable reason, iTunes no longer recognises standard Windows paths.  For example:
    Y:\Music\Buddy Holly\Buddy Holly - Rave On.mp3
The end result is that it will import a playlist with no content.
It will, however, recognise the equivalent Apple paths which look like this:
    file://localhost/Y:/Buddy Holly/Buddy Holly - Rave On.mp3
It is possible to convert your existing playlists using a few basic replace commands in something like Notepad.  In my case, I made some code changes in my music manager and now generate two sets of playslists (one standard and one to accommodate iTunes).
Forgive me foir stating the obvious but please remember to make sure that the disk / path containing your music is accessible when doing the import otherwise you will probably get a blank result.  Note that you can do a bulk import by selecting all the (revised) playlists and dragging them onto the iTunes sidebar.
I am sorry that this is not a "clean" solution but it will work if you are in a bind.  The only alternative of which I am aware is to wait for Apple to fix the problem.

  • I recently imported some CDs, the songs loaded fine, they play on the computer and all, but when I go to put them on my iPhone, they don't show up.  Yes I have tried manually selecting them, that too has failed.  This is infuriating, please help!!!!

I have imported some Cds, they play fine on the computer.  When i sleect them to go on my iphone they never show up, this whole icloud set up for music is really annoying.  i wish itunes woudl go back to the way things were, a simple click on a song/album/artist and boom, theyre on your ipod. now you have to finish a maze, get a masters degree, and then solve three riddles before you even can import something from a recently imported CD.

Have you tried deleting the songs from Settings?
Settings -> General -> Usage -> Manage Storage (not the iCloud link!) -> Music and then click Edit to enable you to be able to delete.

  • Problems playing/importing some cds

Anyone have problems playing/importing some cds? Most cds are fine, but some that play fine on other players skip badly or won't play/import at all on itunes.

Jackie, no one did it intentionally, thanks to the wonderful folks at SonyBMG. This is exactly why I started boycotting copy-protected disks 18 months ago when I was still using my PC. My opinion is neither here nor there, let's get you to the thread that's already working on this issue. Richard Merenbach on this thread struggled through & worked out a "fix" that got his drive up & running. I would suggest you try his "fix" first, instructions are posted in the other thread. Please let us know on that thread how you are doing because several of us are monitoring the thread.
PS-Sorry it took so long to answer, just got home from work.

  • Why will some CDs not work properly with my Macbook Pro with Retina display?

I have the external CD drive for the Macbook Pro with Retina display, but I'm finding that some CDs will not run their applications properly. However, on the older editions of the Macbook Pro (for example, on the 13"), the programs run fine. Is there something I can download to fix this problem?

When the MBP-R does not run CD applications "properly", what does it do?
Is it possible that the applications that do not run properly are incompatible with Mountain Lion? For example, might they be old PowerPC applications that relied on Rosetta to run on Intel CPUs?

  • Trouble importing SOME cds?

I think I know the problem but there has got to be away around it...help. I am about ready to throw this thing.
I have been reimporting all of my hundreds of CD and some will not import...they are saying that their is a privilege issue. I think that the artist/label have restrict importing of those CDs? I need to get them on my mac/iTunes. I have imported them on a work PC but when I bring them over I can not change anything and still can not convert to AAC (privilege restriction) or add the artwork.
    Please someone Help!

  • Can't import some cds to itunes

    Hi
I am unable to import at least 10% of my cds into iTunes. Get the error message: "The file [track/cd name] could not be converted. You don't have write access for your iTunes media folder or a folder within it. To change permissions select your iTunes Media folder in the Finder, and choose File>GetInfo".
I did this several times and made sure I had permissions to read/write, but still can't import many cds.
    Would appreciate your help!
    Rob

Just reinstall it. Back up as soon as you can.

  • ITunes crashes when importing some CDs

I am running iTunes 6.0.3 on 10.4.4. This latest version of iTunes has improved my ability to import audio CDs, but I still often see crashes of iTunes when importing into MP3 at 160 kbps (I'd imported long ago at 128kbps).
I have tried all the things recommended in other threads: removing the CD Info.cidb file, removing the com.apple.kernelcaches folder and Extensions.kextcache file. I see similar problems when running iTunes as another user, and have repaired the disk using Disk Utility when booted from my Tiger Install DVD.
As a test, I've tried importing from a particularly obstreperous CD as AAC, and it imports fine. Other MP3 bitrates also crash iTunes.
Given that importing as AAC works, but MP3 doesn't, are there any suggestions on perhaps reinstalling whatever portions of the OS that handle MP3 encoding? I have installed LAME, but the library paths in the crash logs only point to real system libraries. I did an Archive and Install when I updated to Tiger (and that was after installing LAME).

did u get this resolved? i have the same issues...

  • Import of Profitcenter not possible

    Hello experts,
I would like to import some profitcenter after updating of SAP from 8.8 to 8.81 PL05.
Since 8.81 there are some more fields by profitcenter like the field EffectivFrom. This field need a date format.
Normally DTW needs alwayss the follwing date format: yyyymmtt
I have tried different formats, but nothiing worked. DTW says always that I have a wrong date format.
Can any body help me in this issue???
This is an example which I would like to import:
CenterCode     CenterName     GroupCode     InWhichDimension     CostCenterType     EffectiveFrom     EffectiveTo     Active
CenterCode     CenterName     GroupCode     InWhichDimension     CostCenterType     EffectiveFrom     EffectiveTo     Active
    10000     allgemein     10               20110101          Y
    Best regards,
    Vural

    Hi Vural,
Good day!  here is a tip on how to determine the format of date in Profit center.
    1. add a sample profit center in your SAP make sure to encode a value for effective date from and to.
    2. after adding the profit center create a query.
    SELECT T0.[ValidFrom], T0.[ValidTo], T0.[PrcCode], T0.[PrcName] FROM OPRC T0
    3. look for your effective 'FROM' and 'TO' field.
    4. copy the format in this field and put it in your dtw template.
    hope this will help you.
    Regards,
    Darius

  • My iTunes will import some CDs but others won't even start although it does recognise the songs. Why is this?

iTunes does recognise all my CDs - some will import without any problems but others are problematic and will not import at all. It acts stubborn and doesn't even bother importing the first song - nevermind starting the import in the first place.

I've attached an image. Are you not seeing the spinning circle and the 'Checking for updates...' message?
In that case you can download Firefox 21.0 from here:
    http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
Install the file and it will replace your current version. Bookmarks, history etc will be saved.

Do these CD's show up when you go into MY Computer and can they be played by some other program, such as Windows Media Player?
Also, are these CD's ones that you have created and burned yourself or are they shop bought CD's?

  • Converting of CDs not possible, You dont have the right to convert...

I just went from iTunes Windows to iTunes Mac. There weren´t any problems to restore the library and to bring my iPod to the new environment. But now, when I want to import CDs iTunes does not import and tells me there were conflicts with converting the CDs because I would not have the rights to do that.
Is there any help for me

It likely said "Attempting to copy to the disk 'your hard drive name' failed. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."

  • I have already imported some CDs to my iTunes library, why can't I put these CDs on my iphone?

I already have the CDs on my iTunes.  It wont let me put these CDs on my iphone 4.  It wants me to restore my iphone which I don't want to do.

What does "it" want you to restore your iPhone?
What if any error messages are appearing on the device?

  • Import of Playlist not possible

    Hi,
since iTunes 8.1 it's impossible to import and sync prepared playlists (format: m3u). The playlist are listed, but they are empty. The music library is empty too.
If I use an older version (i.e. 8.0.2), everything works fine.
Looks like bug in iTunes 8.1.x
    Kind regards
    sunny2k1 aka Sven Janssen

Does anyone know of a work-around for this issue?
I have over 1,000 tracks in a music library on a file server. I have used iTunes to build a library locally on a Mac Mini, but I can't create iTunes playlists from the existing m3u playlists in the original library on the server.
The existing playlists group the various tracks into their original albums so I can play each album all the way through in track sequence by playing the playlist on my network media player (Roku Soundbridge.) I want to do the same on the Mini using iTunes without having to hand-convert all the existing m3u playlists. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
