Importing song ratings from Music Match.

I am new to iTunes.
I am trying to switch from Music Match to iTunes in preparation for buying my 1st iPod (Nano). It seems that my song ratings from MMJB do not transfer into iTunes. Should these ratings transfer and I am just doing something wrong?
If not, any suggestions on how to best accomplish this task? I am thinking grouping songs by rating in MMJB, either in playlists or by moving each rating to a different folder on disk; then importing into iTunes songs of each rating separately. Hopefully in iTunes there is a way to rate a group of songs all together, rather than having to mark each one individually.

The playlist idea is probably the best one. Export your playlists (5 of them, one for each rating), import them, select all the playlist contents in iTunes, right click the selection, set the rating to whatever.

  • Importing song ratings without auto-sync or 3rd party software

My iPod Classic contains all my Mac iTunes' library (approx 150GB), and they auto-sync, so ratings, play counts etc are sync'ed seamlessly.
I manage my iPod nano and iPhone manually since their respective capacities are too small for my library.
How do I import song ratings etc back into iTunes without 3rd party software or creating playlists (dedicated to the nano and the phone) and auto-syncing just those playlists?
    Many thanks!

Hey! By mistake I found the solution to my exact question i.e. how to have ratings etc synced automatically without the use of playlists or 3rd parties. (Meg's answer actually convinced me to use dedicated playlists, but then, after toying with the devices and iTunes I stumbled on the solution to my original dilemma, which I've seen discussed in many places but not yet answered)
    So here it is:
when you connect the device (nano multi-touch or iphone 4, don't know about others) to iTunes, while having "Manually manage music" disabled (with "Enable disk use" enabled or disabled, it doesn't matter), go to Music tab, check "Sync Music", choose "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres" and that's it. You don't check any actual playlists, artists etc below, you can drag from iTunes and drop your chosen music to the device, play it, rate it, connect to iTunes and sync and you'll see the rating and play counts updated. Simple as that.
Thank you Meg, your answer is actually the best, I guess, since having the dedicated playlists tends to keep things more in order, but - thank you Apple! - you don't always need to be perfectly organized in order to have an up-to-date rating.

  • Can I import songs downloaded from Wallmart & other sites?

I have music I downloaded from Wallmart & other sites. Can these be imported into iTunes & then in the iPod?
    Thanks you,
    Howieb

You can't import songs downloaded from Walmart music service. They are copy protected (DRM) wma files and both itunes and the ipod do not support that. You would need to burn those songs to a music CD and then reimport the CD via itunes or another ripper encoder.
There is no direct way of doing that as far as I know.

  • N95 8GB - Over 900 songs disappeared from Music Pl...

Last night all my songs disappeared from Music Player. They still show up in Menu/Tools/File mgr./E:/Sound Clips/Digital Sounds but I can't get them back into Music Player.
I've tried Refresh and still nothing, "Refresh Complete, 0 Songs Added". I've even tried re-booting the device and still nothing.
How do I get this sorted?
    Thanks, Mick.

    Hi Mick75, try the following:
    1) Connect the phone in "Data transfer" mode to your PC.
    2) Delete the two files in "E:\private\101FFC31" ( called "mpxv1.mpd" and "pcv5.mpd" ).
    3) Delete the one file in "E:\private\101ffca9" ( called "harvesterdb.dat" ).
    4) Disconnect the phone from the PC and run the Music Player on the phone.
    5) Wait a while for the app to startup. It will be rebuilding the library......
    6) Just to be sure, select "Refresh".
This will rebuild your music library entirely from scratch.
Thanks, I find that works ok but it only seems to be a temporary fix. I've done that in the past as well but I find that those files seem to come back and need to be deleted again.

  • Export/import song ratings across different playlists

    Possible, yes. Easy, no.
I created this script a while back to do just this sort of thing: http://ottodestruct.com/blog/2006/02/03/itunes-saveratings-script/
It's pretty easy to use. Run it, hit the Save Ratings button. The ratings are copied from iTunes into a file called "ratings.xml". Copy the program and that xml file to the new machine, run the program again, and click the Restore Ratings button. All those ratings get copied into the new machine if it can find those songs on there. The song titles and artist names of the songs that have the ratings you want to transfer must be identical between the two machines for it to work though.
It also copies playcount and last played time, while it's at it.

  • Import song ratings

i have a ipod classic 80g and a ipod mini 20g (i think). both of these have different music since neither can hold everything in my itunes library, i use the song rating function often as a way of organizing things. however, i have not been succesful at finding a way to update my song ratings in itunes from my ipods. i do not know if turning autosync on would work or not since neither ipod contains the entire library. any help would be extremely helpful

Song ratings only update from the device back to iTunes if your automatically syncing your library. I'm fairly certain that iTunes itself won't sync the ratings if you switch from manual to automatic. There are programs that claim to be able to sync ratings back to iTunes but I don't have one to recommend to you offhand.

  • Is it possible to transfer song ratings from an ipod to a computer's itunes

Is this possible? I rate my songs when I'm listening to them and tend to listen to songs through my ipod rather than through itunes and was wondering if I can transfer the ratings from my ipod to my computer. Perhaps I'm missing somthing, but its really rediculous that this isn't a clear function that you can carry out.

Welcome to Apple Discussions. If you configure
iTunes to update your iPod automatically, any rating
changes you make to songs on your iPod will be synced
to iTunes the next time you connect your iPod.
I'd just like to make sure of something before I enable automatic updating. I have made all of my song ratings on my ipod, not my ITunes library. I'm asked to confirm that I want to replace all existing songs/playlists on my ipod with the ITunes library. Won't that wipe out all the existing song ratings currently in the ipod?

  • Importing star ratings from Canon's ImageBrowser

Does anyone know how to import star ratings assigned to photos
using Canon's ImageBrowser (5.8.0.10) software into Aperture?
I've tried importing a few photos with various ratings into Aperture 2.1 trial
but they appear unrated in Aperture. (Neither iPhoto nor Adobe Bridge
    recognized the ratings either.)
I've done some investigation, comparing copies of the same image
with different star settings, and it appears ImageBrowser is recording
its rating in a 'WheR' resource in the resource fork of the image file.
    Thanks

I started using ImageBrowser in 2001 (probably under OS 8.5), was underwhelmed with iPhoto's stability when it was introduced, so since I recently got a new Intel mac, I decided to investigate migrating my library of 20K photos to Aperture.

  • Problem importing song rating from WMP10

I want to import (transfer?) ratings info from 20G of music saved in Windows Media Player 10. With a fresh install of iTunes onto my Windows XP machine, it imports my library info (song name, artist, composer, etc.) except it does not import ratings info (1 to 5 stars). I spent all Summer rating my music in WMP10 - please tell me there's an automatic way to get this into iTunes. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Ref: can't import WMP10-rated music, I saved them as MP3s, figuring that would be simplest if I ever wanted to change music players (like now that I want to buy an iPod).

  • How do I stop iTunes from automatically importing songs not from a CD?

    Hey,
I downloaded a few songs from my e-mail that I received from a band and as soon as it finished, it automatically imported it to iTunes. I didn't want it to do that and it did it with every track. How do I stop it from doing that?

    Mac OS X: Double-Clicking a File Opens the Wrong Application - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2291
-= Changing the application used to open all files of a certain kind (written with reference to OSX 10.4 but may not have changed) =-
    1) In a Finder window highlight a file of the kind you want to change the application to open that kind of file.
    2) While that file is highlighted, select File > Get Info or press command (apple or propeller icon) + i to get a file information window.
    3) In the lower part of the info window there is an "open with" menu with a list of applications.
    4) If your application is already in the box then it is the default application for opening that kind of file and you don't need to do anything more.  Close the get info window.
    5) If the application showing in the menu is not the one with which you wish to open the file then select a new application. If your application does not appear there then select the "other..." and track down the application (usually in the Applications folder at the main level of the computer).
    6) If you wish to change all files of this type to open with this application in future, make sure the "change all" button is selected.
    7) Close the get info window.

  • ITunes Crashed, am trying to import songs purchased from iTunes from burned

My girlfriend just became an iPod Covert and while she was busy making custom playlists for an upcoming party, her system crashed.
She purchased several songs from the Store, and burned them to a CD. Now when she is trying to rebuild her iTunes Library, iTunes will not import her previously purchased songs.
What is the method for getting the songs back into the Library?

Well if it is an audio CD, then the purchased songs have actually...lost there protection. If you using iTUnes to import the CD you can goto edit>preferences>advanced tab>Import subtab and change the import settings from AAC to MP3, this shouldn't be whats causing the issue tho.
If you have all that set up and you try to import the CD, when you put the CD in it should show up in iTUnes as "Track 1" "Track 2" ect ect because its a personally created CD so iTUnes won't have any info to pull up about it over the net like it would if you put in a store bought CD. If you put the CD in and it shows the track names tho, one of the 2 has happened, either its actually a DATA/MP3 cd or the CD has been put in and someone as manually entered in all the info about each track

  • Synching song ratings from iTunes to iPod

Hello everyone. First time poster. Had a question..... I often have anthologies of bands or groups and I transfer them onto my ipod to listen when I work or commute because I'm rarely on my computer to listen to all of these songs> when I do this, I usually rate the song on the ipod (good or bad) and if it's bad, I usually look up the corresponding song on my iTunes and delete it from my file list and hard drive. Is there a way to sync up all of my ratings to their respective songs on my iTunes? Thanks everyone!!!!!

Hey, thanks for your response first of all.. but i'm a little unclear, when you mean the default automatic sync method, do you mean that I set iTunes to automatically transfer songs to my ipod? Cause that's actually something I don't want... I like creating my own playlists on the ipod and then transferring groups of songs into that particular playlists .
as opposed to letting itunes and my ipod start transferign a ton of songs by itself... I don't like that setting because there are songs that I'd rather not ev en put on my ipod from my computer. Hope you can help some more. Thanks again!!!!

  • Importing star ratings from PC

    Hello,
I have a "legacy" problem that goes all the way to 1999: on my PC I used to create a subfolder with the "selected" pictures from a given event (selected to be printed or posted on my website). I did that before the age of Picasa, where stars or flags can do that for you, and I kept doing it until today.
Now I want to import my whole library, and retain my selections. When I import my library in iPhoto, it simply merges the folder in a single event.
Is there a way to star or flag these pictures (either on my PC, in the Finder or in iPhoto), so I can keep my selection by event ?
    Many thanks !
    Lili

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
When I import my library in iPhoto, it simply merges the folder in a single event.
By library do you mean your set of folders and subfolders? If your photos are in multiple folders, ie folder with subfolders, when you import them into iPhoto each folder will be imported as a separate Event. The subfolders will not be linked to its original container folder. You can do that later by creating virtual folders in iPhoto and adding albums to them as seen here. However you would have to create an album for each even by dragging the Event onto the Album heading in the left hand pane. Then you can add it to a folder. Folders can only contain albums, slideshows, calendars, etc. but not photos. Album can contain only photos.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How to import ratings from C1 6 to LR5

I prefer to tether using C1 (version 6.4.2) and clients etc like to look at images on set and make selects, but when I'm back in the studio, I prefer using LR 5 for cataloging etc.
How can I import those ratings from my C1 session to LR once back at the studio (shooting to laptop, main catalogs on desktop (Macs).
    Thanks!

I'm afraid the only way to move rating from one Library to another is with iPhoto Library Manager. You cannot write ratings to a file as there is no IPTC convention for them. As your previous Library is damaged you may be out of luck.
