Importing Song(s) with Modified Name
I have just purchased an iPod Classic to use. I have previously burnt all my cds to my computer, but there were several albums/songs that the band/album/song information was not found so I added it.
When I tried importing the first group of albums I noticed that my changes were not uploaded and the information was set back to unknown.
Is there a way to make sure the names I made for my files will get imported?
If you use iTunes to change the song info for the tracks on the CD while the CD is still in the computer, before you import, iTunes will remember it next time it sees that CD.
If you change the song info for the tracks after they are imported, iTunes will not associate those changes with the physical CD.

How to import a table with renamed name
If I want to import a table from a DMP on UNIX towards my user where I already have a new version but I don't want to drop this new version 'cause I have only to move some records from one to the other, is there an import option for importing the table with another name? I mean I want to import on the same user, where there already exists the table MYTABLE, an old version of MYTABLE by impoting it with the new name MYTABLE_OLD, so afterwards I can update MYTABLE with some of old records of its old versione MYTABLE_OLD. Is it possible?
You cannot directly do this.
You can import the Table into a different schema and then rename the table.
export and import back into the required schema.

Import songs along with playlist?
It used to be that if I wanted to send a playlist of songs, in a specific order, to someone else, I could just export an .m3u file and place it in the same folder along with the song files. The recipient could simply open the folder, drag everything into iTunes or double click on the .m3u file, and iTunes would import the playlists and the associated songs along with it, in the correct order.
Ever since upgrading to iTunes 11, this no longer seems to be the case. I export a playlist as usual in .m3u, put it and the associated songs in the same folder and send away. When the recipient trys to import the playlist, the playlist and the songs all import, but the playlist is always empty.
I've tried various methods of importing - double clicking on the playlist file, dragging it and the songs into iTunes, dragging the whole folder into iTunes, importing the playlist via File -> Library, or Adding to Library. All the same result - an emplty playlist with the correct name shows up, and the songs show up in the library, but not attached to the playlist.
I've also tried all export formats (.m3u, .msu8, .xml, etc), and I've even tried changing library organization settings on both ends.
I'm sure it's something dumb on my part, but whatever it is, I haven't been able to find it.
All computers in the mix are running Mountain Lion. iTunes versions vary between 10 and 11, mostly 11 (I need it to work in 11).The M3U approach is nice, but hardly anyone uses it, and in iTunes 11 it does not even work. The way it is almost always done is to put the files in a folder and prepend 01, 02, etc.; see monthly CMJ mixtape for an example.

Importing songs created with Audacity
iTunes doesn't play or import songs created in Audacity. The songs were exported form Audacity as AIFF files. They play OK with QuickTime and RealPlayer, but not with iTunes. What am I doing wrong?
I have iTunes 6.0.5 and Audacity 1.2.4.Have you exported those files in 32 bit?
iTunes only accepts 8 and 16 bit AIFF files.
Check your Audacity preferences at 'file formats'. It may have a slightly different name, because I'm using the Dutch language version and can't see the description in English. It's the 3rd tab in the preferences.
Hope this helps.

Importing text file (with file names) into Automator.. is it possible?
Hello all,
I have been working with Windows Batch files for my line of work. I have a couple of file names in a text file (a column), which I want to copy from one folder of one hdd to another folder on a different hdd. I have been trying to do this kind of work with a Mac. I already know how you copy and rename files in automator (which isn't difficult, of course) but you have to 'select' the files in the finder first (with get specified items).
But the only way i see that you can specify items is by selecting them... is there a way to import a text file with all the file names instead of selecting all the file names manually?
or is there an AppleScript alternative which I can use to import the text file (or just copy into applescript) and run before the query's of copying and renaming the files? I am kind of new to Apple programming.
The text file looks like this:
image1.jpg
image2.jpg
etc..
so there has to be a command to: 'goto' a specific folder as well.
Thanks in advance!You can import text files, but if they are just names you will need an additional action to add the source folder path. A *Run AppleScript* action can be used, for example:
Tested workflow:
1) *Ask for Finder Items* {Type: files } -- choose the text file containing the names
2) *Combine Text Files* -- this gets the text file contents
3) *Filter Paragraphs* { return paragraphs that are not empty } -- skip blank lines
4) *Run AppleScript* -- copy and paste the following script:
<pre style="
font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
font-size: 10px;
font-weight: normal;
margin: 0px;
padding: 5px;
border: 1px solid #000000;
width: 680; height: 340px;
color: #000000;
background-color: #FFEE80;
overflow: auto;"
title="this text can be pasted into an Automator 'Run AppleScript' action">

Importing multiple albums with same name
I have two different soundtrack recordings of a movie, which I am trying to import from CDs. But iTunes 10 keeps munging the tracks into a single album and I have not found a way to keep the albums separated. I've loaded one and changed the album name by adding "Original Soundtrack". Then trying to import the other version, iTunes pops up a message about duplicate tracks and overwrites into the previous directory even when I check "Don't Replace".
I've seen a lot of questions about how to delete duplicate albums, but I can't find a way to get near-duplicates into the library. Any suggestions?iTunes uses a maximum of 40 characters for file and folder names. if the original album title is long enough they may still clash at the folder level before you add any extra text.
When the CD is sitting in your drive & before you start ripping, you can use Get Info. to edit indivdual tracks or properties for the whole album, e.g. set the Album title, complete the Album Artist field, or select Part of a compilation.
If iTunes is recognising both albums (which you say are distinct recordings) as being the same thing then perphaps your edits get stored in the local database and applied to the second album when it is inserted into the drive. You should however be able to select any particular set of tracks and give them the albun title you feel is appropriate without anything else being modified.

ITunes 9.0.2. replaced song titles with file names
I just updated iTunes to 9.0.2. When iTunes was restarted, it went through quite a long time updating my library. Then, I found the titles of some songs were replaced with their file names. This is not nice! Does anybody else have the same problem?
Did you somehow solve the problem? I have the same problem ...

Thanks.
The old rule of thumb was to keep 10-12 GB free. Any lower than that and you will start to have trouble. I was very close to that for a long time and never had any complaints. Now, Lion "encourages" 20% free space (on my newer 250 GB drive) so I try to keep it with more than 50 GB free.
Do you still have the original memory in that machine too? The metal plate you have to remove in the battery compartment also provides access to the RAM. Your machine will take 2 GB of RAM, possibly 3. You definitely want to max that out too.
Regardless, you definitely need a new hard drive. When Apple switched to PC components, they had to take a quality hit. These 2.5" notebook hard drives are not very reliable. I'm surprised your hard drive hasn't died by now. I usually get a new hard drive with every major OS upgrade. A $ 50 investment every couple of years is no big deal.
Unfortunately, you (and I) suffer from being an early adopter in 2006. Those 32-bit machines only accept 2 GB RAM (maybe 3) and are only 32-bit so they can't be upgraded to Lion. Because of this limitation, you won't see as dramatic an improvement as you would with a 2007 machine. If you run more than a couple of applications, your hard drive is always going to have to be doing some VM work. My 2006 machine has even lost its bluetooth. I gave it to my brother. My very similar 2007 Macbook is still running great.
So, you must get a new hard drive because your old one is likely on death's door. If you don't have at least 2 GB - get it. If you can't afford a new machine, you might want to consider an SSD. That might help mitigate your RAM limitations. You can spend from $ 100 to $ 350 and get a dramatic speed improvement. -

How to import songs by file name (not by song name)
Hi
I've got many files with different names yet they all have same song name (the website precisely!!!). When I import them into iTunes, all of them appear with same song name (such as www.apple.com). Is there anyway I can import them by file name as song name???
ThanksiTunes uses the id3 tags, not the file name to determine the information that is displayed. There is no way that I know of to change this. Are you saying the songs have the same title, artist name, and album name but they're different songs?
Check out Doug's Scripts. There may be something useful there.

Imported Songs with high time numbers
I have a new cd drive. When importing cd's now, the "time" listed is around 789 minutes. When I click on one of these songs, it skips over them and goes to the first "normal" timed song. Help!
Imported songs from CD have incorrect time. 5 of 12 songs were incorrect. When I insert the CD, the display times are all shown correctly. After import, the listing in my library is incorrect. The time is way off for these five songs (e.g.5:48 vs 789:57:13). I've tried modifying the stop time under get info options tab, but the library time remains incorrect. I've tried importing the CD several times with the same result.

Does iTunes update songs I imported from CD with new remixed versions?
About 10 years ago I imported many CDs into iTunes. One of those albums, released in 2002, was recently remixed by the artist and released as a separate album from the original, both still available separately, even with new cover art. Before I bought the new version I started to listen to the old one, to refresh my brain. But it was definitely playing the new remixed version. The cover art didn't change and the song files in the music folder say the songs were last modified April 30, 2003. I haven't bought the new release at all yet, so I can't think of any other way this happened. Oh, I don't subscribe to Match.
The article is to download music from your CDs to the iTunes library.
roaminggnome is right, you can only copy the music from your iPod to the computer if they're purchased form iTunes.
You may use a third-party software like senuti, ipodrip, etc.
