Importing sony Video 8 from DCR-TRV310 (DV)

I have successfully imported using this camera and firewire cable to my Mac using imovie 08 but cannot import older tapes (Video 8) Sony MP120. NO video or audio. imports were successful on Hi 8 tapes. Also imports were successful to HP computer using same camera same firewire cable. Imovie operates camera and I can hear and see on video camera playback but not on imovie8 screen

1. I could purchase a new playback device ..but if your existing one doesn't work - though I did get mine to work OK - what's the betting that "..a new playback device.." might also not work? I'd persevere with your existing playback device.
2. I could play back the analog through an ADC ..Mmm: Canopus or one of the others; I don't remember which one(s) people generally acknowledge to be the least troublesome: better search within discussions ..probably more references to them in iMovie HD 6 Discussions than here in iMovie '08 Discussions, though.
3. I could find another piece of sw to do the capture ..Yes; if your iMac is a PowerPC iMac, then downloading BTV Pro will do the job. If it's an Intel iMac, then you'd need to find something similar which is a 'Universal' application (i.e; runs on Intel Macs as well as PowerPC Macs).
4. Something else I haven't thought of ..Well; is your "playback device" so different from my Sony TRV330 camcorder? If it's not, then -p-e-r-s-e-v-e-r-e- and you may suddenly find the trick to making iMovie accept an import.
- Or, you may find that importing into iMovie HD 6 works, even if it won't import into iMovie '08.
- Or, if you can find a friend with a miniDV (or D-8) camcorder, you should be able to link the two cams with a 4-pin-to-4-pin FireWire cable, play the Analogue-8 tape out of yours into the other cam, and then import that newly-recorded digital tape into iMovie.
- Or, borrow an ADC (analogue-to-digital converter) before buying one, and see if that does work, before you splash the cash..
P.S: You say, above, in a previous post: "..5. In the event frame there's a <2 sec clip, mostly blank, beginning with some pink bars that I can't really make out and sometimes ending with the first few frames of the video. So it's trying to work, but quitting early for some reason.."
Perhaps the video has become corrupted. Try winding forwards to somewhere about 5 mins into the tape, play that in the camera and see if all looks OK, then try importing some of <i>that instead. Regions towards the very beginning of tapes often suffer stress from rewinding, etc, and often produce corrupt video after a while (..professionals never use the very beginning and end of tapes). It may be that corrupt pictures refuse to be recognised properly by the digital circuitry, which needs stable signals. See if importing from the middle of the tape works..

i have moved from a mac pro to a mac mini,
Mini now has mavericks and latest iLife stuff, I clicked import, was all good, then at end, no videos came across.
Is Mavericks,/iPhoto having a compatibiltiy issue with some video formats....???
Your help is appreciated gang.: )

Please describe exactly what you did. In moving to a new machine no importing is involved. The best way is to simply connect the two computers together and drag the iPhoto library from the old one to the pictures folder go the new one and launch iPhoto

    Hello:
I am very much a novice with Final Cut.  I am trying to import some video files from  my desktop but keep getting an error message that says, "File error  1 file recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown".  The file type is .mov, 35MB, 1920 x 1080, Codec MPEG-2 video linear PCM timecode, color profile HD (1+1+1).  Can someone help?  Thanks, Paul

You can't import MPEG-2 files directly to FCP X.
Can you play this file in Quicktime Player? If so, then you can use the free program MPEG Streamclip to convert this to Quicktime. Use the ProRes codec.

  • IMovie 10.0.1. I can not import all video's from the SD card from my SONY camera.

I have a Sony HDR-CX280 and the last version of iMovie, 10.0.1.
When i Import video's I enter the SD card in the MAc and choose "import".
I create a new event and import part of the video to that event. No problem here.
Then I import a second part of the video to a new event. This goes extremely fast, but these parts of the video remain on the camera even if the show on iMovie after import. When I remove the SD card the images disappear while mentioning: "missing camera".
When the card is put back in te MAC the images re-appear.
On the videostream there is a small videocamera icon which mentions tha the video is still on the camera and that I need to select "import media again" from the archive menu. However this option is not available.
ANyone know what to do about this?
I alread made a copy of the video file to my hard drive and try importing from there but I have the same issue.
I think it is a bug and I also think the new version of iMovie is a beta version. However I would really like to find a solutoon, so thanks for any help I can get.

    Hi,
I have tried this and came to something strange:
    - created a new library with the name imovie library 2
    - imported the video to this new library -> succesfull - video stored locally
    - drag and drop to the original library: a copy of the event is created in the original library HOWEVER this copy ahs the same issue, it refers to media on the camera and I can not see the video if I remove the SD card.
    What can I do?

  • How to import sony video on i-pad

How to import sony-cam videos on i-pad's imovie

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup).
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
You may have to force iPad into Recovery Mode

  • Storing raw sony video footage from camera

hello all...not sure if this is the correct forum. i have about 60gb of raw footage on my sony video camera internal hard drive and i would like to import on and stored it on a dvd. i would like to do this in a way that is uncompressed and is raw and imovie will read it off the dvd so i can edit it down the road. is this possible? the files are .mts. thanks in advance..

Is your footage on a camera or camcorder? iMovie can import most files from most camcorders - see this compatibility list:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3290
You'd have to import directly into iMovie (follow the directions under Help in iMovie). If you want to import it to your desktop, I'm not sure that you can do that from a hard drive camcorder (that's how I import mine, but they're on an SDHC card so I simply put that in the card reader and drag the videos to the desktop). You might want to give it a try by plugging the camcorder into a USB port - if it shows on the desktop, you can just drag the videos over. I don't think that'll work, but it's worth a try; otherwise, check the compatibility list and import the videos into iMovie. You don't have to edit them immediately.
And, if my suggestions don't work, you might want to post in the iMovie forum in order to get more knowledgeable answers.

  • Importing sony video into imovies

I am having problems seeing and therefore importing my videos from my sony Camcorder. Anyone know of any reason and what may be the solution

Have you ever imported successfully before?
I have had same problem in past, things that have helped:
Make sure camera is plugged into computer before you open iMovie, Some cameras need to be hooked up to power source to import. Make sure the camera is in play mode not record mode, then once camera is plugged into computer, try turning camera on and off, toggle between play and record, and see if it appears. try "import from camera" several times after each of these. AND it may take a few seconds to recognize the camera so be patient.
    good luck

  • ITunes 11 won't import .mov video files from external hard drive but will from internal.

    Hi Everyone
I'm having a problem with iTunes 11.0.1. I can't import .mov video files stored on an external hard drive. I can however import .m4v files from the same external drive. Using either the add to library option or dragging files from the finder.
I can add .mov files from the internal though. Strange I know.
The reason behind this posting is that I'm using iFlicks to convert my TV and movies from my external drive for Apple TV and add all relevent meta data, keeping the files on the external drive and having iTunes link to them.
I would like to be able to simply create a general iTune compatiable file using iFlicks which only takes a minute or two per file to convert. I'm currently converting them to .m4v just for the sack of being able to import them into iTunes from an external drive takes 45 minutes per file.
Has anybody else had this problem? Any ideas on a fix to allow me to import .mov files from an external drive into iTunes without copying it to the iTune library file.
    Many Thanks
    Dave

This might be worth a shot - basically seeing if Vista permissions could be the culprit.
Give yourself FULL control and ownership of the exHD, let's call it M:
How to Take Ownership and Grant Permissions in Windows Vista
Take control of the top level folder and ALL subfolders.
Try creating a new blank ITL file on M: by pressing *and holding* the shift key while itunes starts. See if you can add everything again.

  • Iphoto 6 not importing all video's from digital camera

when I import my images and video's from my digital camera, it only imports the very short video's but not the long ones and I have to copy them manually, is there a setting in preferences I can change?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Unfortunately not. This is a recognised problem with v6, and as v6 hasn't been updated since 2006 I wouldn't hold out much hope for a fix.

  • Importing a video layer from photoshop cs5 to after effects cs5

hi - you guys were so brilliant and prompt on answering my last question. thankyou
i did have another i needed help with -
is it possible to bring in a video layer from photoshop cs5 to after effects cs5 - i tried but it said "the photoshop library operation failed because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop"
    thanks again

In the import dialog box, uncheck the Photoshop Sequence option.
The problem is the number on the end of your file name.  When After Effects sees a number there, and there are other files in that directory with the same name and a number, it thinks the images are part of a sequence and will enable that checkbox.

  • Importing sony video to quicktime pro 7

I am trying to import videos from my Sony Handycam into Quicktime Pro 7 for editing and submission via the internet to a third party. Quicktime doesn't want to open the files due to an error code 2048. How can I convert the files to MP4 to see and edit them?

The files found on the camera are MPEG-2 format and QuickTime Player Pro can't even open them without additional software:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/extending/components.html
But QuickTime Player Pro isn't the tool for editing MPEG-2. It will not even extract the audio track during export.

  • IMovie 09 has trouble importing large video files from my JVC HD-40. I am trying to edit files such as these in 09. What should I do? Would buying iMovie 2011 help? I am shooting AVCHD files instead of the other mpeg2 file format.

    Hi,
I am new into the Apple Community. I have a camcorder known as the JVC GZ-HD40 US and I currently am trying to use iMovie 2009 to edit my movies. With my camcorder, I have the choice to use two different video formats: AVCHD or Mpeg2. All my videos are shot in the AVCHD (HD) file format. This camcorder also has a 120 G Hard Drive built into it. When I plug in the camcorder through USB to my MacPro, the Hard Drive of the camcorder shows up as a icon on the desktop. Many of my video clips are at least thirty minutes in length, inside the camcorder. When I try to import in iMovie my video files, it only imports around ten minutes of the video and skips to the end of the clip. I would greatly prefer to use my MacPro desktop to edit movies instead of my Windows 7 computer which seems to work fine. Is there a solution to this problem? Would the new iMovie 2011 application solve this problem? I also have the Final Cut Express to work with, and also, can't get it to work. What should I try doing?

    Hi all,
I have the exact same problem. I've just been to Thailand with my girlfriend, and we recorded a lot of stuff with my brand new Sony HD camcorder. And whenever the we ran out of camcorder memory we just emptied everything onto my HP laptop using the supplied Sony software, which produced m2ts files. When we got home, I realized that my Mac Pro/iMovie09 was not able to import this format. What a huge disappointment! Especially considering the fact that I just bought my mac back in March (my first mac ever) only for video editing and music composing (no problems with music composing, however!).
Well, I needed a solution, so last week I just bought the Voltaic HD converting software (35$), and it works great. No problems. Only thing is that my Mac Pro (quad intel core) had to work 24 hours a day for four straight days/nights in order to finish the converting job - resulting in 434 GB worth of mov-files. This is no problem as such, and the quality is great. BUT it seems rather stupid that this converting has to take place. If I use Sony Vegas on my PC, it works out of the box with my original m2ts-files. And I would really appreciate if Apple would implement a simple import function of m2ts-files in their software - one that would (if necessary) automatically convert the files to mov. Or even better: would work natively with the m2ts-files.
    Best,

I have a big video file I took on my iPhone – 4.9gb – which both iPhoto and image capture wont let me import. Any suggestions how I can import this onto my Macbook?

Perhaps try one of the apps that transfers photos and videos via WiFi between phone and computer. There are several in the App Store.

  • How can I import a video directly from a website?

My daughter was in a news segment from a local TV station that they posted on their website.  I'd like to capture it and save on my Mac.  Can I use iMovie to do this?  If so, how?   If not, how can I capture it?

No iMovie is no use for this.  There are many browser plugins that can do this, for example see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1kmAVLVCeM and other videos on the same page.

  • Import of video not from itunes

I would like to know if and how I could save and see on my ipod any video that I can get not from itunes but from other sites or for instance from a cdrom.
I thank anyone who can give me some informations about my question.

The iPod will only accept videos in MP4 format, if your videos are anything else then you would need to find software to convert them.
There's information on videos here: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/tutorial/ipgettingstartedt12.html
