Importing sound files in folders

I want to import a number of sound files organized into folders to an iPod. No, they are not commercially recorded songs and no, they do not have any information in the "album" or "artist" field. They have names that do not have a lot of meaning in plain English.
I would like to get them onto this iPod organized into the folders they are in. It would be a nightmare to try to reorganize them into "playlists" if they were all scrambled in the iTunes library and difficult for me to use from the iPod if they were not organized into the folders they are in on the hard drive. Is there some way I can do this?
I seem to have recollections of using iTunes years ago where I could drag a folder into the playlist areas and it would import the files and keep them in that playlist. Is this my imagination? Would Apple have removed functionality from iTunes?
What happens if folders are directly in the iTunes Music folder in the iTunes library?

This is great. Just what I wanted, though it is not working for me. Also, when I drag a sound file into the library, it does not import it, though it will import it if I drag it to the title bar at the top of the library or into a playlist.
Applecare thinks my application may be screwed up and wants me to re-install it. I'll try that. Incidentally, they didn't know you could do what you just told me. My sense when I call them is that they don't really know what they are talking about. In the past, I had much better experiences with Applecare.
I have been using another application than iPhoto for photos that let's me organize my photos in natural folders and adds tags to the graphic files instead of in a proprietary file so they remain completely independent of the application. Do you know if there is an application for iTunes that lets me put stuff directly on an iPod in a way it can be played without going through iTunes?
ITunes seems to be primarily a front end for the Apple Store and DRM control. I'm not even dealing with commercial music files and it all seems very baroque.

  • I can't import any files or folders into Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 projects

I can't import any files or folders into Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 projects. When I select import and then either files or folders, I am able to navigate to the drive where the media is being stored, but then when I scroll to locate the files or folders the drive disappears. This problem began as an intermittent problem, but now I cannot import any files or folders. This problem started when I upgraded my operating system to Yosemite version 10.10.2 on my mid-2010 Mac Pro running with 16 GB of memory and an ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB graphics card. Can anyone help me figure out and solve this serious problem? Thanks!

Then just drag the files/folders from your hard drive into FCP.  Don't use the IMPORT option...just drag and drop.
The problem started when you installed an OS that doesn't support FCP 7.  So if you want things to work smoothly, it's best to go back to an OS that did support FCP 7. Yosemite was written without taking FCP 7 functionality in mind, so it isn't fully functional. It might not do one thing for someone...but works for you in that respect. But then you can't do something else. The ways it doesn't work is always random.  Or it might work great for some people, because they don't use functions that might no longer work....so they don't notice it.

    HI TOM
    And Michel too!
    Thanx again my friends
Ok Tom - you're always providing such great tutorials, I thought I'd give a little back. As, I'm a little brain-dead, perhaps these screens may provide help for others also looking to bring several items into your FCE project to add to your Bin List:

  • How to import sound file created in garageband?

I am using garageband to record messages on my cell phone.  However, once I do this, I cannot figure out how to import the sound file into iTunes.

export a Quicktime file from Avid that the version of final cut you have can use, look in FCP AV set up or export for a list.

  • Importing sound file in premiere pro

I am facing a problem with adobe premiere pro
CS5. When I  import a sound file ( in this case is an
MP3 file) using Media Browser and I place it on the timeline the file does not play. If I import it using File> import then it plays fine. I called Adobe and they told me that it is a windows permission issue. I was not satisfied with their answer so now they are checking on it to find a solution. I believe I should be able to import an audio file through the Media Browser without a problem. By the way I have windows 7 pro 64 bit system and I am the sole administrator. Also If I copy the file to my desktop and import it from media browser then it plays fine. I am confused. Could anyone help me with this? Thank you

As well as being "the sole administrator" are you RUNNING the program as Administrator? (this is NOT the same!)
Right click the program icon and select Run as Administrator from the options
If that works, go back to the program icon and check the "always do this" box (not named that, not at my editing computer) so every time you start PPro you are using the Run as Administrator option (and, do the same for Encore)

  • Preloader loads very late after importing sound files

ok, here's another preloader question for you people out
there. i finally had a working preloader code, everything was in
frame 2, my preloader was in frame 1, and it worked quite nice.
however, after importing some sound files to the library my
preloader started to appear very late on the stage (like after 90
percent). could someone tell me what can i do? i'm guessing it has
something to do with "export at first frame" option.

edit: never mind, the solution at this link works fine

  • How do I import sound files to Photoshop CS5.1?

I'm trying to make a picture and then have a few animations on how to do this. I tried to open the file with PS but it says it's not the right kind of file. How do I do this?
Also, is this the newest version of CS5?
    Thanks.

That $30 is for a QT Pro license, which is what I have.
Basically, you will need some kind of movie editor. This will allow you to import audio files and export your project as a .mov file.
Since you still have not told us whether you're on a Mac or pc I will have to limit my suggestions, so for starters you could look at something you probably already have, e.g. iMovie or Windows Movie Maker, depending on your platform. You could also download free trials of programs like Premiere Elements. Or Media Encoder CC. Or just Google free movie editors, such as this one: Video Editing Software. • Importing sound files in Quicktime into Final Cut Pro

This is my first project on a new macbook osx 10.4.8, and newly installed final cut 5.1. For some reason when I import quicktime files, I'm required to render, where there shouldn't be a need. Does anyone know why, or how I can fix this? I'm not ready to render yet, I'm just starting the project and wouldn't even have enough space to store the rendered files. Help!
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Welcome to the forum!
First off, your question is a rather common one for those just starting out with FCP. It's covered very well in the manual and a simple search of the forum would have provided you an answer very quickly.
Essentially, ANY clip you place in your FCP Sequence that doesn't match your Sequence settings will need to be rendered. In all likelihood, your Sequence settings call for audio at 48lhz, 16 bit and the clip you're importing is something else. For example, CD audio is 44.1khz, 16 bit. You can usually convert most formats and settings using QT Pro. Do that BEFORE you import the file into FCP.

  • Importing sound files from itunes to ipod

I have used office for mac word notebook to record lecture audio, and then exported the sound file (.mp4) into itunes without any hassles. However, I haven't been able to drag them into my ipod when it's connected - any suggestions how I can do this?

OK so let me ask the basic question you failed to include in your post.
First question is how is your iPod set up with respect to syncing with iTunes? Is it set up to auto sync everything, auto sync only specific playlists, or is it set up to manually manage ?
Let's start with that and go from there.

  • Imported sound file fades in and out

    Captivate v5.5
    Windows 7
I create my audio using Audacity - export the audio file as MP3 and then import the MP3 file to the relevant slide using the film strip in Captivate, right click/audio/import.
On some of the slides when I play back the audio in Captivate the level drops and rises.
When I play the same file in Audacity the level remains constant and is pitch perfect.
Are there any special audio settings I should apply when importing audio this way which might be the cause of my problem?

    Hi
My first thought was that this is a hardware problem, however, it might be worth resetting the PRAM and SMC to see if the problem goes away.
If the problem persists, then you can buy a cheap sound "card" that plugs into a USB port.  In fact, this would probably give you better sound quality anyway.

  • Gb3: problems recording and importing sound file to new track

since i upgraded from version 2, i can't record or import files into new tracks, including loops! anyone experienced this or have an idea what i could try to fix it? existing files still play, but nothing new will work.

The first two things I would suggest trying, in order:
    o Repair Permissions
    o Delete GB's prefs Files
. (Search your Hard Drive for "GarageBand" and delete the files that end in ".plist" and ".cs")

  • Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer crashes when importing m2ts files

When I import my collection of images and videos using "Import / From file and folders...", Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer crashes when importing one of my .m2ts files.  When I debug it I get:
Unhandled exception at 0x1543025B (mc_demux_mp2_ds.ax) in PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe: 0xC0000094: Integer division by zero.
Is there a way for me to import m2ts files successfully?  If not, then is there a way to skip importing these files.

I do not have any version of Premiere Elements installed.
I never removed any files.  This is a clean installation from a couple months ago when I got my new hard drive.
