Importing stills - how set duration?

I'm importing a bunch of JPG still images - not a sequence. We used to be able to set the duration of each clip created, but now it seems to default to 10 seconds with no way to change? I checked out User Preferences, etc., couldn't find a way. Anybody know? - Seth Hill

Setting the Still Frame duration in FCP's preferences will only affect those images brought in AFTER you've made the preference change. To change the duration of images already in the Timeline, select all of them, right-click on one and select Duration from the Contextual menu. When the Duration adjustment window opens, enter the new duration.

Animation. How do I import still images in final cut pro x (from dragon frame) duration 3 frames pr. image? We have allready tried to set stillimages duration in preferences to 0,08 sek, but it does not have any effect!

You can drag your images to the timeline, select all, ctrl-d and set the duration to 3 frames by typing 3 and enter.
Or you can use Quicktime 7 to "open image sequence", select the desired duration, export your animation to quicktime and import that into FCP X for further editing.

    Tonaw,
If you import your still images using iPhoto, then the time you set for each still, using FCPX Perferences works.
You can set the durantion from 1 frame to as long as you want them view.
If you do not use iPhoto to import your stills, the default is 10 sec's.
FYI: This issue was brought up within a month after FCPX was released. They found out by using iPhoto, you had better control of the amount of time your still was viewed.

  • How do I set duration on stills in final cut pro as I can in iMovie by just typing seconds?

How can I set time (seconds) on stills (in final cut pro) as I can in iMovie, just by writing the time after having clickd on the still?

The duration of the selection you make when you click on a clip in the event browser is set in the FCP preferences.

  • How to set duration on multiple still images?

Is there a way to select a range of stills within a project and set the duration of them all to the same value. One can copy the image adjustments from a still and then paste that to multiple stills, but there isn't a Paste Adjustments menu item for duration.
The only way I've found to accomplish this is rather clumbsy. Copy the selected images to a new project and then with the project properties set all the durations to the same value there, and copy them back into the original project. This also limits the choices for the duration to whole seconds between 1 and 10, so if you want 1:15 we're out of luck apparently.
    Is there a better way?
Also the min. duration seems to be 0:08. Setting the duration to anything less results in the duration being set to 0:08.

AFAIK there is no easy way to set a range of clips to the same duration. The only method within iMovie I know of was the one outlined above, copy to a new project, set all in that project and copy back to original project. That works but is slow and a clumsy way to do it.
What's missing is a paste duration command and/or a setting in the dialog to set duration for the selected photos (plural since the range has yellow outlines around the thumbnails, says to me they are the selected photos).
Also the values as x:ff are not seconds. It's seconds and frames. So ff can only range between 0 and 29, thus 8.97 isn't a valid value and when I used it to set a duration the duration ended up being 11:07. I understand the 11 (90 additional frames, thus 3 seconds more) with 7 additional frames.
Apparently you can not set a duration of just a single frame in iMovie - no subliminal messages allowed I guess. (There were no transitions between the images.)

  • Default duration time for importing still images

    Hello all,
Is there an easy way to change the default duration time for imported still images?
I have thousands of images that I want to import to make a time elapsed movie. I would like for these images to have a duration of less than a second. I could do this individually, but it would take forever.
Can the default duration time for imported images be changed?
    Thanks,
    Adam

    Hi
Too long time I made anything serious in iMovie HD6 (altough a a very competent editor)
    (Took the FinalCut leap)
As I remember (just tested) it - if photos are imported then it's a tedious labor
to set duration - one at a time. No global function I can induce.
BUT - I would put my photos into a separate folder in iPhoto so that they are easy
to get in iMovie from audio/photo browser.
Then I select (in iMovie) the first photo and double click on it to view it on canvas.
Now I also get a small gray window where I can set size and duration.
    I select 01:00 (1 sec) in duration and Apply/Use.
Then I selec the rest of the photos and drag them down to TimeLine after first
photo. And they also get same duration of 01:00.

  • IMovie 11 - set duration for still pictures in project

    Hi,
I work with iMovie 11 since recently and I never had any problem with previous versions. Now I'm doing my first project in iM 11 and it just ignores my request for setting durations to still pictures.
When I set the duration in 'Project Properties' 'Apply to all photos' to 4 sec for example it will set the duration anything from 5 to 7 sec and no matter how often I change it will not react. This is very annoying. Is there anything I have overlooked?
What can I do? Thanks for help.
    thl

A transition borrows frames from the photos or video clips on either side of a transition. There is a general rule that a transition cannot be longer then half the length of the shortest adjacent clip or photo.
Also, check the setting for EDIT/TRANSITION OVERLAP.
I copied the following from iMovie Help...
Whether transitions are added to your project automatically or manually, you can set how much they overlap with the clips they’re adjacent to. This setting, which applies to all transitions in your project, affects the duration of your project.
Double-click any transition icon in your project. In the inspector that opens, choose an option from the Overlap pop-up menu:
All - Maintain Clip Range: The two clips are made to overlap by the length of the transition, and the transition is placed over the overlapping region. In this case, no additional content from clip ends is added. The total duration of your project decreases by the length of the transition.
Half - Maintain Project Duration: The transition is placed so that it spans the clips; one half of the transition overlaps each clip. In this case, additional content from the end of each clip is added to fill out the transition. The total duration of your project remains the same.

  • Best setting for importing stills in FCP

    Hi
I 'd like to import stills shot with a Canon MarkII camera (each still is HD 5616x3744) with the intent of burning a BluRay
What are the settings I should use in FCP when I import to edit and then in QT to get a QT file that I will use in Toast for BR burning.
    Thanks
    Ivan

    wikipedia
The 5D Mark II was the first DSLR to feature 1080p video recording.[8] The Canon PowerShot SX 1 IS followed with full HD in a bridge digital camera soon after.[9] The 16:9 aspect ratio portion of the sensor used in video mode is equivalent in sensitive area to a VistaVision 8/35 frame, even larger than the Super 35 frame of the much more expensive Red One camera. This large sensor allows videos to be recorded with very shallow depth of field for a "film look".
The 21 megapixel sensor is downsampled to HD resolution by only using every third line and 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, leading to concern about Moiré patterns in recorded video.

  • Import? how do i set it so in the future i will get that option after each import?

how do i delete images off  my camera card after an import? how do i get that option window after every import?

If you can see the images in Finder, select the item, control - click, and move to Trash.

Not once have you bothered to reply to an old posting to state whether the answer given was helpfull or not.
You still haven't learned to use the "Code" formatting tags when posting code so the code retains its original formatting.
Twice you've been given links to the Swing tutorial, but apparently you still haven't bothered to read it. There is a section on "How to Use Layout Mangers" that will help you postion your components. The tutorial is full of working examples.

  • Importing JPEGs produces wrong duration

I'm importing JPEGs into FCP 6.0.6 into my project. I went to User Preferences > Editing tab and set the still/freeze frame duration to 00:00:10:00 and when I import the images they come in with a time of 08:10 ???
I've tried it at 4 seconds and they come in at 3:10, then tried 1 second and it worked correctly.
Very odd, any idea what's going on?
    Thx
    Kevin

Import your jpeg and load it into the viewer.
Click on the clock icon in ULHC and set your desired duration.
    Works for me.

  • Unable to change Still/Freeze Frame Duration in User Pref Edit tab

Process-selected new project, change Still/Freeze Frame Duration in user preferences on the edit tab.
Need to change to 10 minutes. Typed in the field 00:10:00:00. When I hit ok, I get a beep and it defaults back to what was in there, 01:00:00:00. So tried a larger number 02:00:00:00. Same result. A beep.
So went ahead with project and opened a sequence and tried to change it from the viewer. Same issue.
Trashed prefs and started from scratch. Same issue.
    Ideas?

    Trashed prefs rebooted originally.
Process as follows for trashing prefs. First time through I had opened a project. This time did not.
    Open Home Folder
    Open Library
    Open Preferences
    Delete com.apple.finalcutpro.plist
Open Final Cut Pro User Data
Delete Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
    Delete Final Cut Obj Cache
    Delete Final Cut Prof Cache
Run disk utility to repair permissions.
    Reboot.
Did not open a project this time.
Same issue but now I am able to put a slug in the time line and by selecting clip properties, can set the duration (was not able to do this before so some progress). Still can't set duration though as earlier described from edit tab on the user preferences page for still/freeze duration.

Administration - Marketing -> Import, you can set a parameter value "Import mode" for what to do in case of duplication as "update existing records", "Import new records". The final report of this import is presented as a text file that can be viewed in Business Administration - Marketing -> Import -> Exceptions. Whatever the exception, including duplication import occurs during import and recorded in a text file.   What are the fields that determine the duplicity? How I can I can change those?

You will be returned anything that is in the option's value parameter. What is displayed in the dropdown and what is put in the value attribute do NOT need to be the same, so maybe you should start there.
