Importing Stills into Motion

I'm trying to import stills into motion but it's grouping some of them together as image sequences. How can stop Motion from detecting them as sequences, other than renaming them.

There's a button at the bottom right of the File Browser next to the "new folder" button. Click that to toggle off "group as image sequences".

  • NEED HELP FAST!! Importing stills into FCP 6

    Hello everyone,
I have tried searching for a bit, but time is of the absolute essence. I am down to the wire on a project, and need to do some finishing things.
What I need to do is to import still images (from DSLR) into an HD timeline. I am working in an HDV 1080i60 sequence at 29.97 fps. Here is what I am doing...
    - Import the particular image
    - Everything looks fine in the viewer when I double click on it
    - When I take it to the timeline though and open it in the canvas, it looks like absolute sh**. The colors look fine I suppose, but it looks incredibly pixelated.
I have tried exporting the video, thinking that it might just be in the canvas, but that didn't fix anything.
So, it is not a problem with rendering, as some have said where I have searched... It could be a problem with size, but I am not sure.
If anyone knows anything, please post in here or PM me asap. Thank you for your help in advance.
    Cheers,
    Ryan

When you load an image or clip from the Browser into the Viewer, it is displayed at it's native resolution. But once you place it in the Timeline, it displays at the FCP Sequence resolution. Also note that the image will need to be rendered FULLY before viewing. Go to the Sequence->Render menus and make sure all render types are checked ... especially FULL.
Also keep in mind that FCP's Canvas window only shows a proxy of full quality.

  • Importing stills into FCP 7 ( and why Im seeing interlacing) HELP!

I have just started a new project in FCP7 and I am importing stills from photoshop (tiffs) Its for the opening sequence and they need to move as in key framing.I notice that when I view them on my monitor at 100% I see a jagged line as in interlacing. My questions are...
    1. What size do I import the stills (Im working in HD and my footage later will be PAL)
2.How do I remove the interlacing...I tried de-interlacing but the images blur too much)
3.These stills are illustration images not photos and have very hard edges
Im a little new to all this....Someone told me to change my settings to proggresive (how and where do I do this?)
Any help would be great....Im good at making the film I just such at the technical stuff...thanks in advance..philip

Hard to give an answer without some background. Decisions about sequence settings depend on what yours or your client's objectives are for the movie. Where and how is it going to be shown? What other kinds of material will be edited into the movie? Has it been shot yet? Will it all be from the same kind of camera – or in a common format?
Whatever the answers to those questions leads you, select the easy setup that comes the closest to what you need. Take a video clip that has been shot at the desired format and make that the first thing that you edit into your timeline, If FCP asks you whether you want to have the sequence match the clip, say yes.
FCP has to turn whatever stills you give it into clips. If they are too large and there are too many of them your editing experience can be a real chore. If there are no keyframed moves, bring them into FCP the same size as your sequence resolution. For those that are keyframed, re-sizing in PS to about 150% is a good choice. Avoid going over 4K on either axis.
Undoubtedly, they'll look better – especially with keyframed moves – if they're in a progressive sequence. If you need your movie to be interlaced, wait until you export it and are able to judge it however you intend to display it (Web, TV, projector, whatever). If you then decide it needs de-interlacing, do that in Compressor (or maybe JES De-interlacer).
    Good luck.

  • Importing .rtf into Motion for scrolling credits

I am trying to import an .rtf file into Motion (3) to create scrolling credits for a video, but Motion won't allow me to import it.

You need to copy and paste into a text object, but I'm not sure that rtf formatting support was added until Motion 4.
I would just create them from scratch in Motion.

  • Import .swf into Motion... Possible??

Does anyone know if you can import any type of Flash file into Apple Motion?

    Short answer: sort of.
From Flash, you can export to a QuickTime movie via File > Export > Export Movie, and if you export with transparency (the "Ignore stage color" checkbox should be on) to a codec that supports it (Animation 100%) then you can bring that into Motion.
Motion doesn't seem to import QuickTime movies with Flash tracks, even if you've enabled that option in QuickTime preferences (under the Advanced tab). Final Cut Pro will import a QuickTime with a Flash track (though transparency is ignored) but when you send one from FCP to Motion, the media will be "missing".

  • Importing stills into CS6 from Photoshop CS4

I appear to be unable to import my still images from Adobe Photoshop CS4 (file types psd) into Premiere Pro CS6 and get the following error message "The importer reported a generic error".  Am I missing a very simple trick (other than having to upgrade Photoshop too!).  (Working on Windows 7)
    Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Doreen.

    Doreen,
In about CS5 (IIRC), a Bug developed, where if there was a very tiny Layer in a Layered PSD, there would be an issue Importing. I had assumed that that had been fixed, but could be wrong. Check your PSD, and look carefully in the Layers Pallet for some very small Layer. If so, can you Merge Visible (just poke OUT the "eyeball" in any Layer, that you do not want affected)?
The normal issues with PSD's are CMYK, and Color Bit-Depth, but you have RGB, and if you had, say a 16-bit Image, PrPro CS4 would have issues with that.
I have also had a few issues with Smart Objects in a PSD, and just Rasterizing those has yielded troublefree Images - however, I have also Imported Layered PSD's, WITH Smart Objects, that worked just fine - do not know what the differences were between those Smart Objects - but still, if PrPro CS 4 Imports them fine, that should not be an issue.
Wish that I had more to offer, but good luck,
    Hunt

  • How Important are ICC Profiles when Importing Stills into Premiere Pro?

    Hello,
I came across the following troubling language in a review of one of Steven Hullfish's books on Color Correction:
"I also felt as though the author neglected to give ICC profiles enough attention.
Granted, they are seldom used in pure video workflows, but there are an awful lot of folks out there compositing still images into video content who need to know how to soft-proof against the right destination space in Photoshop so they aren't surprised by the color shifts they see in their ICC-unaware video software. Surely that should merit a pull-quote of its own somewhere."
My photos have been saved in PhotoShop in the ProRes color space.  Is this going to cause unpredictablility in how my colors look when shown on a 30 foot screen?
Is Premiere Pro a type of what this author describes as "ICC-unaware" video software?
If so, what steps should I be taking?
    Thanks,
    Matt Dubuque, 100 Trees

Premiere Pro does not use ICC color profiles at all. Photoshop and After Effects do.
When you are working with non-color-managed applications, it's especially important that you preview your work and check your output on the same sort of device on which your audience will be viewing it.

  • Putting Stills into Motion

    Hi,
I have 8 still photos I want to put in motion (I am using FCP7 for that).... to be exact, move them from -400 to +400.
I put a transition between the shots to make them look smooth.
1 problem: when I run them, they jump a little.... is there a way to smoothen them out?
I tried to lower the speed in >Modify>Change Speed set to 50%, they even jigger more.
    2. when I go through the whole image, transition, next image, start motion again.
Is there a way to make something like a continious motion, so it goes through without stopping?
    That would look much better.
No idea, if that is possible and if, how.....?
    Thank you
    Dorian

I may be misreading the original post, but it sounds like you may be starting your movement at the head of each clip and ending at the tail, and THEN applying a transition. In this case, the still would remain static through each transition, then the movement would start, leaving an impression of less-than-continuous motion.
The remedy is to extend the movement through the transition. If you open the clip in the viewer after the transition has been applied, you'll see that the keyframes are no longer at the ends of the clip, because FCP has calculated in the length of the transitions as part of the length of the clip. Simply move the keyframes to beyond the used media, and you'll have the appearance of continuous motion.

  • Is there a way to Import After effect files into motion

I was wondering if there is a way to import after effects files into motion.

    hi
no there is not. The only thing you can do is to export the layers out of AE as movies and import them into Motion. Of course you are then hard baking everything and you lose control, but that would be the same if you went to any other system.

  • Importing a Quicktime movie into Motion 5: Why no video?

    Hi,
I have made a Quicktime movie from a Final Cut Pro file.  The movie plays OK opening it with Quicktime but when I import it into Motion 5 the audio plays but there is no video.  Can anybody help?
    Cheers,
    Martin

    Addtionally
What computer do you have (Type, Graphics card, OS)?
What codec did you use for the video?
Which version of Final Cut Pro (Express /7/X)?
We need more specific details to be able to help.

  • Its possible import a After effect projects into Motion 5?

    hi guys
its possible import a After effect projects into Motion 5?

No you can't do that. Unless AfterEffects can export some sort of XML, even then I doubt everything would be translated. One way is to export layers
you know won't change as movies and import them into Motion. Then just recreate the layers that you need to change.

  • Imported stills come in as sequence

Sometimes when I import stills into my AE projects they come in as normal .jpegs or .psd.  Other times they come in as Photoshop sequence images that I can't use.  There must be a preference item that will allow me to defeat that type of import, right?  Otherwise, what should I do to get around this. I have AE CS3.  Thanks for any help.

See the "Import a single still image or still-image sequence" page of After Effects Help. Note the checkbox with the red circle around it in the image on that page.

  • Importing stills at 960x540

I am cutting a bunch of stills together to simulate movement. I have to import stills into FCP at a scanned size of 960x540. Firstly can FCP accept this size or will I have to resize in Photoshop to a different size to import? Secondly If I resize these scans will they be an anamorphic image if so should I set up an anamorphic sequence?

OK. I gotcha now. Well this depends on what you will be viewing your finished product. If you will be using wide screen TV's (16:9) for example go ahead and make the sequence anamorphic. Now if you're not sure or you know that you'll be seeing it on a 4:3 screen then just letterbox it. Hope that helps!

  • Motion importing still images

I have imported a still image/logo and I want to work on the vairous layers of the TIFF however I am not given the option the import in layers? I have it as a TIFF or JPEG does this mean that I can't access the various layers, will the image be flat as a single image , I want to manipulate the layers individually.
    1. I go to file
    2. import file
at this point the file is imported but I am not given the option to import all layers
if this because it is not the correct file type?

ok so I have JPEG files and I no longer have access to the designer sadly and I want to add them into Motion and animate the layers of the composition
does anyone have any suggestions how I might achieve this goal
    1. how do I change a JPEG into a PSD file basically?
