Importing taking forever

I am new to Macs and to Aperture as well... I just got my Mac and find that when I have tried to import my first photos into Aperture, it's "loading" for extensive periods of time and I can't do any edits, even if it's just one image. Is there a step I'm missing? Does anyone know why it's taking so long?

Unsure of your question(s)
Are photos importing successfully?
Are you importing direct from a card?
Are you trying to do things while aperture is still importing or are you waiting for the import to finish?
There may be other activity occurring once the import has completed, if you look at the bottom of the browser window there maybe an indication that thumbnails or previews are being built, or go to the pulldown menu>window/show activity. If you are importing a significant number of images depending on your machine configuration and preference settings these processes may take a while.

  • Importing assets to Encore taking forever to import

Importing large (~8GB ea) mpeg videos as "timeline: assets into Encore and it's taking FOREVER. Is there a way to "link" the video clips like inDesign does with it's assets? How come it takes so long for these video clips to import, especially since they aren't even transcoded yet? It shouldn't be copying them, right? I tried saving my Encore project in the same folder as my mpeg clips hoping it would "see" them and import quicker but that didn't work.
    Thanks.

Video clips file type: Movie Clip (.mpg), 1290x720, 59 FPS.)
    Not 1280x720? And the 59 is 59.94?
Did you transcode them from something else? Or are these your source clips.
Encore prefers demuxed files (m2v and wav, for example), not mpg with the video and audio in one file.
Also, Encore must examine the file and do a type of indexing.
No, it doesn't help to try to keep the Encore folders with the assets, because Encore creates its own folders.
What does help is having the xmpses and such files that Premiere or AME would generate.
But yes, these are very large files, and it will take Encore some work to process them.

  • Okay so I just got a new MacBook and I'm setting it up. I decided to not download all of my files to iCloud drive and its taking forever to load to the next page. Is this normal for it to take so long? After all I didn't even download my stuff?

why is it taking forever to load!?

The files you are loading into the new computer are by wi-fi? If you have no other option
that may be OK but slow. A faster method would be Ethernet cable from internet router
or modem, instead of wireless. Most of the setup process can take some time.
What are these files? Where are they now?
Do you have a backup on-site, & not online?
Did you check to see if the operating system was updated as part of the setup before use?
The Software Update can locate later parts to the as-shipped system, that may be needed.
Other upgrades or new apps are through the Mac App Store, some through App Store, etc.
As part of the setup, you could use a migration assistant if you have a backup from the old
computer or have other files saved in an external hard drive to import.
Hopefully your process won't be drawn out too long...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • ADODE MEDIA ENCODER CS5 TAKING FOREVER????

    Hello
I have just noticed that AME is not encoding fast enough as it used to. I recently changed my set up to the following,
    C : Seagate Momentus XT 500GB (2.5" 7200rpm)
    D : Areca Raid Controller 1110 (3 x seagate momentus 7200rpm 2.5" Raid 0) Media Files
E/F :TB32 Raid Controller ( 2 x Seagate 3.5" 7200RPM hdd Raid 0 Partitioned) Stock footage, Media Cache and Exports
I converted my two bay workstation to  4 2.5" HDDs
The sequence I am currently exporting is 23 minutes long and is  Matrox HDV 50i, with Matrox colour correction, Magic Bullet Looks and  Adobe Auto contrast. This export is taking forever and it has just  rendered a sixth of the sequence for 2 hours 27 minutes and indicates  that 11 hours 23 minutes remains to render. CPU is not maxed out never  had such awful long renders before with my previous setting which had  only two logic HDDs.
This was my previous HDD set up
    C : Bios Raid 0 (Western Digital Caviar Green 3.5" 7200 x 2 partitioned into C & D)
E/F :TB32 Raid Controller ( 2 x Seagate 3.5" 7200RPM hdd Raid 0 Partitioned) Stock footage, Media Cache and Exports
So currently I am not sure whether I have gone for the  better or I have just worsened. I have just exported some clips with  after effects and the CPU was maxed out without any sluggish perfomance.
    SYSTEM
    HP XW6600 Win 7 Pro 64 bit
    Dual Xeon 5450 3ghz (8 virtual cores)
    32 GB RAM
    GTX 285 2GB GPU
    Matrox RT X2
    Areca 1110
I have got lots of jobs coming up and perfomance has become of paramount importance. I am considering RMA of the 2.5" HDDs here, don't know what to do really? Check out this picture which shows the perfomance I am suffering here.

You need to establish if this is AME or Matrox.
Place your project in a non Matrox project and render again.
Mind you Looks and auto contrast take a lot of rendering.
Best is to ditch the auto contrast and use the Brightness and Contrast.
Effects with auto tend to make a mess of you video.
What preset did you use i find your settings somewhat odd.
I copied all the footage in the matrox timeline and pasted it into HDV timeline. There was no change, the render speed is just the same. The first clip in this sequence is a quicktime mov file 1920 x 1080 (Opening sequence 30 sec long no effects), AME renders this one faster than real time and max out the CPU to over 95%, but when it hits the main content with the filters, the CPU usage drops tremendously. This happens on both matrox and HDV sequences, which leaves with no alternative but to think that the slowness render issue lies with the Red Giant plugins.

  • Projects on one drive taking forever to load /conform, while projects on other HDDs are fine

Hi guys, I'm at a bit of a loss here.
    I have a Core i7 Win 7 ultimate 24gb ram running premiere cs5.03
I have a ssd drive for os and progs (C), and then 4 other identical 2tb drives for projects. (D,E,F and G)
I have about 8 projects per drive, all the same thing (wedidngs)
I have my last wedding of 2011 to get edited, and it is on the F drive.
I dump all the folders into the project window, but the conforming stage is taking FOREVER (3+ hours and I gave up, an average wedding all the files conform in a few minutes)
The file types are h264 .mov from canon DSLRs by the way, but I have discovered that it must he a problem with my F drive.
At first I thought it was settings issue with CS5 (media cache folders etc..), so I tried changing the media chache drives etc... but nothing helped
Then I tried to open a previous CS5 project that was on the F drive (a project I completed just one week ago) and it just hanged on the loading screen (20 mins and I gave up)
It is strange as the drive isn't nearly full, plenty of space on it (in fact my E drive is nearly full but I can still open all the projects on taht and they load up in the normal time frame)
Nothing else is on the drive, just project folders, the same size and type of projects that re aon all of my other drives, they all work fine, but now all of drive F seems 'corrupted'?
So it seems I have a problem with my F drive (D, E and G are all fine)
I don;t know what the problem is or how to identify it.
I am currently doing the error checking process then I will defrag.
The bizarre thing is, nothing has changed, last week everything was fine, this week I have a problem with that one drive.
I've read online that it helps to have separate sratch disks for video, audio, previews etc...
But with my yearly workflow, it is better for me to just have the whole project (video, audio, previews etc..) on the same folder in the same drive.
This has worked great for the past 6 months, but all of a sudden, any old projects on the F drive hang on the loading page, and any new projects take more than 3 hours to import / conform?
I've tried my best to explain the problem but reading it back my description does seem a bit all over, I guess that's becuase my mind is all over the place due to this problem!
It's my last wedding from 2011 and I cannot get the project started (been at it all day, havent got any editing done, just trying to solve this)
So if anyone has any tips or advice on how to identify the problem, confirm if it is a HDD issue or premier issue (I think HDD as all other projects on the other drives are fine) I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks
    James

I was just looking back at my copy of the drive and I was able to save 110GB of data
For some reason I think I might have missed some but its to late now since the drive will not spin up anymore.
If you do go this route make sure to do it all at once.
I think I might have waited between tries but can really remember, it was a long time ago and I try to keep better back-ups now.

    Hi Glenn,
Thanks so much for your responses,
"I then froze the drive and as soon as I took it out started copying the files to a new drive.
Running CPU-Z or Speccy I could monitor the temp of the drive.  As the temp went back up the speed of the drive slowed till I could not copy any more.  I just repeated and kept going till I got all the data off.
I still have the drive but even freezing cant geet it back up and running now.
Its not a good meathod since it will ruin your drive but its free and might work."
Sorry I ma not reallt sure on the internal worksings of HDDs, can ask you to explain what this is?
    Thanks again for your help

  • H.264 - Taking forever to encode?  What's wrong?

I have captured some video of my desktop using iShowU, which basically makes a Quicktime of everything that happens on your desktop including a mic input. I used the Apple Intermediate Codec to capture the material. The size of the vid is 1900 x 1250 (75% of the full size 30" display desktop).
I imported this recording direct into FCP and did some quick edits, now I'm trying to export them using compressor as quicktime files that will be distributed on a CD.
The export happens and the final quality is fine, but the export is taking FOREVER. I've done video editing before and this seems way too long to export. Here are the specs...
    - It is taking about 15 minutes to export 1 minute of video. This is way way way too long.
    - I'm running a new Mac Pro, 2.66 Quad Core, 5GB of Ram with high speed drives - this machine should scream through this encode job. Activity monitor is showing about 130% processor activity from Compressor, and another 90% or so from Final Cut Pro. I think it should peg the processors a bit higher than that.
Here are the exact settings I'm using in Compressor:
    Name: Test 1 QuickTime Movie
    Description: No description
    File Extension: mov
    Audio Encoder
    IMA 4:1, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz
    Video Encoder
    Format: QT
    Width: 1900
    Height: 1250
    Pixel aspect ratio: square
    Crop: None
    Frame rate: (100% of source)
    Frame Controls:
    Retiming: Nearest Frame
    Resize Filter: Nearest Pixel
    Deinterlace Filter: Line Averaging
    Adaptive Details: Off
    Antialias: 0
    Detail Level: 0
    Field Output: Progressive
    Codec Type: H.264
    Multi-pass: On, frame reorder: On
    Pixel depth: 24
    Spatial quality: 74
    Min. Spatial quality: 25
    Key frame interval: 24
    Temporal quality: 50
    Min. temporal quality: 25
    Fast Start: on
    Brightness And Contrast
    Brightness: 6.600000
    Contrast: 11.600000
I am running that one Bright/Contrast filter, but that shouldn't take up that much extra power should it? Surely I have something wrong here. The export frame rate, size (pixel demensions) and everything else are exactly the same as the source material from what I can tell.
I'm going to have about 15 total hours of footage to export and from what I can tell using these settings - that's nearly 10 straight days of encoding, and that ain't gonna' work.
    Thanks!!!

H.264 is much slower codec than many other ones.
And, at those giant frame sizes, it wouldn't
surprise me to see such long encode times.
More than six hours ago, I took four short (six minutes or so each) Flash video files to Compressor 3 and sent this batch to transcode to H.264. The first clip went off merrily and the Activity Monitor showed 145% activity of the CPU. It was done in 13 minutes, the second ckip took 14 minutes and the remaining two clips are still there with very little progress in transcoding. The Activity Monitor shows from five to 10 per cent Compressor usage of the CPU.
This is definitely not due to "giant frame sizes". Somewhere along the way Compressor 3 slowed down dramatically.

  • Why is it taking forever to export a short video?

    hi everyone,
currently pulling my hair out trying to export a 13 minute video i recently made. By choosing the option youtube simply took 24 hours or more to reach 6% of completion. After watching a youtube tutorial on the compressor i spent £35 on buying it in order to compress my video once i had exported it. The tutorial advised me to bounce my project off as a master file to import into compressor and upload the compressed version on to youtube. The master file option is also taking forever to export from FCPX. Please can someone tell me what im doing wrong,
    Mitchell.

What are your system specs? Where do you store your projects and events (libraries, if you're on 10.1)?
What kind of media are you working with – the formats of both your video and audio clips? Does the project use a lot of photos?

  • HT1386 Syncing taking FOREVER

why is it taking forever to sync my ipad? its been syncing for about 45 mins I cant eject or anything is it ok to disconnect from computer??

    You're welcome.
    You won't lose everything.
All iTunes content on your iPhone - all music, movies, tv shows, and 3rd party apps should be in your iTunes library on your computer.
All photos and/or videos in your iPhone's Camera Roll should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. Did you read the info included with the link provided? If so, have you imported all photos and/or videos from your iPhone's Camera Roll followed by deleting the photos/videos from the Camera Roll after the import process is complete? If so, any change with your iPhone's backup time after doing so?
Contacts, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks are designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer, so none of this data will be lost either.
If your iPhone's Camera Roll is empty and no change with it empty, you can try deleting the existing backup followed by manually creating a new backup. Go to iTunes > Preferences and under the Devices tab select the current backup followed by selecting Delete.
With your iPhone connected, right click on your iPhone under Devices in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Back Up to create a new backup.

  • Yikes, 5 minute video taking forever to load on drop-in

I have a 5 minute video shot in HD at 1920 x 1080.  I have compressed the video to only 27MB because I am really only using the video as a guide to the graphics so it doesn't matter if the video looks bad.  I will not be using the video part in the end, only the graphics I create around it.  Basically, I am using the video as a timeline both video palcement and audio placement.
I imported the video and dragged it down the the "new comp" button to make sure the sizing is set properly at 1920 x 1080.  Now it seems to be taking forever for the video to "load".  It's only moving in slow-mo and I still can't hear any audio.  I know I have to use the preview controls to hear audio but still nothing.  Sometimes i can hear audio but then no video, although neither is actually working.
Is my computer too weak to handle this file?
    I am running an HP, AMD Athlon 64 x 2 Dual core processor 6000 + 3.00GHz, 3.00GB, 32-bit OS.  Is that enough?
What is the best way to load  large video files so you can actually work with them (audio and video) without the stops and starts?
    Thank you!

Rudy: Without knowing the details, it's important to point out that some extremely compressed video formats are meant for distribution/playback, not to be used in production. They could be much harder to decode tan the original video file recorded by the camera (again, not knowing what kind of camera). In fact, the overall file size or data rate for a video file is not directly related to how heavy it is for an application to lift it, sort of speak. Simply try using the original. But it would be useful if you post what format the original is, and also the compressed file.

  • After installing SP3 for BO XI R1 - Crystal Reports taking forever to run.

    Hello,
We are running BO XI R1 SP3.  Ever since installing SP3 a number of our scheduled Crystal Reports are taking forever to run.  The Business Objects server resources are okay, CPU never really gets above 50% so I figure perhaps it's our SQL Server.
We run SQL 2005 and CPU on that hovers around 30%, we've got 4 2.6GHz CPUs with 16GB of RAM.  Looking in SQL Server activity monitor the reason the reports are taking some time is that the wait types are generally CXPACKET.
For example a report used to process in a minute however after installing SP3 the report now takes several hours.  Since we've 4 CPU's on our SQL Server activity monitor creates four sessions for the report to try and process it in parallel.  However all of those four sessions have a wait type of CXPACKET.  This I understand is related to parallelism and people have said to reduce that so nothing runs in parallel.
However I should not have to do that as things used to run just fine, there is no physical reason (i.e. RAM / CPU / HDD) that reports are locked waiting in SQL server.  Has anyone else had this issue or have any suggestions on how to fix please?
    Kind regards,
    Chris Rutherford

XIR2 has two different redistributable MSI packages.  One is compatable with 1.1 framwork applications and the other is compatable with 2.0 framework applications.
try downloading the SP3 MSIs from [here|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100009656792008E/crxir2sp3_net_si.zip]
    this will have both MSIs
    - CrystalReports11_5_NET.msi          (for 1.1fwk applications)
    - CrystalReports11_5_net_2005.msi   (for 2.0fwk applications)
rename the CrystalReports11_5_net_2005.msi to CrystalRedist115_x86.msi and replace the existing file in the Bootstrapper folder path
Uninstall the last install, rebuild and try your Click-Once install again.  This time you should have the 11.5.3700.0 runtime.

  • My ipod touch is takeing forever to update to IOS 5.01

i have an ipod touch and its a 4 gen and i have a new computer and it realy fast but my ipod update is takeing forever to update i have done everything i even changed some internet setting it still takes forever please help me. ,Thank you

If your iPod does not have camera it is a 3G iPod. Those can only go to 5.1.1. Its hardware does not support a higher version.
As other have said, a 4G (first one to have cameras) can only go to 6.1.6
A 5G can go to the current 7.1.2
To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

I just downloaded Security Update 2014-002 and my Mac Mini is taking forever to restart after the download and installation process finished. I'm running the latest version of Mavericks and my Mac is stuck on restart! What should I do?
    Need help! Thanks.

Tap the space bar on your keyboard once. The dispaly may be sleeping.
The first restart after the update here was longer than usual but I restarted one more time, it was back to normal boot time.
After the restart, open the App Store then select Updates from the menu.
It should say:  Verio 1.0 Installed Apr 22, 2014
