Importing Text file in to iTunes with song and artist names

A friend made a compilation CD for me. He exported the artist and song names in to a text file from iTunes. I am having trouble importing the information in to my itunes. The people at the apple store said that it was not possible and that I would have to import his whole iTunes library.

Hi Dennis,
In order to import flat files into MDM do the following. This solution is specific to MS Windows:
I. Set up ODBC for *.txt or *.csv files
1. Open Data Sources (ODBC) interface:
Start> Settings> Control Panel--> Administrative Tools -->Data Sources (ODBC).
2. Select System DSN Tab in Data Sources (ODBC) interface.
3. Click on [Add]. Select the Microsoft Text Driver. Click Finish.
4. Write a Data Source Name
5. Uncheck Use Current Directory to enable the [Select Directory] button.
6. Click on [Select directory] to determine the source directory.
7. Select the source file.
8. Click [OK] and return to the ODBC Text Setup screen.
9. Click [OK].
10. Return to the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog and click [OK].
II. Importing from Flat file
1. Run MDM Import Manager.
2. Select ODBC from the Type drop-down field of the Connect To Source dialog.
3. Enter the DSN name from the Setup ODBC Connection dialog above.
4. Select the file name with extension (.csv or .txt) in the Tables panel of MDM Import Manager and the file content in the Records panel.

I was successful to create and run the following interfaces p and q
1. Drag text file a to a newly created interface panel p
2. Filter text file a : a.status = ‘active’
3. Lookup text file a to text file b : a.staffCode between b.staffCodeStart and b.staffCodeEnd
4. Drag oracle temp table c to interface panel p
5. Set c.staffCat : CASE WHEN b.staffCat IS NULL THEN a.staffCat ELSE b.staffCat END
6. Set c.data : a.data
7. Drag oracle temp table c to a newly created interface panel q
8. Drag oracle table d to interface panel q
9. Set UK to d.staffCat
10. Set Distinct Rows to table d
11. Set d.staffCat = c.staffCat
12. Set d.data = SUM(c.data)
However, the interface q should be more than that:
If c.staffCat is between 99 and 1000, then d.data = the last record c.data; else d.data = sum(c.data)
Would you please teach me how to do the LAST or SUM steps? Moreover, can interface p and interface q be combined to one interface and do not use the temp table c? Millions thanks!

Song and Artist Name does not display in MiniPlayer

iTunes 11.0.0.163. In MiniPlayer, Song and Artist Name only appears when i play chinese songs, English names does not appear.

Importing text file (delimited, fixed width) with MDM Import Manager?

Hello all,
According to the overview section of the import manager reference guide, it is possible to import from delimited text files (e.g. CSV).
But when it comes to the details, text files are not mentioned anymore. I also found no option in the Import Manager.
Could you tell me whether this is possible and - if it is - how?

The song and artist name on my itunes is different to what it is on my iphone.

Ever since I've updated to the new itunes, I've encountered an annoying problem. When I change the song name by right-clicking on the song and clicking 'get info' and changing it that way, the changes don't apply to my iphone. Why is this?

You have skype or anything? Easier to chat and explain lol. Ill try my best tho. Pretty much for the songs that are not working for you,remove(delete) from iphone-music. Make sure to then file add to libary select the songs, then go to the very top right "Library" below says music, click it, which then find the songs you just readded, right click get info, change the artist name, song name etc. What ever you need changed, then apply(ok), select the file(s) drag to the iphone/ipod - music. Should appear on iphone as it does on itunes.

After the update to iTunes 12.0.1 I cannot change the song names or info. I can look at it but it will not let my type it in. I have some songs that are missing information and would like to edit them so that I have the artist name and song title. Help?

Importing text file (with file names) into Automator.. is it possible?

I have been working with Windows Batch files for my line of work. I have a couple of file names in a text file (a column), which I want to copy from one folder of one hdd to another folder on a different hdd. I have been trying to do this kind of work with a Mac. I already know how you copy and rename files in automator (which isn't difficult, of course) but you have to 'select' the files in the finder first (with get specified items).
But the only way i see that you can specify items is by selecting them... is there a way to import a text file with all the file names instead of selecting all the file names manually?
or is there an AppleScript alternative which I can use to import the text file (or just copy into applescript) and run before the query's of copying and renaming the files? I am kind of new to Apple programming.
The text file looks like this:
image1.jpg
image2.jpg
etc..
so there has to be a command to: 'goto' a specific folder as well.

You can import text files, but if they are just names you will need an additional action to add the source folder path. A *Run AppleScript* action can be used, for example:

Error importing text file into SQL Server when last column is null

Hello all. Happy holidays!
I'm trying to import a text file into a SQL Server table, and I get the error below when it gets to a row (row 264) that has null in the last column. I'm guessing the null jumbles up the delimiters somehow. The nulls are not errors, and I need to import
them into the table with the rest of the rows. Any idea how I can do that?

[Flat File Source [1]] Error: An error occurred while processing file "ABC.txt" on data row 264.
[SSIS.Pipeline] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PRIMEOUTPUTFAILED. The PrimeOutput method on component "Flat File Source" (1) returned error code 0xC0202092. The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput().

that there is data type mismatch issue between the input columns and the output columns.
Based on your description, the issue is that you trying to convert a column contains empty value from string to integer data type for the output column "XYZ" in Flat File Source [1]. Please note that we cannot type an empty value as integer data
type column value, so the error occurs.
To fix this issue, just as you did, we should convert the data type for the output column "XYZ" in Flat File Source [1] back to DT_WSTR or DT_STR, then use a derived column task to replace the current column (UBPKE542). But the expression should
be like below:
LEN(TRIM(UBPKE542)) > 0 ? (DT_I8)UBPKE542 : NULL(DT_I8)
In this way, the data type of the column in SQL table would be int, and the empty value would be replaced with NULL.

Importing text file into search and redact window.

I am in the search window under the search and redact tool. I
am trying to import a file that was originally an excel to populate the
search multiple words window. I read that text files can be imported. I saved the file as a text file but it does not import. I can import an adobe file but this gives me a list with a bunch of junk. What am I missing?

The dialog imports text files.
Make sure that the file you are importing is a text file and has one word in every line.

Import Text Files Into Apple Notes?

Is there a way for me to automate importing text files into Apple Notes? I can certainly do this manually via copy/paste, but have over 700 files to transfer.

Automator is Apple's simple way to do tasks like this, but Notes app doesn't have any actions for this so I assume you need to use Applescript to do this. Double check Automator - I am on 10.9 & maybe 10.10 added support for Notes in Automator? Enter 'Note' in the search field to see if Automator can make new Notes.

See the "Create New Stylized Note" script <- click script icon to download it, copy & paste seems to fail because of how the browser displays characters.
You would need to adapt that script to import from the text files.
I'm not sure you really want to do that anyway - Notes app has such poor support that putting serious data into it looks like a mistake - how difficult will it be to export data when Apple eventually abandon it? It seems like a toy app to me for new iPhone users, it;s unclear if it will ever be able to compete with other options. There are third party apps to export from Notes.app, but why rely on third parties? A notes app should allow you to import & export your data!

Sorry to sound so negative on Notes.app, it's OK but I don't think its the best place to put over 700 notes.

Match backs up your music in iCloud, it does not remove it from the phone. It still needs to be on the phone if you want to listen to it.

In the Search box click on the black Arrow and UNTICK the Search Entire Library.
Then the Search results in Songs view will be displayed in the main Grid and you can sort them by clicking on the column headers.

You have a couple of options for transferring your music library from one computer to another. First, you can download all of your music that is stored in the cloud on iTunes Match by following the instructions on this page:

You can follow steps listed in the section right here:
Play or download songs from iCloud
You can play songs directly from iCloud, or you can download songs so you can play them when you’re not connected to the Internet.
If a song is available in iCloud, it has a Download button next to it.
To play the song, double-click it.
To download the song, click the Download button.
After you download a song to a computer, it remains in the computer’s iTunes library, even if you turn off iTunes Match.
To only display downloaded songs in your iTunes library, choose View > Hide Music in the Cloud. This also hides any previous iTunes Store purchases you haven’t downloaded.
For information about downloading and playing songs on an iOS device, see the documentation for the device.
In order to make it easier to download all of your music, you can highlight all of the songs in your iTunes Match section and then click download, as mentioned in these instructions.

Hopefully you left Apple your contact info (name phone #, email address).
Apple would simply pass your contact to the last registered owner. It would be up to the owner to contact you. As Dave mentioned, Apple will not give you any info (except may to tell you it was or was not registered, but not to who). Turn it on once in a while and maybe they have activated FindMyiPad and a message will pop up (don't need to be logged onto the iPad to a message).
