Importing .tif files in indesign CS2

Hi all!!
If there are 200-300 pages in Indesign and if I wanted to import the pages in .tif extension to Indesign,I am currently using the Adobe's ImageCatalog.jsx script.But I have all the pages in the server foler i.e the 'W drive is the server drive and it does not show up in the dialog box when the script is run using ExtendScript toolkit. Can anyone help in changing the code below to add the server drive in the dialog box so that I can access all the pages in that drive.I would be grateful if anyone could help me in fixing this.

Select Include All to allow movies, sounds, and buttons to be interactive in the exported PDF file. Select Appearance Only to include the normal state of buttons and the video posters as static elements."
I cannot seem to find this menu, the only one I can find is Buttons & Forms and when I open this all of the options are graded out.  Please see the screen grab below...

  • Importing .mov files to InDesign CS2

    I am trying to import a H.268 or Mpeg .mov files into InDesign CS2 and every time I select the file, I get the following message pop up:
    "Error: Cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation"
    When I check the 'Interactive Options' the options such as 'Movie Option' or 'Sound Option' are graded out, so that I cannot select them.
    When I google the Error message, people posted articles saying that you had to set the PDF options, but I cannot find this. I have look at the general preferences section, but there is nothing for movies.  I also looked at the 'Configure Plugins' section, and 'Media.Framework' plugin is locked, but I am not sure what to do.
    Please help as I need to get this finished in the next 24 hours and cannot make this work!

  • Can no longer import Word files into InDesign

    Hello,
    For many months I have been importing Word files into InDesign CS3 (Mac OSX 10.4.11) with no trouble, but I started having a problem yesterday.
    When importing a 17-page Word file with 16 footnotes, I got none of the text and only the footnote numbers. This is what I get in InDesign:

    These are the things I've tried already: restarting, deleting preferences, changing the import options, using CS2, importing someone else's Word file, importing a Word file that I imported successfully a couple of months ago. None of this works.
    It has been suggested that I save the Word file as rtf, but since I have 200 files to import and I'm using Word's character styles for italics, bold, small caps, etc., I'd rather try to fix this problem.
    Can someone help?

    I am using indesign CS2 and i'm trying to import a Word document into a new chapter for a book i'm laying out. it's about 30 pages, but there are at least 80 foot notes. i'm able to get about 1/2 of the document with the footnotes to flow correctly, then EVERYTHING disappears. the only way i've been able to get the remaining text to appear is by adding characters to the text. i'll hit "vvvvvvvvvvvv" a bunch of times and "magically" a little chunk of text and it's footnotes appears. then the ole disappearing act happens. so i do it again. i'm able to get all the text to appear finally, but when i delete the "vvvvvvvvvv" from the places i inserted them, the text disappears again. i have no idea why this is happening or how to fix it. any ideas?

  • Can't open Pagemaker files in InDesign Cs2

    In the past i could usually open any Pagemaker 6 or 6.5 file in InDesign CS2. However this doesn't work anymore. I get a message o the screen telling me the file is corrupt and can't be opened. ( i can't really post the original message i get as it is in german).
    This happens for any Pagemaker 6 or 6.5 file i have in my repository (and there are still many left so i had tried several ones from different dates and PM Versions)
    As a first aid I tried to reinstall InDesign CS2 from the original discs. I uninstalledit before and did a restart of the Machine before i reinstalled it.
    I use a Windows XP baesed system.
    Does anyone have any idea on what i could try to get that back to work?

  • Saving InDesign CS4 files for InDesign CS2

    I'm about to upgrade from CS3 to CS4 but have a client who needs to open documents I create InDesign CS2. I've been saving files for this clients in CS3's interchange (.inx) format, which has worked fine. But CS4 .inx files will only open in CS3. One work around I found was on TUAW (http://www.tuaw.com/2009/05/08/tuaw-tip-saving-indesign-cs4-files-for-indesign-cs2/), which suggests opening the .inx file in a text editor and changing the version number. The resulting file should then open in CS4. I was wondering if anyone has tried this (with or without success) or has any advice on saving CS4 docs for CS2? Thanks very much!

  • Open PMD 7 files in Indesign CS2

    I used to be able to open my Pagemaker 7 files using InDesign CS2 - but now get a mssg saying the files are damaged (they're not since I can still open them in PM). Any ideas?

    Should be a Windows Update link in the start menu, or just go to the Microsoft site and I'm sure you'll find a link. Use Internet Eplorer -- for some reason Windows update seems incompatible, at least for me, with FireFox.
    Also, to avoid this problem in the future you need to go into your Automatic Update settings (Control Panel > Windows Security Center > Automatic Updates) and switch from Automatic to Dowload updates and let me choose when to install. After you do that you'll see a notifier in the system tray when there are new updates. One more thing you need to do is when you click on updates (and this is true in Windows Update online as well) switch from Express Install to custom so you can deselect the stuff you don't want (like SP3, if you want to open PM7 files in ID CS2). After you deselect an item or items and say ok, you'll see a warnign dialog that has a checkbox for "don't show me these updates again" and you should check it for SP3 in particular.
    I don't know what it was in SP3 that updated to Vista code. I've been accepting all security patches and individual Windows patches without the service pack (I rolled back, myself), and I can open PM files fine.

    InDesign can't open FreeHand files, regrdless of the

  • Import word files in InDesign but only Form Text or selected styles

    Hi Guys,
    I have this magazine I design a few times a year and the articles are sent to me as word-files with tables they have to fill in in order to know who the author is, what the title will be etc.
    I would like to find a way to easily import the content of their articles etc. in Indesign and I found out that importing Word files is simple as goodbye. Me happy!
    But now I constantly have to copy-paste their article text out of the table and paste it elsewhere in the InDesign file, so I thought: isn't there a possibility to, while importing the word file, select what styles should be imported (so that the instructions I put in the template for their word articles for instance won't be put into the InDesign file but only the forms they fill in) or can I setup the importing of it to only import the form field text (if the word file would be set up as a form with protected items fields they can fill in?).

  • Suddenly getting "Missing Plug-Ins" errors when opening .indd files in InDesign CS2

    I have a PC running Windows 7 and InDesign CS2. The laptop's installation of Windows was corrupted and I had to re-install the OS. I backed up all files, reinstalled the OS, and then reinstalled applications. One of those applications was InDesign CS2. However, after the installation of CS2 on the fresh copy of Windows, I noticed that I have trouble opening most, but not all, of the InDesign files on my hard drive.
    When I try to open a .indd file I see an error message pop up that says "Missing Plug-ins. LILO.APLN, DYNAMICDOCUMENTS.RPLN, CONDITIONALTEXT.RPLN" and three more. Under that list of missing plugins is the warning "This document uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently available on your system. Do you want to open anyway?"  If I click "okay" I then am met with another dialog box that says "Cannot open file. TEXT.RPLN, LAYER.RPLN" and on and on for about 60 more items.
    I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING! I've searched around concerning this issue and it appears the consensus is that the file was opened by a newer version of InDesign. That possibility is, in fact, an impossibility. Never have I used a newer version of InDesign. The files that I am working on were backed up, stored on local storage and not touched once before reinstalling the OS and reinstalling InDesign CS2.
    I also noticed that not all InDesign file formats were associated with InDesign in "Windows Programs and Defaults." I changed those to look to InDesign. I've also uninstalled InDesign CS2 and re-installed.
    Not all InDesign CS2 files are exhibiting this behavior. So far, it appears more than half are, but some can be opened with no problems. There seems to be no correlation between which ones are able to be opened and which ones can't be opened.
    What could have happened to these files and is there any possibility of opened them again? Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

    Conditional Text was a new feature in CS4. I'm thinking, can you explain how your old CS2 documents became aware of it?

    I'll give that a try today. Even an affirmative judgement that the files are newer than CS2 would not impress me however. The fact remains, the files were copied off one hard drive over to another, the plug was pulled on the hard drive, the PC was re-imaged, CS2 was reinstalled, the files were copied back over... and whammo.

    To import the Excel file I have created several tables always using styles (table, cell, paragraph).
    The problem born when I make a correction into the file Excel and I update the link in Indesign.
    The text updated automatically bring a caracther style (the first that I have created).
    I don't want to apply any character style, but I want to maintein the paragraph style that I have applied.
    If I delete all caracther styles the problem is solved, but I need to have caracther styles in my layout.
    Anyone can help me?

    The import facility of Excel or Word Document is only on a PC system of Dreamweaver.
    File >> Import >> Excel Document
    File >> Import >> Word Document
    For mac system I understand this facility isn't there.  What can you do about this?
    1) Get hold of a PC and download a trial version of DW and import the file(s) and you are done;
    2) Ask a friend to do it for you;
    3) Post your excel file online and some nice guy like Nancy, john or Murray will help you out.

  • What is the best way to import Freehand files to InDesign?

    Has anyone developed a fast workflow to convert Freehand files intact to InDesign CS3?
    Illustrator CS3 will import Freehand files directly, but from there I cant bring editable and formatted text into ID CS3. Formatted text is converted to paths via the clipboard. This is incredibly frustrating.
    Till recently I used "Copy Special" within Freehand MX which allowed a reasonably useful way to copy graphics and fully-editable and formatted text across to ID. This is too slow for multiple FH pages however.
    Adobe have provided a useful tool to open Freehand files via Illustrator but why on earth didnt they see that many Freehand files are set up as page layouts and are better placed into InDesign?
    Any constructive ideas or successful workarounds most appreciated. Thanks. JETNZ

    Freehand was never "just" an illustration program. And for many people, it was the "only" page layout program available.
    b Freehand had a huge following in Israel
    where it was the first multi-page program that allowed people to set type in Hebrew (right to left). For small documents (I always put a limit of 20 pages), Freehand was a terrific product.
    b Freehand has a huge market share in South Africa.
    During the years of apartheid, many American companies, including Adobe, honored the boycott of doing business in South Africa. Macromedia chose not to honor the boycott. Therefore Freehand became the only program available. I don't justify the decision to do business in SA, but it explains why people used Freehand.
    Apart from market share, there were also many legitimate reasons to use Freehand as a page layout program:
    b Freehand had a "wrapping" tab feature
    that made it unnecessary to put tabbed text into separate boxes as Quark and PM required. This wrapping tab is still unique to Freehand and would be a bonus in many word processing and layout programs.
    b Freehand has different sized pages
    in the same document. How many times have I heard people ask for such a feature here? Yet Freehand has it where Quark, PM, and ID don't.
    b Freehand has some of the most advance selection tools
    in the business. I'm thinking of the ability to select items within a range of stroke weights as well as other attributes. Again neither Quark, PM, or ID have such a feature. And even Illustrator, which has a "Magic Wand" selection tool can match Freehand's selection dialog box.
    There are other features, but I don't need to go into them.
    However, I do agree that Macromedia did not give Freehand the time and attention it needed to do well in today's market.
    The code is ancient.
    The output to PDF directly from Freehand is stuck back on Acrobat 5.
    Some of the transparency features are not what we consider true transparency.
    And so on.
    But to just lump anyone who uses Freehand into a category of not professional is wrong.

  • Error Message Opening PageMaker file in InDesign CS2

    I'm using Windows Vista with Adobe CS2, the educational version.
    When I try to open any previous Pagemaker files 6.5 and earlier, I get an error message that says the Pagemaker file is seriously damaged and cannot be opened. It happens with all PageMaker files I try to open.
    This is a new HP computer and I used to have PageMaker 6.5 and InDesign CS 1.5 working fine on the old computer. Do I have to have PageMaker installed on this computer? I've tried clicking on the file to open it and from Indesign with file open. Any ideas?!

    Since installing XP SP3 in addition to being unable to open Pagemaker 7 files in Indesign CS I now find I cannot open Indesign again if I close it. I have to reboot XP for a fresh start.
    Also Illustrator CS opens only to present a box "Could not complete operation" and then closes. There are no problems then in opening it a second time, except it takes the usual significant time to start.
    Are these symptoms of the same problem with SP3 and the Adobe software. It is disappointing to see people say neither Adobe or Redmond are at all interested.

    This is a long-shot, but does anyone know if it is possible to open files created or modified in the current version of InDesign in the much older CS2 version of the application? The files need to be fully editable in InDesign CS2.

    Keep in mind, though, that
    1) Three versions are involved here. The CS4 user needs CS3 so he/she can save to INX twice.
    2) Usages of features available in CS4 and CS3 but not available in CS2 will come out fairly well messed up once you get the file into CS2.
    3) Line wrap in CS2 will not match line wrap in CS4 or CS3 exactly. Adobe has tweaked the H&J engine through both upgrades.
    Don't count on roundtripping your document without a lot of work. If you need to roundtrip, you're going to be better off either upgrading to CS4 or keeping the document in one version or the other and marking corrections through PDF.

  • Phostoshop CS4 + FCP Integration - Importing .TIF files...

    I made the upgrade to CS4 and am trying to pull in some .TIF files that I had either created, converted, or were sent to me. THe originals are coming either from Adobe Illustrator CS3 files or Adobe Photoshop CS3 files.
    For whatever reason I cannot get Final Cut to accept my .TIF files. I have tried adjusting several settings and keep messing with it, but it keeps giving me the error message:
    File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown
    What should the correct color settings be in Potoshop in order to correctly import .TIFs? Should I keep the embedded color profiles? Any other settings that I should tweak in order to properly pull these in. Does this have anything to do with my recent switch from CS3 to CS4?
    My FCP project is HDV1080p30 BTW, if that makes any difference.

    Could it be that the .PSD files were created in earlier versions of Photoshop?
    I would have thought that a newer version can always open files created in an earlier version. Problems typically occur, trying to open files created in a newer version on older software, due to new features not being present.
    If you dont have to animate individual layers, perhaps using the "Merge Visible..." (if you have transparency) or "Flatten Image" commands in Photoshop could be used.
    Could it be that the new version of PS somehow handles layers differently? Perhaps your files were updated to that format when you opened them.
