Importing transparent images

I want to use a logo as an overlay on a video in FCE4.
I have a GIF flie of the logo with a transparent background that works just fine when overlaying it on other images in Photoshop & Acorn.
However, when I add that image to a track above a video track, the transparent background turns black.
At one point in time, I was able to use a PSD version of the logo on a video and the background was transparent, but it doesn't consistently work.
Is there a magic bullet that I'm missing?

FCE works well with images having a transparent background in PSD, PNG and TIFF formats (I prefer uncompressed TIFF).  First make sure the image is in RGB Color Mode (not the same as Color Profile).  Images in Grayscale, Indexed or CMYK Color modes do NOT work in FCE.

  • Importing transparent images into Indesign

    Hi guys,
Just started using Indesign cs6 and for the life of me can not work out how to import transparent pngs. All transparent images I import have their background changed to a white background. The image import options has an option to use transparency information, with either use white back ground (which is selected) or use file defined background colour.
I assume i should be using file defined background colour but its greyed out. Why is this option greyed out and how can I retain a transparent bg in my image? The image i'm importing is fireworks png file.
    Cheers,
Ps. First post, so go easy on me

I don't have Fireworks and I haven't made any Fireworks PNG files.
I'm not sure how they work. But I believe that Fireworks PNGs can contain editable layers for Fireworks use only.
This may be part of the issue of the transparent background - but as I say I have very limited knowledge of Fireworks.
What I will say with some degree of comfort is that PNG is primarily a web format - and it's not a print format. Adobe InDesign is a page layout tool intended for Print on mechanical presses - and it's only recently it's been geared towards Web, ePub and  Flash creation.
Perhaps the Fireworks PNG simply does not work with InDesign.
Can you save that Fireworks PNG from Fireworks to say a TIF of PSD? Which may be better for importing to InDesign.
The only other solution I can think of is to open that PNG file in Photoshop and save it as a Transparent PNG from there using File>Save for Web

  • Problem: importing a transparent image from Photoshop to Premiere.

    Dear Adobe community,
I am trying to import a transparent image from Photoshop to Premiere Pro CC. Whatever file format I choose to export from Photoshop, Premiere Pro CC will not import the file correctly. When I import is, two things occur: 1) the image gets imported, but the white background is still there or 2) the image gets an error "The importer reported a generic error".
Does anyone have an idea how I can get an image with a white background transparent into Premiere Pro CC.
    Specs:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, eind 2013)
    2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
    16GB RAM
    1536MB Intel Iris videocard
    Thanks!

You need to make sure the image has an alpha channel.
Images like jpeg dont have an alpha channel.
Psd or png do and the image has to be RGB.
Make sure the background in PS is also transparant.

  • Importing GIF images and maintaining transparency

I have an issue involving gif images where there is a transparent area that must remain transparent. When I import these images into FCP (6.0.4), the transparent area becomes white and looks awful... how do I fix this phenomenon?

Does it really have to be GIF?
Only 256 colors as opposed to the 16 million possible in a TV picture.
Alpha channel is either on or off - meaning you can't have semi-transparent areas.
Non-existent anti aliasing and horrible quality generally.
Even with JPEG you are pushing your luck. JPEG compression can corrupt the fields in interlaced video.
Saving money on cheap, quick graphics now means spending it later trying to fix what "doesn't look right". Guess what? It never will.
TIFF is best, PNG will just about do it if not.

  • Illustrator wrongly handels transparent image imported from photoshop

image with transparent background, opened in photoshop

    while saving/printing to pdf :
Everything looks ok at first glance, but you can see the image border in the picture, there is a jump of 1 a 2 px over the whole border of the transparent image.(transparency is more than 100px that transaprency works ok)
    file can be found here:

  • Is it possible to import an image w/ transparent background from photoshop?

    Hello,
I was wondering if it's possible to import an image which contains a transparent part of it into Motion, so I can later add in images and videos underneath that layer.
    Thanks for your time.

    hi again,
there are two ways to do this. In Photoshop you can elect to have a transparent background, if you erase your image to show the chequered background, Motion will do the same.
Or from within Motion you can apply a mask to an image to have it show whats underneath. Apply the mask using the mask tools in the toolbar to the image, then step over to the Inspector, hit the mask tab and select the type as subtract. That will punch a hole in your image revealing whatever is underneath it.
    thanks

  • How do I import an image with an opacity mask from AI into FW

I have created a graphic in AI which contains several images with associated opacity masks. The mask use a radial gradient to achieve the desired effect. I am unable to import these images into FW with the mask effects intact even though the layers appear to be there. What am I doing wrong? I don't see away to do it in FW directly. If there's a work-around that would be appreciated too.

Fireworks' masking is pretty good. If you have your object and your mask in FW, arrange the objects so that the mask is above the object, select both, then click on
Modify > Mask > Group as Mask
Where the mask is white, your object will be fully opaque. Where the mask is black or 100% transparent, your object will be fully transparent. Where the mask is grey or partially transparent, your object will be, as well, proportionally to the grey level/transparency level in the mask.
Fireworks also has some built-in masks to fade objects radially or linearly. In CS3, these are under
Commands > Creative > Fade Image
but they got moved someplace else for CS4. I can't find the info on that in the help, though, sorry. Oh wait. It might be the Auto Vector Masks:

  • Why the White Lines around imported Photoshop Images

Working in CS6, importing native Photoshop images into an Illustrator gradient.  Certain imported Photoshop images, with transparent background, produce white lines bordering the images.   The white lines stand out against the AI gradient.  The whites lines are not visable on screen.  They came out in the commercially printed product.  The overall AI document, with PS images placed and linked, was save to a PDF.  It was then printed from the PDF. The PDF, as viewed on screen, does not show the white lines either.  Why and how do the white border lines (the box surrounding the image) appear?

First I would recommend making sure there are indeed »no pixels« there in Photoshop – applying the Layer Style Stroke can help locate stray, semitransparent pixels.
Other than that I am afraid your print service provider may not have provided optimal output.
What print process was employed anyway?
It looks like flattening effects, but those should simply not be visible in print.
They happen when exporting X1 or X3 pdfs, which disallow transparency, so in creating the pdf the psd files that have transparency are flattened with whatever background and often broken up into smaller parts.
That way a whole mess of fragmentary images can be created, as one can see when one opens such a pdf in Illustrator.
One can avoid that by creating X4 pdfs, which do allow transparency, but if those can be processed by the printer is another question.
But this issue might be more suitable to the Illustrator or pdf Fora.

  • Changing fill colour for partly transparent images

Does anyone know how to change the fill colour used for partly transparent images? I have a bunch of PNGs that I made for use as clip art, which I imported into iPhoto (that way I can use the media browser with Pages and Keynote).
Unfortunately, the images (which are black) are shown on top of a black rectangle both in iPhoto and the media browser. I've tried changing the background colour to both gray and black, but the 'fill' colour stays black.

There's no way to change it if you want to keep the transparency for use in other applications or web pages.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • How to use 'transparant' images

    Hello,
I'm very new to Illustrator so excuse me if I ask something which can't be done.
In  Photoshop I have made a image where I removed the background, so that  the item is 'loose'  from the background (and the background is  transparant). I've saved the file as a PSD as well as a PNG.
Now  I want to import that image in an Illustrator document but when I do  this, the transparant part of the image becomes white in Illustrator.
Is there something which can be done so I can import an image with a transparant background?
I hope my question is clear (as English isn't my original language).

Well Mr. Jacob Brugge, to be honest.................than the problem is solved.
    Tsjjjjjjjj.....how simple.
Thanks a million for this quick and correct reply.
I really feel stupid (but I thought I had tried this before and than it didn't work, but probably I did something wrong then).

  • Is it possible to import illustrator images?

I ask because I have sort of.
I imported an image, but the transparent areas show as black in Aperture. I guess its sort of seeing it as PDF?

Hi Air7, it's possible with Aperture 3.2.2, but only in Sow Leopard. It does not work in Lion (one of the reasons why I don't upgrade). But it's only for having all your graphic files in one place. If you wan't to work with the ai file, you must first export it on your desktop and open it from there.

  • Fade transparent images to background image!

This is probably an easy task for most of you, but how do i get a transparent image to fade to a background image in Flash?
I have several transparent product images (.png or .gif) and a patterend background.
I import my .png or .gif image and convert it to a symbol.
I drag the symbol on my layer but as soon as i add a keyframe, the product image background turns white and loses it's transparency!
A newbie as you can tell :-)
    Thanks in advance
    Andy

you select a timeline/layer/frame and you drag a library symbol from the library to the stage.  at that point, what do you see?

  • Which Type of Transparency Image File

    Hello
I was wondering if anyone has ever tried creating an image with it's background carefully traced and removed, then saving that edited image into a transparency, and then of course importing it into the FCE timeline superimposed over the main video track?
I've got Adobe Photoshop 7, and I was wondering what the edited (cropped), transparent image file should be saved to?
    Thanx
    Mike

    Hi Thanx Matt
Ok then as I understand it, the completed (edited), image after cropping (removal of the background), must be saved as just a .psd adobe project file, and NOT exported as any other file type.
Now unless I'm missing something, you say that this psd will definitely open in FCE HD (just as a psd).
    Correct?
And then this psd transparent file will allow video background to appear superimposed under/over it.
    Correct?
And of course you can change the opacity of either the video, or the inserted psd according to the desired effect.
Now Matt, does one need to have Photo Shop installed in the same computer system that has FCE HD installed?
Or can I get a friend to create the transparent psd from her adobe program, then just transfer it into my system with FCE.
(Currently I don't have Photoshop installed in my system)
    Thanx Matt

  • How to import transparent gifs in after effects cc

I just upgraded form after effects cs5 to cc and one thing i cant understand is why i cant directly import transparent gifs as i could in cs5. I heard that you have to make a png sequence from fireworks but i dont want to go through all of that. I would appreciate if someonecan tell me how to easily import transparent animated gifs into after effects cc as you could in sc5

You can't and that is that. This stuff used Quicktime components and simply too much has changed. You need to work with image sequences exported from Photoshop or whatever other program based on your GIF.
