Importing tunes from another computer

Hi. I've been trying to help my wife import song files from her desktop PC iTunes library to her laptop PC iTunes library, without much success (I'm a Mac guy). Her iTunes libraries can "see" each other, but when you try to access them, a message appears along the lines of "please make sure your firewall software enables port 3689", or words to that effect. In other words, I should be able to at least play songs on one computer from another, but I can't even do that at this point, much less import them, which is what I'm really trying to do.
Sorry for the rambling....I'm just trying to include details for you all.
Thanks!

  • Import scripts from another computer

I bought a new computer and exported the scripts from my old computer to a flat file, then imported onto the new computer (after a new install of XE from the website). I got a security error that I was not in the same security group as the exporter! Checked and on new computer I have full system privileges, on export I was SYSTEM. Tried editing a copy of the flat file with the security code from message which was 15 characters long (on file 16 characters) but that failed in the same way.
Any ideas, or do I need to re-type the scripts.
Old computer is now in pieces for shipment.

  • Can't import library from another computer

I used to be able to sync my aperture libraries from my iMac to my MacBook Pro. I just would use the import Library/Project option and it worked perfectly. Now Aperture just hangs when I try to do it and I can't get it to work.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

On the new laptop, launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer.

  • After importing bookmarks from another computer, I have two copies of all of them: how can I delete the 'right' copy?

I successfully imported my bookmarks from my old to new Macbook. But now there are two copies of everything, listed one after the other. I tried to delete one set, but only deleted the ones organized into folders. There are still doubles of a lot of bookmarks. Now when I bookmark new pages on the new computer, it adds them to the end of one list of bookmarks but not the other and it's the list that doesn't have the folders from the old computer. How can I delete one set of bookmarks, but keep the set that it's adding on to and keep my folders?

I think in this case you need a addon:

  • Import Firefox from another computer

My old laptop crashed and I had to buy another one. My old one was running Windows XP and my new one has Windows 8. I pulled the hard drive from my old computer to recover my files. Is it possible for me to recover my favorites and saved passwords for Firefox from my old hard drive?
    Thank you

Thats where Sync option comes into action. '''Open the firefox in your old device. '''
At the top of the Firefox window, click the Tools menu and select Set Up Sync.
The Firefox Sync Setup window will open.
    Click Create a New Account.
    Fill in your account details:
    1> Email address
2> Choose a password and enter it a second time to make sure you have it right.
3> Agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
    4> Confirm that you're not a robot!
5> To change what information gets synced, click Sync Options. The default is to sync your add-ons, bookmarks, passwords, preferences, history and tabs.
    Finally, click Next.
You will see a Setup Complete! message. Click Close to close the progress window and take you back to Firefox. Don't worry, your data will continue to be encrypted and uploaded in the background.
'''Now Open your new device '''
1> At the top of the Firefox window, click the Tools menu and select Set Up Sync. The Firefox Sync Setup window will open.
2> Click I Have an Account.
3> The code to add this computer will be displayed.
enter the code and follow the steps and you will be done

  • Transfering i Tunes from another computer to my new Macbook Pro

    Hi
I have recently bought a new Mac Book Pro 15'. Prior to that I was using iTunes on my other notebook where I have all the songs and apps. Now When I am opening my iTunes from MBP it is blank and I need to transfer all my data from the other notebook to this machine. I tried syncing my IPhone with Itunes on MBP however it is removing all the data from my IPhone as theere is nothing to sync in my iTunes on MAC Kindly suggest how can I migrate from my previous notebook to this machine.

the simplest way would be to connect the two Macs with a firewire cable, boot the source Mac in _*Target Disk Mode*_, and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the source to <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the target (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).
another option is to set up _*Home Sharing*_ on both computers, then transfer the content via your network. however, none of your ratings or playcounts would be retained. also, unless you have your artwork embedded in each file, you would have none of that.

  • I was wondering if I import my bookmarks from another computer will this overwrite the bookmarks I already have?

I was wondering if I import bookmarks from another computer will they overwrite bookmarks I already have? Is there a way to prevent this?

It depends upon the method used to import the bookmarks.
Firefox can import from two formats, if you import the JSON format it will overwrite the bookmarks that already exist. If you import from the HTML format it will add the bookmarks that are imported to those that already exist.
To use the HTML format see the following links.

Only if you have iTunes Match or of the computers are on the same local network.

  • Can't sync photos from ipad that I synced from another computer

Can't sync photos from ipad that I synced from another computer... I want to have them on my computer.
Why isn't there a way to do this? I don't get it. Sharing photos is such an important thing I don't understand why Apple makes it so hard to do this.
    OK here is my senario:
Recently went on a trip Hong Kong with someone... we both had iphones and took hundreds of awesome photos. Now we want to share them with eachother. Too many photos for email and I don't wish to upload to flicker/facebook/etc...
This is what I did thinking it should work...
    1) synced photos on her iphone with her computer
    2) synced photos on MY iphone with her computer
    3) put ALL the hong kong photos in one album
    4) connected my ipad to her computer... attempted to copy photos from iphoto to ipad -- NOPE, can't be done (***?!?!)
    5) so I synced the photos (and only the photos) in the hong kong album using itunes to my ipad -- this worked -- all photos now on my ipad
    6) drove home (5 hours away) and connected ipad to my computer and attempted to import with iphoto -- NOPE, can't be done (***!?!?) Won't even show the photos.
    7) itunes wants to replace all the photos on my ipad with the photos from my computer (***?!?!)
How are you suppose to do this?! How are you suppose to be able to share lots of photos with people?

Photos are not copied off the iPad via iTunes.
For photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites then see this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
For photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app such as Simple Transfer (which has a free lite version called Simple Photo & Video Transfer) which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

  • TRANSFERING TUNES FROM ANOTHER IPOD TO YOUR OWN IPOD

HOW DO YOU TRANSFER TUNES FROM ANOTHER IPOD TO YOUR OWN IPOD?

Unless the music was put on the iPod in Disk Mode -- a la This Link -- you are not supposed to.
If you want the same music files on multiple iPods, you connect the iPods to the computer that has the songs on it.

  • How to use iMovie 08 imported footage on another computer in iMovie 09?

I had to import quite a lot of video from tape and had only firewire 400 cable so did it on a Mac running iMovie 08.
Now, how can I move the imported data to another computer using iMovie 09?
When I open iMovie 09, I can see the disk on the other computer (over the LAN) but how can I get iMovie 09 to recognise and use the data that iMovie 08 has imported?

You can use these files, but the first time you open them in iMovie 09, they will be upgraded so they will no longer work in iMOvie 08. New cache and thumbnails files will be created.
It is probably not working now because, for performance reasons, iMovie 09 will not work with a network drive. There are workarounds involving symbolic links. But you still have to deal with the performance issue.
So, do you want these files to still work in iMovie 08?
    *If no...*
Simple drag and drop these Event Folders to a locally attached external drive that is formatted as MacOS Extended (journaled). They should be placed in a folder called iMovie Events at the top level of the drive. Attach this drive to the computer with iMovie 09, and start iMovie 09.
Note: You could also move these files to your internal hard drive if you have plenty of room. In this case, they go in the Movies/iMovie Events folder.
    *if yes..*.
Attach a properly formatted external drive to the computer with iMovie 08. In the finder, copy (not move) the Event folders to folder named "iMovie Events" at the top level of the drive.
Also, if you have created projects from your imported footage (the events), and you want to port your projects to iMovie 09, it gets a little more complicated. Let me know.

  • How to view aperture library from another computer on network?

    Hi,
I'd like to simply view (not edit) my aperture library from another computer on my home network. The aperture library resides on a mac pro, and I'd like to see the images on a macbook pro to show family members. On the surface, this seems like a simple concept - as Apple TV can do this with home sharing. Further, itunes can share it's library in this manner.  Is this possible?
    thank you,
    T

You don't mention which OS you're using and I understand that Lion has changed some of the sharing features but  what you are looking to do is doable.
Be warned that accessing an Aperture library over a network is slow and definitely not something you want to do if editing except in an emergency and you want to make triple sure that only one user is accessing the library at a time.  But I regularly access libraries over wireless when I'm to lazy to walk across the house and need to check somthing out.
If you are using Snow Leopard go into System preferences->Sharing and tune on file sharing on the the Mac Pro. If you have the same user name on both systems you should have no problem accessing the library from the MBP.
If you're on Lion, you'l need to lok up how to enable file sharing. I haven't swithced so I can;r help you there.
    good luck

    Hi,
Use AIM for Mac and use the Export and Import features.
Other than that it is a question on making sure every Single Buddy has more than just their Screen name in the IChat Address Card so it is added to the Address Book and dragging them back from there
