Importing TV shows from one computer to another
Hi there. Pretty simple question, hoping to get an answer.
I have two laptops and am trying to get my tv shows from one computer to the other. I used a memory stick to transfer them to begin with, but once they're onto the other computer, they won't pull up. They don't even register. Is there a way to get them to play without having to purchase them all over again?
You can only burn TV Shows as data CD/DVD. You cannot edit the DRM protected files.

To authorize a computer to play purchases using your Apple Account
Select a song, video, or audiobook you've purchased (in your library or the Purchased playlist).
Click the Play button.
If the computer is already authorized, the item plays. If the computer has not yet been authorized, iTunes asks you to enter the Apple ID and password you used to purchase the song.
From what I can read it doesn't state that you need internet access to authorize.
If indeed internet access is needed then I guess that you will need to transport the computer to a location that has internet access and authorize the computer.

You can copy the domain.sites2 file from the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on your laptop to the Desktop of your desktop Mac, rename it to something like "site name.sites2", and put it in the iWeb folder with your other domain.sites2 file.
If you want to merge the sites in the two domain files into one new domain file you can do so with iWebSites.

How do I move purchased tv show from one computer to another - same acct.
I have multiple computers that are all authorized to use the same iTunes Store account. I purchased a season pass to a TV show and when new episodes become available, my daughter's computer is first to download. I would like to also play those episodes on other authorized computers in the house. How do I go about this? I tried to move the show from my daughter's computer to my iPad and then move from my iPad up to my computer but it will not let me do that. Tips are apreciated.

I have the old macbook pro connected as a hard disc. When I click "import mailboxes" in the new computer's (macbook air) mail program, I can't find where the mailboxes are located on the old computer. Help?
Mail folders typically reside in ~/Library/Mail (user Library). So, you should be able to open Finder / Go / Go To Folder and enter the path of your old MBP's ~/Library/Mail folder.

I dont know if you have your music on your other computer was on itunes, but if it was, make sure that you signed into your itunes account on your other computer. If you are signed in then your music should show up in your library. -

Have both computers running and have iTunes open on both computers.
Now, in the iTunes on the computer you want to transfer music to, select the library that you want to transfer music from, as per the following screenshot:
Once the other library loads, go down to the bottom of the screen and in "Show:" select "Items not in my library":
If you want to import all of the songs you can now see, head up to the iTunes menu bar and go "Edit > Select all". Then head down to the bottom of the screen again and click the "Import" button in the bottom-right-hand corner.
If there's a lot of stuff in the library you're transferring from, the transfer may take some time. -

I got my wife a new macbook pro, running Windows XP prof. She has an iphone 3G with 16 GB memory running 3.0.1. So..she wanted to transfer the sync function from her PC to her macbook. Of course, Apple was of NO help at all (but did want to charge us $69.95 since her iphone is out of warranty, and this was an iphone not a mac problem, hmmm..). Took me lots of digging, but here is how you transfer you iphone from one computer to another:
1. Move you itunes library from the old computer to the new one. To do this, you do NOT just copy it. This is as good a link to use as any to see how to do it, but search the internet and you can find instructions:

2. Transfer your applications you have purchased to the new computer. To do this, open itunes in the new computer, hook up your phone and click on File>transfer purchases (from itunes store) to computer. This will move your applications to the new computer.

If you cannot see it, you need to open windows explorer (not internet explorer) and go to tools>folder options>view and click on "show hidden files and folders" Note YOU CANNOT JUST COPY THE BACKUP FROM THE OLD COMPUTER TO THE NEW COMPUTER AS SUGGESTED ON SOME WEB SITES...THIS DOES NOT WORK, ITUNES WILL NOT IDENTIFY THE BACKUP EVEN IF YOU PUT IT IN THE FOLDER IN THE NEW COMPUTER THAT MIRRORS THE FOLDER LOCATION IN THE OLD COMPUTER.
-OK now you are ready...click restore on the iphone and restore the phone to factory settings. This will happen in a few minutes (10-15 mins).
-The phone will reboot and itunes will recognize the phone again...as a restored phone. It will then ask you if you want to restore it from the backup..say YES. You then need to go through all the itunes tabs and click on everything you want to sync to the phone (playlists, movies, podcasts, ringtones, etc). Once you are done going thru the tabs click "apply" and the sync will start. Go out, to a movie, to bed, whatever because it will take hours to sync.
-Once the sync is done...voila...your iphone has been moved with ALL the settings to the new computer. Check it. Then you can delete the backup you put into the temp folder if it is OK
-Deauthorize your old computer
This worked for Win XP...should work for Vista. The whole process took many hours so don't rush through it (i'm guessing 12 hours total work).

I am also concerned that you are showing us the original catalog on the new computer that you created via importing the photos. That's not what we want to see.
So please confirm that you are using the catalog file that was copied from the old computer, and when placed on the new computer, you double-clicked on that exact catalog file, and then created the screen capture. Please confirm that you are NOT looking at the catalog you created by importing the photos. -
Transfer iMovie 08 Project from one computer to another
I created an iMovie 08 project on my macbook pro. The footage came from a digital still camera on video mode as opposed to a video recorder.
I then attempted to transfer the iMovie project to my iMac which I use to sync with my Apple TV.
I transferred the file over my airport extreme network, and moved the file into the iMovie projects folder in my movie folder in my home folder.
It shows up as a project, but does not play. All I see in the window is black screen.
I even imported the raw footage into the iMac so that there was some data there.
My question is whether there is a way to transfer an iMovie project in iMovie 08 from one computer to another.

Alot of advice just seems to rest with leave the projects on your internal drive as they don't take up much space.
However, http://karsten.schluter.googlepages.com/im08tricks has a description of how to move the projects and then 'fool' imovie into where the projects are stored.
Not very flexible but it does allow you to 'clear' your macbook yet when you restore the sym-link file to the right place and restart imovie you can reconnect to all your old projects and events without yellow triangles of death appearing.
By the by apple needs to sort this out as archiving old projects and events together and preserve the editing is a really basic requirment I think.
PS anyone found out how to merge projects yet? Another basic function that seems to be lacking. -

Welcome to the forum.
I can think of three basic ways to accomplish what you wish to do:
Use the Project Archiver to archive your Project (and check the box to gather the media files), to an external HDD. Probably the easiest way to do it.
Copy the Project and ALL media files to an external HDD, but be prepared to relink the media files to the Project, as the drive letter (part of the Absolute Path) will have changed.
Edit loosely, and Share to an AV file, which will be Imported into a New Project on that second computer. Or, edit VERY tightly, and do the same. I like the first, as removing, replacing Transitions, etc., can be much more difficult, unless that "tight edit" is 100% done.

Then I pluged my IPod into the comuter and imported all my songs. I thought that everything would come over but none of my apps did. I want to synce my IPod up with my new computer how do I do it?
Backup everything to an external hard drive with this User Tip.
Use the same process to clone the library into a new empty iTunes folder on the new computer.
Deauthorise the old box if you don't need to access protected content on it any more.
Use SyncToy from time to time, and in particular before every iTunes update, to keep the backup up-to-date.

Copying photos from one computer to another, with descriptions
After editing photo descriptions and locations in iPhoto, it is desireable to be able to copy them to iPhoto on another computer, with the associated photo descriptions and locations. In principle, this is possible by selecting all desired photos, then selecting File -> Export... In the Export dialog box, in the "File Export" tab, select "Include: Titles and keywords", and "Include: Location information". Copy the exported files to the other computer, and do a File -> Import to Library ...
In practice, this works fine with images taken by some cameras, and not with images from others. In my limited experience with a Fuji F80EXR and a Canon SX230HS, the above work flow works with the Fuji. But, with the Canon, while the exported files clearly have the description data embedded in them (as seen by GraphicConverter), it is not imported into iPhoto, nor is it visible in Preview's Inspector. The workaround I use is to run an exiftool command on the exported files.
Exiftool is a command line utility that can read and write meta data in image files:

I run the following command on the exported files to rewrite the IPTC Caption:
exiftool −overwrite_original_in_place -tagsfromfile %f.jpg -ext jpg -"IPTC:Caption-Abstract>IPTC:Caption-Abstract" *.jpg
Note that the above command overwrites the files that were exported from iPhoto. If you wish to leave the original files intact, with an "_original" appended to the file name, run:
exiftool -tagsfromfile %f.jpg -ext jpg -"IPTC:Caption-Abstract>IPTC:Caption-Abstract" *.jpg
I'm not sure why it is necessary to copy and rewrite that data. Perhaps there is something strange in the format of the meta data in the file as it comes from the camera, and the iPhoto export does not correct this strangeness. Copying and rewriting the data by exiftool seems to put things right.
The above works for me, but is somewhat unwieldy. Is there a better way to copy photos from one computer to another, if iPhoto refuses to import the description data that it was written to the exported files?Thanks for the pointer. I did a test with 10 images, and confirmed the iPLM works, even with the problematic images from my Canon SX230HS.
The workflow is to use iPLM to create a new Library on the computer that has the photos you want to copy. Copy the photos to the new Library. Copy the new Library to the second computer using a method of your choice (file sharing, USB flash drive, etc). Copy the photos from the new Library to the existing iPhoto Library.
iPLM costs $20, whereas my original solution was free (but you need to invest the time to get exiftool installed and working). But, unlike exiftools, iPLM also copies over the Faces information, so it is likely a worthwhile investment if you use that feature. -
I bought a new laptop and used Windows Easy Transfer cable and moved all files from one computer to another. I installed iTunes and found my iTunes music Library. However, when I plug in my iPod it says it is already synced with another iTunes Library.
I don't see anything in Help that shows when you already have transfered all the files over. Why would it want to erase and sync when I already have all the music folder copied over? I didn't have an issue when I had another technician copy from one laptop to another. Home sharing is also on but not being recognized.I suspect you only migrated the media folder instead of the complete working library. Either review the transfer process and copy over the entire iTunes folder from your old profile's music folder or see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

How do I back-up Organizer tags from one computer to another?
Having successfully restored my PSE6 Organizer from one computer to another as back-up,I wish to keep backing-up. However, I have tried CDs, DVDs,external hard drives and flash discs and the tags are not imported, or rather,just one or two are.
I click ' Select All' when I import, the ticks are shown, but it does not work. Thank you,

www.natureandpitures.comI need full back-up as I need Organizer for my work, so use 2 computers. I initially backed-up my entire catalogue on an external hard-drive. Then on the new computer, I used 'Restore'. Although this took 14 hours, it worked, with all tags and captions, although not Albums.
Now, I wish to continue to back-up not only my new photos, but also the tags. I cannot use 'Restore', as this will apparently delete all those pictures already there. So, first of all, I open PSE6, then, 'Make a CD/DVD' and proceed to save. To transfer to the other computer, I use 'Get Photos or Videos'. Everything is okay, except for the tags. I have also tried just dragging the pictures over to Organizer, with the same result.
