Importing Vector Images/Pictures into FInal Cut

Questions about Vector Images in Movie Clips.
I have a Adobe Illustrator File of a Map of the World that I want to use in a NTSC format Documentary. It is a Vector Graphic and can be scaled infinitely. I wanted to get the Best possible Resolution when I import it to Final Cut Pro.
1). What Size & Quality should I make the Image?
2). What format is the best for importing that would keep the best resolution (JPEG/PNG/PDF etc?)
3). Does Final Cut support a Vector Image – thus when imported there would be no loss of resolution if there were Zoom ins to the Image?
Anything else I missed with this please let me know. Much appreciate any technical advice on this matter.
Sincerely,
-Div.

* yes it would, but you need to decide just how far you intend to zoom in .... if you expect to zoom in no more than, say, 3x, then it would make no sense to increase the resolution to 5x. *
Thanks very much guys.. I think that answers everything. Just realized that Illustrator has a Limitation on the Size of the TIFF that I can create so the max will have to do.

  • Importing AVI and ProRes422 into Final Cut X

After finally thinking Final Cut X was ready, I upgraded only to discover a number of issues. Sony's Memory Recording Unit, which I've used to record .AVI videos imported these files directly into Final Cut Studio 7. This is not the case with Final Cut X.
I used Compressor 3 to turn these AVI files to Apple ProRes422 and played the converted videos on QuickTime player -no problem. When I import these ProRes422 files into Final Cut X (10.0.4) the audio does not import.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Tom,
I appreciate the thought that the audio is still compressed - maybe it is - I don't know. However, what I do know is this:
    1) Final Cut Studio 7 imported these AVI files directly and they worked without a problem.
    2) The .avi files are being generated using the Sony Memory Recording Unit - the recording unit used with Sony's professional line of camcorders (not your consumer camcorders).
    3) I used Apple's own Compressor 3 - using the DEFAULT settings for Apple ProRes 422 conversion and the converted product HAS AUDIO.
    4) Both the AVI and ProRes 422 mov files work in Quicktime Player - both audio and video
    - and -
    5) Final Cut X is supposed to be Apple's PROFESSIONAL replacement for the Professional Final Cut Studio 7.
If this was iMovie and the codec for the audio or video wasn't included in the application, well, it's free and I would understand. But, in this case, this is an expensive, professional product and it should include ALL CODECS (with some very minor exceptions for very, very odd codecs). AVI is NOT a minor exception - especially being generated by one of the MAJOR Professional Video Camcorder companies - Sony.
I'm hoping someone else has a better solution than converting, trying, failing, oh well....  NOT ACCEPTABLE!
Fix the product - include the Codec's - make it work!
If it works in Quicktime, it should, absolutely work in Final Cut X or any other professional video product that Apple produces. Simple.
    Anyone else with an answer?

  • How do I import a .fcpproject file into final cut pro?

How do I import a .fcpproject file into final cut pro?

You don't. The application opens it when it recognizes it in the correct folder structure.

  • Every time I import an .fcpxml file into Final Cut Pro X, the timeline doesn't get imported

So I had exported an .fcpxml file from one machine, which i had to format. So, after formatting the machine, each time I import the .fcpxml file into Final Cut Pro X, The timeline remains empty

Use MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 (free software) to convert the media to something like ProRes 422, then import into FCP X.
MPEG Streamclip can cope with many codecs.

  • How to import unix executable files into Final Cut Pro

A friend wanted me to create a Halo 3 Montage Video for him. He loaded the saved clips onto a flash drive for me but when I put it into my computer the information comes up as Unix Executable Files and I don't know how to import them into Final Cut Pro 7.0.2 or if it's even possible. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Ok. Well, I plug in the flash drive. When it opens there's a folder that says XBox360. When I click on the folder there are 9 files listed that say Data0000, Data0001 etc. The preview option shows a gray folder that says Exec on it and the only information I can find is that it's a Unix Executable File. When I click on more info option everything that pops up is what I've already told you. I tried opening it in the VLC Player but nothing played which makes me think there aren't video files on the flash drive. When I click on the file to open it the Terminal Program appears and lists basic information about the file.
Is there a program that can take these files and covert them into something that can run in Final Cut Pro? Or is that what VLC is supposed to do?

Will I have to render the timeline everytime to see it when I play it back?
No. If you ever bring a file to the timeline and it needs to be rendered right away something is wrong. It seems this is what you found out when working with mp4. Your ProRes file won't have that problem.
When you bring a new clip to a new timeline, if the settings of the clip don't match the sequence FCP will ask you if you would like to match them. Choose yes.

  • Need help importing canon xf files into final cut X

Hello everyone, I am new to this site and am really appreciative of all the great information I have been able to obtain through everyones posts. I do realize this thred has been beat to death and apologize in advance for being slow. I am in the same situation as I have an xf 300 and 100 and for the life of me cant get all my files into final cut X. It's about to drive me crazy! I have taken the steps to download PikaFoto's workflow tool for the xf files but I am still having problems understanding how to use the program. Thankyou for providing this program as I am grasping for anything I can to get through this problem. Can I take the files directly into this workflow tool or do I need to go through my xf utiliy program? I just need a basic process to go from my camera to final cut X. A few of you guys have aparently been able to make this work with the same problem so I know it has to be something my tiny brain has not been able to process yet. Any help would really be great. Thanks

    what a surprise...
FCPX is - besides many other features - a highly complex data-base application.- Just dragging some content just somewhere isn't the workflow how a data-base.app can manage its data. I dare to say, your experiments distructed your file-structure irreversible.
You should revert to some back-up BEFORE installing a beta.OS (!!) on a productive system.

Always back up your computer before installing pre-release software.

  • How do I import a .swf file into Final Cut Pro 6?

A client has given me a .swf file for use in their commercial. What is the best way to import this file to play full screen full motion?

The Final Cut Pro manual is very misleading. It says:
You can import any files that are recognized by QuickTime, including:
    * Video files: QuickTime Movie, AVI, and Macromedia Flash (video only—you won’t be able to play any audio portions).
But Apple have since removed Flash support from QuickTime so these files can no longer be opened. The best thing to do is ask the client to deliver the file to you as a QuickTime movie.

  • SWF file wont import into Final Cut

I built TV commercial in Flash and I am trying to import it into Final Cut Pro. I tried editing it in After Effects but when I render it as an avi file it ends up being 1 gig....  I called adobe support but they wont give support, even if you pay them, to use anyone using a trial version of After Effects. Not sure I want to buy it if I cant use Flash and FCP wih it. Either way, if someone can tell me where I can go to figure out how to import this flash animation into Final Cut Pro that would great! In fact, if it is that complicated, I will pay someone to do it for me. This commercial needs to be ready for the stations yesterday.
I really hate Apple for making Final Cut Pro so difficult to work cohesively with Windows software.

You can't. Apple ceased support on their Quicktime Flash componet several years ago. Converting it an Adobe program or exporting it as a image sequence or clip from the flash authoring environment are the only serious options. Still, even that is bound to rules liek not producing correct results with scripts and things that require user interaction. if that is the case and you are running out of time, play the file in a web browser and do a screen capture. Not glorious, but assuming the machine is fast enough and the SWF has been authored properly with video use in mind (size and framerate), might produce a usable movie...

  • Motion files no longer able to import into Final Cut

    Hello all,
Everytime I try to import a motion file into Final Cut I get an unrecogized file error. This just started but I also noticed that Motion has limited export options as well.
I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem.

Hi there. Has anyone got to the bottom of this file error problem yet? I'm having the exact same problem as the one in this post, ...and have an urgent deadline to meet!!
Once again, trying to import Motion 2.0.1 files into FCP 5.0.4 but get error message: "File Error: 1 file recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown"
ANY HELP MUCH APPRECIATED - THANKS!!
    R
I am using Final Cut 5.0.4 with motion 2.0.1
I did install some of the recent updates to Tiger to
get it up to 10.4.9 But that is about it.
    I can't drag into the browser I can't do a file
    import.
My other files that I had previously import maybe a
month ago all work fine inside final cut but any new
files give me the. I still need to conduct further
    testing.
    I will report my findings.

  • Correct way of importing an iMovie 6 movie into Final Cut Express?

    Hi,
Many thanks in advance for your attention.
Any correct way to import an iMovie 6 HD movie into Final Cut Express for further editing?
    I tried.
    1. I Exported the iMovie, at Full Quality and it made a Quicktime version of that movie.
    2. I then Imported this Quicktime version into Final Cut Express.
    3. The audio was smooth, but at regular intervals, the video freezes for a second (and then moves on).
    4. The movie plays smoothly back in its original iMovie incarnation and in its Quicktime incarnation. Only in Final Cut Express is there this intermittent freezing. Stop and start.
    5. I have Final Cut Express 3.5.1 and iMovie 6 HD.
    Thank you,
    - Ross

"Full Quality" QuickTime export from iMovie gives you a DV stream which will need rendering in FCE. Rather than "Full Quality," choose "Expert Settings," and then the following:
    Video
    DV-DVCPRO - NTSC (assuming you're in USA)
    Sound
    48kHz
    16-bit

  • Import m2v into final cut x

I'm trying to import an m2v file into final cut x, but it won't import.  Any suggestions?

FCP iz and always has ben QuickTime based. m2v is an MPEG format.
look at the time lapse on my computer.
I don't know what this means? The m2v file? Yes, you can look at it on your computer. It's the format used by iPad and Apple TV. You cannot edit it. It's not a production format. It's a delivery format. I don't know why the material from the 7D was made into a delivery format when it was going to be edited. Either you can have it remade into a production format, or you can convert it. The former would be much better. m2v is heavily compressed for use on mobile devices and such.

  • Importing transitions from imovie to final cut problems

Hello, I made a musicvideo in imovie, it´s all finished with cuts and transitions but I want to make the "final touch" with balance, colours etc in final cut.
The problem: when I import the imovie project into final cut pro x the clips and the transitions changes the duration so the clips nolonger sync with the music and some of the clips are much longer/shorter than the original. I don´t want to do all the job again, editing and add new transitions in final cut as it already took me a long time......Anyone have any solution?

You can delete the transitions in iMovie and re-add them after importing into FCP X. Granted, this is some work, but it should not be all that much. It is easy to add a number of transitions and to set their parameters all at once.
Like BenB said, transitions behave differently in both programs, and they do not match, so this conversion can cause problems, as you are now well aware.
