Importing video distortion and noise

When I import my Lumix GH3 footage into FCPX I have found that the program adds significant noise (it looks like there are a bunch of knats swarming in the footage) and moderate distortion to my video clips. When I look at the footage straight from the camera memory card it looks clean and incredibly sharp - exposure was perfect, so no noise at all. I thought that maybe it was just because FCP was giving me footage to edit easier with, but upon exporting I found that to video looked exactly the same as it did in my timeline. I'm hoping that there is some setting I have selected that is causing this. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas? I transcoded using both proxy and optimized and it made no difference.

You are confusing a few things. It is up to you to decide whether or not to optimize, or to use proxy media.
The default on import is just that. You can overrule on import it if you want, or change it in the preferences. It is a general preference, not a project preference.
You switch between original/optimized and proxy by clicking a little triangle at the top right of the viewer.
The fact that the system complains about not having proxies is a clear indicator that the option above is now set to use proxy media. Just set it to original/optimized and the red "missing proxy" will all go away.
There is hardly any reason to create *both* optimized and proxy media for the same footage - you are most likely just wasting space. In fact, you could just experiment with using only original media. If performance with original is unsatisfactory, *then* create optimized media. It does NOT have to be done at import time. Just control-click and choose "Transcode Media..." and tick the appropriate box.

  • AVCHD Imported video Jitters and Jumps

Ok I know this has been discussed however I cant seem to get the log and transfer process to create files that are not horribly jittery. Every second there is a major jump during playback.
    I have a Sony SR1.
    Easy setup at AIC 1080i60
    File properties are 1440x1080 29.9fps
Import Prefernces are AVCHD AIC and AC3 Audio is set to plain stereo.
I use the log and transfer capability to capture the files and when I drag the files to the time line to play its painfully bad jitter. HELP? I have been searching for a solution for hours.
    Thanks for taking the time

I'm having exactly the same problem with imported AVCHD. The video that I import from my Sony HDR-SR10, jumps backwards every 15th frame, leaving me with a seizure inducing "Wang-Chung" effect. However, the suggestion that I delete Perian and TubeTV doesn't work for me, becuase, when, I search the computer, no such files exit. (Never even heard of them.)
    Any other suggestion?
    Thanks,
    Brad

  • Why is imported video black and white

When I imported a video into Motion 5 it appeared in color in the layers list, but black and white on the canvas.

Did you change the channels settings to red, green or blue?

  • Strange glitch when importing video (uncompressed and ProRes)

I'm encountering an issue when importing files into Final Cut. The problem seems to be occurring only with uncompressed SD and ProRes as far as I can tell.
    Here's what's happening:
I import a file into Final Cut. It has a running time of about 10 minutes. If you drag the clip into the timeline or viewer, there seems like there is some kind of sync problem. The video plays back, but ends around the 8 minute mark instead of 10. The actual clip spans the full 10 minutes in the timeline, but the part of the clip between 8min and 10min is just black. Nothing seems to be getting cut out. It plays back at a little faster rate, which would explain why it's ending at 8 minutes. I just can't figure out why this is happening.
I thought it might be a problem with the file itself, but it works fine on another Final Cut system I've tried.
I tried other types of files on the problem computer and they work normally. For a temporary fix (since the project needed to be completed) I converted the problem file to DVCPro in compressor. No problems once I did that. It played back and edited fine. The problem only seems to be happening with either uncompressed or ProRes footage.
I haven't installed any new codecs or software since working with these formats in the past when this issue wasn't present. I've tried trashing preferences, double checking sequence settings, etc. Of course I'd rather avoid reinstalling Final Cut altogether.
It's obvious that it's an issue with my computer since the files work normally on the other system. I'm just at a loss as to what is actually happening.
Hopefully I explained it well enough. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help Alchroma, but I'm quit sure it's not a problem about interlacing of the rolling shutter.
I really don't get it. The file plays perfectly in Quicktime, and once I import it in FCPX it gets smashed. The video is like bugging every 2 or 3 seconds. I added an other photo of the bug.
    Hope someone can help me!

  • WEBM video distorted and Lags 720p

I upload sports videos and I just noticed that Firefox is playing them in WEBM format That creates a huge problem for me because of distortion/Lag and I can not play 720p videos comfortably without high lag on ALL Webm videos;I guess my video card can not handle the demand of WEBM.
My computer is not too old or new either so I really am concern for the foreseeable future,Millions of people from around the world that can not afford new computers will be affected by this new tech.
This ruins everything for me because Firefox is my favorite browser I am forced to switch to Internet Explorer to watch sports videos in H264/Flash.

It has nothing to do with low light at least not in my case. I'm returning it to Apple, I think it's a bad speaker as I ran the memo app in a quiet room (Didn't say anything) and on playback it still made the sound (A shhhhhhhh sound)

  • LR4 doesn't import video files .avi and cannot playback

    Hello,
I have a big issue with my brand new Lightroom 4.
I've been working on my updated catalog (from LR3) very well, since I tried to import fotos and videos from my second camera (olympus E-PL1).
This "old" catalog contains RAW files (NEF and ORF), Jpeg and Video files (.avi).
In LR3 I had no problems in importing video file and in playing the back with the external player.
Now in LR4 is a real disaster!
I cannot even import .avi files properly.
LR is importing fotos but is giving a failure message on most of the video (avi) file.
Sometimes it imports just few videos and sometimes none of them.
I've tried to import them in differnt way: from camera directly, from a card reader, from an external drive and even from the c: hard drive. i've tried to move, and to add them in catalog. NO WAY!
I've also tried to clean the video cache: no changes. To disable GL accelerator: no results. I have no further idea.
I can play these video files in all applications, from WMP to Quicktime. I have also Vlan installed.
Furthermore, while trying to import or playback videos. LR4 is slowing up in a very strange way. And sometime is crashing the last imported session (files not foud)
I've tried to reinstall it, but I didn't see any different result.
I've searched everywhere in the web for a possible solution, but I didn't find anything.
Avi file I'm talking about are coming from a olympus camera E-PL1, they are in 720p.
Please help me, beacuse I am very disappointed wih thios new video feature.
    Thank you in advance!
    Marco

Yes, I did and I got a strange outcome.
I checked Quicktime, and I reinstalled it.
    I restarted the PC.
    When LR4 opens, the processes
    dynamiclinkmanager.exe
    dynamiclinkmediaserver.exe
    Adobe QT32 Server.exe.
    are not working.
After I opened the import dialog these services started.
For the first time after restarting the PC; I could import a small video and I could playback it without problems.
The second try of importing more videos (4 small ones), went well, but at the playback moment, everything freezed again.
I tried to restart lightroom and to kill the processes listed above, but I had no luck.
Only restarting the PC I could (and not always) importing the videos. The playback did work just few times.
If the first task, after restarting the PC and Lightroom is importing (without waiting the previews of the importing box) generally there is no problem.
If I work with my catalog, which contains videos as well, then the importing dialog (for videos) is not working.
The playback feature seems to be a matter of luck, 90% ot times is not working well.
    I run a Windows 7 64 bit machine.
A similar problem was reported as a bug in this post, and if so I wonder why there are not many other users reporting the same problems.

I really hope I can solve it, without waiting for a bug fix.
    Thank you

  • Importing video error: Adobe doesn't import video

I would like to import video into Premiere from my Flash Memory camcorder's hard drive to my computer's hard drive. My camcorder records .mpg files, and when I try to import mpg files into Premiere, the program says the file is not supported. I also tried importing wmv files and still image files from my computer's hard disk into Premiere, and the program does not recognize these (the source window in Premiere is empty). Is there a mistake I am making? Does the program recognize mpg files? If so, how do I import video files and use them in the program?

FAQ: How do I import xyz format files?

  • Adjusting Volume of Imported Videos

I'm wondering how to adjust the volume of a video I've
imported into Flash. I used the File > Import Video option and
need to import flv, dv, and mov videos. Once I have imported the
video is there some actionscript I can use to control the volume of
the video clip? or do I need to do something while importing the
    file itself?

It should be noted that velocity doesn't do the same thing to all instruments. Mostly instruments where you can play harder to make it louder, like a drum or a bass guitar or piano, but I have noticed with a trumpet, full velocity gets you a sharp stab with a slide down of the note, and on organ it really does nothing at all. So, it depends on the instrument being edited whether that will do what you need.

  • Distortion and cracking noises together with hitches in video

    Hello,
I have a question concerning the quality of the media on my laptop, concerning both graphical and audio gliching sounds and video crashes. They seem to occur at the exact same time so I'm guessing there is a connection beween the two of them. The specs on my laptop are:
    Hewlett-Packard HP ENVY 17 Notebook - 2,40 gigahertz Intel Core i7-4700MQ - 64 bit
I use my NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M video card mostly but I have tried switching between the other standard video card Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600.
I have been using this Notebook for a few months now for school (I'm using a pretty heavy 3D design program, inventor), music, films and games. Until now it completely lived up to my expectations and I'm a quite content user but these noises and distortions are killing me. They occur with both my headphones and without (just the speakers on my laptop) about every 5 seconds. My notebook proudly wears the Beats Audio brand (honestly I don't believe that should guarantee anything concerning audio quality, it just so happend to be on the laptop that had drawn my attention.)
Now I have done a little research on the subject, after trying basic solutions like reinstalling my audio drivers and in generally looking up previous updates and checking the log, I had found a few threats that suggested it might have something to do with windows. but the Windows 8 help proved not to be sufficient to solve the problem.
Can you maybe help me out on this case?
Thanks in advance for the help!

    Hello JustSomeUser,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
Thank you for providing the troubleshooting steps that you have already done. Due to the video hitching and sound quality being poor at this time. I would suggest restoring back to the original graphics drivers. I have included the document 'Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8)', After reinstalling the original drivers, please restart your notebook. Now you will have to reinstall the updated drivers. I have included the document 'Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 8)'. Please follow the steps for Updates and tune-ups.
Does this happen across all programs, or just particular programs? Are the programs that it does happen on Internet based? What file type of movies, and music are you playing? What player are you using to play movies, and music?
As well could you provide me with the full model number of your Envy 17. If you need it, I have included the document 'Guide to finding your product number'.
    Thank you.

  • Why is audio  distorted and pulses after I import from Adobe Organizer to Adobe Premiere Elements 11

All the videoes I have collected this year from my iphone video, sony  video camera an fuji water video camera work fine in the Adobe organizer but when I import to Adobe Premiere Elements 11 after a couple of clips max four the audio distorts and pulsates. • Audio distortion and clipping from imported AVCHD

I just built a new computer that works great for video and is now playing back AVCHD no problem.
The sound however, is the same as before. It sounds like really really bad over clipping, straight from the RAW imported video... Sounds fine on the camera and it sounds fine in my Sony Content Management Utility... But in premiere and sound booth... it's not working.
It was also the same problem on my other computer even though I had a $4000 AD/DA converter that can go up to 24bit 192khz and I'd used programs such as Nuendo and Cubase with no problem, even at 32-bit float... (Audio and Music is my primary)
Interesting thing is, this is also happening in Soundbooth
    Ideas?
    Problem existed on both:
Windows 7 and Windows XP Pro SP3

Got it! How did I not see think of this before!
Tried a different format on the Sony HXR-NX5U, Dolby Stereo. And it works.
What I was using before as a  LPCM (L for Linear, it's a lossless codec) Codec format which I gues premiere does not like.
Adobe Premiere would probable recognize PCM because it is Non Linear Quantized and older format and it explains why LPCM was distorting - becuase it's on a wider linear scale that exceeds what Premiere supports - it was still seing the PCM part of the code but not that it was Linear.
    The audio nerd prevails.
    *edit*
Huh, well I don't see PCM nor LPCM in supported audio formats.

  • FCP Video Distorted While Importing & Playback Issues

While importing a Mini DV off of my Sony DVCAM deck there are some moments lately where the video playback and importing is distorted. There are four vertical lines that are pixelated with multi color over the video that is playing back. It happens on and off. This just happened and I play the video source from my camcorder everything looks fine. On top of that there are moments when I can control my deck through FCP but there is no video playing back in FCP. Am I missing something? This just popped up considering I have imported footage before with no problems. Anyone have a clue? Thankx
    iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Try capturing a short segment using iMovie.
If it works, you most likely have a Quicktime issue.
Often in upgrading the OS, QT or FCP for some odd reason QT will get knocked slightly off kilter. The usual solution it to force a full reinstall of QT.
    This is how:
Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime703.pkg
Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
    Run the Quicktime installer.
    Reboot
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
    Good luck.
