Importing Video From iPhoto doesn't work correctly

I have many videos in iPhoto and they do not appear when iMovie launches. The manual says the following
"Video from your digital still camera or camera phone that you download to your
iPhoto library is automatically available when you open iMovie. In the Event Library,
select iPhoto Videos, and then select the Event you want"
This is not true? ANy help?

i have alot of movies on my iphoto and tried to upload to imovie.
the program does not respond!
iPhoto only requires a movie be playback compatible for it to be imported. iMovie requires a file be "edit" compatible before it will import the file at the "Finder" level.
i tried uploading from the hard drive and got the same result.
the only time the imovie actually respond is when i upload directly from my camera
Same result for the same reason. Files imported by the Finder must already be "edit" compatibile with iMovie '08. Files which are imported directly from a camcorder (with the exception of DV) have to be "converted" to become "edit" compatible with iMovie '08. The "Import from Camera" option automatically converts files imported from recognized devices while the import of files via the Finder does not.
Basically, if a file is not DV, AIC, Motion-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264 along with supported audio compression formats it will not be accepted/imported by iMovie '08. Either you import the files directly from the recording device (or make the application think it is doing so) or you convert them manually. To know what is best/easiest for you to do, we would first have to know what kind of files (i.e., compression formats) we are dealing with here.

  • Imovie 09 How do I stop Imovie from auto importing video from iphoto

Imovie 09 How do I stop Imovie from auto importing video from iphoto.
Hi I've done a lot of searches on how to do this but no answers found.
Imovie is beginning to become really slow because of the large number of video's. It takes 3 minutes to startup. Editing is sometimes slow lot's of spinning beach balls e.t.c.
I would like to only import the video I want to edit and hopefully get a quicker Imovie in the process.
My Iphoto library is about 95 Gbyte in size.
My mac has 4 gb ram and I use the internal disk.
Any other ways to work with Imovie/Iphoto are also welcome.
    regards

I won't get iMovie 9 till Tuesday, but based on what you said I may need to take some precautions. One reason I didn't like iMovie 8 is because it automatically imported everything in iPhoto library. What I'm going to do is create a new iPhoto library before importing the photos/videos from the camera. Or if you already have it in your main iPhoto library copy only the photos you'll use in your iMovie 9 project to the new library. Then start iPhoto while pressing the option key which will allow you to select the new iPhoto library you have created. Then I suppose that when you start iMovie 9 it will automatically import only the photos/videos from the new library.

  • IPhoto doesn`t work correctly with german "umlaut" (ä,ö,ü) in keywords

iPhoto doesn`t work correctly with german "umlaut" (ä,ö,ü) in keywords. They get to ä̈,ö̈, ü̈ when I write the keyword a second time. Can anybody tell me why. Thank you. Heinz

It apparently does not like non-standard English characters - use A-Z and 0-9 adn you should be OK

  • IMovie not importing videos from iPhoto

I am trying to import videos from iPhoto into iMovie. It is not bringing in ( i.e. creating thumbnails for) anything after Dec 2010. The videos all show up in iPhoto and they were shot with an iPhone. Is there a date range set somewhere that I need to change. I can not even get them if I specifically try and import them one at a time through File-Import-Movies. When I try this method it lets me select the videos, but they still don't show up in my video thumbnails. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Other info:
    OSX 10.8.3 on a 2012 iMac
    iMovie 11 9.0.8

I open up iMovie and it then imports movies from iPhoto. The problem is it is missing several videos. When I select import video it imports those missing files, so I know it's not a file format issue... Anyone else seen this? Any suggestions on how to get ALL my videos into iMovie?
iPhoto will import any file that can be played in the QT Player (i.e., that is "playback" compatible). On the other hand, iMovie '08 will only import files that it can edit -- i.e. that are "edit" compatible. (Would you really want to waste your time importing files only to find that you can't do anything with them once they are "in" the application?) Your solution is to convert non-edit compatible files to compression formats that are editable -- primarily DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264. You should also note that both audio and video content must be edit compatible. For instance, many AVI files contain M-JPEG video which can be edited along with ADPCM audio which cannot be edited and so such files will not import.

  • Import video from iPhoto to the new iMovie

how does one import video from iPhoto video to i Movie for a project. This used to be simple.

In the CONTENT LIBRARY (bottom left) you should see an iPhoto item which when clicked gives you access to your iPhoto library.  Does this not include videos?  (I don't use iPhoto so cannot check).

How do I import videos from iphoto? at this time it is not letting me do this - all my videos are loaded into iphoto, and i need to cut them asap.
    thanks

If iphoto is like iphone with Variable Frame Rate, you won't be able to edit in Premiere Pro (or Elements) so you may need to buy Quicktime Pro from Apple

  • How to import videos from iphoto

it did it the first time i loaded imovie 08, but i cant find an option to do it again.
and thre is no info in any apply help file or the support pages, only how to import photos from iphoto.
stupid! or is it me being stupid

My iphoto video formats are the kind that my DMC Panasonic Still camer Shoots.
That doesn't really help, try opening them in QT/inspector and seeing what video and audio compression is used.
My point is, they are the same format as the ones that were imported 3 days ago.
Are you sure, your camera may be capable of taking more than one type of video, does im08 still recognise the video from 3 days ago
Is there a manual way to udate the iMovie video library from iPhoto when new videos are added to iPhoto?
Have you tried dragging the video from iphoto to the desktop and then in im08 using file/import movies

  • Can't import video from iPhoto or memory card

I just upgraded to iLife'11 but now I can't seem to import my videos from iPhoto. Before, I could download stills and videos to iPhoto (via card reader) and iMovie would automatically import them. Now I can still import video into iPhoto but then can't figure out how to move them into iMovie. Any suggestions?

I get a message saying "the file is and unrecognized format."
    It's just a jpeg!!!!
    What is the color profile?
    Will they open in preview?

Imports from iPhoto are performed at the "Finder" file level. As such, the files must be "edit" compatible for iMovie '08 to import them. MPEG files, whether multiplex M2V/AC3 or M2V/MP2, are not compatible and must be converted before the editor will accept them.

  • IMovie 10 can't import video from iphoto/aperture

In iMovie 10.0.2 I can see thumbnails of videos (static single thumbnail, they don't scroll)  in the iPhoto and Aperture libraries listed in the top left corner of the "LIBRARIES" section. But I can't drag the videos into to the timeline or a project. Photos can be dragged into timeline or project. I can drag videos successfully from the finder.
My iphoto and Aperture libraries are referenced as opposed to internal. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
The instructions on this support page simply do not work.

Anyone have any ideas? I can't find another post like this.

    I had the same problem.
Mac Mini running OS X 10.9.4
    Using iMovie 10.0.5
    Canon ZR85 digital video camera.
I bought a fancy Firewire 400 to 800 cable (mini) and hooked it up.
iMovie can see and hear the video/audio. I click import and it opens the import window.
I see a message that says can not control the camera but it looks like it is recording.
I stop import and close the window---no file created.
I just read the above post by John M. and tried QuickTime player.
It sees the same video and lets me record it--just as I wanted to.
Finally I can convert all these VHS videos !
What is up with iMovie? Why can it see the video and hear the audio but still won't let me import or record it?
Thanks John for the idea. I was about to give up.

  • Importing audio from iTunes doesn't work

GarageBand won't let me import audio files (unprotected) from the media browser. When I try to drag a file into the GarageBand window, it simply snaps back.
When I right-click on the file and select "Show in Finder" it tells me, the file can't be found.
When I go to the same file in iTunes and select "Show in Finder" iTunes has no problem shown me the file.
Dragging the file to the desktop from iTunes and to GarageBand from there works.
    ???

I had the same issue recently.
I found a workaround which resolved in my case, which was to drag the (DRM protected) file from iTunes to my desktop and THEN to GB.
