Importing Video Stops every 19 mins

Hi all
I am importing VHS video into imovie, but imovie stops importing every time at 19:52:24,
Has anyone had this problem and been able to figure it out?

not really re-format, but erase.
the settings for the format can only be done when a drive gets erased with the Disk Utility..
but, that erases all content on drive!
so, if possible, copy in Finder content from drive to another one, then erase/format.
you will stumble into more problems, using a wrong formatted drive... (e.g. titles don't apply, edits are not 'recognized' etc)
probably, you have to start at zil, .. erase/format drive, import again..

for future use:
after unpacking a new drive, erase/format to 'MacOsExtended' (you'll find as a drop-down menu in the erase dialog), THEN use it..

Importing Video stops at 19:56 every time

I'm having trouble importing video into iMovieHD. It will import in chunks of 19 minutes and 56 seconds and then stop importing. It's got to be some setting that I've got on, but I can't seem to locate it. Anu suggestions?

btw3000, what you describe is not typical, which suggests the problem may be with the video itself, not with iMovie or your disk.
Does the import stop at the same spot on the tape each time? If so, that suggests a defect in the tape. If could be a flaw in the tape, or a break in shooting the video, where user error introduced a few seconds of "dead" time. iMovie watches for that, which normally signals the end of the recording.
Does it work okay with other tapes?
If the import stops at IRREGULAR intervals, or the image shows defects, that might suggest dirty tape heads. Try a tape head cleaning tape.
When troubleshooting a problem like this, it sometimes helps to shoot 30 minutes or so on a new, unused tape. (But after using a head-cleaning tape.) Just let the camera record traffic or something. The video content will tell you whether everything is working. If the traffic suddenly stops with no brake lights coming on, the import failed.
If the traffic tape imports okay, the problem is not with iMovie, your computer, or your FireWire connection. That rules out a ton of potential problems, so it's a good test to do.

My iPod touch keeps stopping every 45 min's when listening to the radio via an app. What to do?

I listen to the radio via an app on my iPod touch, but every 45 min's or so the whole program stops and I have to reactivate the app, which is difficult in the middle of the night! Wifi connections is ok, iPod also fully charged. Please can anyone help me to sort this out? thanks!

Import video, stills from Sony Mini DVD-RW?

Hi.
I just bought a Sony DVD 403. How do you import video from the Sony DVD-RW?
When trying to drag the files from the mini DVD I get "Unsupported File Type" into iDVD, iMovie HD, Quicktime, and Final Cut Express. (All are the latest versions). Thank you for your response.

Sony DVD-RW. I find it odd that iDVD plays the videos without anything of the mini DVD alright but I can't save them? Are you sure about that JPEG 2? When I
do a get info it does not say what those files are. Thank you for all your help.
The USB on it is useless, I can't figure why no fire wire and I for sure thought
I could import from a DVD. What a disappointment. You have great video and
sound and can't get it into the G4.

Movie stops every 15 min

when I try watching the movie I have on my iPod touch it stops after like 15 mins. I have to restart and ff to where I was. The video will play again & then stop again.

Sorry - I hope my message didn't come off as sounding rude, not my intention.
I agree that it's maddening to have to purchase additional hardware to fix something that should work out of the box. I'm with you there - especially since every single other peripheral that I use on my onboard USB ports works great, leading me to believe that this is a iPod Touch issue, not an issue with my onboard USB ports.
But, this issue has been around since the Ipod touch was released, and so far, there has been no fix from Apple (over six months). In my case, spending $10 on a PCI USB card was well worth it. It took less than 5 minutes to install, and my iPod has worked flawlessly ever since. If you have read the other posts, and you have the same symptoms, then you might want to give it a try. By the way, I haven't read a single post from anyone where adding a secondary USB card didn't solve this problem.
Your last sentence sounds like you are getting very frustrated. I hope this all works out for you - let us know how it goes!

Time capsule hard drive starts/stops every 5 min: problem?

Every five minutes, whether or not a time machine backup is due, my 1 TB time capsule hard drive starts, spools up, then stops (I used a stopwatch to time the interval). Is this a problem? Never happened when unit was new (late 2010), or before Lion.

Yes, it is a problem..
Firstly check the log if there is a lot of instances of AFP getting logged in and off again.
Try disconnecting everything that is ethernet connected to the TC.. does it still happen.. if yes, turn off all the wireless stuff and see if it still happens.
If it still happens disconnect the wan.
There simply may not be anything you can do about it.. Lion has altered the setting for spotlight to analyse the drive.. but the new firmware also seems to make it worse. Not sure if you can stop it or not.. but it will cause issues over time.. in fact it would be better if the hard disk never spun down than to do it on 5min interval especially if the disk is also parking the heads.
How desperately do you want to pursue the problem??
I would suggest wiping the current setup. And even erase the drive after copying anything you need off it. So you get it back to scratch. You can ring applecare if it is still under warranty. I am not sure they will treat it seriously.

ITunes U video stops every 30 seconds

Dave, the problem is the upgrade that just came out. It's doing that to a lot (if not all) iPods. The video will play for about 30 seconds, pause, and then resume without sound. Someone said that if you pause the video before it freezes, slide the hold button over for a few seconds, and then slide it back, the video will play fine. I personally recommend that you downgrade your firmware since The new update also has issues with the backlight. Just search the forum for instructions on how to do so. I've posted them up myself.

On my "old" iPhone 5 and my new iPhone 5S the playback of ie Youtube videos stops every 2 seconds and i have to start the video again and again, does any one recognice this, and is ther a fix to this problem?
I had succes on the old phone with a restart of the phone, after that is worked a few weekes and then needed a new reestert, but on the new 5s the error is consistent, i am running iOS 7.0.4

I need to say that i have A 100/100 mbps connection and that the wireless router gives me 40/40 mbps, så that os mit an issue, but thanks anyway for the answer!

Importing video from widescreen camcorder

When I import video from my Panasonic Mini DV camera it is distorted to fit into more of a box size then the widescreen format that it is shot in. How can I retain the widescreen format when I import into iMovie? Letterboxing just adds black bars but covers up part of the video. Any suggestions?

When I watch a video of TV show online, whenever an ad comes, the video stops and a message appears: "The video you have requested is ... being blocked by an ad blocker installed in your browser." How can I resolve?

I had been having no problem watching videos online of recent TV shows. Now the video stops every time it comes to the built-in ads. Has an update of Firefox installed an ad blocker that's making it impossible for me to watch TV videos (of recent TV shows at the network websites) without getting stopped every time an ad comes on. If I jump ahead to a point AFTER the ads, then sometimes, it WILL play the ads so the ads aren't blocked "after the fact".

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
* Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

IMovie stopped importing video - Why?

I started importing from a Sony VCR mini DV camera using a FireWire 800/400 Cable 9/4 as recommended by Apple staff.
It started importing a video (worked just fine) but stopped when I plugged the camera into a mains supply (probably should've plugged it in beforehand, I know). Now it won't recognise the film on the tape at all despite closing down, unplugging the camera, restarting my iMac.......
What am I doing wrong please?

Your camera may not work with your Mac, contrary to what the store employee said. but don't take my word for it. Instead, contact Sony to see whether you can get help from them. Good Luck!

Imovie 09 How do I stop Imovie from auto importing video from iphoto.
Hi I've done a lot of searches on how to do this but no answers found.
Imovie is beginning to become really slow because of the large number of video's. It takes 3 minutes to startup. Editing is sometimes slow lot's of spinning beach balls e.t.c.
I would like to only import the video I want to edit and hopefully get a quicker Imovie in the process.
My Iphoto library is about 95 Gbyte in size.
My mac has 4 gb ram and I use the internal disk.
Any other ways to work with Imovie/Iphoto are also welcome.

I won't get iMovie 9 till Tuesday, but based on what you said I may need to take some precautions. One reason I didn't like iMovie 8 is because it automatically imported everything in iPhoto library. What I'm going to do is create a new iPhoto library before importing the photos/videos from the camera. Or if you already have it in your main iPhoto library copy only the photos you'll use in your iMovie 9 project to the new library. Then start iPhoto while pressing the option key which will allow you to select the new iPhoto library you have created. Then I suppose that when you start iMovie 9 it will automatically import only the photos/videos from the new library.

Firefox stops responding every 10 mins or so

Firefox keeps continually not responding every 10 min or so. It happens when doing pretty much anything--videos, Flash games, or just viewing a web page. This has been going on for about a month now and is very annoying. I'm considering switching to Chrome. Please help!

I can't upload or import videos from my iphoto library, into final cut pro x. When i click, IMPORT MEDIA in FCP, It lists iPhoto Library as GRAY, and will not let me access it. I need the videos out of there. I have tried every way I can think of.

I have also tried from the iphoto side, to export the videos or share them to final cut. I have had no luck.
I have tried to drag and drop indidual video clips from iphoto to fcp, and the programs simply do not respond to each other
I can see in the OLDER version of final cut pro x, where it has IMPORT FILES as an option, it was possible. I see this on forums and youtube videos of the older versions.
However, the newer version that i have, does not have IMPORT 'FILES' as an option, it is simply all lumped together as IMPORT 'MEDIA'

at the end, you say "import preferences", which program are you describing?
So im safer using footage that is remotely being pulled from iphoto...
vs
using footage that is imported into FCP from imovie?
Is there anything i can do in fcp to make this footage more reliable or safer or more stable as i pull remotely from iphoto?
All the footage, and all the libraries to all programs, or on a new pegasus 12tb raid 5 setup fyi.
