Importing video to iPod

Hey there, i really need some help! im trying to put some mp4 vids to my iPod bu i cant i tried converting, syncing, lots of other stuff also when i drag the vid to the iPod its wont appear there and when i convert it the video is all blank and white whille u could still hear the audio

I think the video converter build into itunes 9.1.1 is very buggy. I tried to convert video files within itunes as well and I had the same results. In fact, iTunes corrupted my Quicktime X preferences preventing QT X from playing any video files. I had to go into my "(home folder)/Library/Preference" folder and remove all the Quicktime preferences, any file that has "com.apple.quick..." and "QuickTime Preferences", then restart the computer to fix the problem. To get the file to m4v which is the only format I know of that the iphone/ipod can read, I had to convert the mp4 files using Export in Quicktime 7 Pro. I called applecare, and they informed me that iTunes video converter could be buggy.
Hope this helps...

What video codecs are you trying to import? The absolute best thing is to use QuickTime and export the video for your iPod. If you use QT and use the File drop down menu and then click on export it will give you that option.
Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
Hence the need for 3rd party software as per Niel's recommendation.

  • Advice needed on importing photos and videos onto iPod.

    Hi,
I am off travelling round the world for 6 months next year. I love taking a riducolous amount of pics and I was wondering what the best device to get them onto my ipod is. Also i want to be able to import videos as well. I have a sony T9 and the upgraded 5th gen iPod.
    Thanks
    Archie

Hi, I did some research and figured it out, and thought I'd post my results here in case it can help someone else someday.
There are two ways to get photos out of Picasa: Exporting and Backing Up.
If you export photos, they all show up flattened-out in one folder. While this would technically work, the downside is iPhoto will suddenly have thousands of photos added to it and I'm not really sure how it will figure out the events (I didn't try importing into iPhoto yet).
If you use Picasa's Backup feature (Tools->Back up pictures) then all the photos show up with their folder hierarchies preserved. So for example you could end up with a folder containing the following folders and photos.
    Vacation Photos
    Vacation Photos/Hawaii 2009/
    Vacation Photos/Hawaii 2009/pic1.jpg
    Vacation Photos/Hawaii 2009/pic2.jpg
    Vacation Photos/New York 2008/
    Vacation Photos/New York 2008/pic1.jpg
    Vacation Photos/New York 2008/pic2.jpg
    etc.
From what I've read, if the "Vacation Photos" folder is imported into iPhoto, the folder names will be used as events, so in this example you'll end up with a "Hawaii 2009" event and a "New York 2008" event, which is nice.
As far as Picasa's Backup tool goes, it will create one or more top-level folders with names starting with a dollar sign. These represent the top-level folders containing photos. On the computer I tested this on I ended up with $Desktop, $My Documents, and $My Pictures, because all the photos on this computer were inside of the Desktop, My Documents, and My Pictures folders (and their children).
So in a nutshell, if you want to migrate from Picasa on Windows to iPhoto, just use Picasa's "Back Up Pictures" menu item if you want to preserve the folder hierarchy of your photos. Oh, one last thing: this feature doesn't let you back up to the same hard drive as the photos, so just share a folder on either your Mac or your PC and then back up to that folder.
Hope somebody finds this information useful.

  • Videos from iPod not importing on Mac pc

SSo we recently bought a Mac pc and I was using iMovie and was completely new to it, so I go and plug my iPod into the Mac and all goes well, go onto import videos on iMovie, but when chose the video I have imported, it doesn't pop up in the editing part or anything, please help, thanks✨Xo

    This is not true.
The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. the exception is itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
You need to use your backup copy of your computer to put everything back.

  • Can't import video (.mp4) to itunes 10.5, pls help

I can't import video (.mp4 & .mov) to itunes 10.5.2.11 (can't both drag & down and add file to library).
I searched many ways to solve in google with myself , but still not work
    Pls help -.-"

MOV is a container format which may contain all kinds of codec, while iTunes only import MOV whose video codec is DV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, or AIC.
Even if the MOV meet the above requirement and supported and playable in iTunes, it will still fail to sync to iPod/iPad/iPhone/Apple TV if the MOV video does not fit the specification like resolution, bit rate, aspect ratio, size, and audio codec of the iPod/iPad/iPhone/Apple TV.
In order to successfully import MOV to iTunes as well as sync MOV to Apple TV, iPod, iPhone, iPad, we have better convert the MOV video to a more compatible video format.

  • Can't import videos to iTunes!??

I've been trying to import videos to itunes and for some reason they just won't go in! I have tried dvdrips and already converted to mp4 files on my harddrive, i've even downloaded the sample movie from the apple website to try and import that.
When i go to import in the fille menu, find the file and click choose absolutely nothing happens. the finder window closes and thats it. the same happens for add to library function. i have the most up to date version of itunes and my brother has the same mac ipod and itunes version and can do it just fine exactly the same way as i am trying. pretty frustrating can anyone help?? pleases?

Have you tried using the Finder? Just drag the video files onto Library in the sidebar. iTunes can be unresponsive - don't drop the files until Library (or Movies) turns blue and you see a green dot with a plus sign on your cursor.
Once your movies are in iTunes, you can convert them to iPod format. Select the movie under Movies, then choose Advanced > Convert Selection to iPod.

  • Can somebody help me? Can't import videos that are already on my hard drive

i'm not the most technologically adept person. When it comes to iTunes, i plain stupid.
for some reason i can't import videos on my hard drive.
they are set to open in iTunes and if i double click on them, iTunes comes up and switches to the video screen, but it does not show the name in the list or play the video or anything. It's driving me nuts. Especially since i was considering buying an iPod video in the near future. But theres no point in even bothering if i can't get the videos into iTunes!!! If you know how to help my situtation or have any good tips let me know!!

You do not use the 'Import' function under the File Menu to import P2 card content because the video content is still in its native form. For example, my Panasonic HPX 171 produces .MXF video files (amongst all the other files and folders within the overall heirarchy).
In order to access the copied P2 information you have to Log & Transfer it, as if it were a camera plugged into the computer. This process then converts the MXF P2 files into a Quicktime format that the Final Cut application can read and work with.
Take note that when archiving a P2 card as you did it is imperative that ALL the other files and folders are copied and saved. In other words, the entire 'CONTENTS' folder. It is this 'CONTENTS' folder that you navigate to within Log & Transfer when you want to import to FCP.

  • Please help me.  I cannot import videos into itunes library

I have read the manual's entries on doing this and nothing seems to be working. It won't let me import my own videos into the itunes library for me to convert to a file recognized by ipod. I have a 5th generation ipod. I am doing everything it tells me to do and still nothing. I have called technical support and they won't help me because I didn't purchase the videos through itunes. I have tried to click and drag the file and it won't let me do it even though the manual says that's what to do. when I look into the movies tab it is blank. When I put a dvd in my drive to copy to itunes library it doesn't even show up. I am going crazy and am about to return this if I can't get this figured out.

  • Import videos not working?

    Hi,
I had to format my windows pc a while ago and ever since I installed itunes in it, I can't import videos to my library. I've tried several formats (including itunes and ipod-specific formats), I've tried updating my itunes several times, uninstalling it and installing it again, and every method of adding files (dragging, add file, etc), but nothing works. I can add music and pdf files, and I can still find my photo files, but I can't import videos, or if they're being imported, they won't show in any single library or playlist or smart playlist. I've asked my friends with the same pc and itunes version about this and they don't have any problems.
Is there any way to fix this? Am I doing something wrong?
    Thank you,

  • Transferring videos to ipod

i imported videos into itunes and they are all the right kind (.mp4) and they play fine in itunes but when i try to upload them on to my ipod it says it's working but the files dont show on the ipod. and everytime i try to synch my ipod it keeps trying to upload these files to no avail. it doesnt show an error message, i just cant see the files. i was once able to put some videos on but i have no idea what i did. any suggestions?
      Windows XP

I recently downloaded the videora program. It does convert .mpg files into .mp4. But I tried converting a larger file (full lenght DVD in .mpg format) I noticed that the video and audio were not in sync. I tried a couple of different settings both in the videora program and the program I use for ripping the DVD and so far everything I have tried seems to make it worse. So I have given up on videora and since downloaded a program from http://www.cucusoft.com/ This program (cucusoft iPod video converter & DVD to iPod converter suite) lets you rip DVD's to the format that the iPod recognizes (no converting). It also lets you convert video files such as .mpg ect... to the iPod format. It comes at a price of roughly $40. So far so good with this program. Great video and great sound and they are in sync. Note: you can download a free version just to try it out, the only thing is they put a watermark on the video, but a least you get to see what it can do with no risk.

  • Help with importing videos

Hey all, just got a brand new iPod 30 GB video.
first off, I made sure it was updated with my Vista system, so there wouldn't be any problems. Works perfect, but when I imported a .mpg-4 video, it wouldn't immediately import. no biggie, right? I just used that "right click- convert to iPod" selection. then, I placed the small 5 minute music video into my iPod.
Here's where my issues start. Why is it incredibly laggy? you can hear the audio perfectly, but the video just doesn't seem to catch up. Any tips???

It may need to be converted using a 3rd party converter.
