Importing Video via USB??

How can I import video vith sound via USB? I have some family cassets and I bought this analog to digital converter but it is for PC I tought I can just plug it in and capture it with i-Movie but I was wrong. Is there any other way to do this? Please help.

Hi Roman,
welcome to this forum
iMovie is an edit app meant to work with firewire connected miniDV camcorders
so, a usb connected PCconverter will not be recognized by iM, and probably will not be recognized by any Mac app... Mac: there's coming in some data from some usb-device, what shall I do? help....
you can give the "image capture app" in your utilities folder a try, but I would be surprised, if THAT combo works... no, PChardware on a Mac... in many cases a NoGo....

  • Import Video via USB from Sony Handycam HDD

Just purchased Final Cut Express, eager to get to my first project. Plugged in my camera the only way possible (mini usb), my mac mini recognized the camera and I navigated using the import menu.
Finding the *.mpg files that are on my camera's hard drive I selected the ones I wanted and "chose". An error message appeared telling me that these *files were unrecognizable*.
Investigating, I found I could not open them in quicktime player - but could view them just fine using my favorite 3rd party player VLC.
I did a bit of google'ing to find I'm screwed. My research tells me that my camera writes them in a "multiplexed" encoding, which Quicktime can't read even though it's mpeg. One solution that was offered is to loop it through a composite dongle and rerecord all of my footage in real time - but that's not an option for me.
*How can I get my Sony Handicam HDD camera to import into FCE? Is their some free conversion software or drivers?*
    Thanks,
    Mitch

More frustration. I finished batching my footage for my project, and just as I lay the first scenes on the timeline and tell it to playback, I get this nasty "Unrendered" message in the player. I didn't add any effects or mess with settings, they're the same clips they just previewed for me - but now they're on the timeline where I need to work on them.
I remember reading that FCE's big feature was the whole "Real Time" feature, so I messed with the RT tab to find that it works, kind of, if I kick it into manual mode and cut my frame rate in half. Anything more and it gives me an error message that tells me I need to increase my compression or else switch back to Safe RT. *What and how do I increase compression?*
So is my Mac Mini doomed to be at 50% frames due to the lack of power? *Is it the processing speed, ram, or video card (or all) that's holding me back?*

  • Capture video via usb elgato or canopus

I can't find how to change my capture source, or even where the capture preferences is.
I'm trying to capture video in FCE using the Elgato usb analog in/usb out device (same thing happens with the canopus device) .
The device works fine with it's own software, but I need to get it going within FCE, and can't find the menu window to even select the source.
I'm sure it's something simple I'm overlooking, but thanks for your help.

FCE will not capture video via USB. With the DV Converter preset you can capture from a FireWire device. This is selected in Easy Setup.

  • Importing Video via AEBS

    Three basic question:
    1. Is it possible to import video from a camcorder into iMovie via AEBS simply (similar to connecting via USB)?
    2. Can the hard drive in my camcorder (MS-DOS fat32) be reformated without screwing up the the way the camcorder works?
    2. Why does the camcorder's hard drive act differently when connected via AEBS?
    Details:
I have a sony handycam sr42. Importing the video via the USB is simple. When I connect the camera it mounts automatically and shows an icon on the Desktop. When iMovie is turned on it automatically prompts importing and gives a new window with options for the import.
However, I tried connecting the camera via USB to a powered USB hub to AEBS. After mounting the camera's drive in FINDER it showed up with a green icon w/timemachine logo. Importing the video was a bit more complex. The video didn't show up for import when iMovie was turned on.
Also, I'm curious about how the drive on the Camcorder is formatted (MS-DOS fat32). Should it be reformatted?

One more thing, I would recommend importing your video to either your internal hard drive, or a firewire attached external drive formatted HFS+ journalled. A USB drive formatted HFS+ journalled and locally attached to your Mac via a USB port or a powered USB hub should work, too. But it will not perform as well as firewire.
The AEBS is OK for backup, but I don't think that iMovie will recognize it as a valid drive for video editing. And even if it did, the performance would likely not be good enough. The speeds of the wireless connection are not sufficient.

  • Import video via firewire not allowed by Face Time

I am trying to import video to my harddrive via firewire. Every time I open iMovie and click on the video camera icon the only device seen is the Face Time camera. There's a little drop down window but it only has Face Time as the option not my Sony DCR VX1000 video camera which is turned on to VCR mode to allow exporting of video content. Is there some way to get my camera recognized by the macbook or at least to disable Fact Time?

You might contact Sony for some technical assistance.  In the past they have not been Mac friendly.
    Ciao.

  • Can I transfer 720p video via USB cable

Hi Everyone, technology has changed so much since updating to my recent Pro Mac. I want to transfer my current video and pictures from my Nikon CoolPix L120 to FCP. I'm not sure what the best route to take would be. Either a memory Card  or hook my camera directly to the computer via USB cable. The footage I want to trasfer is 720P. Mainly I want to transfer the footage to clear my card to store and clear space to record more footage of family events. Thank You all for your time. Oh yeah can USB handle a trasfer of 720p or will I need a HDMI or component to accomplish this task
    Thanks
    Jeff

Sure it can do it...all you'll be doing is copying over the contents of the card.  Like you do any other data file.  Make a new folder on your hard drive (separate from your system drive...this will be your ARCHIVE drive), and then drag and drop the ENTIRE CONTENTS of the SD card.  Keep everything intact.  That's all you do...copy.
BUT THEN...you need to transcode that to ProRes, as FCP will not work with the files as they exist now. It might seem like it will, but it won't.  use Compressor or MPEG STREAMCLIP to convert to ProRes, and put those files on yet ANOTHER drive (media drive) for editing.

  • Import video via iMovie and play iTunes simultaneously...?

Yo there, Mac forum! I'm a new Mac user and am pretty dang psyched to be posting my first question. I love my new PowerBook. woo!
So I'm in an improv comedy troupe and I use the PowerBook to play music and sound effects during our shows. I also video tape every show for us to watch at a later date to analyze our performance (like football coaches do). I would like to stream the video directly to my Mac, so at the end of the show I'll have a digital version of the show nullifying the need to perform the intermediate step of digitizing it from the cam sometime later.
Now, using iTunes to play music during the show is simple. Also, using iMovie to copy video from the DV out of my cam to the hard drive is also simple as cake. The TRICKY part is doing both at exactly the same time as they both send audio signal to the minijack output (or speakers). That causes not only the iTunes music and/or sound effects to be played back thru to the stage, but also any sound that the camera picks up will also playback--which as any of you sound people out there know, causes some funky feedback and resonant effects since the cam is also picking up the iTunes tunes and sounds. Phew.
SOOO, does anyone know how I can can capture live video to my harddrive (to a file or movie project) where it does NOT send audio to the notebook speakers or minijack out so that I can utilize iTunes to be playing the music for the show while the video (with it's audio) is streaming into the mac "behind the scenes" in the background?
A lifetime of free tickets to our shows if you help me solve this!

Oh, in the "old" days importing video was a sacred moment -- you carefully optimized the system and hoped for the best when importing with NOTHING else running on the system... Nowadays people switch to www-surfing, iTunes, or some heavy weight apps during import/export.
...And that's the way it should be! Unfortunately not every system can take such a load so there may still be hiccups and dropped frames or even dropped footage.
But to the original question: How does iMovie's volume slider affect iTunes playback. If you turn iMovie's volume down (in the import mode), does it mute also iTunes? If yes, then you may have to get another device to play the music.

  • Capture Video via USB

I have a Samsung camcorder with a USB output, not firewire. How can I retrieve the video from the harddrive of the Camcorder onto my Mac?

I don't know how to do that with USB. I only find Firewire presets for importing. Argh

  • Importing DV  via  USB  with Sony DCR-HC36

I used two cameras recently to get different angles on the same shoot. One was the Sony DCR-HC36. I have also connected an external drive to have more space. But since I am using a MacBook Pro I only have one fire wire port so i am trying to use the USB port to import the film. Can I do this?
Would appreciate any suggestions as to how I can solve this problem.
    B

You can't use the USB from the camera. You should try daisy-chaining the camera through the drive. If the drive has two FW ports you should be able to do that.

  • Import video from usb video device

Looking for the cleanest way to upload and organize video clips from Flip Ultra HD to use in iMovie. Former PC user, new to Mac.

My Pinnacle Dv500 came bundled with Premiere 6.0 which I updated to 6.02... and I also updated the Dv500 driver software from the V3 to V4.5a so it would save in "standard" DV AVI Type 2 48khz files, instead of the ones that required the Dv500 codec to edit
When I bought a new computer and started using WinXp instead of the Win2000 that came with my Alienware Pentium3, I could never get Premiere 6 to work... would start, flash a screen or two, and then just go away
I then bought Scenalyzer, since it was compatible with the Dv500 (still had to have P6 and Dv500 drivers installed) but it turned out to be very FRAGILE as any slightest glitch on the tape would stop the program... and since some of what I'm doing is capturing my OLD library of VHS tapes, that simply wouldn't do
My current solution is a dual boot drive with Win2k/WinXp
Premiere 6 captures EVERYTHING in the Win2k partition... files saved to 2nd drive... and then I use PProCS3/Encore3 for editing and DVD creation
Just a "bit" of a hassle to have to restart between capture & edit/dvd... but much better than Scenalyzer stopping every time an old movie hit a rough spot in the tape... rough spots that capture just fine with P6

  • Importing audio via USB

  • Can't import RAW Files via usb

I bought a canon eos 5D a couple of days ago. I don't know why but I can't import the raw files from the usb connection. When I press the eos 5D button from the import dialogue, the lightroom says "no files were found to import". Everything works perfect with an external reader but I do want to import them via usb. I don't want to be removing the card too often.
Can anybody help me or guide me to a possible solution?. Zoombrowser works fine and imports without problem. I love lightroom and don't understand why I can't import via usb. It's strange but it doesn't happen with jpg files. With those, I got no problem.

  • TZ20 (ZS10) import videos on iPad 2 via camera connection kit?

I have a Panasonic TZ20 (ZZ10) which takes HD movies in AVC format (.mts files).
I have an iPad 2 and am thinking of getting the camera connection kit and iMovie for iOS. My question is I know the. CCK will import full resolution the still photos, but will it also import the videos, and can I then import them to iMovie for editing? I want to use this direct method, ie TZ20>CCK>iPad 2>iMovie.
Has anyone had success in importing videos via CCK from a compact camera? Do they play fine on iPad 2? Can you see them in photo/video roll? Do they have to be converted via iPad 2 import 1st?
    Cheers

...will it also import the videos, and can I then import them to iMovie for editing? I want to use this direct method, ie TZ20>CCK>iPad 2>iMovie.
    No.
iMovie for iOS ONLY work for video shot on an ipod, iPhone or iPad.
Or video converted to a format that is the same as that shot by iOS devices.
Has anyone had success in importing videos via CCK from a compact camera?
I have tried, but it just does not accept video that is not mp4, 720P.
You will have to convert on a computer.
And while you are there you might as well edit it on the computer as it has more space, more speed, and can edit better.

  • I can not import video frames in photoshop elements 12

    Hello,
I want to import video frames (for making an animated gif). The instructions how to do this in elements is clear (Go to File, choose Import, choose video frames), but I don't see that last option in the menu... See screenshot.
(I tried to import video via Organizer but that is not possible either)
    So what to do?
    Thanks for any help.
    Robert

Frame from video was removed because it was just too old and not useful for what video is like today. It was designed to grab a frame from those short tiny videos that early digital cameras made, you know the ones that could record about 30 seconds of video at 300 x 400. It was never any good at longer videos and couldn't do HD at all, so adobe removed it because it was becoming more of a problem than a solution. It is not in any language version of PSE 12.

  • Solved! NTFS-3G Issue on Mac Maverick when plugging a hard drive via USB

This issue can be solved in less than 5 minutes, but it is not free. if you are willing to sort it out once and for good, read on, it’s well worth it!
“I love my Mac!”, that is a common expression you might hear everyday, but not many people are willing to admit that Macs really suck and become a nightmare the moment you plug a hard drive, new or filled with those important files, via USB. Apparently most commercial backup hard drives are formatted with Windows file systems by default and Macs will only be able to read the contents of these discs after properly formatting them on Mac.
I have 3 external hard drives filled with mp4 movies and uni files, and formatting is absolutely a no-no here. So I was forced to open those files using the Windows virtual machine (via Parallel) in my Mac, which really ***** too. According to the many websites I visited for solution, you either had to buy some apps or die with that NTFS-#G error message when plugging a USB hard drive. There is also an encouragement to either format the drives on Mac before you can use, and again, in my case, this is impossible.
“NTFS-3G could not mount /dev/disk1s1 at /Volumes/Vuakalevu because the following problem occurred: dyld:
Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libfuse.2.dylib Referenced from: /usr/local/bin/ntfs-3g
    Reason: image not found”
I think I just solved that issue once and for all, but nothing comes for free, as in anything with Mac computers. The “Paragon NTFS for Mac OSX”, which cost me $19.99 from their official website seems to have sorted me out, now I can plug any hard drive, no matter the format, and Maverick will read it as it should (read and write). Well worth it, and i do recommend it.
This was originally posted in my website, so feel free to come around if you like.
    http://journalsfromoceania.com/solved-ntfs-3g-external-drive-issue-solved-for-19 -99/

Hi Linc Davis, yep! i did everything according to read me, tried all free ones, only made it worse. uninstalled the whole lot, didnt work either. I read around in forums the same thing "simply remove the app causing this issue and it will be sorted" didnt work for me. this Paragon sorted me out after 2 years of external hard drive issues. Im not sure if your reply was an assertion or a question though. cheers
