Importing video with correct date

I'm having issue importing videos into iphoto with the original date of the video. I'm importing from a canon vixia HFS10, when i tried it a month or so back it went into iphoto correctly, with the original date but now whenever i try it, even with the same videos that worked date wise before, it only imports into iphoto with the date that i actually imported it with.
Any ideas?
I know you can alter the date via the edit options, but this seems a bit backward when i know, somehow, that i can import the video automactially with the date.

i only imported the videos from the same camera, one time they went with the date it was taken, the other time i tried a couple of weeks later it only imported with the date of import so it's not the camera

  • Videos in iPhoto used to export with correct date, no they don't.

Hello, I use iPhoto a lot. About every 6 months I rename and export my photos and videos to a separate portable hard drive for safe storage.
I am doing that right now, but have noticed that my videos do not export with the correct date (changes the date to the export date), and therefore the videos are not going to be in the right order, and will not have the correct date on my backup files. The pictures export properly with correct date. Just the videos are the problem.
This problem did not exist before. What has changed? Is there a way to export my videos and retain the correct date again?
    Thank you!

Thank you for the quick reply Terence!
Is this something new for Maverick, or new iPhoto update? I have always been able to export video with the correct date. Even when I imported it back into iPhoto later, the correct date was there. I think I updated to Maverick after my last renaming and exporting session.
I have found that if I drag the video from iPhoto to my desktop, it keeps the correct date on the file and the video is intact. So there must be some sort of "metadata" in the file that has the correct date?? You probably have the knowledge to experiment with this??
Just seems weird, because for years it was just fine. Now it is not.
How did the videos used to keep the correct date?
    Thank you.

  • IPhoto imports photos with wrong dates even if the dates are fine on the camera

    Hi!
When I import photos with iPhoto, sometimes it imports them with wrong dates, even the dates are fine on the camera. It puts dates such as 2032. Does anyone know how can I fix that. As far as I know there is no way to change dates of the photos.
    Thanks!

well that is very confusing since if the date is correct on the camera it will be correct in iPhoto
    and as to
As far as I know there is no way to change dates of the photos.
Try looking through your iPhto menus - two commands - adjust time and date and batch change time and date - asjust is used to correct incorrect dates like a comera setting -   Batch change for missing dates like with scans

iphoto 9.5.1 will not import videos with .mpg extension from my pictures folder and keep getting a OSStatus error-54. Is there a way I can import such videos to the iphone library? Pls help.

This is what that error means:
    -54
    permErr
Software lock on file; Not a subscriber [permissions error on file open]
Download and launch  BatChmod.  Put the videos into a subfolder and drag that folder containing the video files into the Batchmod window.  Make sure you are the owner and have R,W, X access as well as the group.  Everyone will have R only.
Check the Change ownership and privileges, Unlock and Apply to enclosed boxes and then click on the Apply button.  When done try importing the files again.

    Hello:
My name is Oren. I´m from Spain, and this is my problem.
One month ago I bought a Toshiba Satellite 850-31M. It has an x64 processor, 16 GB of RAM and I have 2 hard drives, the c: an SSD of 500 GB and other of 1 Tb hardisk, configured as D:. It has a GeForce GT 630M graphics card with 2 GB of RAM. W8 operating system.
I wanted to try the Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and I downloaded the trial version. No problem, until I tried to import a video in the source window. Appears a small window that says "importing" and give to play in the source window and start .Audio be heard, but not the image. I've tried different video formats and always the same. The same video are seamlessly Quick Time and other video viewers ..... I do not know what to do, I think I've tried everything, even restart the computer to its factory settings and install Adobe Premiere vacuum and the problem remains. I tested with a trial of Premiere CS5.5 and got it. You hear the audio but no video . Insert the video in the timeline and recognizes it as such, even the first frame, but said, is not seeing in the "source", nor in the preview, only the audio.
What could it be? Am I you could lend a hand I'm desperate?

  • Importing video with sound to GarageBand 2.0 and iOS 7.0.4

Importing video with sound to GarageBand 2.0 and iOS 7.0.4
My daughter has an iPad 2 with GarageBand 2.0 and iOS 7.0.4.  She would like to import a video file which has a sound track on it to GarageBand for iPad so that she can add an additional sound track to it.  The video/audio file to be imported would be in AVI, MPEG2 or another iPad compatible format.  Is this possible? If so, how would the mechanics work?  Would you: (1) load the file into the Movies section of iTunes and import the file from the Movies section of iTunes; (2) save the file onto an SD card and import the video/audio file from the SD card by inserting the SD card into an "SD adaptor" on an "iPad Camera Connection Kit"; or (3) email the video file to yourself and upload it to GarageBand from email?

This is part of a mobile training application and I allow the learner to record an audio response in addition to viewing the videos.  When they record a response, you can hear the playback so the device has its volume up and working when the app is running.  Since I posted this issue, I switched to .flv video and that plays ok.  It's apparently the .mp4 video that's a problem.  I'm encoding it with ffmpeg and suspect that it's something with the settings.   Do you have a recommendation for mp4 settings for OSMF?

  • Import video with audio question

When I start a new project and import a video with audio, then drag to the timeline , it puts the latter on audio 4 track instead of track 1. Why is it skipping 3 tracks?

. Thanks Bill.  It was a mono track and the 3 above were stereo.  I deleted the 3 empty tracks and now it is below the video directly.  What I am also wondering about is why the video track can be widened vertically,by dragging the bottom border and the previous audio 1 track could be also, but this one can not.  Is it not possible to see the waveform as I can when I imported an audio file in a different project?  That one was expandable veritically. There was no video in that one.

  • Playing imported video with button

So I'm working on a project that requires me to click a transparent button in the Flash presentation and have an imported video appear, play, and then disappear. I've scoured the internet but can't for the life of me find what I'm looking for. Would someone be willing to give me a hand. I'm new to Flash and this honestly sounds easy enough but I can't for the life of me figure it out.

  • Flickering video with correct field order? help!

On the moment I've got a long term running problem.
I've got a uncompressed 8bit quicktime movie, saved using the sheer video codec with adobe's premiere pro on a machine running windows.
I convert this file to a m2v file so I can import it in DVDSP and burn it on a DVD. When viewed on a CRT (tv) monitor, all movement 'flickers' awkward. This seemed to me a clear case of wrong interlacing. After checking this didn't seem to be the problem, field choice was correctly set to 'bottomfield', the right choice for PAL interlaced video.
My second thought was this could be a windows-mac misinterpretation of some kind. Therefore I encoded the sheer uncompressed file another time to a uncompressed file using compressor, and then compressed it to a mpeg2 file. This didn't help; the video was still flickering on TV.
I thought, in this case, compressor somehow wasn't able to make it bottomfield, so I started trying all kinds of combinations and software to get the stuff lower field.
Two things helped. The first was to de-interlace the material in compressor, but this isn't the nicest option when your base-material is interlaced.
The second was to import the uncompressed sheer file into Adobe's After Effects (interpret as: lower field interlaced) and exporting it as uncompressed progressive; compressing this file to mpeg 2 (interlaced: lower field) using compressor solved the problem. hurrah!
    But then another problem arose..
When interpreting the material as lower field in AE, the titles at the end of the movie turned really ugly, like a mouse had bitten small bits out of them..
This didn't occur when the material is interpreted as progressive, but when this is rendered to a 8bit uncompressed quicktime file, and then compressed to mpeg2 using compressor the movement flickering turns up again on CRT monitors.
The (base)material is full of strokes when viewed in Quicktime and filmed using a Betacam SP camera PAL, so it can't be progressive.
Is there another explanation for the flickering except from wrong interlacing?
So yes, How do I solve this? (with compressor)
So no, How can it that the flickering still occurs even when I export on fields: lower with compressor?
I hope that someone can help me cause it's really eating my nerves now..
(ps I hope that I didn't make to much faults in my english..)

  • [CS4] importing video with xdv8 codec...

Okay, I am on a windows version of premiere pro CS4. I am not very experienced with the software, so this could be amazingly obvious/simple, or it may truly be as hard as I am finding it to be. I need to import a video file, currently a .mov. I believe but am not certain that it was made on an Apple with Final Cut Pro. Premiere gives me a missing codec error.
When I try to play the file in most of my video players, including QuickTime, I get a missing or unsupported codec error (the sound generally plays fine, though - just the video is missing). One of my players actually named the codec, I believe... saying there was an error with xdv8 codec. So I did some googling, and found that mplayer has that codec.
So I download and install the latest mplayer for windows (SMPlayer to be precise), and it plays the video fine. However I still cannot import this video into Premiere. And the SMPlayer doesn't offer an export, save as, etc. function.
I found all of the codec .dll files that the SMPlayer uses, but have no idea how (if it is possible) to get Premiere to recognize them... and I am not sure which it is, as none of them have xdv8 in the title.
Is there a way to import a codec into premiere if it is not part of a codec installer package?
Does anyone know where I can get a codec installer package for Premiere that includes the xdv8 codec?
Is there any other way to work around this issue?
    Thanks!!!

One of my players (VLC Player, from Video Lan) gave an error stating that the xdv8 codec was missing or not supported. A ton of googling later found that the MPlayer does support the codec - and when I installed said MPlayer (the SMPLayer GUI for windows), I can play the video.
My issue is that the video comes from an indirect source; my client (I am a web designer, this client has a lot of streaming video on the site) has the videos created by a "professional" local studio... who is (in my opinion) anything but pro. I have no direct contact with them, and when I ask for anything to be done, such as getting the video in a different format, it can take weeks or longer before I get a response. So since I have Premiere, I started doing my own editing of the videos to get them web ready. The videos are being shot for TV (they get broadcast on the Fox Business Network)... so I have no idea if this codec is best (or even good) for that medium, but I need to convert it into 3 various sized flv files for web streaming.
UPDATE: I now see that the codec is ffmpeg2, and the 'format' is xdv8. I have no idea what that means!
    When I get properties through the SMPlayer, I see the following info;

  • Importing Video with AC3 encoding

    Hi,
I am completely new to FCE 4.0. For years, I've been using my Sony DVD Camcorder (DCR-DVD403) to capture my raw footage. The camcorder an onboard Dolby Digital AC3 encoder which I use all the time. I import the video to my PC since using the Sony Picture Perfect software to preserve the AC3 encoding. However, when I import it into FCE 4.0, the video plays fine but I get now audio whatsoever.
Any ideas how to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Randy

Thanks for the tip. I ended up using the MPEG Streamclip function "DEMUX to M2V and AC3" to divide the original video file into a discrete video (.m2v) and audio (.ac3) file. I then imported into FCE 4. I was not sure how to load the two files into the Preview window, so I instead chose to drag each file separately into the Sequence window. To get all 6 audio channels I had to add 2 more audio channels prior to loading. FCE requires that you render the entire clip first after completing the render, I was able to replay the clip with full 6 channel Dolby Digital.
There is still one thing that I cannot figure out. Which audio channel corresponds to its respective audio output (ie. A1 = Front Left, A2 = Right Left, A3 = Centre, ...).
    Anyone know the answer?
    Thanks,
    Randy

  • LR Import organization with visible date/time

The new LR3 Import interface has proven to be a challenge for the workflow of my business application.
I take numerous shots throughout my work day of a variety of subject matter that subsequently needs to be imported and grouped by client name. I delegate the import duties to a staff member.  The task requires that the staff member orginize the images in the import process into separate subfolders named for each client.  The staff member views the image thumbnails in the import interface, selects the appropriate images to import for each client with the "Check Box" functionality, and names an output folder for the imported images in the Destination panel (with "Organize: Into one folder" designated.)
Here is the problem: our workflow requires that we perform the import process only occasionally through out the day--which necessitates handling and separating the images of multiple clients.  While LR3 does display thumbnails on the import, it no longer initially displays a list that shows the date and time of the image capture.  LR2 used to display an initial list that showed the date and time.  It was easy for my staff member to determine which images belonged to which client after the fact by coordinating capture time with client appointment time.  That ability is now removed.
I realize there are "work arounds" possible including using separate CF cards for each client or shooting an initial frame of the clients name.  While minor, these steps seem to be unnecessary inconveniences.  I would much prefer to rely on the software for the solution.
I noticed that a "rollover" with the mouse temporarily displays the date and time of the capture. Since LR has the capture info readily available, my enhancement request would be simply to display the date and time of the capture on the image border frame.  This would eliminate the need to rollover to view the data and would make our import organization easier and more streamlined.  (For those users who might feel that this creates too much "clutter" in their initial viewing of images to be imported, the feature could be made a "user preference" that could be toggled on and off . . .like data preferences selected in view options selected with Ctrl-J and toggled with keyboard shortcut I).

Sorry but you're going to need to explain that again.

  • Cant Importing video with superdrive

I have alwase used the firewire to import with without problems,I reciently tried to import with the superdrive and also to drag and drop video folders without success. I know the answer must be obovious but not to me. thanks for helping. Hardhead

The files on a DVD are in the final (standard) DVD format of mpeg2, which is heavily condensed and not intended for editing. It therefore involves some quality loss to import those files, convert them, and import them into iMovie. But it can be done:
Insert the DVD in your superdrive, and double click the icon. You now have a folder containing lots of odd sounding files.
You need to convert those VOB files back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, as well as the the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
(Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal. )
Once they are converted to DV you can import them into iMovie.
