Importing with Panasonic PV-GS32

Over the last few months I've imported hours of video footage from my Panasonic PV-GS32. One day last week I was only able to import for about 10 minutes before it stopped. I tried a few extra times with no luck, then waited a day and tried again and it worked. A week later I only get about 3 seconds of importing before it stops and won't go any further. I've tried the following with no luck: a new account within my iMac; a different fire wire port; a new fire wire cable; shutting down and unplugging my iMac.
Any other ideas or has anyone had difficulty importing with a Panasonic PV-GS32 lately?

Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
I wonder how full your Mac's hard disc is. Digital Video needs about 13GB of space per hour of recording time. So that's about 6.5GB per half hour of tape, or about 2GB of space per 10 minutes.
If there's not much empty space left on your disc, there may not be room to store much video.
If your disc is full from "..importing hours of video.." you may need to get an external FireWire disc for storing more material. If you do buy an external disc, you'll need to plug it in, go to Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility, then select your new disc and click the 'Erase' tab in Disk Utility, and format the new external disc as "Mac OS Extended" ..otherwise it won't work correctly with iMovie.

  • How to import with Panasonic PV-GS120? (Or similar model...)

    Hello
My brother just got his first Mac, and was very excited to use the new iMovie with his Panasonic PV-GS120 DV camera. However, he has had some trouble importing video with it -- consistently getting a "Communication Error."
We got it to import one time, by just switching settings (from PC mode to PlayBack while, and it suddenly worked). But it didn't seem to recognize when first in either mode.
Can anyone tell us the "correct" way to import with this camera in iMovie?
What mode should it be in? When should it be plugged in, etc.
Any tips are appreciated. They will help a new Mac user get the most out of his machine.
    Thanks.
    Matthew Marshall

The camera should be set to playback mode, and you have to use a FireWire cable. iMovie will import the DV footage from the camera in realtime.

  • Importing with Panasonic AG-DVC30

I am having a huge loss of quality when importing into FCP. I have changed the settings a few times and can not figure out where I am loosing my quality. I normally import miniDV/HDV with a Sony HVR-M25U. But right now, I have to use my camera (Panasonic AG-DVC30) to import the footage. I know the camera isn't the best, but I can not seem to import the quality I know it is shooting. When I had used the HVR-M25U it looked pretty good. But I can't seem to get that same quality while using the camera. Are there any importing ideas/remedies to fix this? My settings now for importing are Format: DV/Panasonic DVCPRO; Rate: 29:97; and Use: DV-NTSC FireWire Basic.
I can control the camera fine, but just the lack of quality. I am learning these things now, so any help would be great, thanks.

I am monitoring it through my MacBook Pro and a dual screen which is a HD Plasma. (but it looks like crap on both).
How is that Plasma connected to the MBP? DVI? Firewire through your camera or deck? Matrox MXO?
If it is connected through the DVI port then it is gonna look like cr@p. It won't matter how you are capturing. For several reasons, one the DVI port is not sending a signal designed to be used with a TV. Two, I bet that your footage fills the screen, if so you are blowing up SD footage and watching it on a HD screen.
Would I be correct in saying that you added this HD Plasma at the same time that you switched from the Sony deck to your camera? If so, this has nothing to do with your deck. It has everything to do with how you are monitoring your footage.
    K
EDIT: If I am incorrect in my assumption, what happens when you capture some of the same footage using the Sony deck?

  • Problem importing with Panasonic GS-120

I am using a 17" iMac G5 along with a Panasonic GS-120 and up until yesterday, I have not had any problems. Now, iMovie or any of the other apps (Yahoo IM, iChat, Delicious Library) that were able to use the camcorder no longer function. When I go into the system profiler, the camera is not located, but it does take about 30 secs for the Mac to figure it out. If I open any app that can use the camcorder, I get the spinning beach ball and I have to force quit the app. If I turn off the camcorder, everything works.
I have tried two different firewire cables to rule out a cable problem, no luck. I was able to use it just fine on my PC, so I am pretty sure that it is not the camcorder. Does this indicate that I have a firewire issue? I followed Apple's suggestion of unplugging everything and waiting 3-5 minutes before restarting. That did not help. I have no other firewire devices or hubs connected, so I do not know what else to try.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Figan,
here's a long list from Apple of suggestions:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=43000
    and another one :
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88338
what would be my first step:
    unplug your Mac from powerline.
not just "switching off", no, really physically disconnect from powerline for 10 - 15min..... it sometimes "resets" the firewire-ports of the Mac....

  • AVCCAM Importer with FCPX and Panasonic HDC-TM900

Has anyone tried the new AVCCAM Importer from Panasonic with Final Cut Pro X and a Panasonic HDC-TM900 with 1080p video?
I have just started reading all of the posts on issues with TM900 and Final Cut Pro X with 1080p video and was hoping the new plugin from Panasonic may have helped!
My concern is the download only references Final Cut Pro and Quicktime 7.
    https://eww.pass.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/desk/e/avc_download.htm#avccamvm ac
I have a 2011 MacBook Pro which has Quicktime 10 and was hoping to buy FCPX but won't if I can't import my video properly.
I was even willing to go through a conversion process but in looking at all of the board posts, it seems that for the Panasonic TM900 with 1080p video, there are not any programs that will convert properly, i.e. one puts a green screen every second or there is video artifacts.
If the new plugin "AVCCAM Importer" does not help with the TM900 / 1080p video in FCPX, what alternatives do I have to edit HD 1080p video on my Mac??
Is there a conversion tool that has fixed the issues mentioned above or is there another video editor that will import the .mts files natively?
I don't want to go back to my PC if I can help it and I don't plan on making a feature film, just editing home videos onto Blue-ray as I used to do on my PC with Pinnacle Studio.
    Appreciate the feedback!!

  • Problem with Panasonic P2

I am new to this forum and hope someone can help me.
I shot video by Panasonic AG-HVX203 to shoot video in DVCPRO HD (1080/50i) format.  This is PAL format.  Video is stored in P2 card.  And then I import the MXF files to the timeline of Premiere CS4.  After edited, by the Dynamic Link sent to Encore which Project Preset is PAL 1440x1080 25.
With Encore, transcode the video with 1440x1080 25 Maximun Quality.  And then Build "Blu Ray Disc Image".  Finally, burn this Disc Image file to Blu Ray disc.
Play back this disc with Panasonic Blu Ray player BUT find out that the video resolution is 576p!!
I checked my workflow and tried many times to build different Disc Images.  But all blu ray disc is played back only with 576p quality.
I want to create a blu ray disc with 1080i quality.  What did I do wronly in my wrokflow?  Could you help?

    1.  Try encoding to Blu-Ray  (mpg2 or H.264) from Premiere using your 50i settings.
    2. Check the file after encoding to be sure it is 1440x1080 50i.
    3. Then start Encore and create a new HD project. Check under FILE, PROJECT SETTINGS that you have Blu-Ray selected with PAL 1440x1080 50i.
    4. Next import the Blu-Ray files you exported from Premiere into Encore.
    5. Burn your Blu-ray disk.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem while importing from Panasonic SDR-S10

After finding the panasonic SDR-S10 on the iMovie 08 compatibility list, I updated and bought the camera for quick video shots. While traveling, I filled three 2 GB cards with no techical problems. Importing them into iMovie though causes problems. About half of the clips are imported with sound, the rest without! I tried importing with the camcorder, a SD-card reader, onto my internal HD and HD2. Sound and picture is perfect on the camera. I use Quicktime pro but do not have the mpeg2 plugin. The camera compresse in mpeg2. Can anybody help?

I have the same camcorder and have used Visual Hub to convert the .mod clips to .dv files which work just fine with iMovie. You can try out Visual Hub for clips less than 2 minutes in length in the trial mode. I think it costs about $20. Also, I've heard you can buy an mpeg2 plug in for Quicktime Pro that will let you use those files. I think that is also about $20.
Also, search the apple discussions for ".mod" and you'll find a lot of other similar questions to the one you asked.
    Hope this helps.

  • 50fps conform with Panasonic SD700

I have a Panasonic SD700 which shoots at 50p and I use a lot for ski footage in slowmo, this works great.
With FCP 7 I would import the footage, convert to prores 422 and use Cinema tools to conform to 50fps.
When I now import to FCPX it seems to want to match it pack to the project rate of 25. I can Modify - Retime - 50% but I'm not sure as to what FCPX has done with the original 50P footage, has it just left it as is or applied frame blending or optical flow.
I would hope it has just left the 50fps as is, this footage looks great in its raw conformed state. This is why I got the camera.
As for import - hopefully Panasonic or somebody will bring out a plug-in to deal with this in a more direct way.

Reviving this old thread as I have the same issue - although I now think it may be a non-issue.  In FCP7 I was very used to sending 50p clips to Cinema Tools to reconform to 25fps and get very smooth slowmo.  I expected the same in FCPX but better - given that reconform is now built-in.  However, it doesn't appear to do anything (as this thread says).  So far so bad - until you look at 50p (or 60p) footage slowed down to 50%.  It's just as smooth as I ever got with the CT reconform approach, and in fact it seems to be identical.  I've tried reconforming a clip in CT and then watching the same clip (unreconformed) in FCPX slowed down to 50%.  There's zero difference to my eyes.

  • Import from Panasonic DMC-FZ28 Lumix

Trying to import from Panasonic DMC-FZ28 Lumix but the only import option is the
in-built camera on my MPB (10.5.7).
I can see the camera in the Finder window and can click on various photos.
When the camera was connected to the USB port and select the setting as PC Connection.
Is there something else I need to do in order for iMovie to see this camera ?
    Thank you,
    Jay

If you are using iPhoto, import the photos into iPhoto. Then, in iMovie, start a new Project and name it (or open and old project). Open the Photo Browser in iMovie, and drag the photos in from there.
If you are not using iPhoto, drag the jpegs from your camera to a folder in the Finder.
Open iMovie. Start a new project and name it (or open and old project). Drag and drop the photos from the Finder window into your project.

  • 6.0.2 freezes when importing with canon 5d

Hi, I'm using The latest version of Iphoto 6.0.2 with an intel Mini. The computer locks up every time i try to import photos from my 5d. It always freezes about half way through the import. I've used different memory cards, a card reader, and even hooked it up to the USB port, it doesn't matter, it still freezes. The latest thing i tried was to delete the album.xml file and restart. That didn't do it either. The weird thing is that I have zero problems importing with my 20D. I can get around the problem by copying the photos to my Dell laptop, put them on a USB memory stick and then import them into iphoto with success. Any ideas? I have a feeling it has something to do with the canon software that i installed and then removed because i didn't like it. Could it be a conflict between i photo and the canon software? How do I make sure I remove all the canon crap?

    Foxfile:
I don't think it's due top the software unless it's operating on the files as you import. Are you shooting RAW and the accompanying jpg? I've had zero experience with RAW but try the following:
1 - create a new, fresh library and then see if you can import into it. If not then it's an account issue. If the new library works then it's
2 - log into another account and see if the photos will work there. If so then it's your primary account that is having trouble.
Also check some of the options in the camera about file types, compatibility, etc. There may be something in there that can be changed so make them work. I'm guessing since I don't have a camera that shoots raw.

  • Importing with a dvcam deck

So I gave up on trying to import 45 min blocks of video into im08. I am now taking a dvd player, running it through a sony dvcam dsr-11. This allows me to import the 10 seconds I need from many random places. But im08 keeps force quiting. Not that it stops and I have to force quit, the computer quits. What do I need to do to keep it from quiting?

Ok, so I imported with im06 and then imported im06 into im08 and it worked...or atleast it has so far. only problem is it renamed all of my clips!

  • Importing with DATA MANAGER

While directly importing with the help of data manager it gives me an error.
It doesnt import data from each and every field, it gives me two kins of error
    1) some fields dont exist
    2) another type of error is unable to find a lookup value.
And do suggest, even if Import manager exists when can i use this functionality.
    regards

      | Eleana West

First of all this Functionality can be used whenever u are sure that the data which has to be imported is free of any redundancies then only it is feasible to use this functionality.
Otherwise u need to use import mgr so that any kind of duplicates records can be eliminated.
And the errors which u are getting are
    1)  some fields dont exist
It gives bcoz from the source side the columns names do not match with the names on the destination side i.e.. the field names in the repository structure.
    2)  another type of error is unable to find a lookup value.
Even if the field names match and if the field on the destination side is a kind of lookup field i.e.. in turn its looking up in some other table then this kind of error arises.
u can bypass this error while importing thru data mgr by clicking on option button either skip value or skip record.
    Hope dis clears ur doubt.
If any other queries feel free to ask
