  • Using Frontrow without using iPhoto

    Hi!
Can I see my pictures in Frontrow without using iPhoto? I just want to put my pictures in Finder...
    Thanks

No, the photo displays goes through iPhoto the same way the music plays through iTunes. It's built-in that way. However, you could use a third party utility to play your pictures without iPhoto. Media Central will give you a Front Row-like interface and play pictures without iPhoto.

  • Transfer photos from camera to iMAC without using iPhoto or Aperture

    Hi
I have been having all sorts of problems with iPhoto which seems to have collapsed on account of me having too many photos (250GB). I have been recommended to download Aperture which holds a higher capacity of photos, which I have done. I transferred my iPhoto photos to Aperture and Aperture promptly collapsed...! So, I am now sorting out my photos on an external hard drive and will then re-import them into new Aperture libraries for each year I think so that they do not get jammed up.
I am stuck however, as I am now trying to download photos from my camera onto the iMac without using either iPhoto or Aperture and I cant seem to find a way to do it. I have connected the camera and looked in Finder and Preview but cant see the device there to retrieve the photos from it.
    Anyone got any tips?
Also if you have tips on what to do if you have too many photos that would be greatly appreciated too.
    Thanks

Well, when I migrated my photos from my MacBook Pro to my IMac in January 2011 some of the last set of photos I had taken did corrupt and I only realised a few months later when I went to make a photo book and got a black picture with an exclamation mark as the originals could not be found.
In my current reorganisation, I have copied the masters file from my macbook pro onto the external hard drive and the masters file from January 2011 onwards from my iMac onto the external drive also and filed all photos. I intend to reimport them from there, thus avoiding the corrupted ones.
The iphoto version is 9.4.3 and the aperture is 3.4.5
I now cannot open either iPhoto or the first library I transferred iPhoto photos to on Aperture. I just get the rainbow ball and it says 'not responding' so I have to force quit the applications. I send crash reports each time to Apple. I have iMac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5
Hoping the new library I have built will work. Do you think I can import the whole lot into a new Aperture library rather than break them down into years?
    Thanks for your help Terrence

  • How do I take photo's and video's off my iPhone without using iPhoto? It keeps crashing and to update I need to remove my photos-a catch 22??

How do I take the photo's and video's off my iPhone?... if 'iPhoto' on my mac keeps continually crashing and now refuses to open…?
I need to do this to update my apple software in iTunes, so that I can rid the bugs on my phone and take photo's again.
Is there another way to take the photos/videos off my iPhone and onto the mac? and also to delete them off the phone after I have put them on my hard drive?
It use to be as simple as find, drag and drop into a folder on my old pc. This should be much simpler, any advice or direction extremely welcome……?
    From iphotofandango

    Hi Iphotofandango,
There is an alternative to using iPhoto for transferring photos from an iOS device. You can use Image Capture, which will allow you to transfer photos easily. Image Capture is a tool already on your Mac. The following article may help:
Image Capture: Transfer images and other items from your device
Transfer images, video clips, and MP3 sounds to your computer from many cameras and devices that contain a camera, such as your iPhone. Once you transfer the items, you can delete them from the device.
Connect your device to your computer, then turn the device on.If the device is locked with a passcode, enter it.
In Image Capture, select the device in the Devices list.
Use the buttons at the bottom of the Image Capture window to view the thumbnails as a list or as icons to change the size of the thumbnails, or to rotate or delete images.
From the Import To pop-up menu, choose where to save the images or which app to use to open the image.
To import only some of the photos, select those photos, then click Import. To import all the photos, click Import All.Choose AutoImporter from the “Connecting this [device] opens” pop-up menu to transfer images from a device to your computer whenever you connect it to your computer.
Select “Delete after Import” to remove the items from the device after transferring them to your computer. You can also select individual items on your device, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.
For more information about connecting and using your device, refer to the documentation that came with it.

  • Adding  to photos  into Keynote without using iphoto

    Hello
How can I add photos into the Keynote slide show with having to import them into iphoto first.
    Thank You
    Dcik

Just drag the image file from the Finder onto the slide. (I use Keynote extensively, and I never use the Media palette.)

  • Importing pictures using iPhoto to the pictures folder

I don't understand why I can't select a folder to import my pictures to when using iPhoto. I really like the way I have all my pictures organized in my pictures folder but it only lets me import to the iPhoto library folder. If I try to move the pictures after I import them, then iPhoto can't find them and gets confused. Is there any way to rectify this?

That is not the way iPhoto works - you need to use iPhoto correctly or use a different program
iPhoto is a SQL databasse program and it must be the only program that makes changes to its database - you never need to and never should go into its database - you must NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure or contents of the iphoto library (the SQL dataabase)
You access your photos via iPhoto or via the media browser in the lower left hand corner of every open/attach/upload window
If you want to use iPhoto then you need to learn it - start by watching the tutorials

  • Is there a way to get photos into iMovie 11 without using iPhoto?

I use PSE9 to organize my photos and don't want to use iPhoto.  When I click on the little camera in iMovie, it only gives me the option of going to iPhoto.  Thanks for any help.

If you can access your photos from a Finder window, You can drag and drop them into an iMovie Project from there. Just make sure they are in a stable place, because if you move them later, iMovie will not know where to find them.

  • Watch a slideshow without using iPhoto?

    Hello together,
I never used iPhoto and I never want to use it.
I have far better ways to sort/control my pictures (e.g. Adobe Bridge).
Is it somehow possible to see a slideshow of an image folder in Front Row?
Like it is possible with DVDs with the VIDEO_TS Alias trick. Is there something like that for images?
Any thoughts, suggestions, experiences are welcome,
    Jan

    Thank you both.
I would love to stick to Front Row (and stick to the nice small remote).
I fear I just have to wait and hope that Apple opens that part of the system for developers.
I dont want to use iPhoto, because I feel that then I'm losing control over my pictures.
iPhoto copys them somewhere (which shrinkens my HD space), resizes them. And I dont want to connect my valuable images to a program that may be discontinued somewhere in the future.
Or maybe I switch to PC??? - Not!
I work with photos on a professional level, so iPhoto is not an option for me.
    Anyway thanks,
    Jan

  • Can one import a photo without using iphoto?

I want to import photos into a keynote presentation. The only options from clicking on 'media' are to import from iphoto or photobooth. Can I import directly from the folder in which the photo exists, without having to import into iphoto first (which just adds an unnecessary stage in the workflow)?

    Use +Import menu>Choose…+ or +command, shift v+.

  • How can I import photos without using iPhoto?

I'm 37, a lifetime PC/Windows user and have finally made the switch to Mac after years of using every other Apple product, including iPod, iPhone and Apple TV, which, by the way, must be the most under-marketed and best value Apple product ever. I can't believe more people don't have Apple TV in their homes.
With PCs, I was used to importing pictures to my hard drive and then viewing and editing them with whatever software applications I wanted. With my Mac, I notice that when I insert my SD card, iPhoto starts and asks me to import, which I agree. Unfortunately, it imports the images to an iPhoto folder that I can't easily access from another program, such as PhotoshopElements. I have read how to use Finder to navigate to these imported images in the iPhoto library ("Show Package Content") and then I copy the folder of images and paste it to a folder in my "Pictures" directory in Finder, but I find this tedious and also redundant as I now I understand I basically have two copies of every image, one for iPhoto Library and the other for accessing via other programs, such as Photoshop.
Is there anyway I can simply import images straight to a folder on my hard drive?
Also, if I do choose to access these images via iPhoto, am I correct in assuming iPhoto will automatically create a duplicate folder, just for accessing in the iPhoto library? If so, isn't this a waste of hard drive space? Can this be avoided?
Thank you for any and all assistance.
    Kevin

Hi Kevin,  I am in the same boat as you having been buying PCs for the last 25 years and managing IT for SMEs I have now purchased my first Mac (mac mini).  My move to Mac started with the iPhone that led to the iPad then like you I succumbed to the beauty of the Apply TV that then led to the purchase of an Airport Express.  The love affair had to conclude in the purchase of a Mac!
For many years I have used the feature to have the date photos taken created as a folder and all photos from that date placed in that folder.  Every year I create a new folder for that year and the import on PC creates the daily folders to hold photos …
I was just about to ask how I can keep doing this and realised it’s not as important as I thought – I’ll still create a folder for each year and just have the photos dumped in there.  I can sort in Finder by date taken and catalogue in any way I won’t.
I’ll still use folders rather than iPhoto as I want other software like XBMC (on other OS)  to read the photos.
Thanks for letting me rant – I thought I will post anyway as this is my first Apple post and it may assist others.

  • Is there any way to import photos from my iPad to my computer without using iPhoto?

I have a lot of photos on my iPad which I'd like to import onto my Mac Pro.  Because I'm not a fan of iPhoto is there any other way to do this and import my photos to a specific folder?
Thanks for any advice.  I appreciate it!

Sure.  Use image capture or aperture or whatever photo management software you like.

  • Camera raw update without using iPhoto or Aperture

I use Adobe LightRoom 4.4 for my photo editing and therefore I do not need Aperture or iPhoto.
However, I would also like to see the RAW thumbnails in my Finder windows from my Canon G15.
Is there a way to update the Digital Camera Raw without having to install (purchase) either of the Apple Applications?
I'm currrently running Lion but am happy to upgrade to Mountain Lion if necessary.
    Thanks in advance.
