Importing .wmv file into either iMovie 5.0.2 or Quicktime

Per my subject line, can it be done? I am thinking "no" based on the fact I have only an iMac G4 (Flat Panel). The .wmv's were burned onto a DVD-R.
Thanx, all.

I am thinking this version of Flip4Mac would do the trick - *http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/wmv-player-pro.htm*
Yes?
Also, would Perian work? (Perian codecs for Quicktime)

  • Importing WMV files into iTunes/Converting files

    1) How can I import WMV files into my iTunes library? I know iTunes can't import protected files. So is there no way to put those videos on my iPod?
    2) I tried to converting a Movie Clip by right clciking on it and pressing 'Convert Selection for iPod' when I imported it. But there's no audio. What's the problem?

There are many more hits if you do a search in the forums on those.
If they are not, then post back with camera info including what it says in the specs about the file forumat it shoots video in.

  • Problem to import wmv files into imovie 08

I have big problems to import my wmv files into imovie on my brand new imac24"
have installed flipmac pro , and they can not help me on help desk.
I have also upgraded Quicktime to Pro.
Files look grey so can not highlight .
Trieed to open in Qicktime and save as Mov. Stil could not have Imovie accept it when i draged or tried to import
Flipmac suggested i also download imovie 0.6 but cant find it on apples support page. only 06 updates.
    Any one who can help?
    opb

    have installed flipmac pro
Do you have the latest Flip4Mac update installed with the QT 7.2 fix?
Trieed to open in Qicktime and save as Mov.
The "Save As..." QT Pro File menu option only places the current audio and video compressed data in an MOV file container. It does not re-compress the data to a fully support QT compression format. Try converting the file to DV, MJPEG, H.264, etc. instead.
Stil could not have Imovie accept it when i draged or tried to import
Use the "Import Movie File" to "Move" a copy of your file into iMovie '08.

  • Any advice on importing wmv files into FCE?

I'd like to bring in some wmv files into a sequence in FCE. Of course this format is not directly supported. i'm having a rough time finding a third party app to use on my mac that would convert wmv files into something importable such as .mov. Any suggestions? Thanks.

flip for mac is a quicktime plug that works in all qt based applications. with it, you can open a wmv in quicktime and export it as a .mov
While I use it the other way round, to export wmv's for the web it will do what you want.
be aware that wmv is a highly compressed format and transcoding it, even to a higher size file for example dv will look horrible.
wmv is meant to be a delivery codec, not an editable one.

  • Importing .wmv files into my itunes

I sent myself songs from my windows PC to my MAC, i was hoping on importing them into my itunes so i can download them to my ipod. The tunes will not import and i am not too sure what to do. Any suggestions?

yes iTunes for windows will convert unprotected .wma (I assume you mean wma as you are talking about songs - wmv is a video file) into the format you have set under your import settings. Just add the folder.

  • How do I remove the watermark when importing WMV files into Premiere Pro?

There is some metadata that adds a media player watermark to my WMV files when I import them into Premiere Pro. I can play the original WMV videos with out the watermark on VLC, but the watermarks show up when I play them on Realplayer. So I know there is something that reads the watermark into the video file and I want to know if there is a way to turn it off in Premiere. I can convert the wmv with Any Video Converter and there is no watermark, but I'd like to avoid this step if I can.

Unfortunately my client doesn't know how the videos were created. My guess is that they were created using some free screen recorder. Most of the videos are recorded PPTs.
I've checked the microsoft site, but haven't found anything relevant.
    Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Importing .wmv Files Into FCE Using ffmpegX  ??????

    Was it a dream?
A month or so ago I converted some .wmv files to use in FCE and iMovie.
I am absolutely certain that I used ffmpegX.
Yesterday I tried to convert some more but couldn't! I tried every possible format setting I could find - but no luck.
Did I dream it? The wmv/FCE/iMovie movies are there for all to see.
The only other conversion programs I have are HandBrake and Toast but I am sure I didn't use those.
    Any ideas?
    Ian.

  • Can I import wmv files into iDVD?

I have a client who just handed me some windows media files. Can I import those into iDVD without converting them?
    Cheers.
    Tom

    Hi
    It needs to be converted.
    .wmv
iMovie is by concept meant to work with miniDV camcorders . . any other 'imports' need a conversion or are not supported... a quick solution would be purchasing a plug-in from www.flip4mac.com, 49$, which allows the conversion of .wmv (a PC format) into something useful for iM (dv-stream) ...
or, ask the emailer to send it in some other codec .. mpg4 for example .. which will be converted by iM 'out-of-the-box' ...  and, to work with iM, the video should fulfill a few standards .. 720x480 pixel resolution, 30 frames per second ... otherwise, you will experience a dramatic loss of quality ..

  • Importing WMV files into iTunes

    Hey folks!
I did this before when changing from PC to Mac, I moved all my music onto my mac and iTunes converted them from WMV to AAC, or M4A I'm not sure.
I'm trying to do the same thing now and it's doing nothing, like ignoring the command to import. Really annoying.
Any help or suggestions? I know it's possible.
    Cheers.

iTunes Mac cannot convert wma files - iTunes PC can.
Convert the files on a PC then bring them into iTunes Mac.

  • How to import .mpg files into FCE ?

I have succesfully installed the MPEG StreamClip & flip4mac into my iMac. So now I can both play wmv files on my iMac as well as importing wmv files into iMovie & FCE.
But now I have another problem:
    1) How do I play mpg files on my iMac ?
    2) How do I bring import mpg files into FCE ?
    Thank you.

QTPro gives you many more capabilities than the free player, but I don't think you need it to do anything you've described. You DO need the MPEG-2 Playback component. I'd start there, then see if you need any of the options provided by QTPro.
    Hi there,
I have purchased the MPEG-2 Playback component from the Apple Store.
I can now convert the mpg files to mov using the MPEG StreamClip.
However, I cannot playback the original mpg files using QuickTime Player. I can only playback the original mpg files if I click on the mpg file then goto more info & change open with MPEG StreamClip.
But how do I open with QuickTime MPEG-2 playback ? I do not even know where the OS installed the MPEG-2 Playback component to ?
    Thanks

  • Getting Multiple clips when importing DV file into iMovie 7

In previous versions of iMovie you could set a preference for importing movie files that either brought it in as one big clip or multiple clips. I don't see this in the new version. When I import a DV file it breaks it into about 30 clips. How can I bring in my file as one big clip?
I would appreciate fast response as I am on a deadline for this project. Thanks!!

There is no answer to this question. Its just the way it is and it stinks. I will continue to use iMovie 6
