Importing Word 2003 docs into RH7 HTML
I imported Word 2003 docs into RH7 for HTML and they looked
fine in the WYSIWYG window. However, when I preview the topics in
the Browser, I get HTML code for a dash, quotes and other
characters. It is an incredibly tedious process to try to search
and replace the HTML code in each document. Is this typical of Word
or Word 2003 docs that are imported into HTML, or is this a RH bug?
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to resolve the issue?
Thanks
Be sure you've downloaded all three RH7 patches (7.0.1,
7.0.2, 7.0.3).
I think 0.2 is the one that fixed these symbols, but install
each of them, in order.
Good luck,
Leon

Importing Word 2003 Docs into RH7 project
We currently have RH7 (7.02.001) and use Word 2003. However, we have some groups that are using Window 7. When we try to import a Windows 7 document (.docx) there is no option on the import screen to select a .docx file. Do we need to upgrade to RH8? Is there a workaround in RH (other than saving the .docx as .doc)?
Hi,
In 7.0.3, you can import .doc and .docx. File | Import | Word document.

How do I import Word:Mac docs into DW MX for Mac?
Hi. How do I import Word:Mac docs into DW MX for Mac? Thanks!
Have you tried direct import from the word document itself by going to:
File >> Import >> Word Document
This facility is available in CS 4 and after but I am not sure if it was
there in MX versions. Otherwise the only option left is to paste the
text into a text file and then copy/paste it in your webpage in DW.
Copy Special might work if you do it in Code View.

How do I import RH for Word WinHelp project into RH7 HTML?
I'm trying to convert a WinHelp project (created by someone
else in RH5 for Word) into a full HTML Help project in RH7, so that
I can build HTML Help or WebHelp outputs.
I have tried Menu > File > New > Project > Import
tab > select WinHelp Project. In the Wizard, I select the Help
Project to Import, click Next, then select the Output folder. But
there are no Source Documents listed to import. They are visible in
Windows Explorer, but RH7 does not see them. I cannot step Back /
Next or Finish without selecting files, so I can only Cancel and
try again.
Any ideas anyone?Work-around
I discovered by trial and error that if I open the RH5
WinHelp project in RH7 first, then close it, this adds lots of
other files to the project folder.
Then I can import it into RH7 HTML.
That solves this question. -
Unable to convert my word 2003 doc to a pdf
I am unable to convert my word 2003 doc to a pdf - comes up unable to find reader 7.0
I think from memory there might be two issues:
- check that the word and excel mimetypes have been added
- check that Word & Excel are installed on the print server.

Converting Word 2003 doc to Adobe pdf loses some text
Please help! I have printed up two sets of reports for a total of 123 pdfs. I have just now discovered that
two lines of text at the top of a page were not printed when converting the Word 2003 doc to the Adobe 9 pro pdf using batch sequences. Examining the fonts in the Word doc before printing showns them to be no different than text printed before or after. If not converting the entire doc, just printing the one problem page using file/print, it prints the missing text.
I'm using the same conversion settings, have unchecked 'rely on system fonts only.'
I'm attaching a page where the two lines are missing ('badpage'), and the page where the two are printed ('page3').
Can anyone shed some light on this? I will have to try to fix this by using another batch sequence to delete the faulty page and insert the correct page, but I would like to know how to fix the problem for the next time.
Thank you.It appears that you printed to the Adobe PDF printer from WORD.
You might find the problem resolved if you updated from AA9.0.0, though you may have and that is just the Distiller version. The early versions typically have problems. If you update, be sure to install the updates in order and do not try to skip over updates unless an update specifically says cummulative.
Apparently the two processes you use are different (as asked by the other post) and that is likely the issue. However, the one with the missing lines has all fonts embedded. The other one does not, and also uses additional fonts. It appears that one process may be using PDF Maker, though normally that would be indicated in the metadata and is not indicated as such. So, giving us more information about the process that you selected for creating the PDF in both cases may give us the info we need to help. -
Problems importing a Word doc into Robohelp HTML
I have a 116-page Word document with 13 chapters. When I
import this document into Robohelp HTML as a winhelp output file,
only two topics are created, rather than 13. On the Conversion
Options window, I select to have new topics created by Word style
"Heading 1" which are my chapter titles. Why doesn't Robohelp
create the topics, and what should I change to faciliate that?
Also, why don't my numbered lists from Word stay numbered in
Robohelp? Is there a way to automate numbered lists? Thanks for your reply.
When I insert .gif files JDeveloper ends with a message saying "Process exited with exit code 0". I then go and check in the database and I find the image added to the table.
With a word doc, JDeveloper does not give that message. No message at all regarding what the status of the process is. And the document is not added to the database. No error messages too. Could this be an issue with Oracle? -
RoboHELP 6 Crashes When Importing Word 2003 File
Discovered this today by accident (after modifying a Word
2003 file that I was previously able to import to "test" Help files
using both RH HTML and RH for Word (both V6) and thought I'd report
it because it appears to be a bug:
If you select the following option in the Word file that you
are importing, RoboHelp will crash during the import:
Tools, Options, General tab, Web Options, Files tab,
Organize supporting files in a folder
When you do the Import Word file action from RoboHelp, it
starts the import then issues a Microsoft C++ Debug Library message
box that says:
Debug Error!
Program: C:\Program Files\Adobe\RoboHelp
6.0\RoboHTML\RoboHTML.exe
abnormal program termination
(Press Retry to debug the application)
Abort Retry Ignore
Doesn't matter what you select. RoboHELP crashes and the Word
file is not imported.
Wanted to report this here in case someone else runs into
this. It cost me a lot of time today.

Thank you for the suggestion. I created a new project, new
folders, imported the files a few at a time & compiled it each
time (with one build tag in it) and found that only two files made
it crash. On the one file, I removed the tables (which had no
merged cells) from the project and it worked. The other file was
removed completly and I will re-do that page.
I then opened my current project (with all links &
pictures etc TOC working) and imported the changed file and removed
the other file and wala....I have a useable project.
The project was on our own software so unfortunately I would
not be able to share it.
Being a relativley new (1.5 yrs) user, I find running into
bugs are brutal....Thanks for all your help. -
Importing Word Documents to RoboHelp 7 HTML
Hi,
We are using RoboHelp 7 HTML for our project requirements.
The approach we adopted is as follows -
1.) Develop content in MS Word 2003 with proper formatting
including the styles defined for tables, fonts, paragraphs, various
levels of headings etc. We will have high number of word documents
which need to be reviewed by the SMEs before putting them in
RoboHelp.
2.) Copy the content to RoboHelp. We are using the File >
Import > Word Document. We find the following issues in the word
documents thus imported -
a.) Formatting errors like the font of the numbered list is
not consistent. The numbers have a different font while the ontent
has a different font.
b.) The content in Tables is also not properly indented. It
touches the borders.
c.) Foreign characters are being introduced wherever
double-quotes are used. Eg: ”r;Other” (it should have
been "Other")
How do we address the above-listed issues? How do we get the
same output in RoboHelp as can be seen in the formatted word
document? Do you suggest any better alternative?
Thanks & Regards,
Anil1] Yes. Non-RH users develop the content.
2a & 2b] What I have noticed is that the numbers appear
in Times New Roman while the content appears in Arial after
importing. As mentioned, we have lot of documentation (many word
documents). So each word doc I import, a CSS gets generated and
editing them itself is a herculean task. Is there any work around
this so that we can gain time and carry out the import smoothly?
2c] Could not find the patch in your website. One of your
posts says that it is Item 21. But cannot find any downloadable
link.
As suggested I tried reading the article in Printed
Documentation. But really didn't know which one you were referring
to.

POI Reading Microsoft Word 2003 docs
Anybody having success reading Microsoft Word 2003 documents using POI? I just tried it for the first time today. I've got a compound document with lots of pages and an embedded Excel spreadsheet. POI found seven DocumentEntries, but the bytes I extract are gibberish when I print them. Any advice? Thanks - %
The WordDocument that once was part of POI no longer appears.
I have been able to get something out of POI, but it's not 100% useable. So I went and downloaded OpenOffice.org's SDK. I think it's even more convoluted and unusable.

Importing word 2004 docs with tables into Pages
I work in video production, and my clients send me shooting scrips as word documents formatted with tables. Needless to say, I was quick to discover that Pages doesn't really 'like' these documents. I can't keep asking my clients to reformat their docs as txt files for me - it's very unprofessional.
What I've found is that all the text is there, but the tables don't 'translate' (one cell tries to fit on a whole page and the text gets 'lost' at the bottom). Is there a quick and easy way to remove the tables in Pages but keep the text?
In Word, it's Alt+A, V, B, 0 (I've been formatting and reformatting scripts for 8 years!).
Thanks for your help. I REALLY don't want to have to get Office - I've read so many horror stories about 2008 (especially the excel part).sknygrydg07 wrote:

Hello,
Have you tried: Select table, then from the Pages Menu; Format > Table > Convert Table to Text?
It might be of some value in this situation.

Acrobat won't create bookmarks from level three headings in Word 2003 doc
I’m trying to convert a series of 2003 word docs, each with three levels of headings to .pdf using Acrobat but neither Acrobat nor Word 2010 (which a friend tried for me), could produce bookmarks for heading 3.
Headings 1 and 2 are main standalone headings but Heading three has been applied to the number of each paragraph in the document (the number has been typed in manually at the start of each para) and is on the same line as the first line of text. It is separated from the text by a single tab space. Immediately above the first line of text of each paragraph is a single line of upper case text which gives the name of the file. Normal style has been applied to both the paragraph text and the upper case file names.
Here is how it looks;
THIS IS A QUESTION ABOUT BOOKMARKS
2 We’re so glad to have many friends that we see in the building ---too many to try to mention. I just happened to notice, coming in the door the man that married wife and I together. And we’re glad to have him in with, oh, so many others.
The number “2” above is heading style 3. All three levels of headings will produce an accurate TOC for the document so the problem seems to be that neither Acrobat nor Word 2007 can ‘find’ heading no 3 because it is set between the upper case and paragraph text.
I’m wondering if an MS article (Q285059) I have tried to understand that refers to use of Lead-in Emphasis with Heading styles and Style Separators may provide a solution … but at this point the lingo is over my head.
I have over 1000 similar docs to convert to pdf so any suggestions that might help or even establish that what I’m trying to do is not possible will be very gratefully received.
Audionz1000 docs to convert? That's MISERABLE!
I have the same problem (on a much smaller scale) and will follow this thread to see if someone figures it out. -
Multiple Word 2007 docs into one PDF version 6
Hello to everyone,
I am a newbie to this. I did check some of the most recent posts but didn't find anything that fit my issue. I have an end-user here that is running Office 2007 SP2 and running Adobe Acrobat V6. He used to be able to select multiple word documents and make them into one pdf by right clicking on them and selecting that process. After we upgraded him to Word 2007 it stopped working. He is still able to select multiple word documents and right click to add them to one PDF but what comes up in word is garbled and nothing else seems to happen ( the process tends to halt and do nothing).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
SusieFor the software combination the person now has, PDFs can only be created by opening the application and using the Print function to print to the Adobe PDF printer. In the past you were depending on PDF Maker interacting with WORD to create the PDF when opening in Acrobat. With the upgrade to WORD 2007, your current PDF Maker will not work and thus you can only print.
If your creation process is critical, you have no choice but to upgrade to AA9 to obtain the compatibility for OFFICE 2007. OFFICE 2003 did not even exist at the time AA6 was released as I recall. Your office updates have made other software imcompatible - a MS issue if you wish. -
When will RH10 support importing Word 2013 docs?
When will Robohelp 10 support importing documents from Word 2013?
If Adobe does not add this functionality, my organization will have to switch to Doc-to-Help.The indication that 2013 is supported is a mistake and I will bring that to Adobe's attention. As Willam indicates, there will not be a patch for Rh10.
There is a workaround for creating printed documentation. See Using Rh10 on my site. There is no workaround for importing.

Trouble Importing PowerPoint 2003 file into Adobe Captivate 3
I am using Adobe Captivate 3 and am having difficulty importing a owerPoint 2003 file. The file has 26 slides but Captivate only recognizes 17 of them. The powerpoint file has no transitions or animations set that would cause any issues. Any ideas as to what could be causing this?
By the way when I open up Powerpoint and import the slides from my original file and do not keep the source formatting, the end file will be come into captivate fine(all 26 slides) but an animation that was not there originally now exists.Hi there
You could try just running the PowerPoint and recording it from Captivate as it plays.
You would also want to report the issue as a bug.
Cheers... Rick
