Importing word - not responding

I've been trying to import a Word 2003 document into version
x5 but I keep getting a message that says "Microsoft Word seems not
to be responding. Would you like to continue waiting for a
response?" I've tried starting a new project and importing the
document, as well as opening an existing project and importing the
document but neither method works. Does anyone have any
suggestions? Please help.

Now, I just have to troubleshoot the import. The images are
all out of whack, but I'll do another search on this forum before
posting my question. ;-)

FYI, I'm a freelance tech writer trying to decide between
RoboHelp 7 and Flare. I will be creating simple online help for web
applications from scratch, as well as updating and restructuring
complex help projects for robust client applications. I use Word
2000 and the Vista OS (long story, but I'm roped into it). I have

Microsoft Word not responding

When typing into Word document, the document tends to go into "not responding" mode every other sentence. The screen tends to fade and it takes 60 seconds to reload. I've never experienced this on any of my other PC's or laptops.
The tech advisors in the Microsoft store thought it had to do with downloading updates, which they did. However, that did not fix the problem.

Go to File>Option>Advanced>Disable hardware graphics acceleration.

Convert PDF to Word - Word (Not responding)

I've used Adobe XI to convert PDF doc to Word. When working within the Word document highlighting or editing it "hangs" every few seconds showing "Word (Not Responding)". It's very frustrating as well as time consuming. Autosave is off. Any help or recommendations appreciated.

Imported video not responding in IOS and mobile devices

But the video does not respond in IOS and is very slow on iPad.
What could be wrong? The video is a MP4. Should it be set to preload?

That is the problem of html5 video in mobile.
It does not preload and does not autoplay.
It can only be played by a direct user event action ( like click )
There are no work arounds for this, and its made so people on mobile, do not waste there mobile internet on videos.

Importing Word - not finding all the styles

I was asked to investigate the RoboHelp software for a client
to convert one of their documents onto the web. RoboHelp is a great
tool and seems to do everything to match my requirements. I just
have one problem that I cannot seem to shake. Every time I import
the Word document and recieve the prompt to select a style as a
deliminator for the pages, it does not display the Header2 style.
This is vital to break the pages into sections. The Header1 style
is available, the Header3 style is available, many other styles are
available; is there a condition which must be met for RoboHelp to
use a style?
We'd like to purchase the product but I need to present a
proof of concept before we do so. Any help would be
appreciated.

In Word 2007 when I open a new document, the styles available
under "All styles" include Heading 1, Heading 2, etc. I used
Heading 2 in a Word document and RH picked up on it.
Also included in the default template are Header and Footer,
which have specialized uses.
Where did Header1, Header2 and Header3 come from? Is Header2
used anywhere in the body of the document? RH should pick up on any
styles used in the document, but doesn't look in the header or
footer, so far as I know.

Word not responding,fix

I get the spining ball of death when I open Word. Is there a fix? I have Zapped PRAM, repaired permissions, cleaned cash and stil can't use Word.

Not a hang - no misty screen, no hourglass, no 'Not Responding' - but it doesn't respond and updating doesn't fix it.

Was on some prehistoric version of Firefox as I only update when I have a problem with an old version. It started to become absurdly slow, so I updated to 19.0.2 as advised by the window that came up. However, if anything it's got worse. It starts with a blank window, then the 'Restore Session' page comes up, then it just doesn't let me click on or type anything at all. As I've said, if a hang is when the screen goes misty, the cursor becomes what used to be an hourglass but is now a circle and the words 'Not Responding' appear in the title bar, then this is not a hang because none of those things happen, but I can't do a damn thing with it. I've tried shutting it down through Task Manager, even though it's not using anything like the level of memory where that is usually necessary, and then restarting it, but to no avail. How can I get it working again?

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

Application, once built, shows "Not Responding" in the toolbar, and it doesn't go away

If you have an application that is running with some kind of timeout, (My application will send a message, and wait for a user definable period of time for a reply). If this tine is over 5 seconds, and the user clicks on the application, the app sets its status to "(Not Responding)". This is mirrored on the toolbar.
Once the application begins responding again, the title bar of the app changes back to an active state, although the representation of the app on the tool bar stays in a "(Not Responding)" state.
I have attempted to stop the user click having an effect by setting the cursor to busy and setting the "Click Disable" to TRUE, but this does not help.
Any ideas how to get round this one? Or is it a bug?

Every application that is open has an instance in the task bar
As you can see here, I am running outlook, labview, firefox and MSN, but don't tell my boss
Somtimes, when windows things an application has crashed it will place the phrase "(Not Responding)" next to it's name in the task bar. It will also place the word "(Not Responding)" In the title bar for the application.
I have written a program that calls a .dll. The function of this .dll is to read incomming data up the RS-232 socket of my PC. I can set a timeout on this, lets say I set it to 1 minute.
The application is running, I call the .dll to read incoming data, then I don't produce any incoming data. The application will wait, up to 60 seconds for some data, but in the mean time, Windows thinks the LabVIEW executable file has crashed, so places the word "(Not responding)" in the taskbar AND in the title bar. At this point I send my data up the 232, the data is received and displayed by the application. At this point Windows forgives LabVIEW and the "(Not Responding)" status is revolked. This phrase is then removed from the title bar, but IS NOT removed from the task bar.
Does anyone know if we have control over this, or should I report it as a bug to National Instruments?

Hi All,
I have a problem when i open report in MS Word document.
I give clear steps.
1-> Log on BI Publisher menu in Ms Word
Given User Name/Pwd
2-> Then open temp window will open
3-> In that window i selected my report Layout and click on open Report option.
Then i am getting prob that Ms Word is not respond(Task Manager)

The version of MS Word 2008. I don't use the application from a remote server or over a network.
If I open and close Word without doing anything, it pauses for a few seconds and then quits fine. But if I use it, i.e. write a document or just leave it running for a bit, when I right-click on the icon to close it it says 'Application Not Responding' and my only option is to force quit. If I use command-q, it will say there was some sort of error and the application had to close. Then the error report window pops up.

Microsoft Word Freezing Repeatedly, Application Not Responding

Just wondering if anyone else was having issues with Microsoft Word from MS Office 2008, where you open the application, you type a few sentences, and the application freezes with the spinning circle of death that won't go away until you click the dock where it says "application not responding" and do a force-quit? You can leave the circle spinning for 10-20-30 minutes, and it never goes away.
Now for the weird part--this error only happens for me when I'm using a specific document on my computer. I can open Word, start a new document, type several paragraphs of text, and it works fine. But I've been working on an existing paper for about two months that all of a sudden started causing these freezes/crashes when editing it. It's about 30 pages roughly, no images, no big inserts that would take up a lot of memory (116 kb in size). And up until today, there were no problems. So why all of a sudden can't I edit anything on this paper without freezing the program?! I downloaded the Microsoft Office 2008 Service Pack 1 that was just released after this problem started, and ran all the recent Java and program updates through Software Update with computer restarts. I even copied the text from the Word document I was working on, pasted it into a new document, tried saving it as both .doc and .docx, and again the program still freezes when working with that text in a new file. This one baffles me. It's like the text within a document is somehow freezing the application. One thing I did notice is that the freezes seem to happen when I'm scrolling using a mouse wheel. Not always, but quite a bit. I suppose this is some memory issue related to several pages of text that the program can't render or process when you add new lines of text or scroll, but again, I can't figure why this paper I've been working on for months all of a sudden decided to start freezing Word today. Can you really only have 30 double-spaced pages of text in Word before it crashes?
Looks like I've found my reason to switch to Open Office, since I'm 3-4 days out from a deadline. Any other solution strategies would be welcome. Thanks.

Same problem here - Microsoft Word 2008 (update 12.1.7) will open fine, and then start the spinning pizza of death. Only way out is to force-quit the app. I've tried:
1) deleting plist and font cache files
2) uninstalling MS Office 2008, reinstalling and then re-applying updates 12.1.0 and 12.1.7
3) confirming that Apple's Font Card.app can verify all fonts
No luck. Currently I can't open any MS word doc without the spinning pizza of death.
If you are lucky enough that these symptoms only happen with a specific Word .doc file, I would see if the PC-originator could re-save the file as .RTF and resend. If you can then open it OK, you could revert back to .doc (or .docx) format. RTF format is Microsoft's interchange format. If there are anomalies in the .doc file, saving as .RTF can sometimes clean them up. Once done, you can revert back to native MS Word format.

Did you import an iPhoto Library from the old Hard Drive? Do you still have that old Library?
The way to clear out a Library is to Export the photos - Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
For the annoying start-up message:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

Issues importing word into indesign and keeping notes/superscripts

I have a job coming up where I will need to import word documents into indesign that come from various sources.
I did some web surfing and discovered I should be able to do it by placing the word document into my template. It seemed to work when I first tried it, but I have now discovered that only the first few notes have from through (first 14 to be precise). Then the numbers disappear (and are replaced by soft returns) until note 33 where they jump back in. But of course this starts at the next number missing, so in this case 15. Which of course means all the numbers are out of order and so need to be fixed.
I would just input or fix manually but as I have 15 stories place and format and the first one has 95 notes... I am hoping to find a less time consuming solution.
I am guessing it is something in how the author has edited the word document, but I truly have no idea.
Any suggestions as best way to overcome this? Ideally something I can ask the authors to fix. Or is there something in the import options?
I am about to get EXTREMELY desperate with this issue.

OK after some more web seraching I have tried saving as and RFT file and that seemed to work. So fingers crossed.

Notes App That Can Import Word Docs and Record Audio

I have Pages now which you can import Word docs to.
I have another app that can record audio and take notes, but you can't import documents.
Is there an app that does both? Import Word docs that I can edit and then also record audio at the same time?

Yes you can use Pages for Word documents and transfer the files as Word documents to iTunes and then to your desktop via file sharing. I use it. Frankly I haven't paid attention to any of the spell check features at all so I can't say for sure that it will work the way that you want it to work.
From everything that I have read about Pages v Documents to Go, I was under the impression that Docs to Go was the much better choice for all around compatibility with Word files. Actually, Pages has some issues going from Pages on the iPad to Pages on the Mac in terms of compatibility and formatting.

Unable to import or clear history because buttons do not respond and are not active

When I try to clear history under Tools or import under File, the buttons do not responds. Other buttons work well and are somewhat highlighted, but these two do not respond.

Make sure that you not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.
