Imports immediately

My computer immediately imports any CD to the iTunes library. How can I stop this since I'd prefer to make choices. Thanks.

Go to Preferences>Advanced>Importing.
At 'On CD Insert:' you can tell iTunes what to do.

Re-Importing DNGs which were exported from CR2s

Going forward, I'm sure this issue could be solved by a workflow change, but for now, I have a small problem:
I shoot a ton of images (20,000+ per year) and process in Lightroom. I have a workflow where I export my .CR2 originals as DNG for archiving to an external drive, to free up space on my local drive. Once they're copied over, I delete the folders from my Mac's hard drive via the Finder, which leaves the previews still searchable within Lightroom. This is great for searching and referencing archived stuff that I don't necessarily need to re-edit.
However, when I do need to re-edit something, once I copy the folder from the exernal drive back to its original location on my local HD for editing in LR, Lightroom doesn't recognize the files automatically since they now have a different file extension. I must click each thumbnail's question mark and point it to the file in question. Lightroom will not apply this same action to nearby photos.
Any thoughts on how to speed this up rather than addressing each image, one-by-one?

That is indeed the procedure for importing playlists. Been using it a lot, trying to get these playlists to re-import.
iTunes requires .m3u or XML for playlist import. iTunes doesn't import playlists in text (.txt) format, even though that's the default format when you export them.
If I'd run an import immediately after exporting a playlist I'd have caught this. But who would expect that iTunes might not accept its own default playlist export format for playlist import?
The problem: how to extract and use the information in the text files iTunes exported.

LR not showing all images on card during Import

I have the latest version of LR. iMac and Canon 7D. With my camera tethered directly to my computer, I start the Import Photos process. When the thumbnails begin to load, it seems like if I have a large amount of photos to import (from 8GB card), it always leaves off the last hundred or two (approximately). They just don't show up. I'll import what is visible, then go back and do another import immediately. All the ones that have been imported show up as greyed out thumbnails, then the remaining images on card will be avavilable for Import.

Latest roll import on hd, not in iphoto

I'm just updating to iPhoto 06 and doing my first imports. So far, I'm not impressed with any of it.
I just imported a new roll of 120 pictures...which turned out to have about 60 dupes. I waited while iPhoto imported all my duplicates (ugh, who killed the "skip dupes?" feature?). After the process completed, I realized that what I saw on screen was the last roll (the dupes) and I couldn't see the new roll and new unique photos.
All of the 120 photos are on my hard disk, in a folder with the roll name I specified during the import process, but, I can't get them to show up in the iPhoto app. I've tried searching the iPhoto library by the name of my new roll, name of a unique image, or sorting the view by date--and nothing.
How can I get my photos to show up in the iPhoto interface? Unfortunately, I deleted them off of my camera before checking to make sure all was well or I'd import again.

Just for future reference: The "Import" and "Import Selected" buttons are behaving differently from other settings and do not change import settings, they will start the import immediately. That is why you have to have selected the images and have set all settings before you hit one these buttons.

IPhone photos - duplicate imports

I am using Aperture 2.1.1 I import images as managed files and change the names to a custom master name (basically my initialsyear_month_daytime). I have the "do not import duplicates" box checked. This works for my other cameras, but Aperture keeps importing duplicates from my iPhone. They all end up re-named the same, so it isn't hard to see that there are duplicate masters there.
Any suggestions what to do to keep it from duplicating the iPhone images? Thanks!

same problem here exactly. It's not all the photos, just the same 15 of them everytime. really annoying since I can't see any differences in the metadata. I even deleted the dupes, and deleted all the photos from the iphone, then resynchronized to the aperture folder. It still wants to import those 15 photos when I reconnect. Performing a manual import immediately after they're imported does not cause duplicates though, only when I first connect the iphone.

Trouble Importing MPG and Transcoding AVI

I have read all the posts in this sub-forum but can not find the solution to my problem.
I have edited a movie in PPro. It's about one and a half hour long. When I export it via MPG, non muxed, I can not import the M2V into Encore. The WAV file imports OK. The import dialog box shows up and the progress bar moves to about 80% and then sloooows done to a crawl and finally flashes back to 80% and continues this loop forever, no error message.
So I try exporting from PPro with the AVI (movie) option. This file imports immediately into Encore. I have tried several transcode settings to transcode the file before I try to burn a file or disk. However none of these settings have been successful. The progress bar takes it's time to go to the end, it then disappears but no transcoding takes place no matter how long I let it go befor hitting stop.
The MPG file was exported from PPro with VBR 2 pass 8 mbps PCM audio. I don't have Roxio or Nero. I ran reg1staid several times. My disks are defraged.
My machine is : Pentium 4, 2.8 ghrz, with 2 Gigs memory.
I hope somebody has some insight into this and can help me solve this frustrating problem. If not I guess I will spend the $39 and see what the "expert" at Adobe has to say.

tryptych: I tried AVS. I'm not sure what you were coverting from and to. I used AVS coverter to convert AVI file, produced with Adobe Prem Pro, to MPEG 2. It loaded into Encore alright but Encore wants to transcode it. Apparently Encore considers it non-complying DVD. I don't know if it's the AVS converter or Encore that is FOS. Be that as it may, Encore will not transcode the file anyhow.
By the way, you said that the only way you could get your "files to import at all was as an AVI, and then Encore wants to transcode them again". It is my understanding that AVI files NEED to be transcoded since they are not DVD compliant. However my copy of Encore will not transcode the AVI file even though no error message comes up. Is this not the case with you?
I'm beginning to think I have a faulty copy of Encore. I have been back to using Sonic DVDiT, but when I have the time and energy for combat with Adobe I will contact them.

Importing photos from my iPhone is incredibly slow or not working anymore

After upgrading from iPhoto to Photos, I can't import photos from my iPhone anymore after connecting it to my 5K iMac.
When I do connect my iPhone to my iMac, it takes over a minute or two for just the "Import" button to appear next to the global Photos/Shared/Albums/Projects navigation.
The next problem is that my thumbnails are loading incredibly slow, with just the thumbnail placeholder graphics appearing at a glacial pace without the actual thumb of the photo in question.
These issues are terribly annoying and killing the excitement of the long overdue and great upgrade.
Many thanks in advance to whoever can help me resolve these issues.

Ok, this is incredible, but within 5 minutes of posting this problem, and after 6 to 8 views (hopefully by Apple Tech Support), these issues seem to be fixed.
I just tried Photos again (my iPhone was already connected to my iMac) and boom, the Import button was already there in the global nav.
The thumbnail gallery of my already imported and new items showed up immediately.
When I hit "Import", my new items started importing immediately and turning up under the Photos section.
Apple Support Community / Tech Support, a big thank you to whoever fixed this. Hugely appreciated.

Importing playlists that were exported from iTunes as text

I need to re-import playlists that I exported from iTunes. When exporting them I didn't notice the format selector, which defaults to .txt format. iTunes requires .m3u or XML for playlist import. How can the information in these files be imported (including getting it into a compatible format)?

Can't transfer/import XDCAM files from harddrive into FCP

hi, i filmed all of my footage using an XDCAM and had to return the cams immediately. so i copied all the clips from the capture media to an external hard drive (everything within the BPAV folder) one to one. i also downloaded and installed the XDCAM EX Clip Browser on my MacBook Pro and can view the clips.
the problem i have is that i can't import the clips into FCP. the "Import> SONY XDCAM..." feature in FCP won't allow me to access these files. the BPAV folder remains greyed out.
what do i need to do to get the clips into FCP? is there a different plugin i need? the clip browser won't let me export the clips to any other format. i'm stumped. i run FCP computer on my G5 PPC Quad core. the file browser only runs on Intel macs. so i use my MBP to view the clips but that's all i can do.
can someone please help me out ?

in the spirit of armano'os last post and FYI: i picked up the cams on short notice, never used them before and there were no instructions. the ppl just told me to copy the files over to my HD, since i had to return the cams immediately and had no time to hook up the cams to FCP.
the 'mistake' i seem to have made was that i looked at the data structure and saw that the clips always ended up in the CLPR folder within each BPAV folder - each in its own folder in that fiolder and with XML and data files - so i copied directly to that one BPAV folder i copied from the first capture media i moved to my hard drive instead of copying the entire BPAV folder from each capture media. however i tested the import immediately to see if it actually played back the files in the XDCAM clip browser and they did.
i assumed all was fine with this method and it would save me a lot of duplicate BPAV folders... hopefully though this isn't the end.

Language import for ECC6

Hi all,
I went along with the installation of French language on ECC6 netweaver 04s. The system was installed as ECC6 SR2. The DVD that I used belonged to "Language NetWeaver 2004s SR2 FR". We see the tcode descriptions and user menu in English and missing in French.
Is this because we require a "Language ECC 600 / SR2" DVD instead of the "netweaver 04s SR2" dvd during language import?
I have been able to locate "Language ECC 600 / SR3" DVD on marketplace. Could I proceed with ECC language import immediately after "Language NetWeaver 2004s SR2 FR".
Please share your thoughts!

Please help with Mac Mail freezing

Everytime I go to mac mail I get the spinning beach ball forever and then eventually have to force-quit. I have 10.4.11 on a G4 Powerbook 1.67. Is there a way to trash my mail program and download a new one?

How do I open a .fdf file downloaded from the internet?

   I have been on a website many times in the past and opened pdf files. Today however, I have been trying to download an adobe file, and its showing up as a .fdf file. When I click to open (or drag and drop) I keep getting this error message:
This PDF is attempting to launch:

Are you sure you want to continue?
[Yes]
[No]
     When I click on yes, I get the same repetitive error message and nothing opens. I have tried about 30+ yes's and still nothing.
I am running windows 7 professional with Adobe XI. I know I have opened this file on this computer in the past, I do not know why it will not open now. It has been about 8 months since I have tried though...

Adding tracks automatically creates playlists

Help!
I have 47,000 tracks to add to iTunes and when I begin the process, it immediately creates a playlist for each album. I stop the import immediately and delete the 20 or so playlists that have been created, go back to File > Add to Library, select my folder, click Open and it does the same thing - it adds all of the tracks to my iTunes Music Library AND creates playlists for every collection of tracks it thinks is related!!!!! You can imagine how out-of-control this would be if I were to import my entire library!!
I've looked through preferences for some "create a playlist for every album I import" or something along those lines but I don't see anything. I'm running Mac OX 10.6 and iTunes 10.4.
Please let me know what I can do to prevent this from happening! I want control over my own, personal playlists, which I created, then exported to file, then emptied out my entire Music Library to start over again fresh. BUT this time, the fresh start is going to cause thousands of playlists to be created on their own.
Can anybody help me?

Can't export/write to XDCAM HD deck using Sony Content Browser Exporter

Our Studio need a workflow: Import media from Sony Content Browser v.2, and export/write back to Sony XDCAM HD deck (U2 etc.).
Sony Content Browser manual say they can Import/Export from Final Cut Pro X, But always have some problem:
Final Cut Pro X can't asign correct audio config channel to 8 mono channel for exporter
Final Cut Pro X can't set to 24bit/48kMz for Sony XDCAM HD optical disc.
How can we do? Thank.

Canon HV10

My Canon HV10 is not even remotely recognized by my macbook or i-movie. It doesn't even show up on the desktop as being plugged into the USB port. Any clues?

Maybe the following part of Apple article 43000 (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=43000) may help you:
"When using an HD camera
If you are using an HD camera and the import immediately stops when you try to import from the camera into iMovie, fast forward a few seconds into the tape and try importing again. If you have recorded over existing footage on the tape that is a different format, this may cause the import to halt. This can happen if there is still residual footage in the other format at the beginning of the tape.
For example, you have recorded 720p HDV footage over DV footage on a tape, but at the beginning of the tape there is still some DV footage that is being read first. iMovie interprets this as a DV project, then halts when it reaches the HDV footage because it does not match the current project format.
HD cameras may have a setting for converting or setting the output format transmitted over FireWire. For example, on some Sony models there is a setting for iLink.conv — this should be turned off in order for the camera to communicate properly with iMovie. Consult the documentation which came with your camera for more information."
