Imports thumbnails but not the photos

The last time I imported photos from my digital camera, everything appeared to work fine (and the camera memory was erased, as instructed). Then I noticed that when I scrolled through the library, the thumbnails of the photos were displayed, but as soon as I stopped scrolling, they all changed to empty frames, and double-clicking one just produces a big empty frame.
Using Klix, I recovered the jpeg files from my camera's erased memory, and re-imported them. Again, I got thumbnails but no pictures. The recovered files themselves are fine--I can open them up in Preview with no problem. And all my older pictures are fine in iPhoto. But something's gone wrong with iPhoto's importing.

Um, never mind.
As is usually the case when I can't figure out what the #&%$# is going on, it was a permissions issue. My iPhoto library is on an auxiliary disk drive, and somehow I had lost write permission to the "Originals" folder; possibly because my wife accessing it from her computer messed something up??
Anyway, after resetting permissions and re-importing, it worked.

www.domain.com.au is a real estate sales page. Most of the site loads but not the photos, just a word 'House' in its place. I tried same site on IE and it all loaded correctly.

It is possible that you clicked "Block Images" in the right click context menu while trying to save an image.
Check the image exceptions: Tools > Options > Content: Load Images: Exceptions<br />
See [[Options window - Content panel]]
*A way to see which images are blocked is to click the favicon (<i>Site Identification</i> icon) on the left side of the location bar.
*A click on the "More Information" button will open the Security tab of the "Page Info" window (also accessible via "Tools > Page Info").
*Open the <i>Media</i> tab of the "Page Info" window.
*Select the first image and scroll down though the list with the Down arrow key.
*If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.

If you haven't tried re syncing the apps using iTunes..
Connect the iPad to your computer. Select it under Devices left side of the iTunes window. Select Apps from the menu, make sure the boxes next to those apps are selected then click the Sync button bottom right side of the iTunes window.

  • Photoshop opens from the finder but not the photo.

When I click on a photo in the finder, photoshop will open but not the photo. I have to open the photo THROUGH PHOTOSHOP. Not a big deal but terribly annoying and time consuming. Not sure what changed recently to cause this issue. I have jpegs and psds set to open with Photoshop—no problem there, just no photo when Photoshop boots up.

Select the photo then press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Open With section select Photoshop from the Default drop down menu. If you wish to apply this to all such files then click on the Change All button.

  • Aperture 2 sees the M8.2 camera but not the photos on teh card

New to Aperture 2 and using the trial for two days.
Importing photos from disk works OK.
When I plug in my Leica M8.2 (supported by Aperture 2) the camera shows up in the top left corner but the main area in the Aperture 2 display is blank - no photos are shown - so I am unable to import.
The pictures are on the card and are in DNG format.
Am I doing something really stupid?
    David.

Importing direct from camera is bad form anyway. First copy from card to a computer hard drive, then import from the computer hard drive into Aperture after backup.
By default Aperture uses a Managed-Masters Library which sooner or later usually leads to overfilling the Library drive. I recommend a Referenced-Masters Library, which you can do by using this workflow as described below in an earlier post of mine:
I feel pretty strongly that card-to-Aperture or camera-to-Aperture handling of original images puts originals at unnecessary risk. I suggest this workflow, first using the Finder (not Aperture) to copy images from CF card to computer hard drive:
    • Remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into a memory card reader. Faster readers and faster cards are preferable.
    • Finder-copy images from memory card to a labeled folder on the intended permanent Masters location hard drive.
    • Eject memory card.
    • Burn backup hard drive or DVD copies of the original images (optional strongly recommended recommended backup step).
    • Eject backup hard drive(s) or DVDs.
    • From within Aperture, import images from the hard drive folder into Aperture selecting "Store files in their current location." This is called "referenced images." During import is the best time to also add keywords, but that is another discussion.
    • Review pix for completeness (e.g. a 500-pic shoot has 500 valid images showing in Aperture).
    • Reformat memory card in camera, and archive originals off site on hard drives and/or on DVDs.
Note that the "eject" steps above are important in order to avoid mistakenly working on removable media/backups.
Also note with a Referenced-Masters Library that use of the "Vault" backup routine backs up the Library only, not the Masters. Masters should be separately backed up, IMO a good thing from a workflow and data security standpoint.

  • Can I delete an "event" but not the photos? Turn album in2 an event....how?

If I get this right, an event basically equals every unique import of photos. Yet what am I to do if I dont want an event for every import, most especially when people email me one photo that i save to iphoto, that to me isnt a event. I spent hours upon hours creating 'albums' of what have now been coined my events.....so how do i take all the contents of one album that i created in iLife '07 and turn it into an event, even if the photos could have come from various imports along the way? iLife is telling me it's impossible, but there has to be a work around.
So basically I want to be able to delete events, but not it's photos.
And how do I turn my previous albums from iLife '07 & that include photos from various imports to one event in iLife '08.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Not quite. Events are NOT albums, they are an updated version of the Rolls feature in v6. As with v6, every import created a Roll, but you can move pics between Events, create and edit them and so on, just like you could with Rolls. Your albums are not affected by this activity.

  • How to delete an event, but not the photos

hello. i imported a few photos from my iphone 4 to iphoto and it created an event. i dragged and dropped those photos to a specific album on iphoto which is the only place i want them. i then deleted the newly created event but the photos disappeared from that album i put them in as as well. how can i prevent this from happening? thanks.

You can not, of course, do that
Events is one view of the photos in your library. Photos is another
Albums are pointers to photos in your library. You can remove photos from albums without removing the photo but you can not remove the photo without removing it. Removing a photo obviously removes it from all views

  • In iPhoto, I can see the thumbnails but not the full-size photos

In iPhoto, I can see the thumbnails along the bottom but I can't see the full-size photos - I just see a black screen. What should I do?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • IPhoto recognizes my iPhone, but not the photos on it.

The iPhone is a 3gs running iOS 5.1, the iMac is running OS X 10.6.8.
When I connect the iPhone using USB, I open iTunes and it Syncs automatically.  I have to manually open it, and iPhoto too.  When I open iPhoto, it shows me the phone but with 0 pictures, even though there are .5 GB of pictures, including brand new ones, on the iPhone.
I have powered off and back on the iPhone and rebooted the iMac, both did not fix the issue.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Actually, all I had to do was reboot my iphone. It got updated today, so maybe it just neded a fresh start. All of my photos uploaded!

I have a macbook pro and I updated iphoto to the latest version, last night.

Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?

  • I imported photos from an old iPhoto (2001) to photo library and can now see them as thumbnails but not when I click on them. The screen is black cannot see or print either. Is there any way to salvage those old photos? I now use iLife09. OS 10.6

I imported photos from an old iPhoto (2001) to photo library and can now see them only as thumbnails but not when I click on them. The screen is black cannot see or print either. Is there any way to salvage those old photos? I now use iLife09. OS 10.6

Did you import the old iPhoto library into the new one? That's not what you want to do because you will import all of the original, modified and thumbnail files as if they were original files. Lots of duplicates and useless small photos.
Do you have a backup copy of the library that you imported into to?  If you do then bring it in and then use  iPhoto Library Manager to merge the two libraries into a new, 3rd library.
If you don't then you'll have to try to fix the current one and then cull out the duplicates and small useless photos as follows:  make a temporary, duplicate copy of your library and apply the three fixes in order as necessary.
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your HD/User/Home()/ Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your HD/User/Home()/Library /Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If this doesn't fix the problem you'll have to start over from scratch and create a new library from the files inside the Originals folder of your current library.  But first you should cull out the small photos that would be the thumbnails from the 2001 library.
Move the Originals folder to the Desktop, open and do a search for Kind=photo, File size is less than 10 KB.  That should find all of the thumbnail files which you can then drag to the Trash.  You might have to make that less than 50 KB. Then Import the remaining photos into a new iPhoto library.

Hi I don't know if I was able to send this question before but here it goes again. I'am doing a poor man's morph project on my motion 4 program, and it works great while in Motion, but once I try to import it to fcp, it will import the photos but not the optical flow fx, what am I doing wrong? I appreciate you help

Decided to use cmd A to select all the icons on the desktop and then looked for a right click option.   There it was - the option to move to a folder.   I now have them all in this folder which tells me it holds 157 items.   Now you know why I needed to know LOL
Thought it might be of help to someone.

  • How can I import pictures from my iphone to PC which I imported to the iphone from another PC? The folder doesn't show on my computer. I see all other pictures I took with the phone but not the imported folder.

How can I import pictures from my iphone to PC which I imported to the iphone from another PC? The folder doesn't show on my computer. I see all other pictures I took with the phone but not the imported folder.

Photos that were synced from a computer won't show for copying to a computer. If you want to copy them back then you will need a third-party app on your phone such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to a device, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer (e.g. their dimensions might be different and their colours may look a bit different).

  • HT201302 I need more space on my iPhone to update to iOS 7.0.6. I was able to import and then delete my Camera Roll but not my Photo Library. How do I do that?

I need more space on my iPhone to update to iOS 7.0.6. I was able to import and then delete my Camera Roll but not my Photo Library. How do I do that?

To delete your photo library you need to connect to iTunes, then remove the selection for the images, then sync the device.
While you are connected to iTunes do the update through iTunes. It takes much less memory as the update is loaded onto your computer, unpacked, then sent to the device.
