Imposing a 12 page spread using Print Booklet...

For some reason, when I save this PostScript file it is only 6 pages instead of 12. Ive checked the file before pressing print and it all looks fine. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any help will be so appreciated! Thanks!

Now for some home truths
Imposing is not your job, it's the printers job - if your printer requires this then they are not a good printers as this is standard for printing companies.
You really should use File>Export and choose PDF (print) and select your settings from there and then use the Print Booklet feature from Acrobat    Print booklets | Acrobat, Reader
If this is for home printing, then it's fine - I'm not going to argue with your methods... But consider the option of Exporting to PDF and printing booklet from Acrobat as above.
Printing to PDF loses a lot of information required for professional printers - as it's passed through postscript which means it loses lots of smartness.
You lose transarencies, anything done in the fx panel, including blend modes.
Colour management is lost
Tagged PDF for accessiblity is lost
And loads of other reasons why it's a bad idea to print to PDF.

  • Blank Spread Using Print Booklet

I am outputting a 48 page booklet using the Print Booklet feature in InDesign CC. Oddly, one spread is printing without the content. Pages 3 and 46 are blank.
I know they are being output, since the crop marks do appear on the spread. The content, however, is left out.
This occurs regardless of the printer. The same thing occurs when I send the output to the PDF printer. The crop marks are there, but otherwise the page is blank.
These pages, 3 and 46, print fine when I output them individually. They're also fine when I output the file to a PDF. It is just the print booklet feature that is loosing the page content.
Does anyone have an idea what is going on here?
    Thanks

I debugged it by removing items from the two pages until I found what was triggering the error. It was an compound vector item. Once I removed that, the page prints fine.

  • How to print a single spread in Print Booklet

Just got ID CS3 - Have a 20 pg booklet from old version, opened fine, but can't make it print a single spread... tell it to print all, and the pages line up OK in Preview - but when I try and print a single spread, 6-15 for instance, only page 6 shows and prints... booklet feature is biggest reason I spent for update... any help? Thanks, Lamar

As far as I can tell, print booklet does just that: it prints a booklet based on just the pages you choose. It does not build a booklet that you can print spreads from. So, if you wanted to print spread 16-5 from a 20 page file, you would have to include the logical pages of the reverse side of that spread. Namely 6 and 15. (Enter 5,6,15,16 to get a four page booklet with two spreads that correspond to what would be in your 20 pager.)
If you are opening a file that is already in printers spreads, I don't think you should be using Print Booklet at all. Just use the regular print dialogue and choose print spreads.

  • Seperating 2-page spreads for printing?

I recently have had trouble with printing my booklets.
I am using 11x17 documents and wish to seperate 2 page spreads for printing?
When i currently print it prints the cover page, page 1, seperate but combines the other spreads, with 2 pages per actual printed page.
I seperate the files one by one for printing currently but i want t0 know if i have to do that, because it wastes valuable time.
Is it a problem with the way i am exporting the file?
Please give me your advice as I am open to other ideas to reaching my main goal.

When you see two pages side-by-side in an InDesign file which is set up with facing pages, that's just how it looks on the screen. If none of the items on your pages span across both pages of a spread, you can output a multi-page PDF, and each page will be independent. In fact, you could have something that crosses the spine on a spread and still output to single pages, but that's not really the point. The double-page part they are talking about is the ability for you to output (for example) pages 2 and 3, which are side-by-side, as a single page that is twice as wide as a normal single page. They also don't want 32 different one-page PDFs for a 32-page book. Neither of these will be a problem if you export your PDF normally. If you see facing pages in the actual PDF, that may be (probably is) just a viewing option. All of the pages will be singles.
The point I want to make is that you don't have to override the facing pages to make a multi-page PDF.

  • Print Pages as spreads without Print Booklet???

I have a document made up with 6 page spreads and 4 page inside. Trying to ouput a proof.
I the 6 pages printed fine. But I want to print pages 3-6 as spreads, as in 6,3,4,5 and to print back to back.
But pages 4,5 came out as spreads and 6,3 came out as single pages...
I need 6,3 to spreads and to back 4,5?

Yeh I prefer the PDF method as Jongware suggested. Placed InDesign files can cause InDesign (well my computer) to go really slow especially when the InDesign pages are fairly content heavy. I don't know why but more that about 16 pages of placed indesign files and InDesign is really slow.
The PDF has the advantage also because you can export to a smaller low res version, and that is perfect for an in-house proof, test my measurements and is faster when sending it through the printer, generally.
I'll have to investigate this problem further. I was hoping it would be a simple matter of inserting something like
    Range: 6,3
and that would treat it like a spread or something?
But it doesn't work, I was hoping for some sort of easy fix like "{6,3}" or something, the way you can do for absolute page numbers with "+1" for the very first page regardless of page numeral or section applied.

  • How do I create a double page spread in a booklet layout on InDesign with out splitting my design and putting them on two separate pages?

I'll try my best to put this in the most simplest way,
Im trying to create a magazine, but I'm finding it difficult to make a double page spread without splitting it in half and putting it on different pages?
Is it possible to set the pages up so they are side by side, and then change them to the right order to print?

Just set them up as letter size pages in reader order. If you are having it printed professionally, send it as a pdf with separate pages, and the printer will handle setting up the printer spreads. If you are printing it from an office printer, both InDesign and Acrobat have Print Booklet functions. Many office printers also have this capability built in.

  • Using print booklet with an indb file

    HI there
I've been asked to stand in at the last moment to give a lecture on imposition tomorrow. The tutors files that I have been given however include an .indb (InDesign Book) file - which doesn't seem to allow me to use the print booklet option in Indesign 4. I can only print booklet with individual chapters.
What I want to do is use the print booklet to create a ps file which I'm going to then open in acrobat to show the imposition layout. I can do this with a single file, but not with a book - can anyone help? Or suggest another way of showing this. I don't want to have to  play about with the book at thie late stage of the night to create a new indesign document - unless I really have no choice.
    Thanks
    Ewan

A projection screen? I make do with a single sheet. Draw these numbers on the front, four columns and two rows -- the top row should be drawn upside down:
    1 16 13 4
    8 9 12 5
flip over the page horizontally (so the upside down '1' at the top left is at the back of top right), then draw these numbers (again, top row upside down):
    3 14 15 2
    6 11 10 7
Show sheet to students, front and back. Roll up sleeves.
Fold in half, column 2/7 on top of 3/6. Fold in half again, column 13/4 on top of 12/5. Fold in half again, page 8 on top of 9. Now you should see a '1' in front of you and a '16' at the back. Slice edges open, show pages in Perfect Bound order.
    Bow, accept applause.

  • Color Separations When Using "Print Booklet" feature

My document has a 2-color logo (black & spot PMS 485) and a 10% black screen on it.  When I make a pdf using the export to pdf everything breaks out correctly.  When I use the print booklet feature and "print" it as a pdf or postscript it changes some of the black in my logo to 4-color black.  It also changes the 10% black screen to 4-color.  I've tried just about every setting I can think of and can't seem to get it to break out correctly.
The below images show what I'm talking about.  The top part of each image is the original InDesign file.  The bottom images are after they have been inserted into the print layout.  The one on the left shows with all colors shown and the one on the right shows the black turned off in the separations preview.  You can see on the bottom of the right one the black screen is still showing and the black in the logo is also because somehow they have been converted to 4-color.

In the Print dialog make sure Output>Color is Composite CMYK, Graphics>Send Data is set to All, and Color Management>Printer Profile is set to Document CMYK.

  • When I try to 'print booklet' InDesign responds "The active document uses multiple page sizes. Print Booklet works only with documents that use a consisten page size." But Document Setup shows that Page Size is Letter (8.5 x 11)

All text and graphics appear within the constraints of the margins. All pages show the same size according to the rulers.

Let me confess I do not understand the workings of the master pages. I had to create master pages from my document to get them to show up. I have a [none] master that shows up, the rest are my content.
Here's a screen cap of my pages panel:

  • Trying to print a 40 page magazine with Print Booklet CS3?

    Hi,
I am trying to print a magazine which is 40 pages, I have InDesign CS3, after checking all the settings, and then hitting the print button, it showing me it is flattening the pages but never gets past page 3 or 4 and just stays there as if it is frozen, at the top it says "not responding".
Does anyone have some advise on this?  And I have a Canon iRunner C3220 C2.  I have sent the pages to Adobe Acrobat Professional and it will send them for print but leaves a gap between the pages and a does not print the page as they are, which are suppose to bleed off the page, it prints them smaller with a white boarder around them, anyone with advise this as well?
    Cheers,
    Sean
    ODC Magazine

You are correct but I am trying to get the document to print fromt the PC, meaning - I would like to send it from the PC to printer and have i come out complete.  At the moment it is printing the magazine on a the 11x17 sheets but it prints the spreads across the page size 8.5x11 as if it was a hanging  calendar not as a magazine which you view landscape with the images as portriats. • Print Booklet issues: indd adds very unnecessary pages to my document when I try to "print booklet"?

I have no idea why this is happening, but it is driving me batty and makes zero sense and I need
I had a 30+ page document that was correctly booklet printing and added chapter start pages through the doc. I did not renumber or start sections on these when adding them, they are in the same section as most of the pages... Basically the document goes like this:
Front Cover -- Page A (recto)
    Blank -- Page B (verso)
    TOC -- Page 1 (recto)
    etc... etc...
Back Cover -- Page 52 (verso)
Suddenly, for some unknown reason that I have not been able to figure out, indesign has now decided that the front cover/back cover printer spread isn't that any longer. It prints a blank page on the printer spread for the front cover (keeping the cover page recto) and the back cover prints in a printer spread beside page 1. It being a function of the sectioning seems the likely culprit, but that sectioning hasn't changed from when I was printing it without the new added pages. I can't start the book pagination until the TOC (page 1), so it has to remain, as well...
Anybody have any ideas? Is there any way to force indd to not add these unnecessary pages? I have unchecked print blank pages and print blank spreads in all the print dialogues and also tried the opposite.

You need to include blank pages. I've never ever used Print Booklet (my experience is firmly rooted in traditional offset printing so I find ID's booklet option ... "a nice cutesy try") but I imagine Print Blank Spreads may also be necessary. However, it should be very unusual to have entire spreads blank.
From your story it's not really clear how many pages (including cover etc.) you have. If it's not a multiple of 4, InDesign will ALWAYS pad it with blank pages. That  is the only way to print as booklet.

  • Print booklet spreads

Couldn't find any recent discussion on this.  I am using CS4 on MAC 10.6.  I print my own booklets for my quilt pattern business, these are half letter pages on letter size paper.  I use the "print booklet" feature to print the spreads and then run them off on my copier.  The issue is that sometimes I find an error on ONE page and there is no choice in printing spreads, just pages in the "print booklet" in CS4.  When trying to print certain pages, you end up with changing the spreads.  My question is:
In CS5.5 has this feature changed or are you still unable to print spreads after choosing "print booklet?"

Print booklet has not changed. I recommend printing to PDF for ths kind of work, then you can pick any spread you want. or exchange pages with the original PDF.

  • Print Booklet Spread

    InDesign CS3
I am working on an 8 page booklet, 8.5" by 5.5".  I am printing using "Print Booklet".  I just want to print the spread I have made changes in like 2 & 7. How do I do that.  All I can find is Print All. How do I specify the page spread in the Range section?
    Thank you.
    Cheers!  Phil

Didn't work.  I tried 2, 7, Spread saddle stitched and got 2 on one page and 7 on another page.
That does not seem like a good thing.  If you have a 16 page booklet and change one page you have to print the entire booklet again.
    Thanks for you responses.
    Cheers!  Phil

  • Print booklet still only recognises 'consistent' page sizes

Why is one still not able to print multiple page sizes through print booklet in Indesign? One would think that since I can work with multiple pages sizes, I can output theme correctly - without a work around!

Calling it a convenience feature is not helping it, as it is more of an inconvenience now. I was not asking for a 'full-blown professional imposition engine', but merely for the Adobe to make all considerations when making new features available. This 'convenience feature' is used much more extensively than you may know. My request is not an unreasonable one.

  • How do i create a printers spread from a design spread for a booklet?

I'm new to InDesign (taking a Page Layout class) so I'm not to good with it yet. I created a Designer Spread for an 8 page booklet for this class and I have no idea how to switch around each page so that it can be a 2 up sattle stitch booklet. I can't use the "Print Booklet Option" because it organizes my pages in a wierd way...any help ASAP would be amazing...
    Thanks
ps I attached 2 screen shots. 1 of my current designer spread and one of the printer spread that I'm supposed to use to print it out.

You can creat a new file that is NOT facing pages and each page is twice as wide. You can place the pages of your original file or a PDF exported from it in the pattern you need for imposition, but it's a big pain and not really worth the effort. There are scripts and plugins that can impose the file for you if you don't want to use Print Booklet. IDImposer is an inexpensive plugin for InDesign that does true impostion inside ID, and until the end of the year it is being offered for free by the developer.
