Impossible Filter on Bex for free characteristic

Hi,
We have a problem on a workbook. Our query has as free characteristics company and profit center for enabling the user to filter on the workbook.
But when the query is executed on the workbook and the user try to select filter values on company or profit center the dialog always show no data, and the filter is not possible.
The only way to filter for individual value is make a drill-down and later a drill-up, after this process filter dialog shows values for filtering. But this method is very slow and heavy for the users.
Any suggestion will be appreciate.

I too am having the same problem.
Its with WBS Element. I have restricted WBS element to some values in the "Charectaristic Restrictions" and then in the "Default Values" selected the hierarhy node variable.
The query runs fine if the selection is made from the "Change Variable Values" button in the Analyzer but when I try to select any nodes in the Filters on the analyzer it give "No Applicable Data".
Can anyone please explain.
I am on BI 7.0.

BI7.0(Stack 11)-3.X Analyzer- Is there any limit for Free Characteristic?

We are on BI 7.0 Stack 10. . The same happens in Stack 11 too.
Problem : Looks like when a query with 101 or more free characteristic is executed in 3.X Bex Analyzer, the swapping of the characteristic will bring different characteristics. Even the Add drilldown also does the same.
NOTE: I just have a single key figure in columns and a single characteristic in row.
For Eg: If I swap country with city, then instead of city it might bring employee.
This does not happen if the free characteristic is = 100. if it is greater than 100 then it does a bad swapping or drilldown.
NOTE: I did not see this problem in the 3.X web runtime.
As per sap's help there is no limit for free charcteristic. Please see the link below.

How to avoid # in the report output in BEx for null characteristic values?

Hi All,
In a query output, # values are shown for the charactersitics which are null. I would appreciate if someone would help showing null instead of # in the reports for the null values.

Hi,
There are various options.
1. Exclude the # in filters for that chararcteristics, it will remove all # values.
2. Display the text for that Characteristcs which will be displayed as "Not assigned".
3. If you want to display as "Null", Change the entry in text table of the charaterictics for value # as "Null".
4. While updating this filed in cube/DSO write routine to replace #/blank with "Null".

How can i manipulate Filter for a free characteristic?

Hello,
I have an report with free characteristic 0material.
When the user restricts values for 0material, the report should add value "#" automatically whatever the user selects.
Example:
Material: aa123, aa124,aa125, #.
when i filter:
aa123 --> query: aa123+#
aa124 --> query: aa124+# and so on.
i'm trying to do this with user exit for global variables but i'm not beeing sucessfull.
Any ideia?

What i want is:
if the user input is M001 then ABAP should convert it as M001,#
If the user input is M001, M002 then ABAP should convert it as M001, M002,#
If the user input is M001, M002, M003 then ABAP should convert it as M001, M002, M003,#
is like M001 or M002.
i tried with several options and nothing works.
Last change:
Only 1 one variable with Changeable with Query Navigation function active and user input not active.
ABAP code:
    IF i_step = 2.
      CLEAR loc_var_range.
      loc_var_range-vnam = 'VAR1'.
      loc_var_range-iobjnm = 'INFOOBJECT'.
      loc_var_range-sign = 'I'.
      loc_var_range-opt = 'EQ'.
      loc_var_range-low = '#'.
      APPEND loc_var_range TO i_t_var_range.
    ENDIF.
This is still not working. I executed the query in debug and i notice that table i_t_var_range does not have the new entry with # in step 3.
Am i doing somethign wrong?

Drill/Down don't work and Characteristic is deleted after filter in BEx Ana

Hi All, please help me experts
I have 2 issue:
1.- When I execute a Query in BEx Analyzer I got the first result, I can add other characteristics just to click on this.. or with context menu.. but later If I try to move de order of columns in the report the function for drill down doesn't work. Then, I need to click on Design mode and then click off design mode... and the function for drill and down is actived, then only I can click on the characteristics and move to other column into the report. Please if you can tell how can I activate this functionality without need to move to design mode..
2.- When one characteristics is filter in to the report, example select some values for this characteristics and click on execute, I get the result but this characteristics dissapear form the report.
Please help me I will assign points for the answers.

1. You will find this option beside ? in Add-Ins. In that Settings --> BW Server Connection.
+ Not I didn't find... for example I saw... File.. Edit...view.. Insert... and others exactly like when you enter in excel ... the only difference it's that I saw activated the tool bar for bex analyzer.. on where I saw .. design mode... refresh..etc.+
2. If you select the field in Free characteristics and restrict it with a variable in query designer mode, you will get that characteristic in variable screen and you can give the selection and you will not get that charcteristic in the output as you have taken that in free characteristic. Only if you do drilldown accross rows for that characteristic, then it will appear.
If you take that into Rows in query designer mode, then you will get the same for variable selection and as well as in the output without drilldown accross rows. It will be displayed automatically.
+The clear example is: I have one free characteristic in report, like 0MATERIAL, this characteristics didn't have any restric value... then the user add 0MATERIAL into report just for see more details... later if the user filter 0MATERIAL with some values and click ok, the column 0MATERIAL dissapear from the report +

Issue with Free Characteristic filtering in BEx Query

We are using Cost Center hierarchy as a free characteristic in the report and when the user tries to apply a filter for selecting a particular cost center, we are able to see both the Key and Text. But after the query applies the filter and if we go back to change the filter from one cost center to the other, we are not able to see the Text of the cost center. It is just displaying the cost center number. The only way we can get the text back is by refreshing the query. Any suggestions on how to avoid this problem?

I tested couple of other reports where the cost center hierarchy is created as a free characteristic and the problem is appearing in all the queries.

Dynamic Filter in report omitted when characteristic not in output.

Hi all,
Hopefully someone can help me with the following:
Since upgrading from 7.01 to 7.4, we encounter strange behaviour in a (WAD-) report.
When filtering a free (compounded-) characteristic by excluding certain members via the navigation panel, the filter only works when the characteristic in question is displayed in the output. When you drag it out of the presented layout, the excluded member is included again, as we see the keyfigures go up to the level when it had when it was included. The filter display however still shows the characteristic member as being excluded.
In 7.0, this phenomenon can not be reproduced.
I've searched the net and SAP notes, so far with no success.
Any ideas?

Yes, let me explain the reason because sales have to be database delegated.
In my case sales is not the sum of quantity of productos bought by a customer, sales is like a indicator that show me if customer bought or doesnt bought.
For example David is my customer and i sell 3 types of products: A, B and C.
Date 12.04.2011 David bought product A and B and 13.04.2011 David bought just product C.
In my report if i want to analyze sales by day and customer i have to have the following result:
*****Date 12.04.2011 and customer Dave
            Sales = 1
*****Date 13.04.2011 and customer Dave
            Sales = 1
In my report if i want to analyze sales by day and type of produc i have to have the following result:
*****Date 12.04.2011 and customer Dave
            Sales Product A= 1
            Sales Product B= 1
*****Date 13.04.2011 and customer Dave
            Sales Product C= 1
Can you see my point??
In date 12.04.2011 i cant do a sum if i am analyzing sales by customer because if i do a sum dave show me a sales of 2.
The only way that i found for this behavior is to use database delegated.
I will wait for your answer.

Authorization to inhibit the drilldown of a Free Characteristic in a Query

Hi all
I have a problem: I want to implement authorizations profiles for two different roles linked to two users, in order to allow the execution of a query from Bex Analyzer. The Query contains the free characteristic "A", which is an authorization relevant object
- On the first role I want to allow the user to display only values "x" and "y" for the characteristic A: I used analysis authorizations and it works properly
- On the second one role I need to inhibit the possibility to drilldown characteristic "A", but the user should execute the same query without restrictions. Is it possible without creating a new Query that doesn't contain "A" as a free characteristic?

Hi,
Have you tried authorization value ':'? Basically, value ':' has 2 purposes.
1. Enable execution of query that do not contain authorization-relevant InfoObjects that are checked in the cube.
2. Enable summary data to be reported for characteristic levels where users does not have authorization to access details data.
So, perhaps you can give the user authorization value ':' and build your second query without the authorization object in the free chars.

Hi Viren,
difference between filter and free characteristics is that free characteristics can be added to drilldown at query runtime. Filter values can not be changed at query runtime.
You can add a filter to a query by placing a characteristic in filter section and restrict the characteristic to certain values. Characteristics in rows / columns / free characteristics section can be restricted to certain values, too.

Cell definitions depending on value of free characteristic

Hello,
I have the following requirement for one BEx query:
Depending on the value of a free characteristic (material), values in certain cells shall be shown or not. Values in these cells are usually calculated by cell definitions. When the user selects certain materials (e.g. A1, C3) during query navigation the values in those cells have to be 0, i.e. the values that are calculatd by cell definitions should not be shown.
When other materials are chosen by the user, those cells should show the calculated values.
I tried to create a replacement path formula variable in order to create a 0/1-switch (find out the value of the selected material and compare it with predefined materials (A1, C3)).
However, the value of a formula variable has to be a number. So that's no solution for my requirement.
Do you have any ideas how to solve this requirement? Note that there is no entry variable for material.

Hi,
Make 3 restricted key figurs on market value restricting them with rating AAA, AA and A.
Lets say RKF1 for rating AAA
RKF2 for rating AA and
RKF3 for rating A.
Now you can use these 3 key figurs in your formula key figure which can simple be
RKF10,4 + RKF20,3 + RKF3*0,2.
In this way you are already sure that only one of the RKF's will have a value and depending on the rating it will be multiplied with the value you have in your logic.

I need to determine the data type (e.g. numeric vs alpha numberic) of a free characteristic in a multiprovider. Can this be accomplished in BEx Query Designer?
If not, can it be accomplished in RSA1? How?

give that object name if it is infoobject then you can get via RSD1

Need to restrict values in F4 help for Batch Characteristic

Hi,
I need to restrict values in F4 Help for a batch characteristic based on values entered for another characteristic. I could not find any BADI or Exit for this purpose. There is a BADI CACL_VALUE which is triggered after an entry is selected from dropdown list but nothing when we press F4. I thought of using Object Dependency but I need to write a programming logic for the requirement. Please let me know if there is any way to write program in Object Dependency or any other way for this requirement.

first of all, find out which search help is called.

may help you.
If you know the search help, you may enhance it, but first of all you should check the where-used-list and make sure that the search help shows the requested behavior only in the context where you want it to.
If it is your own program, you may be better off to create your own search help and define the triggering fields as search help interface input fields. Then you can use the values to filter results.

Supress warning message in Query Analyzer after free characteristic removed

Hi
I have a query and several workbooks looking to the same query.
When I remove a free characteristic from the query (not the cube) I am presented with a warning message when opening Analyzer indicating that the removed field is no longer available on the report.
Is there any way to supress these warning messages? I am aware of the option Settings > Supress warnings from server but I would not want to ask every people to do this in the company. Is there a way I can supress the warning from the query?
We are running 3.x for this particular query and report.

Required to show free characteristic in the background job

We have a query format that started with chacteristic company code, plant follow by key figures. We define 0material as a free characteristic in the query. Currently, users would like to schedule this query in the background with the format for company code, plant, 0material follow by key figures. Can we acheive it when we schedule the query in the background with free l characteristic 0material show in the format instead of creating another new report with additional characteristic 0material added?

Well if was workbook using a pre calcualation server we could have achieved what you desired..
I am afraid you would have to build a new Query with Material in column for your requirement
