Impossible migration

I imagine this might have been answered already, but I didn't find it in my search. Thanks for your patience.
I want to migrate from my iBook (10.4.1) to my new iMac, and big guy is not seeing the little guy. (it does work the other way around when I go to target mode) I know I can drag and drop, but migration assistant is much more elegant and automated, so it's my 1st choice.
So I found the appropriate firmware update and downloaded it, as this seems to resolve the issue. Only problem is it gives me a Classic error message, and I can't launch the file from within the OS 9 environment. I found one post that said something like, "update your firmware before going to 10.4 or else you won't be able to run OS9". If that's the case, then I'm screwed and that ship has sailed.
I called Tech, and they don't support Classic any more.
I am frustrated and feel jilted: I have spent over $20,000 on Apple products in my computer using life, and I think the lack of support for an item that came on a G4 just a few years ago is shameful.
Anyone out there with an idea? Thanks so much.

I "ran" OS 9. The menus went back to the old font I remember so well from my youth, and I found the Firmware installer in the "Open" menu.
OS 9 can be used two ways -
• it can be used as Classic, in which case the machine is booted to OSX (OSX is running the machine, i.e. it is the operating system) and OS 9 is run as a program in order to provide an environment in which many (but not all) OS 9 programs can be run.
• on those machines which support OS 9 booting, it can also be used as the boot OS, i.e. the operating system which is running the machine.
In order to boot an OS 9-bootable machine to OS 9 while the machine is running OSX, OS 9 must be selected in the Startup Disk control pane in OSX's System Preferences, and then the machine restarted. Once that has been done it should be possible to install an applicable firmware update.
However, in your case, and my apologies for not catching this before, if the iBook in question is an iBook G4 model (as the specs in your post indicate), then it can not boot to OS 9 - no G4 iBook can. That also means there is no firmware update applicable to it.

I have my entire history of Flash files that open in the new version of Flash with all the old scripts erased.
How do I even identify which scripts have been erased in this new version?
I have games and a VJ system that i built and still regularly use.. both of which are now static and worthless.
Do i have to rebuild all of these from the ground up with Action script 3?

If you can`t get on your hands on a version of CS6, which is the last Flash version which supported AS2, than you have to decompile one of your working swf-files with a decompiler, which will at least parse all the code you put on the timeline.

Impossible to share folders as guest since migrated to OS Lion

I wish to share some folders having guest access. It was working well with Leopard but since I migrated to Lion it is impossible.
I have access to my shared folders but only by entering the login/password
The option "Allow guests to connect to shared folder" is enabled.
Is a known issue?

Indeed, the issue does not come from the Wiki.
After creating a new wiki exempt of calendar, the pages are displayed w/o problem in guest mode.
Interestingly, I still get the same message in the Console, which is in fact a warning.
So the error must be found elsewhere…

HT4796 It is impossible to pass the log in phase using an user created by the migrate PC to MAC Assistant

The migration assistant (PC Windows Vista Premium edition to MAC) has created a new user on the MAC. Unfortunately it is impossible to log the system in using that user: no password accepted. I tried to change the user password but the login result still impossible.

I am trying to migrate from MobileMe to iCloud. Several trials to update the iPhone with iTunes to v5 however failed. Safeguarding iPhone content takes > 6 hours and blocks at about 10 %. Syncing iPhone and Mac is no problem. Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Your understanding is almost correct. APEX application is not only the “source code” of the application, which you get upon exporting the application from your original APEX engine. You also need all the supporting objects of the application, on the database level – tables, sequences, stored procedures, and every other database resources your application is using. Those will not be included in the APEX application export file.
After you duplicate the APEX database environment (like the schema that was associated with the APEX workspace), you can import the application, and it all should work just fine.

User Profiles are the wrong style after importing/migrating site collections from other SharePoint versions

I manage a couple of different version of SharePoint, which we are in the process of migrating to SharePoint 2013. I have a problem which I am not sure how to resolve. We are using MetaLogix to migrate site and site collection data from an older SharePoint
2007/WSS3.0 server environment into our new SharePoint 2013 environment and we are having a problem with user profiles that get created.
I have SharePoint 2013 set up for "SharePoint Profile Synchronization" and some of our user's profiles are being created in an older format that shows the user's claims account information, rather than the more fancy profile type that allows us
to include pictures and click on "follow this person" links.
If we manually delete the profile, it will be recreated properly however, as we are migrating many sites and collections over, it is near impossible to do this and keep track of each user so that their profiles can be deleted and recreated.
Is there some way to change this behavior so that SharePoint will only create the newer style of user profile?

These 'profiles' are you looking at them in the User Profile Service Application itself or are you looking at site collections? There is a huge difference between the two but people often miss it.
In most cases you'll have some partial information on the Site Collections but when you click through to their actual profile (not just their User Information List entry) you'll see the prettier version. That information is normally internally synchronised
by a timer job but that may not have run yet and/or the fact that your users haven't actually used the site may be causing it not to update them (it's an efficiency matter).
Finally: Drop your sales guy at Metalogix an email, they will bounce it to one of their techies and they'll have seen it a million times.

Data Migration of FI-CA Cleared Items

Hi,
Currently I am working on a Data Migration project to migrate data from our FI-CA module on ERP 4.7 to ECC 6.0.
THere has been a request from the business to migrate historical data (e.g. Cleared items).
Is there a SAP recommended approach or tools to load this data into the target environment?
Currently all documentation around SAP data migrations talks about stategies for open item data migration however I have seen nothing arouund migrating historical financial data.
Is this because it is not recommended or technically impossible?

That BAPI is used typically for straight out vanilla GL, AR, AP postings, however you still have to create the other side of the entry and then clear it.
I need to be able to migrate full history, which means from an FI-CA viewpoint:
1. Migrate FI-CA posting of liability against BP/contract account.
2. Migrate associated payments.
3. And then clearing documents.
Basically the requirement is to represent the historical data in the new system as if it was posted and matched off.
Is there a technical way to do this?
OR,
Do you migrate the FI-CA liabilties, then the associated payments and then run clearing on the target system?
I suspect this is almost an impossible data migration requirement as development of the extraction and load process would be extremely complex and testing would take months to cover all posting scenarios in FI-CA. However, I would be interested if anyone has attempted to do this before.

Why is it so hard to migrate to Symbian?

I decided to switch from my Sony Ericson/UIQ phone to an N8 and quite honestly I have transferred most of the 500 contacts tediously over single bluetooth to messages at a time.
Before you tell me about OVI suite etc, many people may not have a PC, or may not get to install the Nokia Suite, or simply are scared or more bloating of their PC's.You should make handset to handset data portability.
I pulled out an old 6630 I had with a full address book, youre datastorer.sis file you send over does not work in older phones. UIQ rejects it (application is invalid) and so do the 2nd getn Symbian phones....
The issue is that you still don't support multi vcf support multiple VCF business cards as single messages instead of just reading the first card and stopping.
Why is it so hard? You guys at Nokia should know that people just give up, if they don't get to personalize their phone and get their data on, they just return it and go for another phone. So serious effort needs to go into this.
In comparision I got I got the (SE) VCF frile from the N8 and emailed it to myself picked up the email with my iPod/Iphone/iPad and in under a minute I had the 500 contacts in Apple devices.
Maybe instead o trying to invent augmentned reality gizmos you can focus on getting core functionality right. Maybe people will be able to switch to Symbian. If it is impossible to switch to Symbian no one will.... why not make a iPhone App for people to dump their data in a way it can be pulled into a Symbian phone.... Lots of people are sick of their iPhone and the battery shenigans.....

Yes but that depends you putting your data on some US based juggernaut or 3rd party that probably you may not trust with your personal data. I personally don't.
This is essential functionality that is necesary for customers to adopt Nokia products and Nokia should not be letting 3rd parties whether or how easy it is to migrate to their devices.

Migrating multiple domains with same name - how? Rename? Migrate through temporary domain?

we have acquired another company, and they have multiple, separate domains with the same name (every site has a domain with NetBIOS name "COMPANY" and DNS name "company.local"). Now we want to migrate all these domains into ours using
ADMT.
Unfortunately, we did not manage to migrate one of these domains completely, so the trust must remain established for some time. But we have to continue with the second domain - which normally would require a trust, but of course we can't establish a trust
to two domains with the same name at the same time.
I found two potential solutions for the dilemma, but I'm not sure if both are reasonable:
1) Rename the domain with RENDOM.EXE to COMPANY2 and company2.local and then migrate with ADMT
2) Migrate COMPANY to a temporary domain such as COMPANYTEMP and then migrate from COMPANYTEMP to our domain
Given that there are roughly 100 users, 2 domain controllers and 8 other servers, what would be the better approach? Is option 2 possible at all, so would I be able to use the sidHistory attribute migrated from the original COMPANY domain in our domain at
all?
There is also an Exchange 2007 server, which seems to make option 1 impossible unless we find another way to migrate it (like, export all mailboxes to PST before migration) ...

I didnt find it under that folder in BO 4.1 but I find it under that folder in BO XI 3.1.

Migrate Roles failes when migrating VMs with legacy network adapters (2008R2 - 2012)

I'm working on a upgrade of Hyper-V 2008R2 cluster to Hyper-V 2012 cluster. I am using the "migrate roles" feature of failover clustering to migrate the CSV's and VM's. The wizard ask to which switch the VMs need to be connected on the target cluster.
All VMs with network adapters can be started in the new cluster without any issues. If you look at the XML file of the migrated VMs with normal network adapters, a new XML has been generated in the proper 2012 format. However, all VM's with a legacy
network adapter fail to start. Also there is no migrated XML file in the VM directory. It is impossible to check or adjust the settings of the migrated VMs with legacy network adapters using the failover clustering console.
I have reproduced the issue in my lab several times, and it seems like a bug.
There are several workarounds, but I am looking for a real solution.

We recommend that you use the legacy network adapter only to perform a network-based installation or when the guest operating system does not support the network adapter.
If the virtual machine continues to use the legacy network adapter it will not be able to leverage many of the features available in the Hyper-V virtual switch. You may want
to replace the legacy network adapter after the operating system is installed.

Migration project: FI/CO/SD/MM/PS/RE (4.6c R/3 - ERP6 with unicode)

Hi,
Before getting to my question I have for you let me explain you some background:
As project manager, I am involved in a pre-study of a project for migrating an existing non-hrm solution (FI/CO/SD/MM/PS/RE/Workflow) from a local 4.6c R/3 landscape towards a global ERP6 (UC) instance. The existing non-hrm solution is integrated with HR mainly for Payroll postings. The 4.6c feeds a BW3.1, the ERP6 feeds a BI7.0.
The project consists of 5 major deliverables:
1) technical migration of applicative/reporting layer (Programs, DDIC, BW reports ...)
2) adaptation interfacing (integration points HR-Non-HRM will be handled through standard ALE
3) process integration (non-hrm will get integrated with existing global processes such as Global Organizational management, Global Personal administration)
4) reporting integration (non-hrm reportings will get integrated with existing global reportings)
5) data migration (all non-hrm data pass from 4.6c to ERP6)
As you can read this project is about a carve-out of existing processes and the migration/integration of them into a global platform. Main driver for this project is the globalization of non-hrm processes.
Now my question is a rather technical one, concerning point 5 "Data migration": the project approach would be to use a standard ALE initial/LSMW load for migrating the FI/CO/MM/SD/PS data from 4.6c to ERP6. Now, after discussion with SAP Basis team, it was issued that such a direct data migration is impossible due to the fact that there is a difference
- in SAP version (4.6c vs ERP6)
- in database character set (NUC in 4.6c vs UC in ERP6)
(I personally doubt that this is an issue since ALE is able to cope with different SAP versions)
So the SAP Basis team propose to do such a project in 3 steps (in stead of one):
1) split non-hrm and bring in to a new 4.6c instance
2) upgrade that new 4.6c with non-hrm to ERP6 (local instance)
3) migrate non-hrm from ERP6 (local instance) to the other ERP6 (global instance)
Can someone share some experience and/or confirm the best data migration approach for such a project?

There is a group @ SAP named "System Landscape Optimization", who does those kind of things:
          o Delete, merge, split or rename company codes, controlling areas etc.
          o Harmonize customizing and master data like chart of accounts or vendors
          o Reorganize System Landscape (merge systems, move business areas)
Since you environment is pretty complex, I suggest opening an OSS call on XX-SER-CS, describe just what you wrote here and you will get contacted.
I would NOT do such a merge on my own without involvement of SAP and the corresponding people who know the underlying data model.

About FHMX, how about educating people why Freehand is so
much better than
ill, and publishing a migration guide from ill to Freehand.
Maybe you and I
can join Adobe and implement this program! As a matter of
fact I've already
written the introduction to the guide.
Top reasons why I love using Freehand MX over Illustrator for
the work we
do. Try it, and you'll like it too.
•Gouping and ungrouping is time consuming in ill. If an
object on the bottom
is grouped, the whole group is selected. Selecting the bottom
object is
useless unless you ungroup all. Very time consuming.
Freehand can select one element even if it's part of a group.
• It is common in ill & FHMX to hold down shift
while clicking on objects to
select several at a time. ill has a tendency to 'pick up'
& move those
objects as your moving from one to the other. Which means
having to back up
your last step and then continue.
•• ill select/same/stroke colour, fill colour
etc. VS FHMX 'find & replace'
In ill available only 'document wide' which forces you to
take the selection
and place it in a new document (usually a temporary measure
ill forces upon
you).
All this copying takes extra time when the art is complex.
Since changing colours is often the goal, opening a new
document means
having to drag into the new doc, all the colours you'll be
needing to
change.
Also when choosing same fill & stroke colour, ill doesn't
catch everything,
so you have to try several times to get everything.
FHMXs 'find & replace' runs on whatever you select,
without requiring
copying
the info to a new document, so there is no waiting like in
ill. And it
catches everything all in one shot. Wham, bam thank you maam.
FHMXs 'find &
replace' light years ahead of ill.
• Multiple page documents
FHMX multi page documents can be of different sizes and
orientation within a
single document. Ill must have the same size and orientation.
Ill allows only one page size & page format while FHMX
permits you to use
any combo within the same document, all with the click of a
button. Job's
done.
ill: go into doc setup and calculate new overall width.
"let's see I need 5 pages of 8.5x11 so that's 8.5" x 5 pages
=42.5" width.
If you add a page, all the doc info gets shifted off center.
Ill requires
you to select all, (make sure nothing is locked!) and
recenter all the
pages. All time consuming and unnecessary in FHMX.
Ill can't handle multiple pages when it come time to print
them all. In
order to be able to print an 8 page document with simple
vector art (without
any linked files) in illustrator, it was necessary to convert
the document
to 8 single page documents. Each page took 5 minutes , 40 min
total.
FHMX prints multiple page documents with no hesitation.
••ill has no collect for output. This is
ridiculous. FHMX enables you to
enjoy creating freely without having to think of where that
tiff you just
imported came from. When the art is finished in FH, click
'collect for
output' and in under 5 seconds a complete folder is created
of everything
you need to backup that artwork.
Never spend one second looking for anything again when
opening a freehand
document. Not today, not tomorrow, or in three months.
In ill, after the art is done, you need to spend the time
looking for those
linked files, to gather them into a folder. And when a
deadline is so
important, will you actually take the time? NO! So days,
weeks, or months
later, when you need to open the file and the tiff is
missing, well, I hope
you like treasure hunts, because with time tiffs can be moved
or go missing.
With this one feature, FH saves hours of time per year over
ill.
•Pathfinder/combine in ill is slow ad often crashes the
program. (See next
point) Freehand unite is Fast!. ill requires you to ungroup
all elements
before using the filter. FHMX doesn't.
••Paste inside.
FHMX enables you to use garment sketches without modifying
shapes to
accommodate a tiff pasted inside. Tons less work over ill.
'Paste inside' in
FHMX is fast & effortless, encouraging you to paste
inside each individual
shape of the garment. (Ex. Belt loops, waistband, pockets,
body. All get
their own tiff pasted inside.) This gives the artist freedom
over each
individual tiff. Changes can be applied in light/dark or
angle to each tiff
seperatly from one another.
Ill cannot do this without a massive investment in time, it
doesn't even
compare with the ease of FHMX. ill method is also a pain to
work with ,
requiring you to lock/unlock items as the masks bounding box
is often in the
way. This requires you to lock nearby elements in order
select. Very
annoying. This work around is so time consuming it
discourages you to paste
inside individual shapes. In fact it's impractical to do so.
You're forced
to combine all shapes and paste one tiff into this one
overall shape, which
is time consuming because it increase your workload to
achieve a lesser
result.
Ill requires you to draw a duplicate shape which must lie in
perfect
register with the shape underneath it. Shapes are often
composed of highly
complex components (ex:text) that need to be united into one
overall shape,
to paste into. Often these complex shapes crash illustrators
unite filter,
making the job time consuming or impossible. FHMX requires
none of this
workaround, because FHMX enables you to past into individual
shapes.
FHMX can even paste inside a paste inside, and in easily
accesible layers,
creating realistic effects. Don't even dream of doing this in
ill.
•ill toolbox. The 'Venus' girl at the top of the box is
often clicked in
error resulting in an annoying 'Adobe online' dialogue box
appearing. So
annoying! Bury this feature elsewhere, or at least move it
away from the two
arrow tools, the two most used tools of the whole program!
Stop interrupting
workflow!
•Ill locking unlocking frenzy
You'd like to add a point to a path. In FHMX, select the path
and click on
it
with the pen tool. You're done.
In ill, select the path and click on it with the pen tool +.
But ill adds
the point to the path in front, even though you selected the
one in back!
Ill forces you to lock the front path to get to the rear
path. If your
artwork has many layered paths, get ready to go on the usual
locking frenzy
until you get to the path you need. All this just to add a
point.
As an added bonus, ill often throws the "Can't add an anchor
point. Please
use the add anchor point tool on a segment of a path"
dialogue box in your
face, as if you can't aim a point on a path.
Paste inside
• Because paste inside in ill is so complicated, a
common workaround is to
create a pattern swatch to achieve the same ease as in FHMX.
However pattern
swatches are simple vector paths that can't match the
subtlety of a tiff.
When opening a new document, swatches have to be brought in
to the new
document to be used.. When changing a pattern colour, a new
swatch has to be
created, which is more time consuming than changing the tiff
colour in FHMX.
5 seconds vs. 5 minutes
• The arrow+ tool in Ill selects in increments of one
group at a time. FHMX
selects in increments of one element at a time, giving the
user greater
control over elements within groups.
• In Ill before using Pathfinder/Unite, you should
save, because pathfinder
tool often crashes the program. Since large documents take
time to save,
waiting time in Ill multiplies. FHMX doesn't crash when using
the pathfinder
tool so much time and frustration is saved.
Sometimes Pathfinder in Ill just won't work the way it's
expected to. I wind
up importing the art into FHMX where it works fine and
instantly.

Since Adobe was planning this for some time, let's not jump
to conclusions. Mordy did confirm to us that there is indeed a
Product Manager for FreeHand. Also, it's interesting to note that
Adobe has a different situation on their hands than they did with
Pagemaker. What we have is two competing (?) programs, FH and Illy,
they are both truly loved by their devoted users. Adobe probably
realizes that they gave to keep both because the users of either
program have been devoted for years. Neither Illy or FH users would
be happy about migrating. Adobe I'm sure will keep both programs
(at least I'm hoping they are smart enough to). When Adobe migrated
Pagemaker users to InDesign, InDesign was a new tool. Illy is old
like FH...you ca't force a migration to a tool that is just as old
as the one your migrating from.

Migrating from Bridge CS6 to CC

Hi, is there a way to migrate labels, keywords and collections to Bridge CC? It is impossible to do this to 30,000+ images.

It amazes me that my original posting Migrating from Bridge CS6 to Bridge CC did not return any information. Am I missing something here? I am not even sure what you mean by 'unhide them in explorer' I use chrome and safari. Are you referring to unhiding the System Library?

Impossible to change Apple id for iCloud

Hello,
I have an Apple Id for iTunes on my MB and unfortunatlely I gave another email adress (this means another apple id was created) for iCloud.
So I have 2 Apple Id, and of course I forgot the pwd of the second one (for iCloud) and it's just impossible to change it because for some unknowable reasons :
1- the email confirmation to verify this mail address never arrives on my mbox !!!
2- the asnwer to the private question is wrong !!! Awesome, i think i know my birthday but it seems like iCloud stored a wrong information !!
So I just can't change neither the pwd of this second Apple Id neither the Id itself to come back to a simplier configuration : only one apple id ...
Consequences are awesome :
1- By default, appstore on the iPhone use the iCloud Apple ID --> I can't download anymore apps because i don't have the pwd
2- It's impossible to change iCloud id on the iPhone to put the first one used for iTunes on my MB
The most strangest thing is that on the website https://www.icloud.com/ , I can log on with the iTunes apple Id ....
I called the hotline, they can't answer me and of course, there's no contact mail on iCloud website ....

You can't change the primary email address, the one you created when you opened an iCloud account (or if you migrated from MobileMe the address you log in with) other than by opening a completely new account.

However you can create three 'email aliases' - these are extra addresses, not accounts, which deliver into the same inbox as the main address.

It's actually quite a good idea to give out an alias address rather than the main one, since these can be easily changed should you get spammed.
