  • IPhone 5 stuck at recovery mode. Can't recover, unknown error (2001).

I've upgraded my 3GS to an iPhone 5 about 3 weeks back, and I was resonably happy with the 6.0.1 installed.
After upgrading to 6.0.2, the battery in my iPhone 5 began to drain and could only last for a maximum of 4-5 hours. I've tried it all, tweaking the settings to conserve power, even tried some solutions posted on other forums, restoring back to factory settings, doing a soft reset, hard reset, even tried redownloading the iOS 6.0.2 and I think the worst just happened ...
Battery died (cuz I'm out of power right.)
Charged it to Apple's USB power outlet.
Stuck at Apple boot logo, wouldn't proceed but instead it tries booting again, and again, and again....
So I tried a hard reset, and put it into DFU mode, hopefully it will be stable again after recovery.
Plug my iPhone back to my Mac OSX 10.8.2, iTunes tries to unpack the OS and attempts the restore...
Instead, it's now stuck at the recovery mode, and iTunes gives me, "The iPhone cannot be restored. an unknown error occured (2001)."
And then, the iPhone attempts to restart, goes back to connect to iTunes mode (DFU) and the cycle then repeat itself again.
Any of you guys having the same issue? I can't seem to find a fix anywhere

I've sent it in to my local telco to get a replacement because I simply can't find another way around it.
Has anyone tried with the new iOS update to 6.1.0? Let me know if it works. I'm still waiting for a replacement from Maxis (Apple's Authorised iPhone after sales support here in Malaysia).
They have a stupid policy of waiting up to 2 weeks before I get a replacement. At the meantime, Maxis just expects me to be phone-less for 2 whole week although they have prepared back-up iPhone5 stocks for a 1on1 exchange. Their reason: Oh, we cannot read your IMEI no, we need to send it back to the distributor.
This frustrates and furiates me. Why can't Apple Malaysia be more professional about it like how it's done in U.S.?
    Gahhhhhhhh....

  • TS3694 Can't restore and recover iPhone 4s. Keep getting The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (14). Help please!

Please help. I simply connected my iPhone 4s to my Dell laptop (Win 8) which connected to iTunes automatically (which it normally does) and was told that I needed to update my software (I believe for both iPhone OS and iTunes). I tried to update and now my iPhone won't work at all. I just keep going in circles trying to restore and recover and I keep getting the error message: The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (14). All I see on my iPhone 4s screen is a cable connector, a little up arrow, and an iTunes symbol--and nothing else works.

    Hi msclaude,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  I'm not sure from your post what steps you have tried, but it sounds like you may need to use recovery mode to address the issue with your unresponsive iPod touch.

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
You can put your iOS device into recovery mode, then restore it using iTunes.
    Use recovery mode
You might need to use recovery mode to restore your device in these cases:
iTunes doesn't recognize your device or says it's in recovery mode.
You see the Apple logo onscreen for several minutes with no progress bar.
You see the Connect to iTunes screen.
Learn what to do if you see the progress bar onscreen for several minutes.
To put your device into recovery mode, follow these steps:
Turn off your device and leave it off.
Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes.
Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
When you see this screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 again.
When your device is connected, iTunes will open. You'll see a message saying that iTunes has detected an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in recovery mode.
Use iTunes to restore your device. Restoring in recovery mode will erase your device. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you might be able to restore from your backup.Get more help
Learn what to do if you don't see your device in iTunes for OS X, or in iTunes for Windows.
If you put your device into recovery mode by mistake, restart it. Or you can wait 15 minutes and your device will exit recovery mode by itself.
I hope this information helps ....

    Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. If the errors persist on another computer and known-good USB cable, the device may need service.

When i arrived in Brazil, it just couldn`t make any calls. I bought one UNbloked, but it seems it was blocked.
When i pluged it in my macbook pro to update and restore it, at the end of the firmware restoration, it simply frozes the iphone in recovery mode and a message appears on the screen:
"The iphone could not be restored. a unknown error occurred (-1).
I just don`t know what to do to fix the problem.
    Somebody, plesase, can help me?
    Thanx!!!

Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software available from Apple. • An unknown error occurred (0xE8004002).

    Greetings.
Basic situation: my wife has never been able to successfully connect her iPhone to her MacBook. She'd really like to sync her contacts, etc., but every time it's failed.
Being a husband of drastic measures, I backed up all of her documents and whatnot and performed a clean install of Snow Leopard on her MacBook. Yay. Go Team.
I then installed iTunes 10. Again, yay. Go team.
I then connected her iPhone (running OS 3.1.2 (7D11)) to the MacBook, thinking, "hey, clean install, nothing should go wrong." Yay. Go... crud.
Her phone has 1 song, 4 videos, 735 pictures, and 42 applications on it. After doing about twenty different things (okay, less than 20, but...):
    1. Restart iPhone
    2. Restart MacBook
    3. Reinstall iTunes.
    4. Find and kill the AppleMobileDeviceHelper.kext and reinstall it along with iTunes.
    5. Prevent automatic syncing in iTunes.
    6. Reenable automatic syncing in iTunes.
    7. Search the internet using the power of Google.
    8. Beat head against wall.
Usually, what happens is that upon connecting the iPhone to the computer, iTunes goes into a "Not Responding" mode in the Activity Monitor. If I sample the process, that will roust it from its slumber, but then we get stuck again. Nothing actually syncs to the device.
I get the lovely error message "The iPhone "blah blah happycakes iPhone" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (0xE8004002)."
Yay. Informational! Again, back to google. I get the sense that it's related to something being corrupt on the iPhone itself, but... I can't for the life of me figure out exactly what that might be.
I've gone through all of the troubleshooting steps in Apple's support pages. I've checked that the device shows up on a high-speed USB port as an iPhone in the System Profiler. I'm connecting directly from the computer to the device, no hubs or other excreta in the way.
So, before I head to the Apple Store to confound the Genius Bar, I thought I'd ask if this was something others have experienced.
Most of the references to this involve connecting the phone to a PC, not a Mac, so I'm begging for any suggestions short of "blow up the phone and reload everything". I could recover the pictures, apps, and whatnot, but the amount of contacts would be difficult to redo. Not impossible, just... painful.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions. If more info is needed, I'll provide what I can.

I am trying to get my purchased music from my phone to my new PC and it after getting 4 out of the 6 hours of music into Itunes it gives me this same error code. When I try to put the remaining music into Itunes it pops up again and again. I too would love if someone knew what was going on with this error.

  • Unknown error after I provide my password.

when I try to download and install an app i get unknown error after I provide my password. if I try again and again it eventually ask me if I want to recover my password. my password is correct since I can log in my computer. What can I do to fix this ?

That didn't work! I have this exact same problem! I tried logging out of my App Store account (via the Settings tab in my iPhone) but that just makes it completely impossible to even log in again (even after choosing a new password). I just get "Unknown Error" then "Can not connect to Itunes Store" over & over again...yet I am able to log into this forum with that same username & password! Ugghh!

  • Tried to update my iPad  OS from iTunes. Frozen and got an "unknown error msg". I tried to restore the iPad to factory settings..got the same

I bought today a new iPad from Rideau Store. The setup guys didn't update to latest software version. I tried to do myself trough iTunes, which notify me that an upgrade is available. After a while the upgrading process froze with a msg "unknown error ..". I clicked on the More  info  button and I got a page saying "due to a scheduled upgrade of Apple's support system some feature are not available.
The bottom line is that now the iTunes does detect the iPad being in recovering mode and asks to restore it to fabrics defaults. I tried to do this and again I got aqn "unknown error"
Finally I run the iTunes diagnostics to check the connectivity between my iPad and my HP laptop (iTunes). For unknown reson the iTunes does not detect my iPad. See below the diagnostics log:
